Weekender: Ronnie Renton Talks Kings Of War & More!
November 29, 2014 by dignity
On this episode of The Weekender we have one of our favourite guests, Ronnie Renton! He's dropped by to talk about the Kings of War Kickstarter, DreadBall, Dungeon Saga, Deadzone and even a little bit about Warpath for next year (we can't wait either!).
If you like competitions we also have one of them! A free chapter of Containment Protocol is going out to everyone and a lucky winner is also going to get their hands on a signed copy of DreadBall Xtreme AND a years free access to Mantic Digital!
Here are the links for the free chapter of Containment Protocol in EPUB, Kindle and PDF formats.
The full book is available HERE!
As well as all the Mantic talk we'll be chatting about our move to the new studio and the potential for more live Google Hangouts like the one we had with Megacon Games. The next one should be this Wednesday with Justin, Lloyd and Warren all about our future plans.
We'll also be announcing our Myth Week winners so stay tuned if you had a go at that!
Have a great weekend!

Riverside Studio, sounds all BBC and Pebble Mill.
I’ve been awake all night due to insomnia but the silver lining is I can at least I can watch this before I go to bed. Thanks 🙂
Obviously it would depend on the game but I’d definitely be up for a tournament. If it were learn-to-play I’d prefer there to multiple games available to try.
Great show as always.
I cannot wait for xtreme and i want a nature army for KoW.ALso Justin were did you get that T-Shirt?
New studio and Ronnie!!!! Best way to start a weekend!
Really Great prize, i hope I win this time!
Whee dreadball
dreadball please, please ,please looks ace!!
Great show guys, loving the new studio. Ronnie as always great value and I’m really look forward to dreadball extreme, cant for that to arrive.
Dreadball got to get it.
I have a gap in my collection for a sports game… 🙂
Great video as always guys
Another awesome show guys.
I love watching Ronnie spill the beans. Lol
I have to say though… Whilst Mantic make games that are awesome to play as one offs. Their campaign/progression/experience systems are garbage. And after watching this I don’t hold much hope for that changing in the future. 🙁
Great stuff about KoW and even better knowing book will be translated to spanish!
Let’s see…a weekend getaway somewhere in Ireland, with games, booze and a place to sleep?
Count me and my brother in law in, please. A Fantast tournie, or a mini-campaign? Or Wolsung? Would love to be taught how to play a good skirmish game.
Get the Bushido people over!
I shall enjoy watching
Great show as always. Great stuff from Mantic Games.
Always good to hear from Ronnie, specially with more deadzone! think I will plan a game this weekend. Will have to get into dread ball it sounds like a really great game.
Good show dudes.
Hey Ronnie, how about a sci-fi base crawl?
mantic is doing better and better.
Great show as always. Riverside studio looks fantastic!
I wish I had the cash to keep up with all the mantic kickstarters. The new KOW stuff looks great
love it when Ronnie is on the show he allways gives out juicy info
Ronnie’s the man.
Ronnie the legend, good luck with the new studio, how about themed weekends, reps from the game company with tutorial and demo sessions, I’d pay for that
Whilst I backed this as a great game, I would love a copy to use as incentive to get others into the game as well.. BTW Ronnie and Mantic and BoW all rock!
Great show. Looking forward to Dreadball Xtreme.
Nice Weekender, awesome to have Mr Renton spilling some of the secrets about the present and future of their games.
Ronnie should be an honorary Beast. It is so good to have one of the industries great enthusiasts on the show.
Especially when he spills the beans and drops HUGE hints
My only request regarding a rank and file based army game is to be allowed to field a horde as a set of 8 or more. That way you can field 8 x 5 ranks which, aesthetically (and only aesthetically) looks far nicer, chunkier than 10×4.
Just my 2p.
I should really get into Dreadball, looks a good game.
weekend of gaming with the guys from BOW sound awesome. you should make it a prize and the winner could pick pick the venue there are interested in or choose an event you guys are planning in the upcoming year.
i like the teaching a new game idea. having knowlegdeable player or guest from the company would be totally cool
Dreadball is tempting me the more & more I look at it…….
Great show, but VERY worried these Abyss models will be cartoonish looking. Very concerned about this.
