Yes, I mean that quiet literally. Context:

AMG has announced a new terrain piece for Star Wars: Legion.  A downed X-Wing in 4 pieces with a pilot, one upgrade card and 3 new scenario cards.

And my FLGS has it on pre-order.

    For 92,99 Euro.

Yepp. 92,99 shiney euros for 4 pieces of plastic, a miniature and 4 cards.

    https://www.fantasywelt.de/Star-Wars-Legion-ndash-Abgestuerzter-X-Fluegler-DE

Now for the really fun part: you can get an X-Wing model in 1:57 (fits SW:L almost perfectly) for 23,99 Euro.

Reminder: the core set is 99 Euro and to date the most expensive terrain expansion was the bunker for 74,99. Which had a bunker, was modular and game with a lot more bits to be used as terrain in different way. And cards. And that was already ridiculously overpriced.

    92,99 Euro.

That puts even some of G’Wullus aspirations to shame.

    YEEBUS.

I was early in to SW:L but dropped out as the prices went up and the game became an overly complex mess.

They have now jumped the shark.

I can argue about some price raises and I can understand some “need to make a buck from it” to a degree but this just takes the cake. The cards will be online within days (or hours) of release and everything else in that box is just plastic tat. And it’s not even like they are the only ones making official SW stuff. Like the models from Revell and others.

Sorry for the outburst lads, but this is just two steps to far.

I’m almost tempted to get a model kit and proxy the shit out of that.

Flock I’m furious…. and I can’t even tell you why.

Anyhow, weekender starts soon and I’ve got minis to paint.

Ouch, I knew AMG were getting pricey (particularly with their larger models), but that’s just silly levels of markup 🙁

Given that price, nearly EVERYONE who play the game will be using the plastic kit instead (and why have it destroyed, you could just model it as “landed” for troops to hide behind for a lot more flexibility for a terrain piece (plus it wouldn’t have a large base that would only tie in with one suface/mat etc)).

At some point the boys in marketing “jump the shark”, and I think they’ve definitely managed to do it with this one 😀

That price doesn’t really surprise me, I thought the tank was too expensive when it came out, the game has only gone up since then. I’m seriously wondering if I should actually buy the two character packs that just came out, nearly $45 for 4 models with a discount, or just 3d print them. I’d have to proxy the tokens too, though I have the hole punches for just such eventualities.

I know it ranked well on ICV2 for several years, but I always felt like this game didn’t meet Asmodee’s projections (however sky high), just an intuition. And it became one of those products where it’s more about squeezing the maximum dollars out of those who are willing to pay, and not worrying about trying to build a broader audience. Hence the prices need to go up very rapidly.

Then again, stuff goes on sale.

Geez that makes GW terrain pieces seem reasonably priced in comparison.

and that’s making it even worse IMHO

guess I’ll be voting with my wallet

I agree it’s expensive, but it’s quite a large terrain kit. “4 pieces of plastic” is understating it.

It certainly doesn’t make me angry. Sundancer, where does your fury really come from?

Also £30 for GW clippers, just saying…

Just because another company sells rebranded tools for way to much doesn’t give any other company an excuse to do so too.

And again: you can get the same size of X-Wing for 1/4 of the price. Just cut it up and you have the same amount of terrain.

If I still had a FLGS around who would stock that kit I would get over there with a scale and weight it and we could be talking about €/kg of plastic and I’m willing to bet that it still would be twice as expensive.

An expansion to a game shouldn’t be as expensive as the core game itself. Or at least bring as much value to the table. This one does neither.

And I’m not angry (although I might sound like I am) I’m disappointed. Legion started with a much better value proposition in regards to €/mini then most “big games” do but now have ramped up prices so fast that newer players won’t join in. And why would they? If they need to put a lot of money on the table why not go with the system all their friends play. And that’s mostly 40k/AoS.

Legion had a chance to really be big and special and they’re just starting to make the same stupid decisions that G’Wullu made.

Oh well. I’ll be voting with my wallet (as I said).

@sundancer I have been using scale models as Scenery pieces for a while now – it just makes sense.  When you are faced with prices like that, why wouldn’t you?

I’ve got a Pelican from Halo and a couple of aircraft from Robotech.  If people are looking for a guide, I find models in the 1:48 range work quite well for 28mm games in most cases.

To tell the truth I am seriously thinking of getting shot of my Star Wars stuff, can never get a game, just gathers dust and actually I think the rules are so over complex that it is hard to get new players involved.

I am all for supporting a game but the company needs to support its player base to and there is little of that.

    My opinion

Keep the minis (because they ARE nice), just change the rules over to something more playable (perhaps “Gruntz”?)

Or Stargrave or something One Page Rules or just don’t use all the keywords in the new expansions. There’s so many options!

I’m keeping mine to use with Xenos Rampant.

SW:L should have been a simple fun tabletop game. Instead (as usual with FFG) it just became a complicated (or more to the point fiddly) mess.

It never ceases to amaze me how nobody seems capable of making a successful Star Wars Miniatures game.  Despite everything and some of the dross produced by Disney it’s still massively popular among nerds.  Even the most ardent haters of the new Disney Era Star Wars still love all the older works, particularly the original trilogy. And yet, apart from X-wing 1st edition seems to have fallen flat (and they obviously managed to do the same with x-wing version 2).  Is it the companies making the games, the setting itself or something else?

€99 for a ruined x-wing obviously isn’t helping.  I would be buying a Revell X-wing snapkit and breaking it up before paying that kind of money.  Hell, I might even go balls out and get a Millennium Falcon!  It’s so weird because I always thought Legion seemed to be quite reasonably priced.  I never played it so I don’t know what the value for money was really like but it never seemed to be particularly over priced.
