Dawn of War 2 Fans Take Note – Retribution Announced
August 18, 2010 by lloyd
THQ have been hard at work on a secound exspansion to Dawn of War 2 a total kick ass game by the way. If your into RTS and 40K then shame on you if you haven't gone out and got this game.
Anyways the exspansion is called Retribution and THQ have a new video up showing it off, I can't wait waaagh!!!
Here's what they had to say: "The second stand alone expansion for Dawn of War II, Retribution is set ten years after the events of Chaos Rising and features the first multiple-race single player campaign in the Dawn of War II series! The Ork campaign is being shown for the first time at gamescom this week."

B.O.W and this game are wholly responsible for me coming back to the genre.
😉
That’s interesting because that game and B.O.W are resposible for me getting into it in the first place.
Exactly the same for me, but also the ultramarines movie to helped
Watch Angel gate: that’s the multiplayer version, and there are GUARDSMEN.
Suck that, Tau.
“Success is measured in blood; yours or your enemy´s.”
Hell, to, the yes.
UUHHHHHHH!! Shiny!
So what does it introduce?
I do hope you all noticed the Inquisitorial “I” in Retribution. So does that mean Grey Knights, Deathwatch, or some other force from the Ordos?
NOOOOOOO
For sure I noticed. Inquisition rules^^
Personally i think the casual heresy of chapter master angelus then was funny “They say the emperor protects tell that to the orks” if there was an inquisitor near by there would be such a big inquisition clamp down it would make him wish the orks got him sooner, i have no idea what will be coming out in this DOW i didnt even know there was another expansion coming out i kinda see the DOW set now as flogging a dead horse even more so with dark millennium and space marine just around the corner
I’ve not really felt like getting DoW2 at all, marines just don’t do much for me.
This is more tempting because of the Ork campaign so if I see it on a cheap deal I might get it…I’d still love to have a Tyranid Campaign though, even if their background does seem to slowly be being changed by GW.
I just hope that this more like Chaos rising than vanilla DOW2 and that they have a good storyline and not the same levels repeated over and over with different bosses. I also hope that they do something to improve multiplayer, i hardly know anyone that plays DOW2 anymore they all seemed to have gone back to dawn of war 1
I was expecting this expantion to be more Blood Raven vs. Blood Raven. Not Blood Raven vs. Orks. But it will be cool to see how the Inquisition fits into the game.
Another mission pack… Hell, why does Relic always do that?? Why can’t they just give us a complete game and then give just one big expansion? Like back in the old days – Starcraft (a complete great game) and Brood War (just one, very big and legit expansion). Instead they suck our money every few months by giving us only some small additional stuff. I hate it. This is why I only recently bought Company of Heroes (with all expansions) and still haven’t bought DoW2. I will buy it when they finally release everything, cause with such a policy I just feel like a victim of a theft (though it’s not as bad as the DLCs for CoD:MW2, I’ll give them that).
Oh I hope you get to play a mini campaign as an Ork freeboota…. Need more pirates!
You do lead by the Ork Kaptain Bluddflagg *points at avatar*.
Dude.. DoW2 really sucked… i hope this is better than the last expansion… anyways.. im not to exited… i hoped they would put some effort in developing a DoW3 with actual good gameplay…
Yeah. Dawn of War 1 is a total kick ass game. DoW2 is nothing special (well, those who like very simple gameplay are happy) its simplicity is stunning and boring.
Thank God there’s Medieval2TW and its mods like Call of Warhammer.
You’re having a laugh. Simple? DoW2 is one of the hardest RTS/RTT games around to play well.
i couldn’t agree with you more ronin but despite dow 2 but utter gob*****, Chaos rising was pretty good and had a good story. I do wish though that relic would finish storylines! i am still wait to find out the conculsion of dawn of war 1, when the heck is the reckoning happening between the deamon and gaberial! Also will this next exp conclude the story from chaos rising or will it be like winter assault completely different?
Pirate Orks! WAAAAAAARRRGH!!!……..me hearty!
I DEMAND TAU.
Why?
Battlesuits would be epic in DoW2..
Can´t wait to play it!!!!
Such an excellent new!
I agree DOW II lacked single player campaign action, don’t get me wrong I like it, especially for the multi player side, but at least DOW gave you the option of playing single player campaigns from more than just the space marine factions, DOW II, Chaos Rising really wasn’t much more than you play a the Blood Ravens but choose to remain loyal to the Emperor or succumb to Chaos, I find that most of the time I go back to DOW just to play the other races/factions, at last THQ is giving the people what they want ;).