Like the look of your package;-)
Might give dread-ball a go if i get my hands on it.
Ronnie is alway excellent on the show
I would 100% be up for a learn to play.. The chance to have a go at a game with a great bunch of like minded people HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have hit on a huge goldmine. The possibilities are endless I would be there every weekend lol. I work shifts and don’t get to game to much what with time family etc so the chance to just get away and just game etc would be fantastic. You could even run classes for airbrushing/painting/modelling etc. Bring it on I cant wait 🙂
And now I’m considering adding a third mega army to my pledge…
Great to get a Mantic update. I haven’t looked at their stuff in years.
Great show guys. Count me in for a tournament at the riverside studio.
I’ll take a free game
Didn’t go with Extreme (friend did, got some teams) – but love Dreadball so option to win is great
Looking forward to a warpath release.
Dreadball looks so great 🙂
Great show, Ronnie is amazing. Love the stencils.
Mantic is amazing. I really hope BoW continue to support them heavily!
Damn it, my nearest airport stopped doing flights to Ireland years ago. So two flights each way or a gruelling 13 hour drive.. but still totally worth it!
damn dreadball looks damn awesome :O
Got to love Ronnie lol 🙂
well dreadball is by far my favorite sci-fi game and it looks like Mantic’s Dungeon Saga will my favorite fantasy game, so long live to manticgames!!!
Loved the show but I’m now absolutely bummed out cos I didn’t win myth… Darn it!
You should combine the come to the Riverside studio to learn mini games and Ronnie. Have Ronnie come in ans teach the alpha(maybe even future beta) version of Warpath 🙂
I’d travel from Sweden to you guys for that!
i see that mantic is going well!^^
So excited to see everything coming from Mantic right now. Next year is going to be exciting!
love the sound of you guys doing gaming events. also like the look of dreadball extreme sounds like a lot of fun.
As always, good stuff !
I backed the KoW kickstarter and I’d love to win that dreadball xtreme set.
Love Ronnie and Mantic in general, can’t wait for Dreadball Extreme!
Mantic looking real good
Hey Warren ask Ronnie if it would be possible to leave enough spine on the softcover book so we can turn it into a spiral bound book for ease of use. We do that to our FOW books and it makes them much easier to use. Thanks and love the show!!!
Absolutely have Ronnie on to show Warren and BoW the WarPath Alpha…do it as a show on how a game progresses from idea to final product, throw in anecdotes from Ronnie on how it went down with other products and some conjecture on how it may go with Warpath on future development….could be neat!
Love the Sphyr art for the DreadBall Season 4 book!
Cracking episode. Gotta love Ronnie. All good stuff, but bring on new Warpath!
Ronnie is always a treat to watch, as he’s so enthusiastic about the games. And it never hurts him letting out a couple of secrets 😉 Oh yes, and Dreadball Extreme please 😀 I have certain friends I’m trying to lure over to the dark side (miniature gaming), and Dreadball Extreme would be the perfect place to start 😀
Great weekender! Ronnie’s got so much passion for the hobbies and Mantics direction, looking forward to even better things from them next year!
Dreadball Xtreme looks good.
Just a thought about River-Studio-Con, since Justine and Warren were debating about whether to make is a BS exclusive or now. Why not give the BS guys and girls a 2-week window before general sign up, another little perk for being a Back Stage Member.
I think that’s a very fair idea 🙂
Yeah I was thinking a lot about this after the show (damn @dignity and his ingeniously camouflaged genius!!! Lol)
Great show. Dreadball extreme looks like a blast. I have looked at dreadball many times but never pulled the trigger.
Also, can’t wait for Dungeon Saga, looks fantastic so far!
Good old Ronnie, just can’t keep a secret 🙂
Looks like Mantic have a couple more years of releases before they have to come up with new ideas
Dreadball looks interesting. The access to Mantic Digital would be great, as I love to read.
Great Weekender!! Love hearing about all the stuff Mantic is up to
Ronnie is awesome and is a great rep for my favorite games company. Everything they do is is fantastic. Keep it up Mantic my hats off to you!
Great video
Good show….so many things to buy and no dollars left after Christmas shopping….
