Happy Saturday!
Happy Saturday!!!? the beaver has left because a new beaver turned up. go team Justin.
I don’t think this has as many thumbs ups as this comment deserves
Hilarious !!!
Wooo, 40k! Now I just need hobby lab back on a Monday…
Yes more hobby lab please.
Justin looked much wiser with a beard.
Everyone looks wiser with a beard 😉
And you have to keep in mind, not everyone can handle the bushy weight of manhood 😉 ain’t that right @dignity lol
I watched the Warzone video yesterday and was thinking ‘my god Justin’s beard is getting impressive” now I log in today to find him back to baby face. Oh well he better get started on a new one!
no one is a wise looking or as manly as you Dave 😉
More 40k would be great. As for the live game (Twitch maybe?) that sounds cool but for those of us living in different timezones an ability to stream later would be important.
Yup everything would be recorded and available to watch afterwards
Happy Saturday! Great show. First I love the idea of boot camps but agree that it takes away from the content of BOW. I dread the weekend of the boot camps because it means no weekender. Loved the stories at the top of the show had me laughing especially the squash match tactics.
Absolutely thrilled about the new live segment. I think it’s a great idea and something the community can benefit from. It will definitely motivate me to get a few more projects completed.
This may be a sore spot for some but I would love to see a show for Dust Tactics. If not that I’d prefer to see more bolt action coverage.
Wow… Justin you just went from sexy to…. meh.
Okay I have a question. You guys have had 3 new shows lately, warzone, KOW and WWX. How often will we get a new episode of each?
SChecking is currently being tightened up but basically these shows will fall on a Tuesday or Friday and each show will air every 4 weeks
The beard going is for the best Justin. It was beginning to look like you ate a bear and left the ass hanging out. 🙂
Yeah, I`d like to see hobbylab return.
Gah! XLBS on Saturday. So. Confused……
With you @dawfydd XLBS?…I must be so out of the loop…is this a new format?…
It’s just for this week because of all the stuff going on 🙂
Love the competitive edge Warren! I like the decision around bootcamp as your spot on it could reshape the business and we love BoW as the community space.
As too different scales great to see Warren itch the napoleonic interest with a 6mm Waterloo campaign!!
Looking forward to the future live plans as well sounds interesting, my only additional content I’d suggest is maybe a little more detailed stuff on RPG.
For the Bootcamps I suggest 4 a year. 2 before summer, 2 after summer, or maybe 1 per season. That’s roughly 3 months between bootcamps which shouldn’t be too much of a problem if you reuse terrain, I know the Bolt Action tables could be used in FOW or even KOW with some 4Ground terrain. The Infinity tables could also double for Warzone or 40K, just swap out some of the cleaner buildings for something gritty/gothic.
If you’re at Q-Con make sure to stop by the Relic Knights demo table and say hello to fellow Ninja Rory. Plus get a demo of Relic Knights while you’re at it.
Showcase a old game flintloque. Nepoleonic elves and dogs to much fun
I thought I was the only person alive who remembers that game
Love the beard drop 🙂 It was getting a bit wild.
@warzan Loved your story about sportsday, Could see it all in my mindseye.
Great show looking forward to next segment.
happy saturday guys….. can we have a paint your frog participation show 🙂
Worst cliff hanger since Desolation of Smaug…
I have been watching House of Cards.series 1 the Kevin Spacey character plays video games, series 2 as vice president he is painting ACW figures.
there’s a scene he’s painting and he’s using GW paints, but his brushes are knackered 😉
Anything I can do to help make some Relic Knights coverage happen then just let me know.
From a purely selfish point of view I’m disappointed to see the bootcamps scale back as it limits my opportunities to attend them. That said, watching you prep for them on the blogs and seeing the DzC one, it has seemed like a lot goes into making two days happen. I would suggest scaling back on the amount of work you put into the gaming tables as many games can get by with rolling out a mat and plonking some terrain down, but making awesome gaming tables seems to be in your DNA.
And speaking of the educational benefits of gaming and ‘famous’ gamers, former education secretary and current Lord Chancellor, Michael Gove, discussed his role-playing background and the benefits it has on learning on a Radio 4 show following the passing of Gary Gygax a few years back.
But Micheal Gove is/was a &€*@!??
Bet he always played a LE Drow
Lol!
