Happy Sunday all
HAPPY SUNDAY!!!
‘morning to you @tresilliian !
It takes a long time for me to get rid of _anything_. It’ll sit off to the side as a bitz box volunteer for ages, then it’ll sort of “just be there” for a while until I decide that I won’t ever use it again. That usually happens after my friends stop playing it.
I also don’t have the ambition to deal with fleabay, dealing with the website, the bidders, the shipping, urgh!!
Once I do start packing things up, more and more things go into boxes and the purging commences. I dump it all at my FLGS and start buying new stuff with the money.
Dumping at your local store can be a good idea for moving things on
happy sunday everyone,
Saturday I picked up my Nord Star box at the post office.
and today I can tinker with stargrave figures.???
?? ? the bird now thinks that he R2D2, BB8 and C1-10P (chopper) sound rolled into each other like 1 droid.
More 15mm! This is going to be a fiscally challenging week!
15mm is very alluring!
Happy Sunday!
It’s not necessarily the minis I need to get rid of, it’s all the paraphernalia that goes with them. It’s certainly been about 10 years since I did anything GW, so even if I don’t chuck the models I probably will not need the 2 editions out-of-date army books and drawers full of clipped sprues!
Been without a car for a few months (not been needing one) but am getting one this Thursday. The dump is one of those exotic places I have on my list to go first.
The hobby does produce a lot of tat!
If someone has the skills, taking the Skyclad box and swapping all the heads to Justin’s…
With you Gerry…never give in to the urge to sell minis, maybe pay it forward to the new generation. I still have armies from old hammer back in the 80’s
A proper treasure trove!
Thank you for the Golden Button! Well done to the other projects chosen, lovely work!
Happy Sunday!
Dumping an army is never an easy decision for me. I have done it – in fact, I’ve dumped entire game systems. I sold EVERYTHING for 40K when they screwed the rules and codices for the umpteenth time (and I’ve not regretted it since), I’m currently selling all my Adeptus Titanicus and ditching that game because I’m sick of needing 18 books to cover all the rules that may or may not be used in a game (see the CoG trading Bazaar), I ditched Flames of War when most of the things I owned became redundant, I ditched Star Wars: X-wing when I had to spend £250 just to upgrade my existing ships from 1.0 to 2.0 (not happening my friend!), I ditched Armada due to the continual meta leaps that meant one card from a new ship was always needed to balance the games out, I sold Deadzone because it never took off at my local club. In fact, I probably churn an entire game system every other year at least! Mostly because if no-one plays it, it just takes up space I could use for something I do play.
The Walking Dead could be the next one to go. It’s not played at our club or FLGS, despite having a strong presence in the store here.
And it’s this that is keeping me from buying Conquest – I just know it won’t take off with my local groups – AoS is the default position with just a couple of people buying KoW.
Seems a sensible approach!
Also – you want trees? Did you see my Trees project? (https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1623773/) It could be done more quickly if anyone else did it – but I am a super slow painter, and I need to be in the right frame of mind to paint anything!
Trees you say…? *heads to project immediately*
Ooh the XLBS show? one of the PPGs is quake from agents of shields guy’s

00:00 Duke Nukem? 50 shades of grey? WHAT?!
02:45 “Have you played yet?” Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude! Pandemic and such? 😉
03:10 “Powerpuffgirls of AoS” …. oh god… that reminds me of that furry/40k crossover video…. my eyes.
08:40 Saaagaaaa
14:10 I’m sure @avernos had someone come in to take the pictures.
16:45 Bikes… that can go everywhere! Who would have thought! XD
21:45 No Orks? What’s with every sci fi game not fielding orks!?
24:00 non D6 scare children…. not completely wrong there
50:30 Here be draggin’ people to the bright evil daystar…
59:00 Mötley Crüe!

1:07:15 Gerry showing of the skyclads and @dignity refusing to comment *g+
1:12:00 I’m with Gerry and Free on this one… but my pile of opportunity still fits in one cupboard so the need to clear space isn’t that huge… yet. Selective buying is a bliss in that regards. Limited funds also help focus on what to buy.
1:16:30 So…. @brennon is now filing the police report because some bugger cleared his flat? 😉
1:18:00 Gerry-itas? oO
1:21:10 downsizing the hoard? FOR THE HORDE!
1:35:00 double rows are the work of the devil!
…nday!
Where did my coffee go?
Happy Sunday.
I’ve gotten rid of quite a lot of stuff over the years, and I do regret some of it, particularly as nostalgia creeps in. My most recent clear out involved around 150 metal citadel ghouls from my old Vampire Counts army. I’ve kept around 12 of them to use for Frostgrave and (a very big) if we ever play Warhammer again I can always get a box or two of some much nicer looking plastic ghouls from either Mantic or GW.
A fabulous funny show guy’s?
I regularly will have a purge and get rid of stuff I’ll never paint or play. In the past when I stopped playing 40k I sold both of Space Marine armies, 4000 pts Blood Angels and a similar size of Dark Angels. The money I received from selling both of those funded new projects.
I had collected a ton of Rackham miniatures and sold those to fund some new camera lenses. I think if you get to a point where your not using an army and the lijely hood is that you’ll never use it, then it’s time to sell and fund a new project.