I almost was the first to comment on this last night, but a freak of technology prevented me. I’m so glad! Never be the first to post on prizewinning videos!
Loved hearing what’s coming from Mantic. Can’t wait for WP.
DBX is looking ace
Just getting into Mantic games and I have to say I really enjoy when Ronnie appears on the show… I was looking at Deadzone and now with him talking about the Veer-myn coming into it… (I love ratmen, Skaven was my first army when I first started playing Warhammer Fantasy… WAAAYYYY long ago). Must have. Really liking Beasts of War and loving the weekenders… thanks guys.
Great show guys.
Great show!
I want more Dreadball!
I like the idea of the gamer weekend.
Would be refreshing to see some new games or simply to play against people you otherwise would never have met.
Good show guys. Is Justine’s chair too high? He looks uncomfortable and too high for the table.
Nice weekender, look forward to where all these games are going.
Mantic looks like some very interesting ranges, didn’t realise they were the Mars Attacks peeps.
Great show!
I’ve met Ronnie at GenCon a few times and had a talk. You can definitely tell that he has a passion for creating war games and not just out to make a profit.
Interesting talk. It’s a shame there won’t be any Warpath for a fair while, suppose I will need to concentrate on KoW.
Haven’t had a chance to watch the whole thing yet, but am looking forward to the rest of it later.
Well, it seems Mantic is going to continue to take my money for the foreseeable future.
Great interview although you’ve done it again and I have now backed the KOW KS… look forward to albs tomorrow..
That box of Monopoly on top of Warhammer Quest (behind Justin) is hurting my inner nerd 🙂
I most likely won’t be able to come to the meetup, but I think having multiple games event on the same day is more suitable for you guys, instead of a single game tournament. It’ll promote more growth in the industry and brings more people together in the same pot.
Single game tournament is also a great idea, but it should come after you realize the multiple games event first.
I volunteer in hospital radio and would love to interview Ronnie as I prattle on and on about my gaming on air, ansd I really love watching him on your shows as he is so passionate about the hobby and it shows..
Can you give me any advise about how to approach him to try and arrange something
Glad to have a Weekender again! I’m a big fan of Mantic games and figures.
Love the look of the new Dreadball Xtreme.
Looks like a lot of fun.
The Weekender has recently become a nice Sat. morning review for me of all the gaming news and goodies, thanks.
This show was great as I’m a Dungeon Saga pledger and current KoW pledger (first army) the problem is the show today got me also wanting Dreadball. Give my wallet a break!
The weekend gaming / learning sessions sound great, I’ll try to piggyback on a business trip to keep my costs down, have one mid March!
Dreadball Extreme looks great. Going to see if one of my mates want to go in with me.
Another good show guys and Warren congrats on your new bub.
Seeing as i’m an NFL fan, wouldn’t mind playing dreadball
This show makes my Saturday morning. Great job guys as usual
Interesting.
Well too far away to ever get to a BoW event, but on another forum we were plotting playing a DBX tournament over Vassal, might be nice to be able to put our results up on a global mantic table
Dreadball would be a very nice Christmas present….as I’m unemployed 🙁
Love Dreadball and really looking forward to Dreadball Xtreme!
Dreadball xtreme looks so cool!
great weekender guys getting very excited about the KOW kick starter, i love the idea of weekend events at BOW, both the Tournaments and the learn to play introduction to games idea too 🙂
The new studio looks great.
Well, it looks just like the old one… maybe a bit more spacing between you guys and a bit more space in front of the table, but otherwise a really nice copy of Studio One.
Sound was spot on as well – I’ve no idea how you managed to get it right on the first show!
I can’t help but get excited when Ronnie starts talking! He managed to get me to back kings of war when I wasn’t going to!
So, do they think they can revisit the original dreadball teams and make them like the extreme it would open it up to more boardgame audience.
I’m really liking the sound of “Next year is the year of Dreadball.” I having so much fun with my veer-myn team, I’m curious about Deadzone just so that I can play with veer-myn more. 🙂
GIMME GIMME GIMME
Man. Was really hoping to get the Myth…
Love the new studio great show again.
