happy Sunday
@dignity got lucky….well what happens at Gencon stays at Gencon
Nice to see you finally got Dark Deeds, one of my favourite things about that game is the stories you tell as you play, the game is so simple it allows a lot of chat and craic as you play.
@stvitusdancern love seeing the RPGs and the piece of art from Paolo Parente is just fantastic, how annoyed must Lloyd be now? The Star Wars RPG is fantastic I only have the 2nd ed, but one of my friends has the original and the sourcebook is worth it in itself, so I’m looking forward to getting my greasy paws on the reprints.
@brennon channeling your inner Warren and chucking out the running order to fry Justin’s head 😉
Prebuilds are interesting, I can see the appeal to get the game up and running faster, but then when you come to painting they can be a massive pain to clean, and I’m fairly obsessive when it comes to that on my own minis.
I had a genuine fear moment when I realised I’d skipped on the running order. Now I know why it can so easily happen 😉
Happy Sunday
Happy Sunday!
…and there was me thinking I was going to have a Weekender without an XLBS to relax to.
Nice to see the the old WEG Star Wars. I think I still have it lying about somewhere. I don’t think West End ever made a bad game
Yes! Paranoia, being one of my favourites.
An excellent report from GenCon. As much as I enjoy hearing Warren’s dulcet tones, it was a very pleasant change to hear so much from Gianna, Justin, Ben and Dawn, without the constant interruptions of dominant, over powering responses from Warren! ; )
What can I say… It would do the world a disservice to hold off on my awesomeness 😉
So you’re gonna be blessed with it for some time to come 😉
Your ‘awesomeness’ is duly noted! Glad to see you’ve taken my ‘acerbic’ style of comment in the intended manner it was meant, (taking the p**s). Look forward to much more of your ‘blessings’. xxx ; )
Happy Sunday I am looking forward to going through all of it 😀
Glad to hear you guys had such a great time 🙂
Also @bennon I think that demon looks great but to me he looks way more undivided than anything else, but there are so many good non-GW options out there it is hard to stay loyal to the Emperor. But I mean chaos really I want you to meet this really nice girl I know, listen don’t mind the extra arm or the purple tinge she is really down for you know…
I am sure you will like her, but get to know each other she has views on the Emperor too…
He is very Undivided, or maybe even Tzeentch I think. But I think he could be pretty cool as a Keeper Of Secrets style Daemon with that key.
Looking forward to building him and testing out a scheme.
Well that is a dedicated wargamer right there!
Ignores all of the comments about the girl 😛
Tzeentch could be interesting, but yeah just keepers tend a little more toward the sexy and I don’t see that as much here.
Happy Sunday…
Oooh love a good loot show! It’s like a summer Christmas!
It’s been a while since I travelled – what are the current guidelines on what you can bring back on a transatlantic plane? A GenCon pilgrimage is very tempting…
Happy Sunday everyone.
So did you run the diamond @dignity??
@brennon I too absolutely love the look of the flying frog demon model, it will work with so many games.
This has been one of my most favourite XLBS shows guys, really enjoyed the banter between you all and to repeat a post I made on the Gen Con threads, I cannot believe how @stvitusdancern and @deltagamegirl22 have managed to report so well on Gen Con in previous years with just the two of you, truly epic effort and I applaud you for it. Thanks for such great coverage and I’m looking forward to next year! (well everything apart from Justin’s flat cap, no one needs to see that again………..ever!)
Thanks!
Are we having bets to see if Justin makes it around the base ball diamond?
Sadly no, the game went into extra innings and got to late.
Happy Sunday!
Thanks BoW Team for all the good GenCon reports all this week!
Great loot haul, I’ve got potion explosion and am eagerly awaiting the expansion. Did any of you see the eclipse?
Sadly it was really cloudy here that day. Not much to see. 🙁
A “running” joke Justin, genius 🙂
great funny weekender guys, was nice to see Ben more than a screen still a little unsettled by his sexy and furious claims though…..
His sexy furiousness does that…
In fact, ‘His Sexy Furiousness’ should henceforth be his title.
It might have been the accent but I’m sure it was sexy furriness
I second the motion, none against?
….
The motion is carried.
You can carry his furious sexy motion as much as you like, but I’ll be staying well clear. o_0
Unsettling you is the key to sexy furiousness @wolf320f 😉
@stvitusdancern I have everything from the WEG Star Wars Game on a shelve.
Happy Sunday.
Makes all the difference getting to see Gencon through your eyes folks. Cheers!
As one of the Aussies that was lucky enough to catch up with you at Gencon, thanks for the laughs, and good company at Loughmiller’s. It was great meeting other members of the BoW community too.
A few strange things that I noticed at Gencon though, Warlord, Mierce Miniatures and Wizards of the Coast were all absent. Mierce had just launched a kickstarter (since cancelled) and it would have been the perfect time and place to showcase there products and ideas. Similarly Warlord could have been there showing off it’s many games and product ranges. I don’t recall a Wizards vendor booth since 5th Edition dropped which is strange given how the whole of Gencon is associated with Gary Gygax, etc.
