Grab your favorite drink, something to nibble, and get ready for the OTT crew to lay some gaming wisdom on us all!
So, did we decide @warzan about doing some ‘Snail Mail version of CogitoLudos’?
I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m getting really stoked for the Star Wars Hobby Weekend in December.
I have my Digital Ticket for the Star Wars Hobby Weekend! Yah me!!!
Good show! I’ll be straining my brain for a War event that will make a good scenario for Star Wars!
Happy Sunday!!!
Hi happy countdown to star wars weekend
Happy Sunday!
Happy Sunday.
Didn’t the Romans have forts of some kind on the British Isles?
Or are forts significantly different from castles?
The Roman’s brought flatpack forts with them as well
“What did the Romans do for us”? Inspired Ikea!
One more reason to dislike Ikea/Romans … 😉
We had meatballs before the Romans!
Castles are also a Dedicated House, a Fort and a Status symbol all in one whereas the Romans built giant Military Camps that happened to be fortified.
Castles were a unique Feudal Age type of building
Justine here you go
25 KIlometer = 15.2 Miles
Warren you saw that program too, interesting stuff, everyone says German, but never bring up the German Mennonites Communities
The Castle is Itter Castle in Austria
Happy Sunday to you all
Can we get some close off dates for potential overseas Digital Ticket holders please?
It’s very helpful for procrastinators like myself to have a deadline to work to…
For the 40K Hobby Weekend I was just about to make an order to find out I was already too late.
Happy Sunday!
Can I get re-skinned please?
I loved the look Gerry gave Lloyd when Lloyd mentioned the Baron Wars – incidentally the backerkit for the Baron Wars KS should be out today!
I did some reading on The Anarchy this week as Lloyd had mentioned it on a news article. Really interesting.
Awesome show guys.
Speaking of what happens to a dead King @warzan check out what happened to William the Conqueror. When he died everyone panicked and though civil war would break out so they literally left his corpse in the bed and fled to their castles to get ready. He was robbed, stripped naked and left lying on the floor until some wandering Knight found him and actually organised a burial. This was days later and he was bloated and wreaked. Then as they held the Funeral Mass a man came up and demanded money because he claimed to own the land that the Church was built on, they paid him off in the middle of the Funeral and had to literally cram William into his coffin to bury him.

If we want to stick with the theme of James the II and that whole affair why don’t we do the battle that caused it all? The Sack of Rome on May 6th 1527. Basically some armies went “rogue” and stormed the Holy See, 189 Swiss Guard fought them literally on the steps of the Holy See while another small detachment got the Pope to a Castle where he sat for the essentially a hostage of the Holy Roman Emperor. This meant he couldn’t give Henry the VIII an Annulment (his wife was a relative of the Emperor) and couldn’t deal with the Heretic Martin Luther who managed to pick up enough steam that the English King thought it would be fine to just invent his own Church with himself as Pope.
So you could have either Leia/The Emperor being escorted away from the Battlefield while Vader/Luke leads Hordes of chaff against Elite defenders. Have a “scoring Area” of the board that slowly shrinks every turn to encourage the attacker to really press the attack and replicate the defender being forced backwards.
Historically the Swiss Guard died to a man (except those that escorted the Pope) but maybe it will be different in Star Wars? Just an idea the really good stuff will be Team Water exclusive.
Happy Sunday one and all.
Social media is a great platform, but at the same time it sucks balls.Every household should have a @dignity,even an alpha striker needs some love.
@avernos Castle Itter is the one.
As for the Hitler thing as far as I’m aware all the proof we have of him being dead is just “The Notorious Liars the Soviet Union said so”. I mean Eichmann managed to get away and he was massive. There’s a great YouTube series about hunting the Nazi’s on Youtube, from detailed year long deep cover ops to straight up murder the Israeli’s really took care of business back in the day.
The Russians at first found the Goebbels and had the bodies autopsies. It wasnt until a few days later they found what they believed was Hitlers body and according to SMERSH Hitlers dentist then identified the bridge work on the jaws. The Soviets say the rest of the body was washed into the Berlin sewers The jaw bones were then placed in a lined box and a female Russian soldier was told to guard them until the end of the Battle of Berlin. There discovery was kept a secret to everyone including Zhukov who wasnt informed until 20 years later the remains had been found
I think the Soviets said the jaw bones were destroyed in the 1970’s
I think the teeth and skull are still in Moscow, as recently a team of French experts were allowed access to them.
https://www.france24.com/en/20180519-hitler-definitely-died-1945-new-study-teeth
@avernos do you mean the Tuskegee Airmen (332nd) who were the fighter air unit.
