Community Spotlight: Ruckus Terrain, Commands & Colours Tiles + Orky Tech!
February 11, 2026 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We'll be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Here's The Ruckus Terrain by MadMeatMonkey
We start off this week with a look at the work of the user, MadMeatMonkey (quite the name). They have been working on building some terrain that they're going to be using to craft a tabletop for use in Here's the Ruckus. They had the warband but no terrain to play games on and around!
The miniatures were ready but beyond that, they only had access to a big gaming mat and some wargaming tree bases. That doesn't give a tabletop a lot of lived-in feel, especially for the scale of warfare you get in Here's The Ruckus. So, MadMeatMonkey started work on some houses like the one above, getting them ready for the tabletop.
I really like the buildings that MadMeatMonkey has built and painted. I also share the hatred of having to paint all of those wooden beams on these kinds of houses! It really does suck. In addition to the houses, MadMeatMonkey has also been working on some natural terrain like marshes, bogs and also some gentle slopes.
As you can see, the tabletop is looking rather good after a good month or so of work on this collection. A bunch of set-on terrain like hills, marshes, swamps, rivers, fields and houses helps to show off just how much character you can suddenly get with a tabletop.
I'm sure that this collection of terrain is going to be just the starting point for MadMeatMonkey. Some more houses could well be on the way but there is enough there now to easily play a game or two and play around with the layouts. We can't wait to see where it goes next.
Commands And Colours Modular Tiles by Radmo101
Sticking with terrain for use with a Historical wargame, we have a peek at some upscaling for a Commands and Colours collection but also a look back at how you can do some nice upgrading of your games. We start with the idea that Radmo101 wanted to use the work on their Travel Battle game as a jumping-off point.
The nifty look of this is really fun and it's a good showcase of what can happen if you level up a board and some of the terrain elements for a game. Travel Battle no longer, perhaps, but a fun way for someone to craft an updated tabletop to play the game using its mechanics on a larger scale.
The real fun, however, comes when Radmo101 gets to Commands and Colours where they took a bunch of tiles for the game and started working on some really nice, larger options for upgrading the Richard Borg game.
The nice thing about this is that it still feels like a rather self-contained collection of terrain for use with the game. But, it also has the modular nature that you get with set-on tiles. Most importantly, Radmo101 has also played a bunch of games on this terrain and the way that it has come together actually works and feels functional. It's a nice way to show your appreciation for a game.
You have some nice setups for the different settlements, be they villages and towns, as well as some of the more interesting elements for battlefield tactics, like the bridges. I also like that this retains the abstraction of the game rather than trying to make it too realistic. It works very well and it's a great nudge in the right direction for folks who might want to try and do the same.
Ork Dreadnoughts by holly
Last but not least, we're having a look at some awesome work by holly on bringing ace Ork Dreadnoughts to life. I love people doing fun and quirky things with Orks, especially when they kitbash and convert. My friend does this a lot and so seeing holly do the same has provided him with some added inspiration for more conversions!
The idea was to make use of some of the Hachette magazines and do what they could with a limited selection of kit but also all sorts of other bits and pieces. As you can see, there is a lovely painted Ork contraption above, which stands as a great marker for this project. But, it gets even cooler.
Spheres and balls seem to be the focal point for these Dreadnoughts and I think they look absolutely amazing. They feel exactly like Ork Dreadnoughts, even though they've got a basis in effectively, trash!
This continues into a third contraption for the Orks. holly has broken down the process of building these miniatures (and hopefully painting them) as part of the project. It's ingenious seeing just what you can do if you put your mind to it. Daft? Yes. Awesome. Absolutely. They are perfectly Orky.
Alongside Chaos Space Marines, I think Orks are the army that gets the most out of the creative kitbashers and converters in Warhammer. They are so incredibly unique when it comes to the character you can get out of sculpts and stamping a personality on your army is so ingrained in everything you do. I can't wait to see more of these painted up.
What Are You Painting Right Now?
Every week, we’re absolutely blown away by the incredible topics that are put into the Projects; it’s getting more difficult to choose Community Spotlights! We love your work and we hope to see a lot more of it in the future!
If you fancy getting your hobby fingers out and showing off your newest paint job, terrain piece or even greatest gaming achievement, we want to know about it! We don’t mind if you’re a newcomer to painting or a veteran of the brush, everything you do inspires us to create more and more content together!