Also it is clear that the zeitgeist this year is samurai themes. Test of Honour, Shadows over Brimstone Forbidden Fortress, Dragon Empires and of course FFG’s absolutely beautiful Rising Sun.
Speaking of FFG, they clearly had the crowds captivated for all 4 days. If you go to Gencon often enough you notice that fanboys (and girls) swarm their chosen manufacturer in the first two days, lessening on the third day and reduced to next to nothing on the Sunday. Except FFG and CMON. 4 days of non-stop excitement as gamers soaked up the shiny goodness that FFG and CMON doled out. Legions stole the show but the Song of Ice and Fire game ran hot all 4 days.
An amazing 4 days that I’d recommend for each and every gamer to do at least once in their life.
WotC have stopped attending, though I don’t recall them addressing why. There’s still plenty of Magic and D&D going on via third parties so they may think it’s a needless expense.
Attending GenCon is very expensive. On UK based company told me that just sending over a small team and sharing a booth with someone else would set them back a sum into five figures. WotC can obviously afford it, but if you’re a Mierce Miniatures then that’s a big investment.
Was great to meet up with you @horus500
thx for the amazing gencon trip – it feels like beeing there by mythelve,,,,
Ben is officially awesomeorer than ever now I know he’s vegetarian, good job sir.
super happy for you that you had such a good experience at critical roll live.
torch bearer looks ever more interesting.
Gianna, excellent choice with the one ring. beautiful setting beautifully presented, a top tier product.
STAR WARS RPG, awesome in every incarnation but the westend games edition is the stuff of STAR WARS legends.
Is it like in Scott Pilgrim where how I’m a vegetarian I have super powers? I better stop smelling bacon on a regular basis then haha
Yeah Critical Role Live was amazing and I have to thank the mysterious three Americans who made me feel very at home as we were watching the show.
Watching Justin turn pages from the top middle made me wince, I was waiting for the pages to tear!
Great show guys. I will reiterate how great it was to meet and chat with you all and the other backstagers at Loughmiller’s. My son and I had a great time. it was definitely a highlight of my trip.
This was my first GenCon and it was truly amazing. The crowds were huge but because of the sheer size of the spaces I never really felt out of sorts. After reviewing your coverage videos I did some things I am a sorry I missed, so I will just have to plan a return visit. As soon as my wallet can recover.
I agree with Ben about the GenCon museum. I really enjoyed my walk through history there. I remember so many of the games I saw ( I have a few years on Gianna). Really brought back good memories.
I now look forward to a chance to attend a Bootcamp and make my first trip to Ireland. Hopefully that will not be too long a wait.
Glad to hear you had a good time at the meet-up @cbrenner – that museum was amazing!
Happy Sunday!
Well Gianna, If you get a game together here’s and idea….Have your higher level characters steal a Star Destroyer! It sounds ridiculous, but I had a blast attempting it. I played a “spy” character in that lovely 1st edition version of the Star Wars RPG with oriskany as a b-wing pilot Almost 25 years later and I still remember those games with a smile.
Those were indeed some awesome games. I still have the original WEG Star Wars RPG hardcover rule book and Source Book (basically, the same two books @stvitusdancern shows. Sadly by Rebel Alliance and Imperial sourcebooks disintegrated halfway through the mid-90s. I have them now on .pdf but would love another chance to buy them again.
Did he just say crokinole came out in the last couple of years?!?
My grandfather had an old hand made table I played on quite literally 40 years ago!
Is that just a rural Canadian thing or what? lol
I meant to say that it recently became popular in the last couple of years thanks to a big boom at Uk Games Expo not long back haha
Not to take away from the kickstarter, but here in Canada you can go down to a local retailer, like Toys R Us or Walmart, and pick up a table for $50 if you want to get in on the low end. The kickstarter mentioned here looks like a quality table, though, and worth investing in. I just don’t agree that it’s entry level.

Now you’ll have to do a weekend split across the two studios with Ben on both shows via screen “we needed a second continent to contain his furious sexiness”. It’s got a nice closeup cam too, good thing Gianna was there to make sure Justin shared his shinies with the whole class 🙂
Thank you it has been a project long in the making.
You’re welcome, I think the work shows; it felt like the weekender. Looking forward to seeing more, I bet “let’s play” videos will be great, especially with that table, too.
It had the feel of the shows just after the beasts moved back to NI, the technology was leaps and bounds ahead but the feel of warmth was there and it was a lot of fun.
Now to get caught up with all the coverage now that the internet’s are up and running properly here.
Great show. Hope you’re back safely
Happy Sunday, it’s been a good pair of Weekenders with lots of content and great to see Dawn and Gianna putting the US BoW cave to use.
I have to admit that I spent some of the video time looking at the games in the background and was wondering about the one called Ashes behind Dawn which seems to have some sort of Phoenix on the front as it really caught my eye.