The Spielberg and Hanks produced show is about the US 8th Airforce, the 8th suffered the heaviest losses in the war so it’s safe to assume that one shouldn’t get too attached to any characters particularly the sweet kid from Idaho who is looking forward to going home to his sweetheart, and the gruff older captain who keeps a photograph of his girl on the instrument panel.
I think he was talking about the 92nd Infantry Division I think they’re the only Black unit that actually large scale saw combat outside of the USAAF. Tuskegee would also be cool.
8th Airforce were total beasts I can’t wait to watch that, didn’t they take more than half of all USAAF losses in WWII?
The Nisei Regiment would also be cool if they want to do a Minority unit. Mostly Japanese or Japanese descended Americans they got a boatload of Medals for being insanely brave.
Yes you’re absolutely right it’s the 92nd, mostly served in Italy
As for the 8th yes they took just over a third of the casualties and about half the losses, I think that figure also includes the Pacific as well as European.
yeap the Harlem Hellfighters, spent more time and took more losses in the first world war than any other American unit on the frontline trenches.
I haven’t seen anything about the second world war, but since segregation was a thing I imagine there are african american units that would be worth focusing in on for a story
I think the US army deliberately made African American troops fetch and carry only
Yep the 92nd was basically the only Front Line Black unit.
I think I had this wrong as there was an independent tank battalion that was African American that won many citations and some AA units that won awards as well
Great show and an interesting topic.
Reskinning historical for Star Wars legion could be quite fun, how about either the battle at Isandlwana or Rorkes Drift. The Clone troopers are acting as the British and the Droid army is playing as the Zulus.
For Rorkes Drift you could setup a remote outpost on the outer rim where mineral mining is required by both sides. Think of the characters you could use, Commanders Rex (my favourite), Cody and leading the force is of course Obi Wan Kenobi. For the Separatists, Count Dukoo and General Grievous leading the mighty horde.
@warzan, if you’re scummy, then in the words of Jabba, “you’re our kind of scum”
I get the feeling BoW has just reached that size where it’s attracting the haters… I have no cure
Happy Sunday!
@avernos Regarding the airborne uniforms. If I have my historical facts right, the 101st were issued the new uniforms right after Normandy, but the 82nd kept the M1942 longer. At least some of them were still using it even at Market Garden.
I was pretty sure all airborne had been requipped by Market Garden, although I could be wrong. Unlike the regular army who seemed to have received replacements piecemeal
Ref re-skinning and a Star Wars version of Rourkes Drift, there was a story from the old Dark Horse Empire series that had an Imperial ground force slowly ground down by the native populace – quite well done and was one of the better examples of adding some depth to the Empire.
Otherwise I’m already picturing a take on the St Nazzaire Operation Chariot raid: In the wake of the defeat at Hoth a Rebel Specforce company plans to remind The Empire that the Rebellion is wounded but not defeated, so launches a raid deep into the Core Systems, the very heart of Imperial space…..
How to roman forts feature in the whole no castles to billy debate? I thought they also came up with the whole flat pack fortifications as well?
@warzan I screwed up the Hobby Weekend Visitors Centre ticket by not adding the coupon code
@warzan As editor of a farming magazine I’ve been attacked online by millennial vegan mob, called a rapist enabler, murderer absolute all sorts simply because they don’t agree with farming. Most haven’t got a clue what they’re talking about, the minute you challenge them back you get blocked or they try to Twitter storm you. I don’t like the word snowflakes but by God most of them are they can dish it out but can’t take it. Most don’t understand the word debate, its like they’re shouting at you through social media and won’t listen to a reasoned debate on any issue.
@warzan
The last invasion of the UK was in 1797 , when the French landed in Wales. it was called the battle of Fishguard
“The locals on the cliff included women wearing traditional Welsh costume which included a red whittle (shawl) and Welsh hat which, from a distance, some of the French mistook to be red coats and shako, thus believing them to be regular line infantry.”

@avernos damn and blast sir!
The battle of Castle Itter was the first thing I thought of for the Star Wars challenge, I was planning it in my head and then you said it.