Ill have to earn a lot of brownie points to get away to Ireland for the weekend, but it sure sounds interesting! I think the suggestion of a new game with 1st day dedicating to learn it and the a small winner takes all as your only going to have effectively half a day for it. Mmm…. sounds good!
good to hear from ronnie on KoW, i was a bit suspicious of the 2nd edition, but he’s convinced me that it is necessary, but ill hold off with the kickstarter and wait for the retail version. Also holding out for warpath, it certainly sounds promising, but again we’ll have to wait to see how that transpires. Things are lokking good for 2015!
wow always wanted to try dreadball
Very interesting show, Dreadball Xtreme looks very nice.
Great information, glad to hear about the big plans Mantic has!
I would dearly love to come out to Ireland and spend a whole weekend gaming (and drinking) with the Beasts of War crew. It would be a fantastic centerpiece to a vacation in Ireland, since I’d be crossing the Atlantic from Maine.
Some advantages to the ‘learn a game(s)’ weekend theme.
**If we played simple ‘out of the box’ armies/games, with tables all set up with everything necessary provided, then that would spare my precious armies from the tender ministrations of baggage handlers.
**Because everyone has a different level of seriousness in their approach to gaming. This can lead to frustrations between ‘gamer rage’ and people taking things ‘too seriously’. If the theme of the day is “We’re all having fun learning something new” then people can relax and understand that mistakes will be made and misunderstandings are just that.
**If I were to be able to make it to a gathering I would either have my wife with me as a participant or she would have to find something else to do alone for the duration. With a learning environment she could play also and not feel bad about not being an expert in whatever she was playing. And then she would be able to participate in the ‘war stories’ and ‘tall tales’ later that evening and not feel like a ‘hanger on’ or bystander.
Keeping her happy and entertained, would make it so much more likely that I will be able to enjoy my weekend.
So there we have my two cents wrapped around three ideas.
Dreadball Extreme looks like an awesome addition to the game system
i wish the best for Mantic (and for us as buyers 😛 )
Im always in for a little TAP, TAP, TAP Warren 😉
Oh you were meaning with the airbrush. My bad.
Like the direction they are going with Dreadball
weekend of gaming… sounds great, too bad I’m in the states!
Love seeing Ronnie on things, so much information to get excited about. And what could be better than my everything Dreadball Xtreme pledge when it arrives…… My Dreadball Xtreme pledge and a signed copy of the game of course 🙂
Always good to hear Ronnie chatting away.
Good to see the new studio up and running, and all the options it brings to the team.
I managed to miss DBX on kickstarter – money supplies < needed for all the awesomeness out there.
Gaming weekends with BoW just seems like more reason to get my overseas holiday sorted out sooner rather than later as well
great show guys but this is costing me a fortune yet another kickstarter backed
Love those Firefly minis
Token comment…
Great show folks, would like to get into a tournament with this
BOW weekend sounds good, and learning other games would be a laugh!
And I’m leaning towards @dignity comment about backstagers coming first, you know what with us making it all possible as is pointed out on a regular basis…
thanks Ronnie! I cannot wait to play my first game of KOW and Dungeon Saga!! This is gonna be awesome! Thanks for another great Weekender guys!
Cool show. Looking forward to more as always!
I gotta say, Vikings might be what finally drives me in to playing Kings of War.
great video again
I’m fairly new to BOW and even newer to Backstage, and watching this weekender is the first time I’d seen Ronnie Renton despite having heard the name. All I can say is, blimey that bloke is enthusiastic! He’s got so much passion and watching him talk about every single game they make made me want to go out and play myself….like now! I used to work for GW, and got fed up with all the politics and secrecy, so it’s such a breath of fresh air to hear a games producer talk so freely about their products and wanting to create a hype! I got rid of all my GW stuff as it was depressing me, but am now looking to get back into another system. Problem is they all looked fantastic! I’m probably leaning towards Kings of War but it’s a toss up between that and Dreadball. But I guess I may be in with a chance of winning Dreadball Extreme, you don’t realise how happy that would make me!
