    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Questions:

    • Jumping into new stuff, what is more important to you? The shiny new miniatures or the good rules?
    • Did you ever go “full in” on any given miniatures game only to find yourself being the only one locally?
    • Why is this weekender late?

And now back to the show.

Pledge: continuing on the terrain challenge

    Answers:

    • If something catches my eye I’ll have a second look. If someone talks well about something I might give it a second look even if the style is not 100% mine. But over all I go more for looks. After all they will end up on my shelf and I would like to enjoy looking at them
    • Not really “full in” but when I started with Fallout Wasteland Warfare there wasn’t much of anything around here. Which in no small part was the fault of Modiphious delaying the delivery over and over again
    • I was drinking beer at a party. That’s why!

This week’s pledge is to paint my next mini limited to black, white, and three colour paints (to be selected randomly by my daughter). I saw a recent project in the unofficial hobby hangout where they had done that and thought it would be an interesting challenge.

    1. Jumping into new stuff, what is more important to you? The shiny new miniatures or the good rules? – I rarely jump, but when I do it is usually because others I know are already playing. So I guess it’s the rules which are popular.
    2. Did you ever go “full in” on any given miniatures game only to find yourself being the only one locally? – I don’t know anybody locally playing Conquest, but I only bought it for an army painting project so I’m not bothered.
    3. Why is this weekender late? – Life?

Difficult choice. Sometimes I want the miniatures for something else, so the rules don’t matter. But other times I want the rules to be good because I have minis I want to use. So I guess that means my answer is yes… and no… 🙂

I went nuts on Imperial Assault and have everything except for the battlemats. I have played the main campaing once, but need to get around to playing another campaign. It’s the one game where I have painted everything and on the plus side I’m using the minis in WEG Star Wars.

This weekender is late because… just because…

    Pledge: Get some stuff done

    • Shiny minis!!!!
    • I am definitely the only one in my area who plays SAGA. I did get a friend on board only as I had bought, built and painted a complete force for him. I might be able to get a game with him every few months.
    • The Weekender was late because John had been hotrodding about with his tanks in the mud again. It might be true.

The root of all evil – imagination!

I came to some thinking.. yes, it was dangerous.

My hobby joy is at a standstill with painting and I am swinging back toward my wont for building miniatures. It is not an easy thing as I see so much kitbashing and desire to make cool things I will likely never play with. I decided, after watching some wonderful video of awesome kitbashes, to jump my mind onto Turnip28 as a means of exercising my inner demon (he’s been a bit of a lounge-about as of late). I also blame the fact that I just rewatched “The Brothers Grimm” not long ago.

Seeing you don’t need many units or minis for a playable army I turned my thoughts to what might be on the board. With the flavor of the game and nature of the setting I’ve considered, should I ever play, to styling a build after the Bavarians. Yes, you can make a banner appropriate for the setting for this force in this game world and it’d need a graphic designer for the matter.

Lookout! Ze Germans (Bavaraians) arr koming!!! We may need @sundancer to standby and help out here.

    Game: Turnip28

Army: Die Blau Rüben (The Blue Turnips)

    Cult: TBD

Toff: Komm. Edvard Gruberman “die Gurke”

    Toadie: Herr Reinhold Schupfnudel

    Herr Kraus Kartoffelpuffer

    Chaff/Fodder:

    Filderkraut Jaegers

    Spargelkopff Korps

    Mangelwurzelmensch

    Stumpgun:

    Unsere Glorreiche Sturmkartoffelkanone

    “Our Glorious Storm-potato gun”

What game and force theme would you build that you likely will never do but looks interesting in your head?

    Pledge:  still building 1/700 ships………………….but

I recently fell in L***………no, I have become enamored with ‘Mordhiem’.  I’m not sure why.  But it has taken up space in my mind.  I’m currently shopping around for minis that are just right for conversion.  I’ve been playing a lot of videos in the hobby studio that talk about ‘Mordhiem’ and also the terrain for it, while I’m working on my WWII ship models.

    Questions:

    1) Jumping into new stuff, what is more important to you? The shiny new miniatures or the good rules?

Answer: almost always the miniatures catch my eye first.  Sometimes the rules have a lot of hype that get my attention.

    2) Did you ever go “full in” on any given miniatures game only to find yourself being the only one locally?