Now I have to think of something else…
A possible series a games based on Vercors 1944 maybe interesting. The Germans were trying to break the Maquis in the mountains. They glider assaulted a vital villages with paratroopers who then had to hold on whilst German Mountain troops attacked the mountain passes to reach them and panzer grenadiers fought their way up a mountain road to get there.
@warzan
You’re not the only one. I’ve seen that type of behaviour in a lot of websites (gaming and non-gaming) too.
There are no arguments that make sense.
There is no discussion.
It’s just *beeps* shouting abuse and running away the moment anyone dares to challenge their point of view.
It’s always the type of person that can only ever play the victim, nothing you do ever pleases them and yet they offer no solutions because that would mean they can’t play the victim.
I’d label them Cartman-clones, but SJW (‘social justice warrior’) tends to be the default term which IMHO doesn’t quite cover the sheer level of idiocy of these types.
Just be glad you haven’t been doxed.
I’m glad that this community is free from those types. It’s so refreshing to be able to talk about games and general geekyness because everyone is here to have fun and support each other.
@warzan speaking of heroes of Hastings nobody ever mentions (not even your article) the most badass and stupidest person at the battle, Taillefer the Minstrel the man that kicked the whole battle off by riding at the English army alone while singing and juggling his swords and spear, which he then threw at the English and killed one or two men ( nobody’s quite sure) https://youtu.be/8ECh-WHFQL4?t=96
The Matilda and Steven war was after Henry 1.
Morning everybody:
The Internet is full of fans (fanboys & -girls) and full of shite… so it’s inevitable that some shit hits the fan at some time
History lessons in XLBS…. brain can’t handle it. “It’s is but a flesh wound! I’ll spit in your eye and blind you!”
ComSpot #1 @horati0nosebl0wer well done sir
Not remembering names… I feel you @dignity … every day and again… man was I glad that they had name tags on their chest when I was serving….
That tanky thing…. forgeworlds version: https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-US/Legion-Mastodon “a bit more” than 50p 😉 (Ok I was to slow)
ComSpot #2 @soapdodger also very well done.
Well done us!
ComSpot #2 @shingen nice troopers…. do they go against a predator? 😉
stargate @sundancer
they kill gods, not predators 😉
same thing but different 😉 both just technologically advanced raced worshipped as “gods”
Thanks @sundancer
Honestly, since they were painted they only went against dust in a cabinet I put them in 😉
As someone who has a allergy against dust and stuff living in and of dust I really appreciate fighters against dust! 😉
@warzan can I reserve my spot in the old people’s home for gamers now. So long as all toilets, as well as 2 well stocked loo roll holders of premium quality paper, also contain 2-3 3d printers and a crazy far east fire suppression ball thing, although I’ll draw the line at the webcam monitoring system.
Happy Sunday
Well my ticket is booked for the Star Wars weekend 🙂
.
Another brilliant XLBS guys.
Save me a place in the nursing home…
happy sunday to all of you COG.
very curious what Gerry is going to do with his Trident Realms force, hope we might see more of them.
Ooooo now I know who the ???thank you Warren.
I can’t decide which house to choose from.
and I don’t have a sorting hat (or fez) that can help me! ????♂️
???✉️?
You touched on Aughrim {Galway} there was another fight in Aughrim (Wicklow). The Battle of Aughrim (Galway) was the biggest battle in Ireland and had an enormous butchers bill. I remember passing the site and explaining to my daughter “Imagine the whole population of Longford ( a provincial town where we lived} was killed in that field on a sunny summer afternoon. Aughrim is in the road to Dungeons and Donuts, Drop into the visitor centre during the summer. I am hoping Cad (4 ground) will be able to reproduce pike and shot regiments (Various ratios) in the new world war zero rules. For the wargamer who likes reading I can recommend “Aughrim 1691” by Michael Mc Nally, The History Press. Bring it into starwars and lets see the limitation of the species.
I’m now watching the Castles programme, thanks for the recommendation @lloyd. It does annoy me when presenters decide to be sensationalist about their topics to make them seem more interesting. Yes, Normans brought the first castles but they weren’t a unique concept and a lack of historical perspective has been willfully employed to make the introduction more impactful. Castles have a fascinating history so there wasn’t any need for this ahistorical approach.
@elessar2590 is right, stone castles are feudal buildings because most dictionary definitions include reference to them first appearing in the Medieval period. It isn’t historically correct to say Britain had never had anything like them before.
