Angel Giraldez Masterclass Book Up For Pre-Order February 2nd!
January 27, 2015 by brennon
Pre-orders for Angel Giraldez's Masterclass Volume I: Painting Miniatures From A to Z using a bunch of Infinity miniatures will be going up for pre-order on February 2nd 2015! This is going to be a limited run and once it's gone it's gone so if you want one you better be quick...
As you can see as well as the book if you pre-order you'll also be able to get your hands on a limited edition version of Joan of Arc for PanOceania and we've got some awesome images of her here done by the talented hand of Angel...
An awesome looking miniature and something that I'm sure a lot of people will want to get their hands on. You can see more examples of Angel's work in the video trailer above and as we said, keep an eye out for this hitting pre-orders very soon indeed next week on Monday.
Will you be learning from the master?
"This is going to be a limited run and once it’s gone it’s gone so if you want one you better be quick…"
"If you pre-order you’ll also be able to get your hands on a limited edition version of Joan of Arc"

I am totaly excited for that book, dont get me wrong.
But this artifical limited is quite useless.
I would understand it if the miniature is limited, but why the whole book?
As the 2nd of february is a preorder he will get quite a good feedback how many he should print and he doesnt run into any risks that he has invested in not selling product….
Even if its sold out it means there is market out there who would glady buy more than the limited first run.. does it make it sense?
Because that is a personal project, not backed by CB or Vallejo, the print run numbers are about as many as you would expect from an individual to be able to pay for.
It is not artificial, its how things are.
He’s endorsed by AV. Their logo is on the front of the book. Of course they part-funded this.
Got my preorder in at wayland already.
I have to say, I bought it just for the painting information, but that Joan of Arc is stunning. It is so much better than the two I already have, especially in the face, brilliant sculpt.
I am ready for this!
It’s up for pre-order at lots of places right now! I’ve got mine ordered 🙂
Ordered and excited.
Do pre-orders outside of Infinity store get the miniature? If so, what sites should I go to? All of my usual gaming sites don’t seem to have the book listed and my LGS won’t get getting any in stock.
The stores I’ve seen with it up for pre-order are advetising it with the mini.
Thanks. I’ll keep looking for it. I’d rather a guaranteed pre-order than waiting for it to sell out on the Infinity site.
Funny thing is, I never really paid attention to it before now. Looking at some of the minis… they are quite nice.
I’ve just ordered one. I don’t think for a moment that I’m a proficient enough painter to be able to make the most of tutorials at such a high level but I would love to be proved wrong! Nothing ventured eh!
I’ll absolutely be buying a copy.
Thanks for the heads up, just ordered a copy
Just ordered a copy? How? Where?
I wonder what volume 2 will be?
I will likely get this
and I think it’s a great concept for a book
but there’s a small part of me that acknowledges that Angel is a talented genius – he paints circles around so many – it’s like a Michelangelo book on how to sculpt… which tickles me a little 🙂
This will be the go-to book for helping to teach painting for many years.
Need this book although I’m a little dubious about ordering from Wayland.
I pre-ordered N3 from Wayland. It got sent out a day later than some other stores were sending it but they upgraded the shipping to priority courier for free to make up for the printing delay.
Do they not have the best reputation then? This is the first thing I’ve ordered from them.
I’m only going off what I’ve read on BoW about Wayland and to be fare its only been two or three threads over the years but its been enough for me to be as I say “dubious”, having said that you don’t hear from the 1000’s of people that get their stuff on time do you, so…….
I avoided using them until they installed live stock levels on their website a couple of years ago. Before then you were taking pot luck as to whether they had what you were ordering. I hear occasionally of people ordering an item that is showing as in stock and it not being, but I’ve ever experienced that. Most of the issues arise from their practice of marking items as “Available” when it means they have to order it in. It catches people out who think available means they have it. Their communication also used to be poor but they installed a help desk system which usually responds the same day and I’ve noticed they’ve recently started sending out automated emails if your order is being held up by out of stock items. And like I say, when a printing delay meant N3 wasn’t going to ship until a few days before Christmas, they upgraded the shipping on my order from standard to priority courier for free.
