Hobday & Hicks have been showing off all sorts of new 28mm Fantasy miniatures joining their upcoming range. The Elves are taking centre stage with a brand-new hero miniature from Paul Hicks gracing social media.

The sculpt, based on the artwork and concepts by Peter Dennis, looks awesome. I love the defiant look on his face and the addition of the big cloak alongside the scale armour. The axe is also a great choice of weapon that sets him apart from the classic idea of Elves using spears and delicate swords. As mentioned when we first saw this range, there is something Second Age and Tolkienesque about the designs which is very captivating.

The latest preview also came with a bit of lore!

"Raised amidst the ancient splendour of elven architecture, they are schooled in swordsmanship and strategy alongside etiquette and the arcane arts. Their lineage is as old as the trees, and they carry the weight of this legacy on their slender shoulders. Yet, they are not simply gilded ornaments. When darkness threatens their kin, they don gleaming armour, their laughter turning to war cries as the elven nobility go to war."

It's neat that we're seeing snippets of the world-building that is going into this Fantasy range as well as the miniatures. I could see myself picking up possibly far too many of these Elves. Talking of far too many Elves, Hobday & Hicks also showed off some Spearmen.

They continue with that look of noble soldiers with the mixture of the coats and the scale armour underneath. The helmet design is particularly nice and I like that it isn't the same conical look that you'd get with the likes of Warhammer. You might also remember the awesome Archers that we saw last year.

This is looking like a superb range and with some great Humans, Orcs and now Elves on the cards, I could see this being a particularly successful project when they launch it. Tied to The Barons' War rules that Hobday has crafted over the last few years, the game has a good mechanical basis too. I imagine that a lot of folks will also be using these miniatures for some SAGA: Age Of Magic and Oathmark too.

What do you make of the new Elves we've seen previewed by Hobday & Hicks?
