Happy Sunday
Happy Sunday arvo
Happy Sunday to all.
You guys think the Celts are bad you haven’t see the monster! It has different types from the sprue cut and uncut and I am not talking about how you take it off the sprue.
Great XLBS guys, thanks.
Looking through the comments across the forums, Re-Roll has been very well recieved by the majority of backstagers. I don’t think anyone sees it as anything other than to compliment the website. I commented previously that to me it’s worth the backstage subscription alone because I don’t have the time to do the site justice and I like to browse content at my leisure and digital issues allow me to do that. GW have White Dwarf, Manic have Ironwatch, Warmahordes have Chronicles, BoW have Re-Roll :-). If you want structured feedback, put up a short questionaire with a prize draw – prizes equal posts 😉
Great to see some Warhammer World content. I wish the new cheeses at GW would get back around the table with you guys . The new approach and resurgence in GW is encouraging and I’m hoping that they will rekindle relationships with you and other organisations they previously annexed.
Happy Sunday!
Know where you’re coming from. Campaign Cartographer is a b**** to learn to use, but you can do some great stuff with it
I maybe could be a little clearer that it was about the time it took to put together as much as it was about unique conent. I think if Re-Roll can be put together quite quickly, then it needs no new content. If it’s taking time to do it, then I think that time needs to justify itself as it takes time away from doing content for something else. I could easily be wrong about this and even with recycled content only it does work as a recruitment tool and so justifies the time.
I think that charging for it but giving it for free to Backstagers probably wouldn’t be a good idea, because if someone is prepared to pay for content then they’ll sign up for Backstage. If they’re not, then they won’t likely pay for Re-Roll. On the other hand, a free version of Re-Roll with less content and maybe some ads, and a free version for Backstagers with extra content and no ads, might make it into a recruitment tool.
In terms of unique content, I think the community it probably the best source about that. I made a comment about @torros doing a column on releases by companies who don’t normally make the site, and I was only half-joking. Having the community create content that wouldn’t otherwise be suitable for the site would add unique content that doesn’t take a lot of your time. Whether it’s product releases, Tale of Four Gamers-style articles, op-ed pieces by community members (or even industry pros), hobby articles, and what have you, those types of things could help Re-Roll carve out its own niche and offer something for everyone. Not that it should necessarily have unique content, but if it does then this would seem to me to be a good way of doing it.
Campaign cartographer seems like a good tool. Does it have any potential to be used as a campaignmap for miniature games?
I’ve taken my first steps into DBA and would like to make up a small campaignmap for my romans and carthagians to fight it out over.
CC3 does have the option to insert hexes onto a map. I have used it for a small campaign but I tend to agree with others who have commented that it is a hobby in and of itself. If I used it more often I would get better at it but there are people who use it professionally to do maps for game companies and books.
Happy Sunday!!
Well it would be happier if the video even started on my Android tablet… Over to my laptop!
I have been having problems on the tablet as well as it suddenly stopped working on Chrome. I have got it to work on Puffin though
Glad to be of help @warzan cant wait to see more!
Great show . Mierce miniature sell bases with arcs marked as part of their templars forge range. 30 40 50 60 80 100 and 120mm
@warzan check out Burrows and Badgers by Oathsworn. They produce a range of minis such as rabbit warriors you could use for the rabbit men. Another good mapping software is Dundjinni. http://dundjinni.com
And the old Bunnies and Burrows RPG by FGU
http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/82542/Bunnies-And-Burrows
Happy Sunday All.
Intresting discussion about bases. I’m no great painter but have often found that if you put a little bit of effort into the basing of the minatures it can forgive even my sloppy painting. What I don’t like is when bases are over engineered with massive rocks or large parts of scenery taking the focus away from the model
I’ve always wondered why no one produces clear plastic bases that require no painting or flocking too allow the minatures to look like they belong on the specific table they are played on.
@warzan love the map, it looks really good.
