Spellcrow already has an astounding range of fantasy figures in 10 mm but now they have a set of rules to go with them in Argatoria: Great battles in the barbarian world. It has been available in Polish for a while now but the English PDF has just been released and with it comes the opportunity to play out massed battles in a very different fantasy world.

Argatoria Spellcrow

Dirandis Clash With Sorgax // Argatoria

The game is launching with four factions. Two human factions, the Dirandis and Vaendral tribes, and two lizardman factions, the Sorgax and Arox tribes. There are mentions of other tribes and potential races in the backstory to come further down the line, such as the Halflings from Xotlutuatec, Fauns from Agalloch Forest and Wild Elves from Vonlorn.

Argatoria Arox

A nice touch that the folks over at Spellcrow have added is a downloadable fourteen-page brochure that gives you a flavour for the game and the world it is set in. It begins with some lore for the world before providing a potted history of the four tribes in the rules. Then moves on to the game stats and mechanics before explaining how combat works and finishes off with a few pages on how you build and paint your miniatures. It's the sort of getting started guide that you would often see in gaming stores in the past and I think it does an excellent job of giving people a grounding in what they can expect from Argatoria.

They've also been showing off some upcoming releases and my favourite has to be the Desauros, who doesn't love some dinosaurs with sacrificial altars strapped to them? I'm hoping for the barbarians wild elephantons next for some epic clashes in the middle of the tabletop. I love that even though Argatoria is connected to Umbra Turis, which is more traditional fantasy fare, they have decided to go with a subcontinent and these very different races to launch the game. It makes it stand out when building their own world rather than treading a worn path others have already made.

Also the PDF is only 2 euro! I should really have lead with that, if you're interested you should grab it, it's literally pocket money prices for a 64 page rule book. Got to be worth a punt at that price, hasn't it?

Are you a Sorgax or more of an Arox?
