Bandai Shows Off Their Awesome Star Wars Line-Up!
September 29, 2014 by brennon
Bandai are pulling out all the stops for Star Wars as a recent event showed. Hobby Link grabbed a whole bunch of rather ace images of the upcoming range that features X-Wings, TIE Fighters, Darth Vader, Star Destroyers and even Droids! And yes, these are kits!
The first thing to take a look at are some of the X-Wing in 1/72 scale. Some of them even come with little lights in the engines and such which can be switched on or off at the bases. You can see an example of that above with the Starfighter and it's engines.
On the side of the enemies they have TIE Fighters and TIE Advanced alongside things like this massive Star Destroyer. This is in 1/700 scale and understandably is quite the impressive kit. It should be reinforced once again that these are actually kits so you'll be sitting down for quite a while when it comes to putting them together. Imagine the project time on the Star Destroyer!
One of the cool diorama pieces that you can also work towards is this one showing the trench run at the end of A New Hope. It even includes (look closely to the left of the image) the bomb going into that rather awkward design fault with the Death Star. Quite the monumental moment.
As well as the actual vehicles we have a few shots of what's coming in terms of the figure pack kits too. Darth Vader is looking very dominating indeed and each of them is pose-able too if you I'm reading it right. I like the basic Storm Troopers too although I do still think the Clone Troopers looked 'cooler'.
Last but not least how about you shake things up with a different take on Darth Vader? This is their Samurai Darth Vader coming out towards the end of the year and gives you a Japanese themed version of the Sith Lord complete with archaic armour and a very cool lightsabre katana.
What do you think of this line-up for Star Wars?
That Star Destroyer looks impressive while those other ships also look really good. That Samurai Darth Vader is fitting considering how much Darth Vader already looked like samurai.
As a massive Star Wars fan, I approve. If Bandai ever find themselves in need of a left arm, I’d sell mine for a 1/48 Republic Gunship and a couple of 1/48 ground vehicles. (1/50 or 1/56 would be better but it’s not really a scale that gets used much outside of this hobby)
That star destroyer is indeed epic. Of course I would have to toss the dining room table to make room for it, but it would be worth it. The engine glow in the X-Wing is another fantastic touch.
Play X-Wing against that Star Destroyer… 🙂

Lose the table – the Star Destroyer is big enough to use as the table 🙂
Star Wars leaves me a bit cold (my nerd credentials lie elsewhere ;P) but its fun to see Bandai’s take on such a beloved franchise and I hope they branch out to an even wider spectrum of models in the future.
Can’t beat a bit of Gundam model goodness to blow out the winter blues 🙂
All the ships look brilliant.
They all look ace, but am I the only one that wish companies would not keep bringing out products, slapping a Star Wars/Batman/whatever label on them even if they’re nothing remotely to do with the original movie/product just to sell more goods? Release a Sci-Fi Samurai, cool. Give him a ‘Light Sword’ cool. Don’t call him a Sith or a part of the Star Wars Universe, because he/she/it’s not and slapping a SW tag on it seems like a cheap way getting money out of people-They’ll be saying it’s Ltd Ed next. Bring out the model, let people decide if… Read more »
Most things Star Wars I pass on due to the over marketed model lines that already exist… But that Star Destroyer is impressive. I like that its real big.
