The new 2015 Core Set for Magic the Gathering is fast approaching and a number of awesome cards have appeared. However, they pale in comparison to the might of the new Planeswalker cards which will be joining the duels.

So far, six Planeswalkers have been revealed. Two of these are simple reprints of, admittedly very powerful, previous releases.

Chandra Pyromaster

Liliana Vess

Both of these are excellent cards so it is good to see them returning, especially Liliana with whom I have created some good combos in the past.

Aside from these two, there are four new versions of classic Planeswalkers for us all to deal with, including these three.

Ajani Steadfast

Jace the Living Guildpact

Nissa Worldwaker

Jace is as useful as ever, although perhaps not as good as some of his previous iterations. The one to watch out for most, in my opinion, is Nissa. Her abilities allow you to get a solid defensive line quickly, as well as providing you with great versatility in terms of mana. Definitely a dangerous presence on the field, especially in the game's early stages.

Pride of place though has to go to the new version of Garruk, named Garruk Apex Predator.

Garruk Apex Predator

The plot behind this latest core set focuses upon Garruk. Having been corrupted by Liliana Vess, he has been hunting her across the planes of existence. However, the corruption is beginning to take greater hold and now the mighty hunter has begun to view Planeswalkers as the greatest quarry of all.

With his four abilities, this latest Garruk has a ton of tactical versatility. You can build him up by either creating a solid defensive line of Deathtouch, or you can outright destroy any other Planeswalkers on the field! Add to that a bit of life gain and a the ability to subject an opponent to massive +5/+5 creatures with trample and you get an exceedingly useful card.

Will any of these be appearing in your decks? How might you deal with them should you find yourself facing any of them?