Sigh …… Justin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmFnarFSj_U
Surely the song shaved off his beard would be more appropriate
https://youtu.be/3nQwLlFF1As
Now hes dead!!! Yeah great lyrics!!!
Thanks – was struggling to link this on my tab. The Kings of Leon bit is so true!
True Commodorerob, a much better choice , now if he kept his beard he could played this to his girlie.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJkLH4uZ73M
Looking forward to the Battlegroup coverage. I’ve managed to get several of the books but not managed to get a game in yet. Not may players in my area. 20mm is a great scale. It’s right in the sweet spot between 28mm and 15mm. I’ve been tempted to run Bolt Action AND Flames of War with the same 20mm models.
Other games I’d like to see more of:
Osprey wargames line especially Lion Rampant.
SAGA
Muskets and Tomahawks
All quiet on the Martian Front
An Uncivil War
Black Powder
Hail Ceasar
Too Fat Lardies has some highly regarded rules too. Can’t get them locally but I would love to see some coverage to help decide if I should order the books from over seas.
+1 for SAGA
You can but them all as pdf’s online
True but I like to have hard copies. I guess I am old fashioned.
@warzan with regards to battlegroup …. can I just say another why another WW2 Game…I understand that ww2 is the most popular historical period but can’t you delve into another historical period with a game?
BLACK POWDER
FIELDS OF GLORY
DBX
SAGA
To name but a few other none ww2 games
Fields of Glory would be soooo great!
Happy Sund… Saturday everybody and WHY JUSTIN, WHY :C
+1 for SAGA
Haha, I sneaked pass the “Duplicate comment detected”. 😉
I will see your +1 and raise you +2 for SAGA.
The Russian-Ottoman War of 1877 in 2mm deserves some extended coverage
I second koraski’s list.
But I’m also strangely excited about the 40k business.
Looking forward to more hobby shows too.
Boot camp wise I do appreciate your dilemma..you are simply too popular 🙂
But it makes me regret even more that I haven’t been able to make the BA one 🙁
Btw..Ed is from Framlingham/ Suffolk which is around the corner from me. Not Yorkshire 😉
Happy day before Sunday!
Completely understand about the boot-camps, wondered where that was going and although you get some Vlogs and live blogs out of them it isn’t your core purpose – especially now Warzan’s released the competitive beast.
Really? You never wondered why his tables had to be bigger, his tower taller, his sub greater-girthed? … actually that question is a job for a professional 😉
How about “40k codex Y: lessons learnt”.
Great show guys. Shame about the scale back on bootcamps but to be honest I think 3 a year is probably a nice target to aim for.
Look forward to seeing some of the new live show ideas come to fruition.
Brilliant Sunday XLBS too, made my weekend!
I’m really looking forwards to the Battlegroup coverage when it comes. Its a great game, and 20mm/1:72 scale is fun, as you said. There is just so much stuff to choose from. Yes, you don’t want to have Dragon for every tank kit, but Revelle or Airfix aren’t so difficult, and even so, if its for a centrepiece unit or something special for your army, that bit extra effort is easily justified.
If you are looking for cheap, simple 1:72 tanks aside from PSC, can I also recommend Armourfast? Well worth a look for gaming purposes. And there are a host of resin vehicles at 1:72. Also for the men, it is worth looking at Valiant kits as well as Zvezda. Both give good value plastics but with some alternatives not available from PSC. Also it is worth looking at metal for 29mm too. Lots of options. Some of the nicest are by the Perry twins for Wargames Foundry. At the cheaper end, Early War Miniatures do stuff you just can’t get anywhere else, such as 1940 French army.
First to Fight is another good source for early war plastic 20mm. I just recently got a few boxes. Just need both the Bolt Action and Battlegroup books for the invasion of Poland now.
Bushido!!! With Rise of the Kage KS delivering in the next couple of months this would be the perfect opportunity to look at that and the TT game. C’mon Lloyd – Japanese wierd with shoguns, ninjas, dragons and zombie puppets… Just to name a few options.
Just think of the Hobby-Lab opportunities with Bushido – compatible with other Japanese themed games:
– Japanese architecture buildings
– Rice fields
Yes. After all Lloyd is into Samurai, and Sam is living in Japan and can go on photo expeditions for source material.