Wow, thanks for the shoutout, my daughters eyes lit up when she heard it this morning (as did mine!). Really nice to meet you in person and glad you had a great day there. The exhibition is my go to place when I have painters block or in need of hobby inspiration besides BoW of course.
Nice to meet you too dude 🙂
Ben I think you must have missed my message about free Forgeworld open day ticket a few months ago but glad to see you got to go there in the end 😉 WH World was 100x better than the last time I visited a good few years ago, the cake at Bugman’s was epic!
I got first mention woohooo!!!
Great show guys, as always. There is another series of programs for dungeon and world building called Hexographer, Dungeonographer and Cityographer. There is a free trial version of Hexographer that is pretty powerful. It is more of a 2d style design system. Matt Colville has an entire YouTube series about running Dungeons and Dragons. He used Hexographer to livestream via Twitch with his followers to create a world called, Collabris. The videos of the world building process as well as Dungeon Master skills series can all be found here: https://www.youtube.com/user/mcolville. One of the concepts that he likes to focus on, is prep time management. He prefers to buy or download existing maps and adventures and twist them to his needs. Less time prepping and more time playing. A great resource can be found here https://osrtoday.com/ with their series Map Monday. Most mondays you can find a one page dungeon map, and often what is in them. Sometimes it is just the map, and you can fill it with your own Creatures. It is amazing for people that can’t draw, or just don’t have the time to, but want to populate the dungeon with their own stuff.
Morning chaps. Many thanks for the golden button. The Cwn Annwn (phonetic kun annoon, I think.) Are indeed from Welsh mythology. With regards to the warband I’ll be taking inspiration from the broard range of the Celtic peoples. I’ll certainly be looking at the ancient Britons, also the Irish and Gallic Celts as well as the Welsh. Fionn Mac cumhaill and Cu chulainn are planned as well as Boudicea. And possibly Pwyll Prince of Dyfed. Kind of like the Avengers of the Celtic world.
Hexographer also has 2 other programs that are free to use they allow you to make dungeons and cities as well.
Ben the Harey(Rabbit man relation?) Is right when he talks about authors basing worlds on what they know. CS Lewis based all of Narnia on County Down as it is where he spent his holidays as a child
And Ridley Scott based the nightmare industrial futurescape of Blade Runner on Middlesbrough…
Happy Sunday everybody
I think that you need a new episode of Justin vs Dragons, where Warren vs the mighty cartographer. Apparently he only knows one spell and he casts it often and with vigour on Warren, confusion. There is Justin in the corner, “We could go down without a map”.
“No I am making this map is kills me” Warren calls out. Justin “I’ll go find the local priest, I hope he knows resurrection”.
Happy Sunday!
Well, to sort things out because it seems that @warzan has some weird mood today concerning the interpretation of things and making them look shallow. I did not post a comment on the prices that was connected with some weird mambo jambo conspiracy pricing theory that is EVIL. I just pointed out that stuff produced by a hobby company is always more expensive than the one produced by a normal manufacturer and I did give other examples, not only plastic sprues. Yet, your commentary on this pointed out some stuff that I did not think of like the hiring of artists, editors etc. I would be inclining to argue that companies that produce scale models also pay for the art on the boxes, they also need to hire people who take care of the distribution and so on and so on. They just lack the people who invent fluff and they usually do not produce big books printed on high quality paper but that changes. Vallejo for example does not produce models but they print a lot of hobby/modelling books that are far more lavish than some high end rule books. May be a bad example. I do not know.