Anyway, keep it up guys! Fantastic show as always, can’t wait for XLBS in the morning!
hey guys…
did you know hobby link japan?
is a japan store for models and action figure, I already buy some stormtrooper and Dart Vader like yours, but smaller, from them in my Black Friday compulsive buying time …
cool dreadball session I’m tempted from Xtreme version , I have the basic one …
I totally forgot that Extreme and my final Deadzone stuff was coming until this video. Ronnie pulled out the Extreme box and I got massively excited. Thanks Ronnie for being so accessible for people like Beasts of War and other media outlets. I love Mantic and all that they do. Looking forward to the Deadzone Kick #2 and the Warpath Kickstarters. I am also loving how the smaller game miniatures ( Deadzone, Dungeon Saga) are going to cross over to their larger brothers(Warpath, Kings of War). It is that aspect of Warmachine and Hordes that I enjoy so much. Two games that are played differently, but can be played together. Getting more mileage from my minis is always a plus.
Looking forward to KOW 2, loving that they’re adding so many extra units in the KS
I am opposed to non-removable units!
Until the advantages have been explained to me, and the. I’m quite enamoured with them! I have to say, Ronnie hit 7 or 8 points that just made me say: wow, I really haven’t given Mantic enough credit. I’m not new to who they are; I know they’ve been a good game company and produce good minis; I’ve seen their kickstarters – but until Ronnie laid it out for us, all
At once, grand scheme – I suppose until then I have never really “got” what they’re about. And now I feel like I do, and they’re awesome! I think I’m officially a polygamist, Corvus Belli on one arm, now Mantic on the other; GW made me feel ugly and useless and now I feel like the prettiest girl at the dance!
It’s so cool to have a company that actually cares about it’s customers. My girlfriend and I are huge fans of everything Mantic puts out- we both love the fluff and the designs are so solid! Can’t wait to see some Warpath!!!Cheers boys!!! Me and my mates are ready for more!!!
Great show once again.
I want to win that!!!
Great Show as always. Was good to see RR containing his excitement 🙂 The guys is amazing and the world of table top gaming would not be what it is today without him! That being said pop me down for the draw….fingers crossed
Great show – almost ready to sign up for back-stage.
Would definitely be up for one of your ‘Gaming Academy’ sessions to get into and learn a new game – sounds like a great excuse to escape life the universe and everything. Tournaments are OK too but often taken far too seriously – learning a new game, or having a game with new people and no tournament pressure and being thrown in the deep end sounds cool.
that Dreadball is looking extremely fun
Great show guys.
I’m not a Dreadball player yet but Dreadball Extrem could be py entree point. This box set looks amazingly good. Having played a few Mantic games I’m sure it’s going to be fast and a load of fun.
Ronnie’s passion for what he does is so communicative.
Had a look at dread ball extreme at the mantic open day yesterday, looks great
Always a great show
One follow up point – please, please can you mention ‘yes its boring but..’ safety using airbrushes – you guys really should have a mask. Airborne paint is nasty, gets in the lungs and can cause serious problems. Lecture over…
Welcome to Riverside! Good to see the need to upgrade and stepping out ‘in faith’ so to speak.
Its great to see Ronnie has not lost any enthusiasm, or drive to make great products.
The way he and Mantic Games engage with us, the community, sets the bench mark IMO.
Great show as always guys.
tempted to play dreadball now ive seen the prisoner team
The forces of nature may just tempt me into playing Kings of war
@ Ronnie – Just shut up and take my money.
Dreadball, the only mantic game I don’t play. never really been into the sports games. However am liking the mantic digital upcoming ideas..
Like the idea of a visit to the home of BOW and playing some games with like minded people in a friendly environment so would definitely be up for a potential BoW personal “weekender”. Not really into the tournament side of things (currently) as dont play as much as I’d like but would definitely be interested in playing the games i am interested in with people who know what they are doing and can pass on hints/tips and their experience etc.
Also can’t wait for Dungeon Saga!
At my local games club (Chesterfield Realms Of War) we ran a tournament a couple of months ago for the clubs 1st birthday. We had 5 gaming systems which are either not currently played or not widely played within the club. The idea being it would give the members a chance to try out some games they had never had the opportunity to play. We had a little help from some great guys from Warlord Games, Mantic Games and Chesterfield Open Gaming Society(COGS). The members who attended were split up into 5 groups and throughout the day were moved between the 5 different games and gained points on how well they had done in each game. The 5 games we had people spending around an hour per game were X-Wing, Mars Attacks, Black Powder, Judge Dread and In Her Majesty’s Name. Everyone who attended the day enjoyed it so much we have decided to do the same style of event again every 6 months or so but just changing up the games.