Ooh, I forgot to mention the bootcamps. I absolutely think you made the right decision. A couple done with excellence is great and complements your core competencies very well by providing good content. Doing too many to tns detrement of that core would absolutely be an error. A link with another organisation could work if they could match your standards, but that’s a big ask, and there aren’t many wargaming holiday destinations out there to partner up with! 🙂
New flat, new girl, new style. Well done Justin happy for you.
Ive been contemplating getting rid of mine for crimes against pints.
20mm scale fantastic its about time i love this scale
and would love to get involved 🙂
Some Malifaux content would be great. It’s mentioned now and then but would be good to see you delve into it.
I’d say that you are now at your 100th episode of back stage by the end of the week now. (Playing catch up with the front stage :))
I would like to se some videos on Saga
Same here, give us some SAGA content.
Great show, you must post the frog race video! I know the boot camps must be a massive amount of work but I hope you can keep them going in some way. They’re a great content spinner and they’re a great way of showcasing different games to the community. I’m sure a lot will be happy about the 40k content but I hope you can get the balance right, it’s the variety of different games that you guys talk about that I like. I’m really looking forward to the look into the Battlegroup game series, a great WW2 game that can be played at so many different levels. You should get Warwick Kinrade the author of Battlegroup on the show, he also wrote the German army book for Bolt Action.
XLBS on a Saturday morning!? Am I dreaming or haven’t I sobered up yet, I refuse to say Happy Saturaday,… damn just said it… I’m must still be drunk.
Any how, great show and looking forward to the live content you guys have in the pipeline.
And Justin, you look better without Mings beard,
I like the idea of looking at Battlegroup as it look like it is generally a step up in the level of wargameing from BA.
Saga would be high on my list of games I would like a show on. The barriers of entry is low and the game is easy to learn hard to master – And Ok I have a thing for Vikings.
Guildball would also be one to cover after all it where a Weekender that did lead me into temptation and got me in on the Kickstarter.
Hail Ceasar/Black Power while interesting are big battle games – I can’t see any pick it up for casual games. But they do leave the door open for a lot of periods.
Some of the Spartangames would also be interesting DW – Dystopian Legions or Halo.
I am sure there are other games that I have not thought about right now.
Very funny first half of the show.
Love the direction things are going.
Happy saturday
I like the idea of the live hobby nights as I stuggle in the evenings after work and once the kids are in bed with motivation and just want to go slump in a chair
Happy Saturday, looking forward to the frog race video Warren but will it have to be shown after the watershed
I think keeping the bootcamps a special thing is probably wise, especially given the amount of work it takes for you guys to host them every time, you don’t want to burn out.
I’ve said before, Turn 8 is still to me the best content you have ever put out, I know it wasnt perhaps as well produced as the stuff you do now, but it was great entertainment, so a return to live stuff is always welcome from me.
As far as game series goes, around where I live these days (near Derby) Malifaux is popular in the game stores, an intro into that game would be interesting I think.
Great video again guys thanks.
I so agree here Malifaux is growing so fast in my local comunity too.
One more thing that might be fun would be to get some of the great games from shows like salute come visit some of the one there is not a mass market system for instance @commodorerob and his naval battle of Dogger.
And thinking of Salute 7 TV should be on my list above as well
Halo: Fleet Battles, would perhaps be a good series! How often do you get a chance to cover a game from its initial release.
And then, you could do a follow up series with the Halo ground battle game when comes out next year.
And then there is SAGA, but I’m sure it’s been mentioned once or twice already. 😉
Great to see your interest in battlefront, I just got in to, bought my rulebook, and started my collection, I love it because There is so many great models I can use that are not avaible in 15mm, I can create historically accutate preety much any army from any nation fromIIWW. I specialy want to recreate Polish forces from early war, and from what Iv’e been told rules are better than Flames of war, easyer to learn also, but that I can’t confirm myself, haven’t read rulebook yet.
One cam. show look goood guys, the only one that I would miss would be close up cam when you have models to show.
The games That I would like to see is @lloyd fav. Dust! and Batman, rest would like to see more hobby lab, 3 colour up is covered nice, would be nice to see more infinity an wolfsung, You stepped in Warzone, and almost forgot – warmachine – there was promise of that show with @dignity and @johnlyons.