Thank you once again for the Golden Button. I do get the point about the ugly base However, I am actually more inclining to agree with Justin that is painted this way for gaming purposes and yes aren’t the miniatures that we paint supposed to be played? I know that within the community we have painters, gamers, painter-gamers, lurkers and so on. Meaning (let me explain it so my words won’t get twisted again) that some people just paint while others just play hiring people to paint their stuff and there is I believe a majority of people who paint and play. Some game systems are more competitive than the others. I play Warmchine. It is a highly competitive game and still I play it causally. The issue is, all the people in the club are competitive, tournament level gamers and the first thing I have heard after my firs game was: you need to mark the front arc on the bases and this is how it is done. Yeah, it is not a holy word and I could have done it in a different fashion with I do not know putting two little dots on the sides of the base or do not care at all but I just don’t want to be this guy that sits at home and grumbles all the time that he has no one to play with (and I remember we had a video here about this on BoW). So, I do believe that one has to decide whether he treats their miniatures as gaming pieces or not. I do believe that most of the miniatures produced by companies, excluding busts and diorama pieces, are produced with that in mind. Of course you can paint them and lock them in a glass cabinet if you like. It is your choice and I am absolutely fine with this.
Your map looks really good @warzan If it is the firs time you are using this software you have done a really nice piece of art. I like the fact that the buildings resemble something like Heroes of Might and Magic III art.
@yavasa: according to the front arc marking issue with Warmachin/Hordes, I have totally to agree with you. If we want to play with those minis, we have to mark the front arc. As a casual Warmachine gamer I have to point out: The easier to spot, the better to play – both for you and your opponent. May be we have to invent a way to masc those arc for presentation? But I messed around with this and came to no good solution, since I collect and play Warmachine.
I’m with @yavasa on this. At the end of the day, miniatures are playing pieces plain and simple. Maybe this is what comes from a lifetime of hex-and-counters, but I’ve never seen miniatures as anything more than pretty gaming pieces, with functionality trumping form whenever they come into conflict.
I know I’ve been writing a lot on BattleTech lately, but those minis are usually mounted on hex-shaped bases of a specific size for much the same reason you guys are talking about with Warmachies. The hex is part of the gaming piece, part of the system, it marks arcs of fire, turning radius, and helps determine where the mech is struck when incoming fire hits it. The hex can have rocks or gravel or bushes, etc, but the shape, size, angles, and points of the hex have to be clear and strictly standardized, ESPECIALLY when you want to take the BattleTech game off its native hex grid and play on a true miniatures table (which I prefer, in passing).
Actually, I don’t think a colored base is bad for display, either. I can picture two armies of Warmachine jacks painted up like this, on their red and blue-ringed bases, looking like pieces in a custom-made chess set. 😀 If all the reds and blues are painted STANDARD on standard bases, it would actually look pretty awesome. 😀
@tuskar it seems we have to take pictures of the miniatures just before painting the front arc on the base. 😉
@oriskany I couldn’t agree more. I tend to treat miniatures just the way you have described above that is fancy gaming pieces. I am okay if someone treats them the other way. As you have pointed out the bases for BattleTech are hexed shaped for a reason so are the front arcs marked in Warmachine. 😉
btw. I am planning to take some group shots of my Cygnar army 😉 they all have these bases 😀
I’m not against having marks on bases to indicate arcs and the like, but when i envisage putting a miniatures and gaming tables together i’m aiming to recreate a ‘reality’, so i want these arcs and the like to be as unintrusive as possible. I’m for translucent / transparent bases, and miniatures with camoflage that actually camoflages, and those sort of things. Different folks.
Yep, I understand, but you can have as many different bases as there are gaming tables and with the arc markings I just like when they are visible to the gamer I am currently playing with so there is no confusion.
Oh… hm yeah don’t forget to take pictures in the process of painting is something I usually forget. Bad habbit I belive 🙂
There’s another upcoming mapmaking program that promises to be more intuitive. It was kickstarted and is in beta:
http://www.otherworldmapper.com/index.html
Happy Sunday,
Nice Celts there from Yggdrasil, just to let you know @warzan Crom Crúaich is Irish, he pops up in folklore and there is even street Crom Cruaich Way in Enniskillen. I think there’s a standing stone connected to him in Drumcoo as well.
