Victoria Miniatures continue to build on their collection of alternative options for use in the grimdark future. This week saw them release a new pack of Torsos to use alongside their Penal Guard. Even the "good guys" aren't opposed to making their prisoners into walking bombs.

The set gives you a selection of Bomb Torsos where grenades and such have been strapped on. As well as that, you've got the restraints and such which keep these maniacs charging forward under the watchful eye of a Commissar or two.

I had flirted with the idea of doing a rag-tag band of Penal Guard back when I played Warhammer 40,000. I liked the idea of doing a crew of pretty much expendable infantry who were sent to the front lines and with the express focus of getting them killed. Amongst their number, I'd then have had a Commissar plus perhaps a few prisoners who had managed to survive against the odds and therefore been raised up to a higher status.

I think bits and pieces like this feed into the idea of the grimdark future being packed with dark comedy. It certainly plays into the idea that there is plenty of grey morality when it comes to Warhammer 40,000 and even the Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum isn't above some rather terrifying means of disposing of their enemies.

Are you tempted by these for your army of the far future?