From my perspecitve I think that they were the latest incarnation of a common feature in Britain. Their function of providing a clear fortified nexus for control of a place combined with societal status symbol had been seen many times before the Normans arrived. Romans walled towns and stand-alone structures were purely fortresses so they are different. Before them though the Celts built hill forts that performed a similar function to the castle. These were re-fortified in post-Roman Britain by warlords for functions that, from the little evidence that exists, appear very similar to castles. In Scotland the Brochs are significant stone structures which were used for certainly defensive purposes and may well have served further castle-like purposes.
What is different in the Medieval period is the fundamental relationship castles played in the widespread and well documented societal system of Feudalism. Similar structures of power may well have been used for centuries in Britain but we lack the documented evidence of their role to be able to say with any clarity what relationship they bore to feudal castles.
I don’t think i knew that a single photon could be detected without destroying it. I just did a web search and it turns out that this has been possible since 2013. I would think that this is a big step on the way to quantum computers.
The problem with re-skinning battles in the Star Wars Universe is that with the technology available to them, historical battles don’t make sense. It’s one of the bits about the last Star Wars film that drove me mad. Why to the Rebel bombers have gravity fed bombs in space? Why conduct a ground assault when you can pound a base from orbit? But then again, why drink alien walrus milk?
If there are going to be historical battles, then Warren is correct that they need to be modern battles. They would be mostly in the style of guerrilla, urban warfare (like Vietnam, Northern Ireland or Iraq,) WWII commando style raids like Operations Musketoon, Claymore, Chariot or Abercrombie, the Dieppe raid. I could also imagine a reskinned Burma Campaign working as well. I could see the battles of la Drang, Hamburger Hill or Dein Bein Phu working well too.
nope
Nope to the battles?
Nope to the modern warfare issue?
Nope to alien walrus milk?
Nope to it all?
Star Wars a New Nope?
Nope to it has to be modern battles
@horus500
even modern battles have issues when you look at the tech used and the one available within Star Wars.
Bridges aren’t exactly a problem when you’ve got anti-grav vehicles, so Market Garden wouldn’t work in a literal translation.
However once you break it down into key events (like @avernos did with Hastings battle) the translation into an alternate setting like Star Wars is easier and the battle itself will start to resemble the historic event.
You could even scale the battle up (to fleet sized battles in Armada) or down (to skirmish scale in Legion).
I’m with @avernos
If you zoom out far enough a battle is a battle.
These men move forward, stay still or retreat while these men do something else. Men either move slowly, at a normal pace or quickly. If we take a step back they all look the same.
Alesia is a good example. Caesar has the filthy Gauls bottled up nice and builds not one but TWO Walls then ends up fighting both lots of stinky Frenchmen at once, that would make a really cool Star Wars Game.
The real problem here is taking a Corps or Divisional Level action and turning it into a skirmish wargame.
Happy Sunday guys.
This was one hell of a surprise for me to roll onto the site, sit in my pajamas and watch the XLBS to see my piece put up. I’ll be sure to build more impressive basing in future and include, not only the Lloyd shot, but other angles too. I’ve already got a Janu-WAAAGH-ry project in mind that I can rework.
As far as getting the eyes, yeesh. You’d need to be doing the same lens effect to get them. Even the promo shot on the website pops them in as little red dots.
Ohh god… is “Janu-WAAAGH-ry” really a thing?
Isn’t Orktober enough? 😉
I’ll really have to get my skates on to make Sept-ember a thing for Tau.
First of happy Sunday one and all, now on to the important bit. Jerry the battle your thinking of happened in May 1945, and would make for a great bolt action game. Nip over to wiki and type this in…….Battle for Castle Itter, hope it helps.
Choosing and Re-skinning a battle, not an easy task, but one worth having a crack at.
Not done a car boot in a few years, think i`ll have to do something about that next time they start up after the winter.
@warzan @dignity the Spielberg project is about the 8th Air Force based in the UK during WW2. Its all about the bomber offensive.
For those that are interested, comparative US casualty rates by service:
Army 266,101
Navy 62,614
Army Air Forces 52,173*
Marine Corps 24,511
Coast Guard 1,917
* Army and Army Air Corps, (later Army Air Forces and post war US Air Force) are generally reported together. Numbers above are killed in action. Non-combat deaths will make the numbers higher. For instance, Army Air Corps deaths add an additional 35,946 non-combat deaths, mostly air crew training deaths.