Really need more fantasy games based on Irish myth, the Book of Invasions and our myth and folklore really lend themselves to it, maybe one for Ronnie when he’s over, eh? 😉
As always yesterdays Saturday weekender and todays xtra shows make up totally for not belonging to a club. The few hours a week of these shows leaves me with a smile on my face.
Going to download ‘Re-roll’ later and have a look at it.
Thanks and keep it up.
P.S. I hope Manny is able to keep a copy of all these shows as evidence just so he can turn around and say “Look what chance did I have?” LOL
Happy Sunday!
Wow, I didn’t expect campaign cartographer to still be around. I used it back in the 90s and remember similar frustration with it and then went back to hand drawing my RPG maps. I’m sure it’s one of those tools that once you get past the steep learning curve it’s very much worth it.
Already gave my feedback in the Re-roll post, but it bears repeating: absolutely loved it. If you’re going this route of offering it to non-backstagers for a small price, something like https://www.pocketmags.com could work.
@warzan I wasn’t 100% sure where you wanted Re-roll comments so have put them in the original Re-roll digest release thread.
Ahhh this just made my day! Them looking over the stuff of the Slaughter Priest painting competition and Justin suddenly going “Uh look at this one!” and seeing my own WIP of him there on the screen! Made me smile from ear to ear!
And thanks for another great XLBS guys, i just love listening to you talk about all this stuff. Weekender and Weekender XLBS are two of my highlights every week.
And those Maps … hmmm … intriguing!
@warzan You might find this book interesting: https://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Draw-Fantasy-Art-Maps/dp/1440340242/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473592875&sr=8-1&keywords=How+to+Draw+Fantasy+Art+and+RPG+Maps%3A+Step+by+Step+Cartography+for+Gamers+and+Fans It’s a great book on making fantasy maps.
@avernos Check out the “Shadows of Esteren” RPG. It’s supposed to be based on celtic myths transposed into a fantasy setting.
I nearly drown in a mouthful of tea when you did the Mexican version of the name butchering.
interestingly enough Tom Schadle has been employed by corvus belli now and is their first US employee .
those Warhammer world dioramas were very cool.
its a beautiful part of the world you live in my friend .
fancy an irish man telling his kids about the fantastical creatures that live in the woods.
get well soon @unclejimmy .
On Re-roll: another thing people need to bare in mind regarding additional content is that it creates more work for you guys, and while that could be alleviated somewhat by some of us volunteering, other than things like fanfic/short stories or an exclusive Justins & Dragons strip, any additional content will be dependent on high quality photos which is something the volunteers might not be able to provide and without those high quality photos, the quality of the mag will be pulled down a bit not to mention it’d be jarring to suddenly go from crisp high quality pics taken with professional cameras to mediocre quality pics snapped by an iPad.
Regarding whether Re-Roll should be sold to non-Backstagers, I say it’s worth a go. Give it a trial and see if it creates an influx of new Backstagers. If it does, great, keep on selling it, if not, then it can go back to being just for Backstagers. The provision for this is that, as you mentioned, it stays free for Backstagers and only non-Backstagers have to purchase it via DriveThroughRPG or wherever.
@dignity: if you want something for creating maps for D&D, check out Roll20 if you haven’t already. It’s not to the detail of what Warren showed, but it can still be used to create nice maps for D&D and other RPGs. And the DM can cover up parts of the map so that players only get to see what their characters would. I’m currently playing in a D&D campaign which uses it and it’s an invaluable tool, especially as we play over the internet so using paper of whiteboards aren’t an option.
Another great show. That “new” White Dwarf must have sold out in minutes, and I’s bet it was the first White Dwarf that had sold out in years.
@warzan, why does anyone in Ireland have to create a secret “other world”. The stories of the Tuatha De Danann fleeing to Tir na nOg, Tir fo Thuinn, Mag Mell and Donn, all lands inhabited by the Sidhe (Elves and Fairies) are the Irish version of all that. You even have the mounds of the dead (entry to that world) littering the country side and New Grange where they held court. You might even “suspect” where the bones of the Hound of Ulster lay after it was slain by the Warrior-god Cú Chulainn. Manannán mac Lir (who opened the way to Tir na nOg for the Tuatha De Danann) knew Cú Chulainn so surely the gateway must be somewhere near your house!