Answer: I’m always the only one playing the games I’m interested in……….the gaming group around here burned itself out.  All have moved away or ‘grown up’ …… (heaven forbid I ever succumb to that illness). I still try every now and then to get someone interested in playing tabletop war games.   There are still RPG players around.   But RPGs are not tabletop games.

    3) Why is this weekender late?

    Answer:  Was it Late?

    Life?

    @danlee pretty much XD

@horati0nosebl0wer  first of Bavarians are just “some” Germans. Same as Texans are “some” American and so on. Very important if you talk to anyone outside Bavaria!

    corrections:

Die Blau Rüben “Die blauen Rüben”

Filderkraut Jaegers “Filderkraut Jäger” (Jäger being the same in singular and plural)

Spargelkopff Korps “Spargelkopf” (just one F for Kopf)

Mangelwurzelmensch deficiency root men? What?! XD

What game and force theme would you build that you likely will never do but looks interesting in your head?

Ewoks but in a Smurf setting. So blue fur, white hats and living in giant shrooms!

I recently fell in L***………no, I have become enamored with ‘Mordhiem’. I’m not sure why.

@templar007  I’d say: nice minis, lovely looking terrain and much more freedom in designing your forces than curren G’Wullu games? Also nostalgia? And it’s played in “smaller scale” if I remember correctly?

Monday morning. The first morning driving to work on the new bicycle. Still sweating like a pig but not as bad any more. Also my digestive system seems to be working better. Who knew?

Perhaps you should try eating baked beans for that bit of ‘turbo boost’ when you cycle 🙂

Don’t want to risk a speeding ticket!

What can we do as hobbyists to be creative without spending money? We can dream up forces that might be interesting to see on a board and then flesh it out to share with others that might build and play with them.

@sundancer Ok, I agree on the Germans/Texans anaolgy, though the selection of Napoleonic figures is pretty well stacked for being either French or British. Considering the tops of the Bavarian headwear looks like sprouting vegetables already without conversion I thought it easy to make changes for the theme of the game story. It also doesn’t hurt that some of the uniforms are green so painting vegetable soldiers wouldn’t be as weird in a limited pallette centering around that color. Mud brown reigns supreme but something brighter can exist. Nuts to the white uniforms (those poor washer women).

Overall Turnip28 is a fun mental exercise. Those blue furred bastards you’re trying to push into my head (Noooo!) have no place other than the Jedi murder planet of Order 66. They’re all wrong for the fact that nobody is wearing any pants. For God’s sake, put on some pants! Beyond that, thank you for the correction on spelling.

Mordheim is the same visual appeal of Turnip28 in the grimdark medieval. All sorts of gribbly textures and wild excursion into paranormal madness.

Lol.. it looks like you started to move your body and it is moving those bowels. Congratulations on your improved gastrointestinal health!

@danlee Limited pallette in monochrome? Ouch

@pagan8th All in or atleast far enough to reach the bottom. As long as you enjoy the minis its all good. The worst case scenario is you just hand then off to someone else to enjoy

@templar007 Good to hear you’re still plugging away at your ships. Consistency is key.

Mordheim is the same visual appeal of Turnip28 in the grimdark but medieval. All sorts of gribbly textures and wild excursion into paranormal madness makes for fun times. As far as conversions there are plenty of plastic kits out there to mess with and play. It all boils down to the warband you want to play.

@horati0nosebl0wer its black, white and three colours. I.e. a coloured model but black and white are available to darken or lighten the three base colours. Still going to be a challenge for me as I tend to depend on my wide range of colours and the usual paint system where lighter and darker shades are available in their own pots.

Wookies also do not wear pants. Neither do Hutts. Unsure about Jawas

    It’s Wednesday.

It’s getting a bit colder in the mornings so I’m no longer sweating like a pig when arriving at work. Only like a small piglet.

But coffee is here and no one else so that is good.

    #1834378

Zootopia taught us that Naturist animals are accepting of their own nakedness and that wearing clothes is the weird part. Wookies and Hutts know this. Jawas all wear brown dresses anyway so no need for pants.

Speaking of cooler temperatures, its yet to do that with triple digit Fahrenheit where I am. Go and be comfortable coffee pig. Spiderham? Leshen? Gerry?
