River Horse Games have announced that they are releasing their two latest board games to coincide with GenCon this weekend.

Pacific Rim Extinction

First, the giant Kaiju and Jaeger of Pacific Rim are ready to clash on the tabletop in the Pacific Rim: Extinction Miniatures Game.

This much-anticipated game comes with pre-painted, pre-assembled miniatures, letting players recreate the titanic battles of the movies right out of the box.

Alongside the Core Set, River Horse are releasing a number of expansions to let you bring in more of the massive combatants from the films, such as Saber Athena, or Hakuja.

Being a big fan of the films, and Del Toro's work in general, this is a game I really want to give a go. The battle between mechs and kaiju appeals to the big kid in me, something only enhanced by the pre-painted models.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay

Looking down from the lofty heights of massive mechs, we find the strategic gameplay of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.

In this game, players battle for control of Panem, as the Resistance goes up against the ruling forces of the Capitol.

This is a game that, upon its release, some of us were rather confused by as, given the focus of the Hunger Games franchise, a faction focused strategy game seemed an odd direction to choose. However, the rules themselves do look promising and all the game pieces carry over the distinctive style of this post-apocalyptic setting.

Both of these will be seeing release this weekend, so if you've been looking forward to playing out these franchises on the table  here is your chance.

Do you want to battle kaiju or save Panem?