I think Wayland had a hard time with the Infinity Icestorm box, because demand ended up being so great, that Wayland weren’t given the stock (they were promised?) in the first place, which in turn led to delays.
I think, in general though, you are fine if you order from Wayland. If you are looking for alternatives in the UK, then you can try Element Gaming (they are incredibly quick as getting stuff to you), although in the case of pre-ordering this book, it looks like you’re out of luck as it looks to be unavailable (from Element Gaming).
Well I’ve bitten the bullet redben and Wayland have my money.
Was waiting a long time for this! glad to see it here.
Pre-ordered from Warstore, the postage to Australia was worth not missing out in my opinion
yep did the same thing mate.
annnnnnd ordered. I’ve got a lot of Infinity and Relic Knights to paint in the coming months this will be the perfect companion guide.
Pre-ordered.
This is an absolute ‘Must Have’ for anyone who takes their painting remotely seriously.
I’ve been super hyped for this ever since the book was announced, as someone that isn’t able to freely attend seminars across the world due to finances and work this book is a god send.
Hopefully and knowing angel if this book is half as detailed as his painting, and given his personality from what I’ve seen you can almost guarantee a meticulous level of detail in what this book will show.
The model is also nice. I didn’t even know that it came with it. An added bonus.
Thanks for the heads up guys. Got mine pre ordered. Now for the hard part..
Waiting.
Anyone know how long we will be waiting?, its been five min’s and I’m already getting inpatient;)
I ordered from wayland and they say 1st march. They tend to be pretty accurate with pre-orders, operation icestorm aside and that was largely out of their hands.
Thanks but thats like a month away, oh well I’ll forget all about it and it will be a pleasant surprise when it turns up;)
haha I love it when that happens
That is a superb looking mini!
Definitely going to order this … not sure if I have to wait till Monday as others say they’ve ordered from Wayland. I’m in the US, does anyone know of a domestic (US) distributor that’s taking pre-orders?
Thanks!
I pre-ordered via The War Store. First time ordering from them, but I couldn’t find any other US seller (including my usuals) that carried the book.
Thanks! I looked at WarStore (twice now) and cannot locate. I can wait a few more days, but it seems strange that the warstore had it at some point but no longer. Maybe they maxxed out their preorders…
Anyway, I appreciate the help!
Third time was a charm!
http://www.thewarstore.com/product100509.html
No it wasn’t …. no longer available. 🙁
At least I now know why I couldn’t find it.
I ordered this from Wayland the other day. The only other thing i’ve ever ordered from them was a pre-order for Icestorm.
This book should be worth buying in it’s own right, but the Joan of Arc figure is the icing on the cake. It’s fecking gorgeous, and just what my PanO needs. 😀
I ordered it from Wayland the other day but the order has been canceled with no email saying so.
So might be worth checking the statues
Did they say why the order was cancelled? Currently mine is still showing as active.
I didn’t get anything from them just looked on my account by chance and it has been cancelled :/
Ordered! Have been so looking forward to this becoming available, now just need to get my hands on this book.
Promise I am not mindlessly hitting ‘refresh; on the Corvus Belli webstore right now…
Damn webpage at Corvus Belly. I started to try and get the book the second they release the preeorder. Clicking and clicking that damn add to cart and that cart was still showing empty all the time even if i tryied to pre-order. I even changed the ammount of books to see if that would help but nothing. And 19 minutes laater after i started it was saying this item is out of stock. GREAT!! I am so pissed now.
Get onto the custommeeple website
sold out quicker than I could blink on a non responsive site. Talk about fustrating and furious, thats me at the mo. Amazing how a book can sell out when its a pre order. arrrgfhahghha.
Have to go sit in my corner and calm down. :[
There are more books being sold by Custom Meeple. Unfortunately the website has cracked under the traffic. They’ll be making an announcement on their FB when it is up and running again.
Thats the exact reason why I asked via the first post why the limited run?
Right now there are people willing to buy the book….
So I would say with nowadays “printing on demand”-options I would highly reconsider doing a 2nd print-run maybe without the miniature
And the answer is the same. This is a pet project of Angel’s, not a business decision. He’s done all the work on the book himself (in his spare time) and funded the production. Once it’s done, it’s done. If he was running a business then his considerations would have been different. I do think it was unwise to say it’ll never be reprinted, though it was fair enough to say this is the print run and there may never be another one.
