About the Project
Lately, I've been running war games every weekend with members of the community via web conference. Players log on and play wargames with each other in real time, regardless of location, and we usually have at least a couple spectators as well. Many times it’s been Darkstar, but we’re also running wargames in Panzer Leader, Arab-Israeli Wars, and now Valor & Victory.
BoW/OTT community members @brucelea, @damon, @davehawes, and @rasmus have taken the plunge, leading battalions across thousands of meters of desert, starfleets in pitched battles across the heavens, or vicious firefights in the jungles of Vietnam, all without leaving the comfort of their home.
Hard-core, old-school command-tactical wargames can now be run (complete with spectators and recordings) in real time, with BOTH PLAYERS moving pieces across THE SAME virtual game board, thus maintaining player agency, speedy and instant results (no play by e-mail), interwoven turn sequences, any questions / feedback instantly received and addressed, and with the game being virtually recorded as it goes, a ready-made battle report can actually be created as we go.
All of this without the players having to install any new software on their computer, on any platform (PC or Mac). All that's needed is to agree on a time, a handful of dice, and a bellyful of courage!
Every weekend can now be a boot camp! All without costing me thousands of dollars in airfare, too!

Battle of Obong-ni Ridge - 15mm Korean War Game Video
Battle of Obong-ni (15mm Korean War Game)
Join us for another playthrough of Mark Ritchie’s “Tactical Command” in 15mm. This time we’re looking at the Battle of Obong-ni Ridge, part of the Naktong River campaign along the Pusan Perimeter, fought during the opening months of the Korean War in August, 1950.
In this engagement, heavily-outnumbered elements of 5th Marines and 24th US Infantry clashed with 16th Regiment and 109th Tank Battalion (4th NKPA Infantry Division). Can heavier Marine armor and US Army artillery tip the scales against the human waves and massed tanks of the North Koreans?
Assault on Lead Mountain - the Campaign Begins
Good afternoon – Here is the video replay from last night’s stream, where we begin a new assault on a new lead mountain!
I don’t normally have a “lead mountain” or “pile of shame” . . . But I have one now! The campaign begins!
Battle of the Bulge (Celles) - Battlegroup 15mm Ubergame
Recently I had the privilege of running a MASSIVE game of Battlegroup (IronFirst Publishing / PSC) in 15mm, recreating part of the Battle of Celles – part of the Battle of the Bulge. The scenario grew so large we admittedly had to ditch a few of the rules mechanics, but the game was great fun nonetheless!
This is one of the few times you can “honestly” put British and Americans shoulder-to-shoulder on a gaming table, where we saw elements of British 29th Armoured Brigade and Combat Command “B” of 2nd US Armored (“Hell on Wheels”) Division team up against the extreme western limit of the German Ardennes advance, spearheaded by units of the elite but exhausted 2nd Panzer Division
Beat the Hangover (New Years Day Stream Replay)
Here is the replay from Sunday’s “Beat the Hangover” stream on the Sitrep Podcast.
We’re playing the second half of the Battle of the Bulge in SSI’s “Allied General,” where the Allies have absorbed the shock of the “Wacht am Rhein” Ardennes Offensive and are now pushing the Germans back toward the Rhine.
The catch … we’re playing the Germans to see if we can restore our momentum and regain the initiative (yeah, right)
Five-Player Battlegroup Uber-game (P1)
I got to run an EPIC 5-player ubergame of Battlegroup at South Florida Miniature Gaming Club Saturday.
* Celles, Belgium – 25 December 1944
* Germans – 2nd Panzer Division (Pz Rgt 3, PzGr Rgt 304 – Kampfgruppe “Böhm”)
* US – Combat Command “B” (66th Armored Rgt, 2nd “Hell on Wheels” Armored Div)
* UK – 29th Armoured Brigade (11th Armoured Division)
Huge thanks to the SMG club and Das Krieg Haus for hosting the game! Congrats to Mark, John, Steve, Ron, and Tom on a great game!