Filling your kids heads with myths can be fun. Years ago my daughter wanted to know about her ancestry. I told her about her Irish and Viking ancestors. She fervently started reading about all the myths and legends. She read about Gullinbursti, a Dwarven made magic glowing Boar that walks on water. Whilst visiting a cousins farm my brother and I painted a pig with florescent paint and put it on a floating pallet in the middle of large pond. We took my daughter and my nephew down to the pod that night telling them that the Oak and Ash trees nearby allowed elves, fairies and other creatures to ‘come through’. Well 3 years later the toothfairy and santa are gone but they still can’t explain seeing Gullinbursti.
@warzan it not often you managle a name but the Art Critic was Brian Sewell
Just a children’s novel? You should present this story world to Studio Ghibli. It will be glorious.
Gamer dad stories are still my favorite show segments.
@warzan I might want to take your map and explore the countryside for my stay after the bootcamp.
Having a pay-per-issue model for Reroll is an interesting idea at first glance. But what audience do you want to reach this way? Frontstagers are probably better off signing up for Backstage and getting Reroll + all the other content along with it. People that are not into BoW (yet) might see no use for the magazine at all.
Happy sunday Beasts and fellow Backstgers!
According to Reroll I’d just enjoed it for what it is. A great executed summary of last month. Visually appealing and a nice to read. Is there a need to make it a tool to lure more Backstagers in. I don’t think so. But if it does, it is cool and a good thing too. But I like it, for what it is and how it looks and works right now. Without any further intentions but just to entertain us as a community just a bit more. Hope my words make sense to you. 🙂
Cheers
This is the crux of my point. If Re-Roll can be put together without much of a time expenditure, then it doesn’t need to lure in new Backstagers. If it’s taking up time, though, then it needs to justify the time spent on it.
Great xlbs folks. Really like the idea of the alternative worlds Warzan, think I’ll do that with my 3 girls. Might even start today and combine it with a little Pokemon go!
Have a great week all.
Thanks for the button again, @brennon ‘s charitable deed of the month 🙂
@warzan the flags are decals (got some Welsh flag ones too), if anyone could paint a 2mm x3mm union jack they deserve all the golden buttons, if anyone can do a Welsh flag at that size they deserve to be burned as a witch 🙂 (maybe a Romain vs John paint CHALLENGE! 😛 )
I’ll be making one of the lord inquisitor blimps at some point (one of the single balloon ones), Trying to work out how to do the stand/flying base for it.
Why do I suddenly have an urge to go kit bash and make a Rabbit and Trout men model???
I have to say I liked Re-Roll. The part that I find most useful in the one where it links to different Threads in the forum. Just never get a chance over their most days so being able to get some links to the good ones in most helpful.
Great job on the opening and the the shout-out to @unclejimmy . Well done. 😀 I have to to say, I really, really like this new, inward-focused look at the community on XLBS, with the looks at the comments, Golden Buttons, etc. Seriously, a very positive development. Keep it up! 😀
I second that @oriskany
I have to agree with @oriskany, this new focus is a great new direction, makes me want to engage with the community more.
The community aspect of the site isn’t even necessarily a priority for me, and yet i too think that these are good developments.
@warzan I have downloaded and did a quick skimming of ReRoll and I am very impressed with it, as soon as time frees up it will be thoroughly consumed.
The best part of it for me is that it reminds me of the articles I looked at and skimmed meaning to go back to but forgot due to all the daily activities that have to be done on a daily basis.
Great job on it.