8th Air Force had approximately 26,000 combat deaths, or about half of all Army Air Corps combat deaths.
The Harlem Hellfighters fought in WW1 as the 369th Infantry Regiment. They were seconded to the French army and wore US uniforms with French Adrian helmets.
While the Tuskegee Airmen were the most well known African American units (comprising multiple fighter squadrons and bomber squadrons) other notable units included the 92nd Infantry Division ( Buffalo Division in honor of the Buffalo soldiers of the Indian Wars period), the 761st Tank Battalion (Black Panthers – unit logo was a leaping panther) fought at St Lo during the break out from Normandy and at Bastogne and the 333rd and 969th Field Artillery Battalions who fought at Bastogne with the 101st Airborne (Screaming Eagles, the Band of Brothers guys).
An interesting non-combat unit was the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion (Triple Nickel). Never allowed in combat, they were sent to the Pacific Northwest to fight forest fires started by Japanese Fu-Go ballon bombs. They became the predecessors of the modern Smoke Jumpers.
African American soldiers were officially designated as USCT – United States Colored Troops.
And now for something completely different …
Battle of Alesia 52BC. It’d make a great Star Wars Legion scenario.
Great point on Alesia.
The USCT were a Civil War unit not a WWII unit.
I didn’t know about the 555th Paras that’s cool.
the squid men look fantastic Gerry.
Dont worry @warzan the internet can be a terrible place, then its good we have this little spot on the internet. And i loved our cuddling session at my last visit at the Korea tournament: P
Did’t the Normans bring more stone castle we knows to the British isles? But they started with wood castles. They need a lot of castles…. the British isles where not easy to control ;D
@avernos you look…… very different without you glasses ;D
How many KOW armies could you make ;D love those fish models, especial the the queen. Love the idea Warren got, its interesting
You been very effective with you painting @warzan Love you new tank for the kids, I think it will fit right in in. GW should make a transport tank for dreadnoughs ;D
Historical Battle, I think about the maybe the battle of Iwo Jima would be cool setting for a Starwars battle. The rebels being the defender holding , a landing zone or shield generator, in a jungle and beach terrain. It might be because of my love of scarif from rouge one… ;D
Ah star wars would love to join you guys with Christian again, but i just got sacked from my work, so I’m not sure about my economic situation will allow me for at travel to Ireland again so soon its only been a couple of weeks, since our last visit and already I miss it ;D If the economic cant handle an entire trip, I might go for a digital ticket All ready got a good potion of rebels, but I need more
I could make 25 out of the 26 armies without reusing figures.
I don’t have empire of dust. Biblical chariot armies never did it for me
Damm @avernos, which one is you favorite ? but you could probely makes a lot diffrent armies with Kingdom of men, with all your Historiacal armies.
Halflings, the League of Rhodria are the bestest
love the tank @warzan
Auldearn – A long time ago in a boggy field far far away.
A Rebel leader must die and an imperial force approaches from the West.
The planet has an atmosphere type which has made searching the General’s location from space near impossible, especially with the electrical storms and rainy season giving almost constant cloud cover (Just like 17th Century Scotland in fact).
The rebel forces have bivouacked their force at dry points in the swamp to the North East, East, South East and a small core of Wookies, a veteran squad, with the Rebel Leader (and the General’s body double) in a defendable structure on a slight rise in the middle of the board.
Points wise the imperials may have slightly more. The Imperials can out number the Rebels minis wise, but are not as well lead as the rebels. Neither side can have big vehicles because of the logistical nightmare that the terrain and weather has posed them.
The Rebels need to hurry their army to defend their General as best they can. The Rebels are all fatigued from marching all the previous day. Any troops that reach the command bubble of the General (or his double) and see him still alive and immediately lose one fatigue because they are heartened to see he is alive.
The Imperials have happened on the Rebels almost by accident and have a dilemma.
Do they approach the building head on and discover that the ground at the base of the mound is boggy and slows them down with minimal cover but get fire on their quarry and allow their numbers to win the day ASAP, do they split forces and approach North and South of the boggy ground and risk this giving the Rebels more time to get their far flung troop together, or do they march their whole force North or South of the bog and end up potentially being funnelled into a narrower killing ground as they press a lot of men through smaller safer routes to the enemy.
