Fria Ligan has delved into a new Sci-Fi adventure for role-players. Deal with the insidious Weyland-Yutani Corporation and run from the Xenomorph Peril in ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game.

Here's the setting for this new dark role-playing game which is set to scare...

"The year is 2183—little more than three years since the destruction of the Hadley’s Hope colony on LV-426, the disappearance of the USS Sulaco, and the closing of the prison and lead works on Fiorina 161. The loss of a Sulaco’s Colonial Marine unit along with these Weyland-Yutani sponsored outposts, and the implications of corporate foul play stemming from these incidents, have created an air of distrust between the company and the United Americas.

To add fuel to the fire, conflicts between the rival sectors of space have increased exponentially in the past five years. While unconfirmed, many believe that Hadley’s Hope was a test site for one of Weyland-Yutani’s bioweapons and that an enemy state sent a warship to nuke it from orbit. Others believe that the Company is working with a rogue nation to assume control of the colonies on the Frontier.

The 2180s are a dangerous time to be alive."

It sounds like it's going to be a fascinating take on the Alien universe, plunging you into the terror of exploring space and knowing that something or someone is out there plotting against you. I really like the idea of also embracing a game where the main villains of the piece, the xenomorphs, are going to be so scary you just have to run!

The book is going to come with two game modes included within its pages. The first of these is the Cinematic Play mode which is made of pre-fabricated scenarios which follow the dramatic arcs of the ALIEN films. Each session is a game mode packed with high stakes, fast and brutal action and you are not expected to survive.

The second of the game modes is based around the idea of standard continuous play. You will take on a new cast of characters exploring the ALIEN universe in a sandbox style.

Rules-wise, the game is going to be based on the Year Zero Engine which has been tried and tested in games like Tales From The Loop. It will also feature additional developments in order to bring it in line with the horror of the ALIEN universe.

Horror is a style of role-playing that I think needs to hit a very distinct note in order to work so I am looking forward to what they do here.

Will you be checking this out?