Thanks
Warren
First and foremost, this is not any form of attack. I am with @warzan on the base thing. I understand @yavasa and @oriskany that these are playing pieces for a game, but coming from purely a collectors point of view, these are also pieces of art. I don’t understand why someone would put a lot of time and effort into sculpting these pieces, then a purchaser spend a lot of time putting it together and painting it they way they want, decorating the base they want, then doing something to completely distract the eye from all the work that was put into the creation of the pieces. If it was that integral to the game, why would the creators not have come up with something on their end? ( not sarcasm, actual question)
I have literally no idea @nsorge. I believe it might increase the price or something? Maybe they left the topic open for people to mark the stuff the way they want it to be marked? I do see the collectors view. I collect a lot of miniatures made for games that I do not play because there are no people interested in them in the local gaming club or simply because I do not want to play the game. However, from a collectors perspective it is my understanding that I trim the collection to my liking and since I am collecting miniatures that are not pre-paints I can paint them in whatever manner that I like because it is my collection. If I want to share my collection with a wider audience it is normal that some people might NOT like it and criticize it. Yet, I collect mostly to play, not display. I share some stuff here and on my blog so that I can get some constructive criticism when it comes to the paint job that I have done. If be coincidence people also like it I am glad. If not, well hey I might improve 😉
@yavasa please don’t think that I am criticizing Your paint job. I am glad to see anyones works posted. I was speaking on the base thing in a general statement as I have seen it several other places as well. I like what you have done on the model and appreciate the effort you have put into it.
@yavasa I concur your paint job was lovely (Hence the golden button) my talk about the bases is more to do with companies could perhaps come up with a more elegant solution if it’s required for the game 🙂
@nsorge Relax man. I did not take your remarks as criticizing my job. 😉 Even if you would have been criticizing it is your right not to like and I’m ok with that.
@warzan No hard feelings man. Just wanted to stir up the discussion and it seems it was a success 😉 I was thinking about it and I do not have a clear solution in mind for the base issue. For example, if you would make a small cut as a company through the middle of the base it would mean that someone would have to glue/pin the model in a given place. So it would not be fancy. One can also mark the bases by just painting two small lines. Still imho it would be a marking. So, is there a way to make the rules more friendly? It was nicely done in BattleTech, but in an era of round bases this hexagonal ones would not stand the test, I believe. Hmmm…
How about encorporating it into the base decoration itself when you come to base it somehow? Eg have a few discarded weapons or a couple of skulls or whatever to denote the points? Or if you have it based for inside a dungeon or temple or the like you could work something into the pattern of the tiles or have a drainage ditch to be the line; or for an urban environment you could have the mini stepping onto/off a pavement and use the kerb to denote the line (similarly in a rural environment you could have half the base be grass and half road, coastal could be half water half beach, etc).
The trick though would be to balance it so it’s noticeable, but not so noticeable that it distracts you from the mini.
That is a nice idea @lordofuzkulak 🙂 As you say the thing must be done in a subtle way because you can end up with bases that are spit in half. Yet, it is the best idea I have heard so far imho.
@lordofuzkulak : Nice idea to incorporate the arc in the base. I have to give this a try.
Happy Sunday guys!
For Re-Roll, i agree with what @redben said and for my personal tastes, i liked the kickstarter watchlist (always usefull as a reminder) and John’s Paint scheme; i always like having more painting tips and take away from them what i can. I also liked the layout and the community quotes!
@warzan : do give us updates on that fun rpg world of yours.
See you next weekend
I dipped in to Reroll days ago, and I think it’s awesome!
Now, I will have a nice, warm bath and read about the shiny stuff from last month. Life is good….
On the topic of why gaming minis are more expensive then Historical ones I have to say its comes down to the fact that most game companies know that the models they are going to use will not last forever. As in they will have to completely redesign those models/molds every so many years so they have to plan that in to the price point.
If scale models are so popular and thereby more cost effective on a scale basis, then why not just make wargaming miniatures to scale?
both Warlord and plastic soldier company did make properly scaled minis and both came under criticism for them, mostly due to the fragile nature of the parts or in the case of PSC the complaint was realistic proportions looked unrealistic and too small compared to “heroic” scaled minis of the same scale. Vehicles are less of an issue but even there a realistic machine gun is going to come a cropper in next to no time, while a chunky gaming piece will suffer more abuse.