I would like to see mention of Amazing interview that @drac did, well done Sam. I am hoping that this is first part of series, @warzan I hope you will push Sam in to it and maybe make it Live at some point, with chat so we could ask questions too. There is so many amazing people that we would love to hear from about their experience, sculptors, designers, company reps, Modl makers etc.
cheers and see you tommorow.
Check out First to Fight for early war Polish forces and their German counterparts. Excellent figures and vehicles. I think you can buy them through PSC.
With regards to telling new girlfriends about your hobby, try explaining LARP. I had to explain that one within a fortnight of meeting my wife because she came to my house and found the costume and weapons.
Absolutely loving the idea of live content. Can I suggest the ideal time of about 7pm Saturday your time. This would still make it the weekend in NZ and A US as well as on the other side of the world in the U.S. Weekend allows a lot of people around the world to participate.
Battle group is a game I’ve been considering… I’m really liking the 20mm scale. I started building a 20mm German army to use for BA, but I’m tempted by Battlegroup. My next two projects for 20mm are going to be the Korean War. I’m hoping to bring back some bits and bobs from my China trip for that, along with a planned trip to the Korean War museum in China.
The other project is going to be Waterloo and Pennisular campaign.. The Napoleonic war is one of my favourite periods in military history and as it’s the 200 year celebration of the battle this year I finally decided to war game it.
I also have plans to build a Ming army in 20mm….
Do you need @dignity heads for that Ming army 😉
@dignity head for the commander would be pretty amusing….lol…though I’d have to green stuff the beard to look more Fu Manchu in length…;)
I couldn’t agree more about slowing down the bootcamps. I was actually quite surprised at how quickly the Bolt Action one followed on from DZC. I am mainly interested in you as a content company and while I’m not against the events, I’m sure they are great and you certainly have the expertise and energy to run this sort of thing, your online content is my interest.
Very pleased that you are maintaining your focus. Two Boot Camps a year sounds reasonable to me.
It *may* sound pretentious, but ‘The Final Word’ sounds like a great name for the new show about GW product reviews/examinations.
I was wondering when the Bootcamp repercussions would sink in. Despite there being less bootcamps and consequently less chances to get into one, I support your decision to stay focused on content instead of events.
The live content with all the community linking in from home sounds great. I don’t bother that much with the forum, but if the content is presented live I’m more likely to watch and join the activities. Looking forward to see how that shapes up.
Happy Sunday… er I mean Saturday!
For a few weeks ive been feeling and posting that the boot camps have kind of grown into a beast (no pun intended) and taken over BoW. It does appear they are fun and exciting for your local community and you guys to get together for a weekend of gaming. However, for many of us who are geographically (and thus financially) hindered from attending, its a lot of time and effort put into enjoyment for a small portion of the community.
If you had them more sparingly, like 2-3 times a year, not only would they consume less time, but you could use the planning and prepping for the event to create other content for the community. Hobby labs could be centered around terrain for the event. Unboxing miniatures for the games for the event. Painting videos based on figs for the event.
If looking for other games to cover, i think a Spartan Games themed week would be awesome. They seem like great guys, and have a wide range of games that could appeal to a wide range of the community between the dystopian, firestorm, and now Halo universes.
I think they are a brilliant idea though, and would love to attend.
But I know for myself I have asked myself “can we should we be doing more open days at our local club to introduce people to new games?”. Basically can we do the day in miniature (oops, no pun intended) locally.
It would good to cover games that could be played when time is a problem, such as Songs of Blades and Heroes…
I grew up in the same valley as Ed Sheeren and I’ve no idea where he find space marines back when he was 8!
It would be nice to see an Introduction to Infinity. I love the setting and the feel of the game, but I have a lot of trouble getting my head round the more complex mechanics.
Great show as always chaps , so glad to hear that the boot camps will not take over. i like the live blogging but that in itself doesnt do much to keep me entertained i much prefer a mixed bag even if i dont play the games featured. its always good to watch learn and then make an informed decision plus with you guys adding the laughs and personality its much more enjoyable for one and secondly gives an insight as to how getting to grips with it, made you feel.
i for one really miss and would like to see on the table return or something similar as i really had my eyes opened to other figures and companies watching it. i never missed an episode and can see it being of much use to newbies in the hobby by simply broadening their outlook to beyond GW and other high visibility manufacturers.