Just to throw it out there. I’m totally for calling up to play whatever games are going. I have a nice bit of stuff myself and am willing to participate. So whatever time it’s on, you can count me in.
Mantic want a game with money, violence and Thuggery.
Start a kickstarter around The Harrods Sale
Extreme looks cool, love my deadzone
I’m glad mantic are doing so well, they just seem like such a bunch of likable chaps.
Another good weekender, always good to see Ronnie.
I must admit that the Extreme/Season 4,5,6 difference had eluded me during the kickstarter. It make a lot more sense now that Ronnie has explained it. Thanks.
After watching this went straight and pledged on Kings Of War kickstarter, great stuff!!
Sounds good sign me up.
Great bit of entertainment whilst painting
Ok… So now that I’ve seen both the Weekener and the XLBS version, I’m back here to leave a comment (because that’s where we can win a prize, isn’t it). 😉
I really like the way Mantic is approching the digital part of our hobby. There’s revolution to be had there and I think they’re on the right path. Keep it up, guys!
loving the look of Dreadball Xtreme – cant wait to get my mits on a copy of this game……is there a release date for it yet???
I’m well up for the games week. The Pathfinder Society would be up for it as well!
Could you also have event only tickets please, for those of us who live close by. 🙂
*games weekend rather…
Mantic pushing Fantasy while GW seem to be downsizing their fAntasy. A Smart move!
I love kings of war and dread ball those are fun games
I have to get into Dreadball.
I already have the hd stencils, and I’ve pledged on the hs ones. I think they’ll complement each other well.
Hs will be good for vehicle markings — they were very often painted with stencils anyway…
Ronnie is awesome
Im wating for my extreme pledge to com in. Love the direction mantic is taking with the digital stuff
Love the sound of what is planned for DZ’s future! 🙂
loving the weekenders guys
@thehermit it will be the best few pounds/dollars/etc you ever spent!
kings of war sound great, just awaiting payday 🙂
Great weekender. Started watching yesterday, then wrapped up this morning, about to dive into XLBS. Awesome to have Ronnie from Mantic. You can really tell that there are a lot of wild ideas going through that man’s head.
I really like the look and feel of Dreadball Extreme. The idea of no rules and a fast paced sport seems fun…in real life as much as on the board. 🙂
Be good to have Flames of War Tournaments, based on campaigns.
I will keep a look out for the Warpath rules. Have a lot of 40k minis gathering dust on the shelves…
Love the idea of the “breaking news” live streams.
Delighted to see more Dreadball on the way. I played in Mantic’s open day tournament yesterday and had an absolute blast!
On the subject of tournaments, I’d love to play in a BoW event. Depending on the game, date, etc. of course, but very interested.
I can’t express how much it pleases me to see sweet looking copies of HeroQuest and Space Crusade on the shelf behind Warren’s shoulder there, taking their rightful places as lords of the gaming hobby!!! 😀
Loved the show, great incite into the stencils too thanks.
Great show
I love seeing Ronnie as we always learn more than he intended 🙂 The Ronnie Rant
Not to mention I had almost forgotten about the kickstarter, thanks for the save.
The stencils were really good as well. An all around good show.
Yeah – mr.Ronnie rules again, I like the wy he talks – he talks about something he really loves, thats why I like all Mantic stuff. DB extreme looks awesome – need it desperately in my collection.
Congrats on the new studio space, it looks great.
Nice idea for hosting gaming weekends, it would be cool if game manufactures could be in attendance for providing advice and just integrating with the community.
I’d be more tempted to join for a ‘gaming bootcamp’ than for a tournament. Perhaps the Saturday can be used for some demo games, while on Sunday the participants can play a kind of exhibition match trying the newly learnt game. Perhaps you could even figure out a ranking system to do some small prize/giveaway at the end of the weekend.
One thing I’m wondering about is if there will then be demo gangs/armies available for all participants. If it’s a game I don’t know yet it’s also likely I don’t have the models yet.