The Rebel supporting troops to the North East and South East are only scout type troops but in numbers that would still make the Imperials concerned when they get into range. The Eastern Rebel group can be something a bit meatier points wise with a real threat to it, but is going to be at least one turn behind the other Rebel forces to get to centre table.
The Imperials win if they kill the Rebel leader and get a draw if they kill more points of the enemy than they lose themselves. The Rebels win if they kill more of the enemy forces than they lose themselves and their leader is still alive. The Rebels cannot draw (Do or do not… there is no Try).
The Rebel General’s mission was to spread the seeds of rebellion in the local system and hopefully begin a new front to harass the Empire’s hold on the galaxy, but was forced to go to ground with his small force on the Planet of Auldearn. A superior number and class of Imperial ships forced the Leader to land with his crack troops. Thankfully some of his forces know the planet and have helped him hide his ships and lead the imperials on a merry dance around the Northern continent. Sadly just staying alive and finding a way to get off the planet, without being destroyed in orbit by the thin but effective blockade, was not going to win him the day. He needs to give the Imperials a crushing defeat and get the message to the local planets that are on the brink of Rebellion. Some are only garrisoned by poorly maintained and poorly motivated Imperial overlords. Given a crushing defeat the Imperials will either have to break their blockade to deal with the rebellions springing up locally, or the rebellions will go so well that ships will come to the Rebels’ aid Auldearn, making a hasty exit from the planet a more feasible endeavour. The body double could give the enemy a false centre of the Rebel line to attack. The Rebel player has to write down before the battle which leader model is the real one to make the outcome fair.
The real battle was really interesting to me. Auldearn 1645 (quarter to five).
There was great leadership gathering forces to get a battle line together and the boggy ground around a small village made the larger force falter and lose the day. Pickets clearing their damp muskets as they left the night watch alerted the forces to each other and the larger Covenanter army approached the camp of James Graham Earl of Montrose in charge of a small Royalist Irish and Scots army. The General and his double for the Legion scenario is trying to tell the story of the fact that Montrose tried to convince his enemy that his whole army was in strength in the village and unfurled the Royal colours above his best Irish troops. He hoped this would bring the enemy head on at the village rather than skirt the village and find that there was little to back up the troops in front of them masquerading as a solid centre to his force. It is unclear whether the Covenanters really fell for it but regiments of their troops were committed to fight the men under the precious flag and they ran into boggy ground. I wanted the wookies involved because I wanted to have a troop type famous for hand to hand fighting as well as being good at range and also with a temper. MacColla was leading Montrose’s veteran Irish force under the Royal standard as Montrose gathered his army spread around the surrounding countryside. At one point either it was clan hatred and aggression or a concern over lack of musket balls, but MacColla left the relative safe cover of the enclosures of the village edge and attacked the larger force in hand to hand combat. This seems like a wookie move to me. 🙂 The enemy sent in some of their cavalry to take advantage of the fact that the Irish were committed to their front already, but thankfully wasn’t as devastating as that sounds. The attack wasn’t driven home and Montrose managed to get some of his own hastily gathered cavalry involved to force the enemy cavalry away. The Covenanter horse fled into their own infantry causing confusion but not a route. The Irish were able to extricate themseleves from the boggy ground and go higher up into the village and eventually create a new battle line near the town’s church. There is debate as to whether there was a sweeping flank attack from the arriving Royalist reinforcements or whether the reinforcments fell naturally into the face of a slightly disorganised tired flank regiment trudging uphill. The point is mute really because the result was a rout regardless. Even though the Royalists were outnumbered the downward slope and solid ground they were able to hold, over neighbouring boggy ground their opponent was struggling with, and the poor leadership of the officers opposing them gave the Royalists confidence and momentum. The fighting was exchanges of musketry with bouts of close combat broken up by or threats of cavalry attacks or orders to defend higher up the village. The arrival of the Royalist Strathbogie regiment seems to be the killer blow that broke the Covenenters resolve. That’s why I suggest that the Easten most scenario deployment of Rebel troops be something worth waiting for. To arrive slightly later than the rest and either plug a hole the Rebels might be struggling with or find a weakened Imperial unit and put the boot in and wipe it out as it joins the fray. Montrose has been priased for his leadership and the way he turned the tables and read the land well and quickly, but also condemned as one of the many times where better scouting and reconnaissance might have saved him from being misfooted.
