The Miniatures Apprentice is a new endeavour set up by Martyn Wood since leaving university where he has taken his love of 3D printing and working within that medium to bring miniatures to the tabletop. His first project is a 28mm scale Mantis Battlesuit which comes in both a Walking and Flying pose...

Mantis Battlesuits

Mantis Battlesuit Flying & Standing

This is certainly looking very impressive and it has been explained to us that using the CAD technology he was able to make some really interesting components that involved a lot of ball joints and modular components allowing you to pose and customise it with various additions as you can see above.

Mantis Battlesuit With Alternate Head

Here is one such addition with the use of an alternate head and crest which sits in nicely behind the helmet to give it a more commanding look. I have no idea what kind of game system you'd use this for but it could well stand in as an interesting take on an Eldar Weapons Platform for Warhammer 40,000.

Dragon

Another project he has worked on is this rather impressive looking Dragon which certainly shows off the skill that he has when it comes to making interesting models and designs. I can't wait to see what else he does and where he goes next in terms of both Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

As it stands the Mantis is only available in metal but there will be a resin version coming soon.

What do you think?