Some games on my wishlist:
Dropzone Commander
Carnivale (once the update is out)
Flames of War
…EXTREMOOOOO!!!!…… 😀
Like the idea of game learning weekends, maybe with tactics workshops and try a different team for more experienced players, and a mini campaign or mega-battle on the Sunday. Good luck in the new studio!
Good news that you have the studio up and running.
Would like the idea of coming over to learn a new game, see if I like it before buying into it.
Can’t wait to see you guys play extreme.
I’m so looking foward to getting a load of the new Dreadball teams. Love the first three seasons. But how do I choose which way to play? Original, Xtreme or Ultimate? Ahhh, the choice.
Cant wait for Warpath and DZ – an about game day – I would definitely go for tournament. I t would be worth every penny and for demo games we have Salute 😀 or mantic days!
I would love a weekend or week gaming with you guys intro or normal gaming or masterclass…. take experienced players and try teaching them something new. Ohh ohh ohh you could let John give Tank lectures, maybe a tank/WWII symposium?
the kow ks stuff all looks amazing
Love dreadball, can’t wait for dreadball extreme…
I love the idea of a gaming weekend – I’ve never been to Ireland (north or south), so it would be a perfect excuse. Nothing against tournaments, but suspect I’d prefer to come to a less formal ‘intro’ weekend as I’d feel less pressure to get anything organised prior to coming.
That said, it might be a good idea to make these intro weekends a bit varied, if you can. So not just a day and a half of learning to play a game, but learning the rules, fluff/background seminars, painting tips, and ‘tournament style’ games. Perhaps split the day into slots so you can switch things around if you want.
One reason I suggest this is that it’s quite likely that some people who are interested in a game enough to fly to Ireland to play it will already know something about it. Some might want to bring their own miniatures, others will want to use whatever is provided. If you could come along and spend a whole day learning/playing, that would be great. But if you’ve already read the rules but just not had anyone to play with, you may want to skip one of the teaching sessions and go a painting tips session instead You might get players who know the rules, and so don’t need to learn, but who want to join in a fun, lighthearted day because they don’t get much chance to meet likeminded gamers, so having a variety of activities to participate in would make the whole day/weekend more fun.
Plus, people who want to bring a friend, partner, child, parent, etc. may welcome the opportunity to split up and concentrate on different parts of the hobby while still being in the same place. So a parent could go to a seminar on what the game is about while the child is playing their first game.
I liked the sound of a themed game weekend then I liked the sound of a bunch of us learnng a new game. Throw in some archery and it will be my perfect away weekend.
Great show guys, love Ronnies enthusiasm. Dreadball Extreme looks great.
Dreadball Xtreme looks amazing
More dreadful is never a bad thing 🙂
Not to mention as Deadzone develops it becomes the basis for the Warpath reboot…..Genius.
A copy of Dreadball would be cool.
Great show as usual guys
the stencils look really interesting, I’d be interested to try them out (trick being once I have an airbrush!)
Yes, more Dreadball, Warpath, Deadzone Fun!
Looking forward to getting my xtreme in a few weeks.
Excellent episode, Ronnie’s enthusiasm is infectious.
A goldmine issue this one. Can’t be anything else with Ronnie on the set.
ronnie is a legend!! love mantic.
The folk at mantic really are busy people aren’t they? Non stop shinies!
Good God! When all you lads head over to the pub after the show, how the heck does anyone get a word in edgeways with Warren and Ronnie there!!!!
I’ll put in a request for a combo Batman tournament & intro weekend. The former for those who already play, the latter for those who are interested in trying it out.
I love listening to how Ronnie talks. Dreadball seems like a lot of fun!
i’ll be waiting
always love the chats with ronnie. ,Mantic seems to be building quite a little empire.
Love the new KoW stuff and excited about the ideas proposed for Warpath.
I have always been a little hesitant to try Dredball, but this preview of Extreme looks great. Thanks for the preview!
Congrats on the new studio!
I really like the idea of a beasts of war gaming event. I would probably like one where there were a few games to try out rather than a tournament setup. But would be interested regardless.