Another thing id like to see are some actual battle reports featuring you guys, maybe a monthly challenge where a different game is featured each time.
Using Lloyd as an example he could challenge John to a DUST battle do a pre battle introduction to the sides play the game and then critique it afterwards. if johns never played before he could give his opinions, highs, lows etc. Run it like a league with all the BOW team showing their faces and to keep Warren happy you could get a cheap trophy for the overall yearly winner to appease his competitive side. just a thought……………..
I agree, battles between the BoW guys would be great fun, doesn’t matter wich game they play, I just want to hear the friendly banter.
Enough with the “how to play the game” series. Throw down the gauntlet, and join a proper battle! 😉
Famous gamers: UFC heavyweight and former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett plays Magic the Gathering.
RELIC KNIGHTS! Would love to see that, i have two starters that i want to build a play once i get done painting my cryx, deadzone stuff and my undead army from KoW… man, i need that painting live event!
Other shows… well, i want more warmahordes videos, specially that tale of two gamers. One thing that could be great as a show is a monthly show related only to kickstarters, more like a news report that talks exclusively about what kickstarters will appear, the result from previous ones, any important updates and when they hit retail. On the Table is no more, so i feel something is missing…
Great show guys. I fully agree with your decision on the boot camps. While I know you think the live blogging makes us part of it too. It really doesn’t. It has felt like BoW was changing (and for the worse as far as I’m concerned) with the addition of so many boot camps. I like that you are returning or rather recommitting to your core of being a content provider.
As for new content I think the 40K sounds interesting. I think you should have someone prepared to try the new WH Fantasy stuff when it is released. I’ve heard a lot about SAGA but never played it and I’d like to see some introductions to it. Malifaux is a very popular game and some coverage of it would very interesting. There are a few new games that I think you could cover with an unboxing/introduction such as the new Halo game (as well as a number of KS games which are starting to deliver).
Over all guys I think you are going in the right direction (or at least the direction I signed up for). Keep up the great work.
More Mantic content Please! Warpath specifically, love where they’re going with the game and the models are super.
What that guy said. Would be superb to do a video with the new rules once finalised.
Cool! I’ll get my fix tomorrow too! 😀
Happy Saturday!
I think one of BoW’s problems from the stuff you list here is you have 8, 9, 10 or more Ideas that are a viable enterprise all on their own, but to do them requires a full time investment from the team, which means you can only ever do one. Then you’re left with the dilemma of which is “the best” for example lets say you start making waffles and selling them mail order and it makes piles of cash, but none of you are waffle makers and its boring, and you can’t make much website content (aside from maybe ambushing each other on camera with spatulas). The alternative would be to set up a second team to make waffles while you made website stuff, but then you’re stretching the resources and is it really worth doing the waffle thing if it’s just paying for itself?
0 for 3 on WWII games that I like.
Good thing the anniversary of Waterloo is over, now we can go back to ignoring anything that happened before 1939.
Which WWII games do you like @jerichosmith?
Or do you not like any of them and would rather something from a different time period?
I like Chain of Command for WWII, but have since picked up BA to give it a look. But my interests tend towards earlier historical periods.
I’d love to have more Warmachine stuff..
I loved that beard. How…..how could you just shave it off? You make me sad.
Anyway for games to do I would like to see Relic Knights for a start. Along with that I would like to see Saga, Godslayer, Darklands, both Dystopian Wars with Legion, Firestorm Armada, Planet Strike, and definetly the Batman miniatures game. Batman is the one I would love to see the most out of all of these. Heck I would love to see a week on this one.
I’m surprised you’d be willing to give GW that much free airtime considering how they treated you in the past. Or have they changed their tune since then?
I think it’s a case of “separate the art from the artist” there, no matter how litigious gw have been, how mercenary their attitude to long term players etc, they still make great products even if they insist on a few idiotic practices within those kits -eg separate legs and torso on most infantry. Most folk still pay some attention to GW, whether it’s waiting on their next army, hoping for a return to old ways, or hate watching, so it makes sense for BoW to do 40K content.
Always enjoy XLBS no matter what the content.
