Leading the charge on the Ancient battlefield Victrix have shown off some more of their cavalry coming to the tabletop soon. Here we have their Later Hellenistic Greek/Successor Cavalry.

Later Hellenistic Greek Successor Heavy Cavalry (Standard)

The first image shows one of their riders with a shield in one hand and a standard in the other. What marks them out as being from the later period is the style of the helmet and the fact they are using the aforementioned shields.

Another of their riders is galloping into battle with javelins in hand.

It's interesting that heavy cavalry, during this period of time, still used ranged weapons like this. I guess it's because if you were looking at it from a medieval point of view, or even a different Ancient angle, they'd have barded warhorses and be clad in much more armour.

These models however still subscribe to much more of a skirmishing role, acting as a quick alternative to the solid blocks of infantry fighting on either side.

What do you think of the models so far?
