Two new personalities have been added to Empress Miniatures' English Civil War collection. You are going to be able to snap up two characters and in many ways friends who fought on either side of the conflict.

Hopton #1 - Empress Miniatures

Hopton // Empress Miniatures

On the one side of the conflict, you have Hopton. Sir Ralph Hopton was commander of the Royalist armies that fought in South Wales and into the West Country.

Hopton #2 - Empress Miniatures

Hopton // Empress Miniatures

He is well known for his battles against his friend Sir William Waller (below) whom he corresponded with during the war. He was the man who was said to have coined the phrase about the English Civil War, "This war without an enemy".

Waller #1 - Empress Miniatures

Waller // Empress Miniatures

Sir William Waller was a veteran of the Thirty Years War and commanded the Southern Parliamentarian armies. He was known to be quite the tactician and used the likes of night attacks against his opponents. He was also meant to be quite unlucky! You can find out more about the pair over on their Wiki pages - Sir Ralph Hopton and Sir William Waller.

Waller #2 - Empress Miniatures

Waller // Empress Miniatures

This is why I quite like the English Civil War as a period for wargaming. There are no cut-and-dry sides and no good or evil combatants. In many cases, families were split right down the middle and ended up fighting against their kin even if they didn't want to. It makes for fascinating stories, both real and fictional.

Could you be tempted to pick up these miniatures from Empress?