Ronnie is great, never trust him with a secret though…
great show, like the new stuff from mantic. dreadball xtreme looks fun!
Just got in on the Kings of War KS. Abyssal concepts look good, looking forward to minis!
Great show, glad to hear about what Mantic Games plans for their games.
Ta for the free read
Mantic has been releasing one hit after another. They have some great games and awesome looking minis. I love Deadzone and Dreadball looks like a ton of fun.
Keep up the good work.
I’m way in on the Dungeon Saga KS, and I’m waiting for the KoW2 pledge manager to finalize my backing there!
Like the idea of weekend gaming pack, but it will be expensive to fly from Spain to Belfast!
Love the idea of dreadball extreme, and ready to play teams out of the box!
Ronnie is always hilarious 🙂
Great interview. Sounds like they have so many irons in the fire that they can’t do everything they want to do.
Having never played Kings of War before I decided to hop over to Youtube and watch some gameplay to see if it’s worth getting in on the kickstarter. The first video that came up is the Beasts of War Kings of War Week 2013… where Warren is wearing the same T-shirt as in this episode!!! Does anyone else wear a specific T-shirt depending on the game they’re playing?
I would love to come to a meet-up, tournament, crazy-thing-to-learn-new-games. Of course it would depend a lot on the price, cuz I would be flying in from Germany. Maybe an option to arrive on friday evening would be interesting for some people, so you can start fresh on saturday and not already have hours of traveling in your bones when the first game starts.
Awsome show, like the new studios!
Always a pleasure to have Ronnie on the show. Love the enthusiasm he brings to any topic. I would say he’s like a kid in a toy store, but I guess he is the kid who owns the toy store!
Good to see BoW growing with a new studio.
Dreadball could be interesting.
Kings of War project for 2015 then.. Salamanders hopefully! Always get excited by Dreadball, can’t wait for extreme.
Has anyone ever put Ronnie and Carlos in a room together… That would be a huge load of awesomeness right there.
Mini break gaming in Ireland…. As long as the pies are good I’m there (subject to actual approval by the wife. Terms and conditions may apply)
.
Great show and what a prize
Great show again!
I would love to go visit Ireland, anyone got some spare cash laying around?
I can’t wait until the kickstarter opens for DS.
Really like the look of Dreadball extreme. Can’t wait to play it
Lets be honest about dread ball…it is scifi blood bowl. However, unlike blood bowl, dread ball is supported by the company who makes it, it has great rules, and some of the only good looking models that mantic makes. Thus, I am stuck if I should invest in it or not. I like the theme of blood bowl better, but dread ball is a better game.
@willmill5 sounds to me like you’ve answered your own question: you like the rules (i.e. the game), you like the miniatures (doesn’t matter if you hate everything else Mantic do, if you don’t need them), and it’s a game that is supported both by the maker and by the community.
I haven’t tried Dread Ball myself, and given how much other stuff I’ve got sitting on my shelf, that’s probably a good thing, but I’m all for people getting in to good games!
On a sort of tangent, you may be interested in this article by Jake Thornton explain why although there are obvious comparisons with Bloodbowl, it’s not just a re-skinning: http://quirkworthy.com/2012/08/27/dreadball-and-the-elephant-in-the-room/
loving the show guys
I’m a fan of Dreadball, we were able to start our first league not long ago.
btw, anyone know when and where will the rules to use the season 1-3 teams and MVP to use with extreme? Extreme rule book, season 4 book? are they the same?
I really think the sculpts and production qui linty of mantic just gets better and better with everything they do I love kings of war and dreadball yet to have a go at dead zone really excited for the future of this company.
Geez, Ronnie is an super excited individual!
Another super episode. Thank you.
xtreme sounds rather fun I think.
Mantic make some of the best games rules for miniatures on the market. Dreadball was and is super fun and DBX looks like it will be packed full of even more cool stuff!
Great show and always good to see Ronnie and his awesome company setting the path for the future.
Dreadball looks a fascinating game. Our gaming group is really into Blood Bowl still, so I wonder if this one will edge in at some point.
Definitely up for a gaming weekend. Be good to get involved with something more about fun and gaming rather than full on hardcore tourney play. Count me in.
Loving the idea of the gaming weekends
