Congrats to the Golden Button Winners! Well DONE!
Happy Sunday,
lets see those 10/10 for the Greatest movie ever made. EVER.
10/10
.@brennon do Arthurians! Clearly the best of your three options and those Footsore miniatures are fantastic (I should know, I also have most of them)!
correct, your vote has been counted
I would go for the Gretchin. Knock those out in a weekend as a palette cleanser then move onto one of the bigger projects. You’ll then have a new army you can use whilst building something else.
incorrect, the answer was build the late romans for SAGA, your vote has not been counted 😛
@brennon your badass dude is James Douglas a.k.a the Black Douglas. As a Scot doing a Black Douglas army gets my vote
Always fun to watch. I hope you all enjoy the last day of your weekend.
@brennon Dwarves for Saga Age of Magic, Ben, its the only way for you to use that dirigible I sent to you so many years ago. Break out your paint and coat that thing with quality pigments already.
@brennon Do the Romans for Saga. Then you can buy some monsters from Mierce Minitures and play Saga Age of Magic. I did something similar with my Saga Vikings. I added a unit of weres and a frost giant. I will be doing the same with my Saga Normans as well.
Bad ass Scot you say? Do you mean my ancestor The Black Douglas, The Good Sir James you mean? Bruce’s buddy? I think that’s who you mean. 😉
@brennon You should do the Arthurians obvs. Go on – try something that isn’t GW. As a boardgamer you won’t be disappointed in the gameplay as the battle boards bring a really interesting dimension to gameplay that will keep you coming back game after game.
I think it was probably my King Arthur that you saw in the projects this week – it’s here for anyone else who wants to see it:

Saga Lets Play please. And we don’t need any silliness and delay waiting for Ben getting an army and painting it… Gerry has around 36 points of Irish for Saga. He could lend 6 Points to Ben and still lay on a small tornament around him.
I suggest the Late Romans because I don’t own any and would love to see what force type Ben would chose, with the Authurian slant, and see how they play.
But also, for variety and to push your pound, A box of Irish from Wargames Atlantic and maybe some random gaul sprues off ebay for variety could easily give you a Pictish / Irish crossover army. There are Picts from Gripping Beast, but they look a bit uninspiring pose and detail wise. (But would be cheap and cheerful) Just avoid the use of too many shillelaghs to tie them to the Irish and not too much woad body paint to tie them to the Scots.. and do some tartan efforts on the warlord and you’re good to go.
SAGA, Saga, SAGA… Drink you devils. Drink.
Visit my Saga Facebook group for inspiration and to tug on some well informed ears.

Ooh Stop Press Ben may like Dwarfs ?!?!?
Happy Sunday.
Two really good golden button winners there,…, and Sundancer’s was good as well ?
@brennon I really like the idea you have with those goblins. You could even use them for other games as a Stargrave crew for example.
I recently played a game of 40k 9th edition for the first time, and I was amazed at how much cross referencing of key words and systems built on top of more systems there are in the game. Not to mention how much abstraction layering there is to disguise the same rule for different armies to give them more flavour.
I had to spend three days of a week off work putting together reference sheets for everything just to make sense of it all (and we still didn’t finish our game past turn 3).
I much prefer simpler rules and I think One Page Rules is they way to go for 40k in future. Now to convince my group to throw out their books.
Oops
GW will be right on it like the kroots update Ben?.
Happy ooooh…. synch had been better once XD

Now of to watch Diesel Powered Rings of Lords… or something.
A fab show guy’s do Botwar Ben then you can square up for a battle against @sundancer with his army or you can just kick the Decepicons arses.?
@brennon Athurian all the way. Then recreate all the battles from the Bernard Cornwall Arthurian triology. Its my dream project. One day one day.
Happy XLBS!
.@brennon The Arthurian Saga force sounds like it would be a lot of fun and the Footsore miniatures are lovely to paint. Having said that… dwarves are never a bad idea
Ben I think you should go with the Arthurian late Romans from Footsore miniatures. I think you may like the change of painting up a new time period , I know I did .
Going to Aztecs from Samurai was a great change of pace for me and it lit that fire under my back side that I needed to get painting again . Man did those Samurai zap my hobby mojo out of me ?
Best of Luck on you future project ?
Definitely the Arthur Daley army @brennon
@brennon you could go Arthurian/Romano Britain but Dwarfs for Age of Magic is always appropriate. But then again Arthurian with monsters would also work with Age of Magic. But go Indian from the new book and you can still add monsters and play Age of Magic!
Gerry If I can find it I will share it with you all. I have a wargamer friend on Facebook that has a French farm house and a large one at that that I believe rents out rooms and here is the best part . He has terrain for Wargaming. It’s a B&B that caters to Wargamer’s .
@brennon There’s never been a better time to do some Arthurian Saga not only is there a ready to go book and battleboard, but Wargames Soldiers & Strategy 121 is a special about King Arthur, with I think some input from the Academic Wargamer Daniel Mersey who also has some King Arthur and his knights and foes minis out about now.
The Arthurian minis are based on the Osprey Myth and Legends books he did a while back, so Mallory King Arthur, or Clive Owen either way your set good to go.
Happy Sunday or as I watch this Happy Monday!
You are spot on with the ‘flavour’ comment. A creative background story and well thought out design aesthetic is all a game needs to be flavourful. I think that OPR can leave their rules alone and work on the world building and narratives and they would be destined for absolute greatness. IMHO.
Using mechanics for flavour is a landslide into a rules bloat oblivion unless you have absolutely brutal creative discipline in the design team.
Gerry this one is not on my friends list but looks interesting .
Though out of my price range but looks nice.
https://www.lhoteldeherce.fr/francemilitaryhistoryholidays
@brennon AOS 3rd is better then 40k IMHO at the moment. Don’t get me wrong I still feel it’s a little bloated rules wise bit the Command ability system is way more manageable than 40ks strategem system.
Calling it now they will copy it for CP in 10th edition.
Sundancer’s use of colour is amazing on his wizards. Button worth definitely.
Hello, father Teds house rocks
Interesting comments on rules amendments, though think you have to be careful with some of the use of quirks to make units more unique in that wont it become just another version of GW?
The other thing you have to be careful with amending rules is overkill, sometimes a simple change can make a unit unbalanced.
Perhaps a good example though in this case it was deliberate, was in Battletech with the introduction of the Clans, nearly every stat was slighly tweeked, but the overall effect was deadly, you need a least a two to one ration of tonnage of Inner Sphere to Clan to stand a chance. But using Clan kit doesnt have speed up the game.
Great show! Loved hearing ab OPR. I think if I return to larger scale Sci-fi battles it’ll be OPR or Warpath. I love the 40K Lore but the rules are too cumbersome.
Fantasy Saga is the shiz! If only someone would do a ‘Let’s Play’.
@brennon an AoS all Dawi army (from all 3 versions) would be great. Why hasn’t Grombrindal created a Dawi home city for all 3 of them yet? Because AoS is rubbish. But it can happen in Saga!
The Golden Button winning paintjobs were all sublime. Amazing stuff.
I really need to check out One Page Rule, might be fun to play big games again without loosing an afternoon!
Thanks for the show guys!
Ben’s clear and firm “No” to the question: “don’t you have enough dwarves?” This had me laughing out loud!