I am soooo jealous.
With all of the other feelings I have probably covered the major seven.
that dice tower for bloodball looks fantastic.
It was great to meet you guys. I was the gentleman that let you take that smoke break uninterrupted. I will know better for next time!
Very good call on The One Ring @stvitusdancern
The books are just georgeous and worth owning just for their quality and atmosphere even if you don’t play the game. I also think they do something which most of us don’t appreciate just how difficult it is: the really create a game that feels like the Lord of the Rings. Not a fantasy adventure game set in something that looks like Middle Earth, but a game that really feels like the books. With the theme, the choice of skills, the emphasis on journeying, etc. There are so many narrative mechanics which make you feel like you’re in a Tolkein story.
I got to meet Justin at the Games & Gears table! I was buying Dark Deeds, looked up and saw him, then waved like an idiot as if he would know who the hell I was.
Great job everybody on the American Weekenders!! Everything was seamless and felt just like we’ve come to expect. All the production values were in place and it was especially reassuring to see that all the innuendo was in full effect, as well.
That is some furious loot!.
Really excited about next year and I hope that I can make it to the meet up. The sad thing was I was 10 miles away, the good thing was we closed on our house that day so we could finally move down to Indy.
@dignity this has been probably the most mild August in recent history. Nice weather with low humidity, maybe we can treat you right next year. Lol
Hope you guys liked the baseball game, the MidWest League is one of the best examples of minor league baseball in the world.
Glad you all had a good time in our great state.
Oh and @brennon you came all the way to Indy so please tell me you tried a Sun King?
@brennon it just so happens that being soft and gooey generally happens after being furiously sexy…. :p
@dignity and @brennon you definitely need to come to Portland, Maine and visit with us at Spectre Studios. We have Sam Adams on tap as well as the Shipyard and Allagash breweries that give tours, great restaurants with awesome vegetarian and vegan options.
Also as a coastal city we have the lovely sea breezes that helps keep the heat from getting too much for wandering visitors.
An idea for a road show @dignity and @brennon traveling around the US … Some one get the Discovery Channel on the phone ; )
Sounds like a plan we must put into action!
That silent dice rolling is amazing. Wonder if they’ll put those up for sale at some point.
Hopefully, it is a beautiful tray which is great for gaming. I enjoyed using it for some Destiny when I got back home.
Aesthetic wise, the dice tray they showed is wonderful. If you want to DIY your own you can do as my brother did. If you are in the USA you can go to Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Joan’s Fabric or other craft store and purchase unfinished wood box. You can get one of the same shape and size as the one on the video. It can be easily stained to whatever color you want using a gel wood stain which lays down a nice poly clear as it dry as well. Then, purchase tool drawer liner. This is the kind for large metal tool boxes. usually found at auto parts stores. Cut to correct size and glue in place. If you want a design on the surface, use a stencil and airbrush and you have a silent rolling dice box.
Where is the running of the basses =p
Sadly, we didn’t have Justin run them! The team thought they’d make the game worth the trip for the guys by going into extra innings!
Great show. So nice to see all those realy happy faces. Looks like you all had great fun together and were very happy with all your new gaming stuff.
Cracking show everyone. Belial is giving me a strong Diablo vibe.
GReat job on the coverage and thanks for all your hard work!
There is def nothing like getting a new rulebook, my favorite gaming component=)
I understand the idea behind the one piece/pre-assembled minis but I just prefer multi part kits. The one piece are good for board games but for me a big part of a miniatures game is the customizing of the models, the making your army truly yours and that just doesn’t com across with the pre-assembled minis. Yes they can have cool poses or even if their painted different it just seems for me a little more boring.
Potion game looks like a lot of fun, loving how visual it is
Great show guys.
Interesting to hear more about the new Star Wars game from FFG.
My feeling is that it will be like LotR/the Hobbit is for GW. There is a huge fanbase so there will be an initial spike no doubt, however long term its unlikely to unseat 40k and the like at the head of the table. Just as x-wing is slowly fading from its peak, so is Legions likely to in a couple of years.
Just my prediction. 🙂
Happy wednesday! Yeah i know, 3 days late… 😉
Thanks for the laughs guys!
Those Blacksmiths look awesome
@stvitusdancern & @oriskany link I’ve posted a few times before, the d6 system used in WEG star wars was made public domain a few years ago and majority if not all of the back catalog is available for download on this site here with core rulebooks, supplements adventures and campaign packs :
http://www.d6holocron.com/downloads/wegcore.html
PDF isn’t the same as the hardbacks but you could print and get it bound maybe, shops like Rymans do that here in the UK assume there’s a US equivalent.
Happy Sunday, cool episode and nice stuf you picked on gencon. I always post a photo for my looting items when goes to a con!
Hahaha the “Lost” poster is hilarious!
Finally finally got to watch this one! Lots of swag.. and the origin of sexy furious!
