Victrix Miniatures has been showcasing the final look at their renders for the upcoming 28mm Dark Age Rus that you can drop into your Historical wargames.

The Rus were made up of warriors of Scandinavian origin who settled in what would now be Ukraine or Russia. They mixed with the Slavic population and would begin to become a fearsome fighting force in the region. This set comes with a whole bunch of options for making both armoured and unarmoured versions of these warriors armed with spears, swords, axes and all manner of other weapons. As with a Victrix kit, they also get a decent amount of different accessories to play with.

The Rus would have battled against a lot of different nations over their time, scrapping with the likes of the Avars, Pechenegs and Bulgars plus the Byzantine Empire. According to Victrix, their tactics made them very good at stopping the thundering Byzantine cavalry attacks on the battlefield.

The sets look great and perfect for those looking to play out the Dark Age battles happening over in what is now Eastern Europe. As well as being good for Rus, you could use these to represent all sorts of Slavic warriors from the period. You can also mix and match these with the Dacian set according to Victrix to make some of the unique tribes.

Victrix also mentioned how this set would be great for using with your Byzantine armies to make the famous (or infamous) Varangians. The set is full of dynamic and interesting sculpts. If you play games like SAGA where the wargaming is all about the story and the weaving of mighty tales, this seems like the perfect set for creating interesting characters.

With all of these miniatures now finished on the digital front, it shouldn't be long before these get released for use on the tabletop. Whichever flavour of Rus you're seeking to bring to the tabletop, this warband should cover all the bases.
