One of the biggest reveals from Warhammer Day was the showcasing of the new Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team set. Games Workshop are updating another of the older Aspect Warriors kits from the Aeldari range as the Striking Scorpions are going up against Scouts in the new Salvation box set.

After the Gallowdark crashed into the surface of Bheta-Decima, Kill Teams were sent to the surface of this forge world in order to secure what prize they could from the wreckage and deal with whatever had been uncovered by the utterly catastrophic crash. Leading the way, we have the Aeldari Striking Scorpions who have been reimagined in a new plastic kit.

The Striking Scorpions weren't the oldest of the Aspect Warriors kits in need of an update (bring on Swooping Hawks) but they did need to be tweaked and taken away from the realm of Finecast! The new plastic kits look to do the job with a good mix of chainswords and shuriken pistols as well as the deadly mandiblasters. Of course, your Exarch will still be able to deal out the punishment with a scorpion's claw if you prefer.

The Blades Of Khaine have been dispatched to rescue a Farseer who has been captured by the Magos of the planet and kept aboard a seabound rig packed with perilous platforms! I do like these miniatures and it's good to see them being updated to fall in line with the existing Aeldari range. The team did also say that you can mix and match your Kill Team with other Aspect Warriors so maybe, just maybe, we'll see the likes of Warp Spiders and Swooping Hawks also getting updated throughout this season of Kill Team.

We didn't get a look at the Phoenix Lord Karandras either but maybe he will be coming when the Striking Scorpions are released separately for Warhammer 40,000. We've seen Jain Zar and Maugan Ra so I'd guess the deadly Karandras will be sneaking into the release schedule.

Going up against the Striking Scorpions, we have the new Space Marine Scouts that were previewed at the start of 10th Edition.

Whilst being some of the newer recruits amongst the Space Marines, they aren't pushovers and have been tasked with dealing with the Xenos threat. The set comes with options for you to build your Scouts with shotguns, boltguns, sniper rifles, heavy bolters and missile launchers. Swap those heads out and I've now got my Space Wolf Scouts!

The setting for the new Kill Team missions is an industrial rig in the middle of a dangerous sea and so that means you're going to be fighting over some very different terrain than you have before. The actual Salvation box set comes with just a smattering of pieces as you can see here which give a flavour of the location you'll be fighting in but can simply be added to the bevvy of Kill Team terrain you probably already own.

If you do want to get yourself a whole new board for Kill Team, that will be available separately. Killzone: Bheta-Decima gives you the unique setting for your Kill Team games including more platform sections and all sorts of other objective pieces. I can see a lot of miniatures falling to their deaths.

As mentioned above, both the Striking Scorpions and Space Marine Scouts will be available separately for use in Warhammer 40,000. So, unless you're really eager to snap these miniatures up for Kill Team, you shouldn't have too long to wait before you can scoop these up and slot them into your larger armies.

With a whole new planet to explore, it will be interesting to see what new Kill Teams we get. With a focus on the Aeldari in this initial set, I would like to see more Aspect Warriors for my army. Selfish but damn I need some Swooping Hawks! Heck, maybe we'll even get those Exodites that everyone has been eager to see!