Happy Saturday
could you guys touch on using 15mm and 28mm WITH the battlegroup rules? Im interested in battlegroup however I already have tons of 28mm terrain and minis as Im sure the case with many of us! AvP from Prodos also looks amazing!
with all the talk about putting the bootcamps on a lower gear, and ramping up the live stuff, why not combine the two, and do a live bootcamp, where you live stream the whole process, allowing you to reach people (like myself) who it is cost prohibitive to attend a bootcamp? So have little set ups around the world of 2-4 people who can watch, join in in building their terrain, join in in painting their small starter army, and join in in learning the rules, in order to be able to play to the same level that everyone else is? Record the shows too so that people who would be in the dead of night while broadcasting could join in later as well!
i remember the first paint party and it was jolly good fun. Plus myself and Shadowh3ll have had a google hangout to do some painting.
setting aside time in good company to do some hobby stuff gets 3 thumbs up from me
Hahaha Warrens anecdote is on of the funniest things ever on BoW, reminds me I am here for tabletop 40% but 60% because of your big irish bellies… ehhhm… hearts !!
I like the idea of the live events where people can message and bring their hobbying perspectives and experiences to what you are doing. I imagine you will have a lot of feedback.
@warzan do you have any old videos of a paint party you could post please?
Happy Saturday guys and thanks for another good show; which was a little crazy but in a good way. Would be good if you threw Malifaux in the mix or some live show. Again keep up the good work and see you on the ‘morrow.
I got to say Battlegroup was not one I was expecting it came as a shock after all the 40K chat but it just shows how diverse BoW like a lot of us has become.
20mm this is where I came in. My Wargame life will have gone full circle, hope this isn’t the end for me. I still have my Airfix Soldiers and Tanks packed away.
Saga is an obvious one for me I would also like to see some content on Lion Rampant I only picked up a copy last week skimmed a few pages then spotted on the entry for Serfs in the section Unit upgrade it stated “None you can’t polish a turd” I’m sold on these rules already 🙂
Lion Rampant is excellent. It’s basically replaced SAGA for me now. It’s also generic enough to use for any pre gunpowder era. I’m looking forward to the fantasy version Dragon Rampant that Osprey is working on too!
@koraski I started reading them through this morning. I can’t help thinking Samurai is the way to go for me. I will take it down the club tomorrow to see if I can drum up some interest.
Nice show gang, thnx. Always up for increased content, and while 40K does not interest me I do enjoy seeing what others are up to. Besides, you can’t ignore what is certainly the most popular game of minis. I would like more Infinity and Historical content myself. The 1-3 Boot Camps a year is a good idea. Over the last couple Boot Camps I could see the focus shift entirely to them, sacrificing other content. My suggestion/request would be that the subject matter be determined way in advance(1 year at least) and announced so that folks like me(AZ, USA) can have time to save up for the trip. My Daughter and I would love to come to an Infinity B.C. My last comment would be a show, or series on gaming solo. Perhaps there are not enough subscribers to merit such a show, but I am always searching for mechanics to better my solo games, and add more automation, AI mechanics, etc… Thanks again gang, proud to be a backstager.
I think 3 boot camps a year is perfect. I’d like to see some Wrath of Kings content.
well that was interesting or unusual or both different I’ll go for different.
Hi Chaps
Understand the difficult position you are in, I appreciate the level of commitment and risk the core team have supporting BoW, as I doubt anybody will be getting rich. Is it possible that an external partner could use the research as a basis for a business plan, considering the potential location as a bonus. Is there not business funding available through Stormont, as this has the potential to bring income into the Province, and create jobs? I also appreciate your wish to stay true to your aims and ideals. Cool show and thanks for the efforts on delivering two shows, as I thought I would miss my XLBS fix.
@warzan For your winter competitive project, Warren, I would put forth Warmachine/Hordes as something you should seriously consider. It has a great background/story, a large number of factions to choose from in terms of aesthetics, play styles, and background. The rules are generally clear with little ambiguity in the language and the overall game is reasonably balanced. Narrative scenarios and linked scenarios can be quite fun and there is a very strong competitive aspect in the WM/H community as well. Nothing like being on the verge of losing your match and pulling out the win at the last moment with a well played turn. There is Steampunk fantasy. Undead pirates. Rock’em Sock’em robots and monsters that can grab, push, throw, headlock, and headbutt each other. What’s not to like?
