“Deneghra is all about control, and a little bit about denial…”
Why does that remind me of someone’s ex-girlfriend ?
ON the other hand, I guess she’s “good support” as well…

Great video. Its nice to get a run down on the models and how they might be used. Are there going to be similar videos for other factions?
@gamerjohn … Yes… we’re going to take a look at all the WM and Hordes factions.
I must say two things :
1. Why you didn’t say anything about Helldivers ?!?!??!! They are the best thing with deneghra’s tier. You can make 15 pts tier three just putting 4 helldivers and 2 necrotechs ( that comes with 2 scrapthralls , therefore 4 four solos ).
Helldivers can burrow and effectively move 8 inch per turn and the enemy can’t do anything about it ! Don’t worry about the rule that said they would die if some one covers they entire 3 inch exit range when they are burrow, it would never happen in a 15pts battle. And if the enemy goes for no jacks/beast and all units you can use helldivers as decoy to lure them when you want and if doesn’t fall for it the better because you can go on and on with one hell for the caster kill :). Easy don’t you think ?
I’ll give you two army list for that :
Deneghra,
4x Helldivers,
(bonejack of your choice, it can be any one because it comes for free :), place a stalker or a arcnode ),
Slayer or 2x Pistol Wraiths,
2x Necrotechs
That is 15 pts !!! Another one, use this one in a big board with open ground :
Deneghra,
4x Helldivers,
2x Ripjaw,
3x Necrotechs
Last one :
Deneghra,
4x Helldivers,
1x Nightwrecker,
1x Siren ( you can make her put some focus that would make you easier to shoot blasted strikes with the nightwrecker for free ).
2x Necrotechs
2. You didn’t say anything about Deneghra feat, which is a wining or save. I would always leave the enemy very vulnerable and in their turn they can’t do much about it, specially in a 15 pts game where most of the enemy units can be put inside deneghras control area.
The only bad aspects about it is that you must go a lot near to the enemy and they could try to make a charge over you caster if is not well protected, but that is very easy to make with 6 warjack :P. Also the fact that it doesn’t diminish fury is very sad, it should be! but well…
And i agree about the defiler… but maybe if the opponet goes with a all infantry army it would be better to stick a Defiler and clean the place with 1 free spray and 2 more arcnoded from dene… it can come for free if you use some of those list 🙂
Great video again. I actually won my first game playing with my new Crix box. I think my next purchase may be pistol raiths. I actually got bile thralls as an addition to the army. Not thinking of using them now as the whole poision thing got slated. It is good against one point damage troops though?
Im about 50/50 win ratio with my mate who got the cygnar box set. I enjoy ghostwalk too much to give her up plus i designed a 25 point army that uses bane thralls, Nightmare stalkers and a pistol wraith for stealth army 😛
I’m not a cryx player but I always saw the defiler as a better arc node option than the deathripper. To me an arc node wants to stay out of melee so any ranged attack is better than melee. Plus the benefits of all the things sprays ignore is pretty amazing.
Even without playing her I can tell your selling pDenny short. She can be brutal with the feat stacked with her debuffs, but it dose take much more finesse than just using cryx’s brute offensive force -maybe not quite as satisfying either.
Hey, I speak from my experience as a beginer Cryx player with 3 mangled metal games behind my belt, two wins (Kador and pMagnus) and one lose against a veteran Cryx fielding Mercs with Jan ‘d Arc.
I get lot of satisfaction when playing with Deneghra. Nothing can match the feeling of dealing dice+ damage against Khador ‘jacks. Also Denny has realy nasty debuffs. They are so good, that I rarely find any spare focus to cast ghostwalk, not even to mention venom. Her feat is also just pure evil. The saying goes “On Denny’s featturn everything is dangerous”.
On the archnode discussion I don’t see a clear winner. Defiler is clearly not rubish but neither is Deathripper. I would concider both options when building my army as deathrippers are cheap but defilers have a coroding spray, whitch can be devastating against low(er) DEF troopers in shieldwall. From my experience thusfar, neither defilers nor deathrippers attacks were realy used, they both were just arcnodes with legs.