Back in 2019 there was a young lad who’d just gotten into war gaming and Age of Sigma with some friends and they’d set up a club at their school. I donated all my AoS rule books, White Dwarves and a bag of sprues to help get them going. I had at that point decided I wasn’t going to play AoS and would be put to better use with those young lads.
Good topic this week. I have an annual clear out when I have some time to get stuff on fleabay during the summer. I also have a runing catalogue of projects that I’m working on which gets an annual review. This allows me to track my interest and if something has been on this list for years and is no nearer getting to the part of the list that gets finished every year then in is on the endangered list and eventually it will be culled. Money made goes back into the hobby. My 3D printer last year was funded from the summer sale which saw all of my non-Primaris SM leave the collection.
I live in an apartment so space becomes an issue and I’ve got to purge games every now and then. Here in the States we have a company called Noble Knight games. You email them your list and they give you cash or store credit offer. I always go for store credit you get more. I usually use it for out of print games or miniatures because they have a huge selection.
Happy Sunday! 😀 Really ejoying the shows these days. Good hobby banter while i paint 🙂
I dislike players forums as they (majority) try to change the game into a GW game.
And then I said I would never listen to 50 shades of grey. …
Happy Sunday,
TIME FOR THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE
The one and only way of getting near 50 Shades of Grey is to hear in your head the narration of all the intensely involved scenes as done by Janine Garofalo (in her drab monotone), Gilbert Gottfried (in all his exciting vocal range.. think Iago from Aladdin) or Morgan Friedman (atleast done by the comedian who does a mean impression). Gerry has his work cut out for him. I can however consider his lurid description of how strangers met over the casual roll of a d20, their eyes meeting and the ensuing cries of “Roll to hit, baby!” that rang out late in the night… lol
HAPPY SUNDAY, well now on the subject of getting rid of stuff my train of thought is just if i ain’t going to play with it anymore it just goes, i sell or give to the charity shop, except for my Lord of The LCG collection that will be buried with me. But i do like collecting rule books why i haven’t a clue!
Yup. I’m the hoidy toidy album guy(vinyl)…… ?
I’ve gotten rid of two Dystopian War fleets, two Blood Bowl teams, an Orc and High Elf Warhammer army, a huge Epic 40K Imperial army, a Bolt Action American force + American Konflikt units, a Haqqislam force plus two boxes of scatter terrain for the Infinity game, a Flesh Tearers Kill team, and finally a large 15mm Wermacht army for Flames of war.
The saddest thing is that they were all painted, but they were not played anymore and I needed space.
Happy Sunday, CoGs!
Another thought provoking episode.
A number of my friends are experts at cycling through their gaming collections and culling what they no longer use. One friend builds and paints amazing tables from the terrain to the minis, plays with them for a year or two before selling them off as a bulk collection. I am the other end of the spectrum (yet more I seem to have in common with Gerry). I’ve been gaming for a very long time (looking at my white box zero edition Dungeons & Dragons) and suffer from a terminal case of Collectoritus that combines with a crippling sense of nostalgia. Like Gerry, I have complete armies of minis for both Warhammer (going back to first edition) and Kings of War. I’m happy to say the dwarf and undead forces are painted and have fought many a campaign but then that also means it is impossible to consider parting with such longtime companions. Don’t get me wrong, there is even more unpainted stuff in my collection than painted but it is difficult to consider getting rid of if I really like the toys. I have an entire box full of Hasslefree dwarfs that will eventually become an army. Some minis I will often find uses for in future games. Some, like my chaos dwarf siege tower, were a quest to acquire and feel a little like trophies. Must be because I was born in the year of the Dragon that I have this genetic need to hoard pretty things…
How come in all that Firefight scale chat, nobody mentioned Star Wars Legion? One of two vehicles per side, 50 models or less?
When Firefight V2 was announced I was musing on the lack of a 28mm sci-fi army game that isn’t a licenced IP or 40k. In theory it is Gates of Antares but I have never seen that on a table.
Hopefully by giving the project a proper focus Mantic can get some steam behind Firefight. While Gerry may think it was the game Mantic were wrong to make, I very much see Warpath as the mispitch. It requires a huge investment in models and effort that would be better served at 15mm or even smaller.
GW put little effort into 40k Apocalypse for the same reason, it is catering to a niche of player who can be bothered to cram a ridiculous number of models onto a table that is probably too small to let anything maneuver before a bucket of dice sweeps it off again.
Cheers for another Golden Button to add to my collection 🙂
Firefight is so hot right now.
FYI, Universal Battle works well for playtest games of Firefight (you’ll find all the factions/units ready made in the paid version). And Mantic have announced a real world playtest day at Nottingham HQ on 25th July. Grab a £0 ticket on the webstore.
Good show! I find it very difficult getting rid of old stuff. When I finally decided that I’d get rid of my unused and mostly unpainted 40k IG, I got no interest. Perhaps I wasn’t meant to get rid of it!
@fcostin: I also still have my old Pokémon deck from waaaaaaaay back. I keep it around for when I get challenged to a nostalgia duel. This duel has not taken place yet…
Going through a purge at the moment. Few armies that are still sitting sealed in boxes. Couple have made it as form as assembly and have sat there for years. Couple have been there for over a decade. Started looking at historical games during the lockdown so the purge is funding the move into different rules sets and games.