Corvus Belli as a company took the responsability by teasing people for weeks.
Now you have a large majority of Infinity Fans disappointed by the fact that first, the server crashed and then when the problem got fix 30 seconds after it was all ready sold out !!!
Fair point I have to admit.
But one detail is the problem with your argument:
The close relation to Infinity makes the demant much higher.
Would it have been a painter book of a generic high end painter the “once print and never again”-statement would have been ok for me.
But with the a extreme big tt-fan-base in the background (and especially for these the book is helpful and in generall the book about) the limited run might be as a frustration-boomerang for Infinty.
So I really hope we see a solution for this unhappy situation
Pre Order ???
What a joke !!
I try to, but first the server went down and then it was sold out in 30 seconds ???
Teasing people for weeks and not be able to managed a sell online what a shame !!!
Hope that they will release a PDF version !!!
Big FAN of “INFINITY” but I am really disappointed, and I am not the only one !!!!!
the custommeeple website ???
Crashed !!
So Unprofessional !!!
Really disappointed that this was such a limited run. Hoping there will be another one.
I understand the people that say it’s a pet project and he can do what he wants … but part of the utility of pre-orders is it gives you a month (in this case) to then do another run at the printers.
As this whole event started to pan out, I admit I went from desperate to get a copy, to thinking the book could have been sold ten times over. I know it was a personal venture by Angel, but the massive hype by Corvus Belli, and to some extent sites like this one, were certain to produce such a massive demand that the “sell out” was inevitable.
I knew it was going wrong when Wayland games had to withdraw the pre-order (as did other sites). I must have been obvious that there would be massive over-subscription.
Look out for the book on ebay as a ridiculous price in the next few weeks!
I think people have been badly let down by Corvus Belli in particular, and they need some serious PR to square this with their thousands of customers. A PDF version in an interesting compromise.
Very unhappy at the moment.
Bummer … appears to be sold out. I guess it wasn’t meant to be. 🙁
yes this has been nothing but a exercise in frustration for me. I thought I would support covus belli and order from them big mistake. got up early been refreshing the site all day only to see it go from coming soon to no stock instantly. pretty annoyed both with CB and all the sites that were selling it days early, very frustrating. I understand angel funded this himself but for god sake man you could have gone to kick starter or even sold the books directly before getting them printed. That way you could have printed exactly how many you needed plus a few and it wouldn’t have cost you a penny as they would have been paid for upfront. all in all it seems to be a right c**k up and unfortunately covrus belli deserved or not are getting a lot of the blame.
My final comment on this PR disaster.
I’m glad that we still have the most fantastic “resource” here with the videos of Romain. Although the book would have been nice, to see a master SHOW you not only what but HOW to do something is worth more than a “coffee book”.
I think Angel should have thought this through netter especially given the massive plugs on sites like BoW, and as others have said, could easily have set up a deal with a printer based on the actual buys. I suspect he could have sold the book five times over without blinking.
Hold your horses ! I’m flattered, but really, there’s no competition between a book and a video… two different painters, two different mediums, two different uses. I’m glad you consider me a master, but clearly i’m not that good ! 🙂
It’s most definitely not a PR distaster : everyone still is talking about it… There will be more books printed, of course, and possibly reprints, especially if so many people want to buy it ! The release date is still further away.
The whole thing was JUST a test run, a pre-order, as I understand it.
There was no “mistake” or technological mishap from Corvus Belli as far as I can tell, just certain individual computers are slower, and there was a LOT of people on the website at that time. The books on pre-order (and it might not be the total run) were all sold in 30 seconds.
I didn’t even get one… I simply could not be there the second the thing opened. I’m not sad about it : they will undoubtedly print more, just not on pre-order. That’s all.
If there’s really this much demand (and I see no reason to think otherwise), then I would say that a second print run doesn’t seem out of the question. Just a bit of speculation though.
I would have to agree its been a pr Disaster for CB. It might not have been so bad if all the retailers sites hadn’t start selling earlier than the pre order date on the CB website. I have a great deal of respect for angel talent as an artist but it would appear he could have done with some advice on this one, especially regarding the distribution.