Just an update from IGN in regards to the ork campaign
Just like the original Dawn of War franchise, Relic’s awesome real-time strategy game, Dawn of War II, is getting the expansion treatment. The first was Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising, which continued the Space Marine campaign, and the second is the new Ork campaign in Dawn of War II: Retribution. This expansion was just announced at this year’s Gamescom, and we got a chance to be among the first to see it in action.
DoW II: Retribution is a standalone expansion just like the last one, only this time you won’t be playing as the Space Marines. This campaign revolves around a group of Ork Space Pirates, led by the eccentric Captain Bluddflagg. Bluddflagg leads around a group of hero units (comprised of a stealth hero, an aggressive jetpack wearing hero, and a heavy weapons hero), as well as a horde of lesser Ork units.
Retribution, just like the previous DoW II games, revolves around a few heroes, but it differs greatly in the amount of units you’ll control overall. Previous campaigns put you in control of a few hero units who had lesser units attached to them, while Retribution gives you control of four solo heroes as well as a growing horde of Orks. As you capture points in the missions you’ll unlock resources; these resources can then be used to call in additional units at specific spots on the map. But don’t get intimidated by the thought of having more units to deal with, Relic’s intent was not to make the player feel overwhelmed, or to at all insinuate the formula of very few units was a failure in the old games, they simply didn’t feel it worked well for Orks. You see, Orks aren’t like Space Marines; they don’t care about one another, they’re not nearly as powerful, and they are known to win battles by overwhelming their opponents with bodies and brute force rather than tactics. If the Orks can’t kill you with swords they’ll gladly drown you in their own blood.
Another benefit Relic feels comes from Retribution’s new unit building system is the ability to change up your tactics mid battle. In the Space Marine campaigns it wasn’t uncommon to select the wrong units before a mission started, having to use them or simply restart a mission when you realized you didn’t bring the best units possible. With the ability to call in additional troops mid-battle, on the other hand, you can adjust tactics at several points in the mission, giving yourself specialized vehicles, anti-armor or anti-infantry units should the situation arise where they’re needed.
A huge appeal of the previous Dawn of War II campaigns were their RPG elements, and these return in Retribution with some slight, but significant, changes. As you play through missions your hero characters will gain experience and levels. Previously you then spent the points you earned as you leveled up to work towards ability unlocks, but in Retribution you get to unlock an ability every time you level. You still get to pick the powers you want, meaning that you can still customize your heroes to better suit your play style, but leveling up is a little more exciting since it always has an immediate reward.
Loot, the main driving force for so many players’ passion to grind missions, returns as well, only this time you get even more options. You still find loot randomly in missions, and obtain it from killing particular enemies, but you get to choose the piece of gear you receive at the end of each mission now. Previous DoW II campaigns gave you a specific reward at the end of a mission, but now players can pick one of three items, allowing them to further customize their heroes to suit the way they play.
Dawn of War II: Retribution is everything I’d expect from an expansion — meaning it only makes small changes to the game’s core mechanics — and fans of the Warhammer 40k universe will doubtless be excited to get to jump in the boots of a silly Ork army. I already like the way the Orks invoke many themes that run counter to the Space Marines (like shoddy technology, bad attitudes, and no concern for their fellow warrior), and this is all based off only a few minutes of a demo. I can’t wait to see the game again, as something tells me we’ve only just scratched the surface of what this expansion has to offer.
Defintely liking the sound of the ork campaign and glad to see some of the changes e.g. levelling up, controlling a horde of orks that can be changed and a choice of loot at the end of the mission.
Dawn of War II was what led me into playing Warhammer 40K. I bet maxmini is going to be selling out on their Pirate Ork heads soon enough.
Where is the Imperial guard?? 🙁 are they even playable?
There is a 6th race being included but there are a lot of hints that it will be inquisition though the guardsmen and storm trooper models already in the game may be used as part of there force.
not the same 🙁
This looks mad lame.
I’m wet at the idea of conducting my very own Waaagh! I loved all the DoW games; from winter assault to soulstorm and DoW II to Chaos Rising. Im on edge for Space Marine and now Retribution; the only way I could be more of a whore for Games Workshop and THQ is if I let them brand their logo on mai butt. That privilege is reserved for Jimmy Kudo and/or my boyfriend. Or any Ork who wants my ass for their own, but thats a givin, naturaly.
Was that Kaptain Badrukk?