As for Battlegroup and 20mm, great! I look forward to seeing some shows featuring this system. I have the books, but I haven’t bought any miniatures yet. It looks good. I love that it emphasizes building plausible armies based off of what sorts of forces would realistically have been available during the time frame and theater.
As for systems I’d like to see featured more on BoW, Warmachine/Hordes, or course, but also it would be nice to see some Malifaux too.
When your looking into Battle Group can you tell us if the 20mm scale really matters with this rule system. Could you play it the same at 15mm or 28mm? Would be nice to know. Field of Glory for example can be played in 15mm and 28mm.
You can use any scale you like. It’s geared towards 15mm and 20mm specifically but you could use 28mm. You’d have to limit the scope of your games to fit on a reasonable table size though.
Agree with you on bootcamps, enjoyed the scenery but it was taking over.
Would love to have been on one, but this format should be taken on by the companies themselves.
No reason some of the companies can’t hire a hall in a major city and present the same formula
Personally love reviews of new games/terrain, strategy series on existing games and just a chill out with weekend shows.
Great idea but too time consuming
Battlegroup for those that have asked plays very well at 15mm and 20mm. The author uses 20mm but there is no reason why other scales can’t be used and with no changes to the rules. Have seen players use existing FOW armies that only need a little extra book keeping. The size of the game is also very adaptable from squad (skirmish), platoon, company and if you have the time battalion level. 28mm is doable but probably need a bit more space to play.
That’s good news. I just started a 15mm FOW army. I’ll see if these Battlegroup rules look fun.
looking forwards to so much of the contents coming fruition. Epic as always.
David Beckham and sons spotted in Games Workshop.
Couldn’t afford to buy something for BOTH of them.
Long term viewer, new to backstage and loving the shows. Looking forward to 40k getting some focus and love the idea of drilling down into an army. I have played for many years and have some beautiful armies, but don’t play too much these days because I just can’t keep up with it as I manage all the or games as well. I am going to throw one out there for Warren to look at with his historical hat, Impetus. Been around forever as a set of ancients rules but recently undergoing a resurgence out here in Australia. We play in both 15mm and 28mm and the diorama aspects are similar to KoW…thanks again for the shows
Would like to see Causeway Giants live wargaming club every Sunday
Mega excited to see what you do with Battlegroup and how you think it plays after covering Bolt Action and Flames of War
Brian May (Queen) was a Warhammer Fantasy player
@warzan should have mic-dropped that frog at the end. That would have lent a lot more humor to the win.
Slowing down the pace to the Boot Camps makes a lot more sense. I love the VLOGs but is seems like we are missing so much more about the creative process that goes into these. As mentioned before you could Hobby Lab the heck out of these. Do assembly and paintups for the models supplied. Etc…
Would you consider coverage of rule systems copacetic with systems already discussed? E.g,
Too Fat Lardies
Two Hour Wargames
SOTR
Iron Ivan
Heavy Gear/Gear Krieg
Yes, my first backstage is a two-parter!
Can’t wait to see the new content and it’s a relief to see that for those in different time zones, we still will be able to enjoy it as a recording.
It could be fun for the BOW team to venture in some boardgames (the big ones like Zombicide or those that warrent a second look maybe) and RPGs every now and again, just to change pace.
See you tomorow!
Happy Saturday (where I am it’s still Saturday
The decision for content is much appreciated! Live content should be interesting, is there a good way to get in touch with possible community members in our respective areas? I’d be interested in generating a gaming group from the community
@dignity, WHY, you fool! I suggest that this time you grow mutton chops!
Would love to see a return or re-visit to Carnevale. And maybe, just maybe, see a little bloodbowl. Or bloodbowl meets dreadball?
Great show, laughed myself silly. Justin, I can understand why the beard came off. Beards are itchy and irritate the skin and the hair gets in the mouth as does yesterdays dinner and this is just from a girl friends point of view, lol. The best thing about beards is you can always regrow it (this is not from a womans point of view, we never really like beards. We just really like the person underneath them.)
whos the guy on the left?
Wait, that was a “baby face” on Justin? With that five o’clock shadow, he should be able to grow the beard back by Tuesday latest. And it was nice to see Warren clean shaven as well.