A shame. I’d very much like to see true to scale come into the fantasy and sci-fi genres.
Justin is right. Soon our kids will be walking around their neighborhood with their phones and they will see the stone giant come to life on their phone. And solve a riddle or something do go past. It won’t be the same as making it up with their dads but not every dad has a great imagination. This will become the new way of role playing. Maybe it will go so far as that the DM can put his own minions on the map at different locations for the party to find and fight.
I agree that Campaign Cartographer is a bit wonky at best. But once you get a hold on the program itself, it works out greatly. I have used it for years, though these days I tend to just free hand sketch my maps.
great work guys love the new stuff great work on the maps @warzan
For the base and arch question, the solution might be to have it slot into a larger base to hide the markings
I suppose that would be used for taking pictures with the bigger base removed for play when they need to be visible @rasmus ?
Hey Warren,
Your idea sounds like what I did with my brothers while growing up.
It was a lot of fun and we still talk about it. In fact we’ve been writing little webcomic drafts for it as well.
I hope you enjoy that experience with your kiddies.
I’m very glad you decided to produce Re-Roll. It fills the niche that I had hoped that the American version of Ravage would fill (but didn’t). I want a magazine that covers the full spectrum of the miniatures gaming hobby. The magazine format is more portable and convenient than an online format, and I definitely discover items in the magazine that I miss on the web-site. Please keep up the great work!
It was quite the coincidence seeing @warzan bringing up the map of the coast as just a few days ago I was looking at that same area as the wife and I are visiting Ireland in a few weeks and were looking at things to do if we decided to rent a car and drive up, from Dublin, to the Giant’s Causeway. Might just go with a tour group though as I was traumatized driving around Wales as I’m not that good with a manual transmission. Stalling every time I got to the top of a hill didn’t endear me to the locals.
happy sunday, good show but what I just watched?
hehehh
@warzan I would never guess I would write this but. Warren you inspired me! as a father of 4 year old I really enjoy your side projects of getting little ones in to gaming. we did a little treasure hunts and I do make up a little stories. I dont have such a great imagination like you but things like home riders and things like borrowers or Epic kids movie help.
now I will cobbled together all the little stories I made up from around place we live together in to some adventure quests on walks. cheers mate.
For the bases with some stuf that indicate the front of the miniature you can give a look at the new stuff from Mercs 2.0 , all their bases got some carved line in the base so you know exactely what is the front of the mini and we can only put a little bit of paint in the carved line so it will not put to mutch paint on the bases that disguised the miniature ,
Looks very cool! Very nice maps. And I’d love for you to adopt me @warzan! (I should not complain, I got a lot of history input growing up, not much fantasy though.) Would be interested to see how this worked for scifi, I wanna do a Kill Team campaing, would be cool to have it with a map etc. Create extra immersion!
Steve Jackson Games is doing a kick starter for a Dungeon crawl RPG box set, Dungeon Fantasy. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/847271320/dungeon-fantasy-roleplaying-game-powered-by-gurps?ref=user_menu
It might be a bit advanced for your little ones, but I think this could be perfect for Justin and Dragons.

Another great show guys and on the topic of bearded ladies, you have to watch “The Vampires Apprentice.” The very gorgeous and sexy Salma Hayek plays the bearded lady in Freak Show Circus.
@warzan I’ve been doing something similar with my little girl although we’ve (well me) have been hand drawing the map as we keep developing areas as our stories progress.
Great stuff as always guys!
Read the authors intro to Watership Down (Book or Audiobook). It began as a story told for his kids about a nearby place they visited….
Ah HELL 🙂 – I didn’t notice the Lord Inquisitor had an Irish accent till you lot said! – “T’ree Centuries?”
Irish Annals are full of weird things. They had a medieval lake-monster problem up near Larne/Islandmagee.