I read somewhere he wanted to do the project for the hobbyists…..well mr Giraldez if that’s true then the hobbyists need to be able to get hold of it…..if they cant well then it becomes little more than a vanity project.
Apparently if the sales go above 5500 there are tax implications which make it not worthwhile doing for Angel.
ok, this would be a fair argument of him.
Not good for many, but a fair point of view of aperson who has to calculate prices
That may well be true, I don’t know much about the tax system in spain. I expect though its similar to most places where with the right advice the tax systems impact could be minimised. Its possible he just totally underestimate the demand, I am sure he had his reasons.
However whatever the reasons the result has been a lot of frustrated and disappointed people around the world. Sadly due to the appearance of this being a corvus belli infinity release and the big advert on their site saying the pre order started today combined with retailers selling early and websites crashing it has become a bit of a disaster.
I don’t know which I am more disappointed in not getting the miniature or the book 😛
I do not care about the miniature so much as i did about the book. I wanted it a lot and now that it is sold out even if i was trying to get a book from the first second the book was released in the webstore i will just get it on PDF when it comes out and print it out. I wanted the real deal tho and was going to pay for it also. But after all this hype and all the talk about the about the book they just released 5000 copies worldwide (and there are more hobbyist then that in the world that loves to paint and wants to improve their talent). Taxes or not. If he wanted to go around the tax issue he could have made a deal with Corvus Belli now that they sell more then that when it comes to infinity i assume.
I have to agree with Ranir, I was really hyped about this book. As much as I love romans tutorials there is something about a book that I prefer add that its about infinity miniatures I really wanted it. I haven’t been that excited about a hobby release for more than a decade. The thing that really bites is despite waking up early refreshing the site constantly at work I had no chance it was sold out before the official pre order date come round. The websites playing up was just a final boot to family jewels.
I have been excited by infinity n3 and planned to order the rulebook and ice storm this weekend, now I just feel deflated with the whole thing bolt action may get my money instead.
I hope Angel does a reprint…
Even if I would own one copy (which I hopefully will do) I wouldnt be dissapointed/embarresed of the “not so limited” decision.
The only person who would get pissed of are the people who planed to sell the books with a 200% profit…..so Angel please make exactly that people cry 😀
I have been pumped for this book since it was first talked about! I’ve followed it every step of its journey and waited for this day. But then it ends like this……
After all of these shenanigans I don’t care to hear about this book ever again.
I hope the boys of BoW do not drone on about this book, that it seems no one who is a true hobbyist, was able to get their hands on.
Why talk about a book we can’t hold in our hands and follow along with. It will only serve to remind us of this debacle.
I for one will refuse to buy any copy that shows up at a later date at an inflated price. I can only hope that the folks or businesses that sucked up all the copies hoping to stick it to the true hobbyist will end up eating the extra copies.
I’m not sure I can look at my Infinity collection now without feeling like I’ve been bamboozled…..
What a bitter taste this has left behind.
Whilst I’m not counting any chickens, I placed a pre-order with Wayland last week and as of yet it’s still active. I resent the implication that I am not a true hobbyist. I have attended a painting seminar with Angel and was at his event to announce the book. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this just like everyone else and placed the pre-order as soon as I was able to. I even posted a thread here to let people know it was available to pre-order.
you can argue its good for business to create the hype – but when it turns into frustrating disappointment – that will overshadow whatever else the rest of that business does.
Underprinting in a way to you sell out in about a minute, thats not keeping it limited, thats not understanding your own product :/
This is a clear critical Fumble on the PR chart.
I could, but I won’t, because Angel isn’t a business. He’s a guy doing a pet project in his own time who printed the maximum print he was able to whilst keeping it a pet project and not being a business.
I’m not sure that argument holds any more mate, Corvus got involved for sales, distro, produced a limited run miniature for it and have used it as a promotional item for Infinity.
You can be not sure all you want but it doesn’t change the fact that this is his pet project. CB helping distributing it doesn’t make it a CB project. Angel did all the work in his spare time and paid for it all himself. Now if the success of the book makes CB decide to produce their own version then great, but they didn’t do this book.