With such a group of characters, the variety of t shirts and tops we see and a passion for all things hobby. You are surrounded on set by so many great games with great artwork how can you be using 3 plain mugs? It’s like having a blank canvas hanging on the wall of our version of the National Gallery. Head back to the pound store and get some fun mugs that say something about you guys 😀
I’m liking the sounds of more content focus again, and online live hangouts are definitely cheaper for me to get to from Australia ;). That said I’d still be hopeful for the two or three boot camps per year so I can make it to one eventually.
Themed week wise I’d like to see a Relics week (Tor Gaming), another +1 for Saga and perhaps a Wrath of Kings week, help me get the motivation to get my kickstarter haul assembled and painted.
Any chance of seeing some 6mm Napoleonics, or any 6mm ancient battles ?
It’s a scale that seems to be kept just for those old timer gamers and not shared with newbies.
Any chance your site could have a list of gaming clubs put up ?
I too would love to see Relic Knights get a look see … I would also like to see the Robotech game get played.
I’d love to see you guys cover more miniature sports games, specifically Guild Ball
As a bearded wargamer I’m crying now 🙁 What a loss…. 😀
…still can’t watch the videos!
Use the tech support form and give as much detail (screen shot) as possible and we’ll try to get you sorted 🙂
Maybe it wasn’t you, Warren- maybe it was the frog…
Totally understandable regarding slowing down the Boot-Camps- limiting the number per year also makes them seem more like a ‘big event’ (so to speak).
Really like the idea of the live ‘Hobby Nights’ too, by the way!
Who is that men on the left ??? lol
Horray Battlegroup is coming…..
Why not just try for 4 Boot Camps a year? That would give you 3 months prep between each, and as you go on the more multi-purpose terrain and maps you have and reduce prep.
I think the bootcamps are really a unique experience for those attending and hope I can attend one in a few years, but more than happy you are scaling back. They did seem to intrude in/take over every VLOG, Weekender, XLBS for several weeks before hand and I was also surprised how quickly the next one came after the last. So getting back to conentrating on the other content sounds great.
You ruined our beard brother moment from salute Justin……..
…I disapprove
Sad as I am that I haven’t been able to make it to a bootcamp (I’d love to have gone to the DZC one especially), I think it’s the right decision for the show to scale back on them. I enjoyed watching the preparations for them, but missed the weekenders when you were actually having them, and found the live blog a bit harder to keep up as there were so many posts!
I also think it’s good to keep them special rather than routine. And I get the feeling that some people were beginning to feel that they were taking over too much.
Happy to see you exploring Battlegroup. I picked up the Blitzkrieg book at Salute, though haven’t looked at it yet.
I’d also like to you to do a series on modern/near future skirmish / special ops gaming. Not necessarily on one particular rules set either. Have the theme be the them, and then try out different rules: Skirmish Sangin, Spectre, Force on Force, etc.
I have a few figures that would suit these games, but don’t know enough about any of them to decide which to pick.
Oh, and also, some Malifaux please! I’ve just started picking up some of the amazing miniatures, but I don’t really know where to start with it.
And another thought on the bootcamps… Perhaps you could host them for companies that want to put them on? Someone else commented that companies should be doing them for themselves, but I can see how many of them wouldn’t have the ability to do so, nor the means to reach out to so many people. But perhaps there could be a middle way? You host, advertise and participate in events, but make sure that the companies do most of the prep. work. Making scenery, scenarios, etc. obviously they’d have to meet your standards and ensure that what they brought was special and worthy of being filmed, but it could take some of the pressure off you while making it more feasible for many of the smaller companies.
love the sound of 40k theme week. Any chance that model could be applied to other games as well?
I’m happy as all get out that you’ll be doing some 1/72 scale stuff. I play 1/72 scale modern and have been feeling pretty lonely, what with 15mm dominating the scene.
I agree with the 3/4 boot camps a year idea (none of those games bother me too much. Still waiting for a MERCS one 😉 )
will the 40k themed weeks be like the old BOW 40k themed weeks?
I haven’t read all the comments just yet, so sorry if this has already been proposed.
We need a Justin segment. Similar in style to the Harry Enfield sketch Jess’ Diet, “This week I are mostly been…growing my beard back.
A method of chart the progress and see if the shaving will be recreated or not (hopefully not mate)
Congratulations on the race @warzan 🙂
@dignity shame on you.