I agree with you guys, that the pistol wraiths are cool, but they are also quite situational. Don’t forget, that they lose incorporeal the turn, they shoot so they will need some luck to survive the retaliation. And if the enemy has magical attacks, they might even have dificulties getting into position.
What you totaly missed out is the Skarlock Thrall. Most Cryx players agree, that he should be the first purchase after the battlebox. The reason is, that you can field him with any warcaster in an eficient way so it’s a long term investment, as you probably will allways need one Skarlock Thrall.
The first buy for a new Cryx player should be the Deathjack, its one of those all purpose killers, expensive but worth every point!
Nice video. However i got some points of feedback: Influence doesn’t move the model just let’s u make 1 melee attack. Use the arc nodes for Cripling grasp then deathchill the other models u don’t like. Effectively u get 3 moddels not beeing able to charge and 2 not doing anything usefull.
Use scourge during the feat turn. It does cost a lot but the knocking down side of it is very nasty and usually let’s me win the game. Specially if u got Pistol Wraiths with soultokens on them.
I play Deneghra a lot and if u set up ur spells in the right order u are bound to give the opponent a big headache and have a good chance of winning. Even in smaller games.
And I never use the DeathJack with Deneghra(epic or normal) I find that Nightmare is a good addition. I’m not getting into the “best arcnode” discussion. I personally use defilers and never regretted it. They let u “pre measure” ur spells (most of her spells have an 8″ range) and that’s quite usefull to me.
Like dais said Deny is a warlock who requires finesse and i think she’s one of the more brutal warcasters u can get for Cryx. If used correctly
Denny is a toolbox caster. If you mis-use her tools, she can seem weak. When you use her tools correctly she is a house.
Venom is a toolbox spell. Venom kills infantry dead. 10 + 2d6 means 17 damage is the middle of the bell curve, which means it melts single wound models not in shield wall or ARM buffed. Venom causes corrosion though, so 2/3rds of the tightly packed shield wall troops that you hosed down with venom will die from the auto-point of damage. All for 2 focus on a 7 focus warcaster. Plus, if her Skarlock can cast Parasite on a warcaster and then Denny feats, she can spam 3x effective POW 15s rolling an effective 9+2d6 to hit.
The defiler is also a good jack that is worth the extra point in the right list. Rat 5 is *normal* for a spray attack, and corrosion kills single wound infantry dead regardless of their ARM. That being said, Denny can debuff DEF with her feat or with Crippling Grasp (and with a Skarlock you can throw Crippling Grasp at two different activation points during her turn to allow twice as many of the models in her army to benefit from the debuffs), the rat of the spray will often be an infantry melting effective RAT of 7. Sure, Denny has virtually the same spell, but using a Defiler to melt some infantry frees up focus for Denny to use a different tool from her toolbox.
The running theme here should be: “If Denny has a Skarlock, it can use X of her spells to do Y and that is really good”
I have a request, if Andy ever reads this, could you please cover Venethrax in a video? 🙂
I’m a bit still confused about the ghost walk spell; in the book it says the model can advance through terrain and obstacles (walls, ruins, etc) but Andy keeps mentioning about going through other models I.e. infantry and ‘jacks.
Can i actually use ghost walk to go through units at all?
From what i’m reading; it can go through terrain, but it doesn’t make the model incorporeal.
I know this is old, but I just found it and I’m shocked. First of all, Deneghra is NOT a second-rate Warcaster. Crippling Grasp, Parasite, Ghost Walk and Scourge are all great spells. Venom is very good at killing warrior models. Influence is not that great to be honest, but sometimes it can actually make a difference. Her Feat is AMAZING, it makes everything better. And combined with her spells she can make anything soft. Basically she makes everything in your army into a dangerous killer by debuffing her enemies. And yeah, she has Stealth. That’s always nice(except against Legion)
Deathrippers are nice, I agree with that. The Slayer is not that good, it needs too much Focus to do it’s job. Agree on the Defiler, 5 pts is not worth it. Pistol Wraiths with her is good. Feat, cast Scourge on the enemy Caster, cast Parasite on the now (hopefully) knocked down Caster. That’s -5 ARM and DEF7 against shooting. Two Pistol Wraiths suddenly went from good to fantastic. That’s an extremely simple tactic, and only the beginning of what the Queen of Debuffs can do.