This is my offering as a member of House Rejuvenation.
For a reskin star wars game, how about the 1527 sac of Rome; specifically the last stand of the Swiss guard. The star wars version could be Rebels holding off waves of storm troopers while princess Leia escapes. Or a group of storm troopers holding off mercenaries as rear guard action to allow an imperial governor to escape.
I’m all for blocks of frozen fishmen! XD
hmm…… fishstickmen….. *drolls in Homer Simpson*
I’ve joined the Discord server but honestly I prefer the format of forums. Discord always feels like a giant whatsapp group, which is painful to keep up with. Already from the sheer number of notifications pushing through I’ve had to turn them off as I found myself too distracted by the phone!
Would hope that it doesn’t kill the forums (not that I’m a massive contributor, but I like to browse!)
As for the two arsehats that got you annoyed @warzan, it’s unfortunate that this is the internet we have to deal with.
I can understand not liking certain content creators, personality bias and personality clash can factor into that, but it’s a bit much to hate and despise a content creator you have never met. Sure maybe the OTT’s brand of chillaxed delivery isn’t to your taste or something along those lines, but really “hate and despise” is a bit strong. I find too many keyboard warriors are quick go full on hyperbole. hate and despise probably more accurately translates to “I dislike your presentation/content style but I’m too stupid to articulate it in a reasonable fashion so I rely on over-the-top hyper passionate phrasing”
I also can’t fathom why anyone would call OTT scummy, it’s hilarious considering some of the less reputable members of the gaming media.
Great topic on the reskinning. I’m not a Star Wars player, but I like the idea generally for use in games.
I’m with you on this @avien 🙂
We will be looking carefully to see how discord etc complement one another and key areas of crossover that work to the strengths of each platform.
Currently we see discord as a useful realtime environment for hangouts and house challenges and a couple of fun things we have planned.
But it’s important that all cogs try to keep the forums and comments a key part of our activities as they are far less transient and form part of the fabric of the content provided here.
So we should find ways for discord to support that if possible rather than disrupt it 🙂
Step by step
@warzan If you are on an old historical binge you might enjoy the Starz series The White Queen and the follow up The White Princess. Arguably the The White Princess is the better one and stars Jodie Comer.
Gerry elements of the 82nd jumped at Nijmegen still in theire old kit, likewise elements of us airborne that remained in Italy never received official issue, at one point they hadn’t enough jump boots so they proceeded into Naples and mugged anyone who wasn’t entitled to jump boots (mp’s and officer’s etc)
If you want a scenario that most aren’t aware of have a look at the battle of bamberbridge US MP’s vs black troops from a USAAF supply squadron
To star wars it, empire supply troops have barricaded themselves inside 3 pub/cantina with stormtroopers trying to apprehend them
Alternatively issandelawana with ewoks as the zulu
@avernos You KNOW you’ll have to paint that Airborne in D-Day uniforms, because you’ve done enough research now to KNOW it’s wrong if you have them painted up for late war but are playing D-Day battles. It will nag at your inner wargamer until you do so. This means ofc, you’ll have to buy a second load of Airborne to paint up as late war (for Arnheim) OR alternatively find a source of 15mm Americans in greatcoats for Bastogne.
Alas historical wargaming is just full of these pitfalls 🙁
but not my army, studio army, my own will be fine 😉
Love these. I’ve got a long commute twice a week and these make all the difference. You guys have gotten me to not just buy but actual jump in and play Kings of War and Warhammer 40k. Thank you guys for all the information and entertainment!
The solution to the person on Youtube should be: CoG cultists show up at his door and do whatever cultists do to make people respect them.
HOW can anyone despise @warzan ???
Very enjoyable episode folks.
I have a Nasier force from Wrath of Kings which recently came in handy for Test of Honor and will do nicely for a Samurai force in Warlords of Erehwon. It’s a shame Wok is dead as it was a fun game.
@warzan I think that your 50p tank would look great in the upcoming Judge Dredd game, a bit of graffiti on the side and it would fit right in.

On the subject of Trolls, I once made a comment defending somebody famous on Twitter. To cut a long story short their tweet ended up on The Mail online with me as one of the first 20 or so comments. I copped a lot of stick for that one. Most of the haters were spineless and blocked me as soon as making a nasty remark. Best ingored, not worth the time thinking about.
Have a great week folks.