With all this going on about everyone that did not be able to get the book and has complained (including me). I feel sorry for Angel. He must be feeling really low after all the harsh comments about this and i guess he wishes that he would have made this different or not at all (It is not just here on BoW the comments are harsh but also on CB forum that i have seen).
It is a risk you take when you make a project like this in a limited number and when it gets so hyped by so many hobby sites and people stand there without a product he made and are frustrated cuz they were waiting for it. I would really like to give Angel a hug and tell him comforting things.
But this is how it is now and i hope he dosen’t lose his passion as a painter of minis.
It nit only here people are peeved about this all across the interwebs. I think a lot of the problem was the way it was presented to the public as if it was a cb infinity release with an official date to start pre orders. When it was in fact a angel project with tiny print run that not only could be ordered before that date on the cb site, if you were a mug like me and waited to buy from cb believing that to be the offical channel to buy from you had no chance of getting one. Sadly what could have been an amazing product has turned into a bit of an own goal.
Well in a bid to cheer myself up i have done what every wargamer over thirty loves to do…..i have found a way to blame games workshop lol.
After their recent marketing plan if selling everything ad limited edition or release and the printing half a million of the darn things which are the generally available for a good while when you see a company like CB say limited runs your brain doesn’t see that as we have ten copies to sell but rather we have 100000 copies.
See all gw’s fault
Guys, really… They will reprint ! If at all possible, they would LOVE to make money, you know ! This was JUST a pre-order. And clearly NOt a PR distaster if everyone is talking about it and is still going to buy it if possible…
Was up after midnight the day before in hope they would release it and went up early in hope I hadn’t missed it. As the majority it was impossible to get it when the pre-order started :P. The site crashed and it didn’t work to pre-order. After 30 seconds it was sold out :P. I love Angels Art and his work. But I have waited so long for this and it got me disappointed. I am more of a hobbyist.. much more than a gamer! And i love to paint! So this was a really big thing for me and many others. A really good way to develop painting even further. And by an artist that is so great and beloved! No one have that cool style as Angel has. And as he said he maid it for the hobbyist’s! But the Hobbyist’s had to claw and fight for it. It wasn’t a easy thing as, you can pre-order it that time that day. But it was completely made out of Luck! If you were lucky enough, the sites would work for you and if you are even more lucky you can click the Pre order button!! It was like a dice roll with reeeaaally bad odds against you. I was keeping an eye on it the whole day throughout the sites and on Angels FB. There was barely any updates or anything. So the whole thing felt just like there was no care. And there was so many complaints. A whole bunch of people that were disappointed. I hope that if they really care about the hobbyists they would also make more effort into making a second print or a print after demand. It was too much hype and time for such a release with so few units with so impossible odds. I still love Angels art and so on, but as a fan and hobbyist this made me really sad and destroyed my day. And with so many other.
I’ve asked on his Studio Giraldez page where things stand with remaining stock levels and future availability of the book. I would imagine we’ll hear something on the matter anyway, hopefully sometime soon, but I figured it was worth asking the question.
He says custommeeple still have some stock and he has some he’ll be selling on his website next week, but once they are gone there’ll be no more copies of the book made.
And definitely no PDF either.
That’s both a shame and completely stupid from Angel and Corvus Belli… There are many such books about miniature painting printed in France and elsewhere, and they always reprint and sell well…
As far as I’m aware the decision is entirely Angel’s. Corvus Belli’s culpability extends to putting their name on it and making the mini.
Well, I’ve sent a message to Angel as well… I hope his artistic humility isn’t the culprit, although I suspect it is…
To my mind nobody is going to do a huge print run for what is a minority topic. I doubt the printers would have agreed unless the whole amount was paid up front. Much better to do a small/medium print first off to judge popularity then do a second release quite quickly after that
Found this example on the web
What does it cost to self publish a book?
The costs of self-publishing with YPS are less than you might expect
We will provide an initial quotation based on your specification. If you need help deciding your specification, we will be happy to discuss this with you.
Here´s an example of the costs for publishing of a novel of 60000 words.
Specification
The novel is 70000 words and the publisher wishes to print 250 copies. We estimate the book will have 250 pages in B Format (198mm deep by 126mm wide). Full colour cover with gloss laminated finish. Text pages to be printed black and white. Perfect bound paperback.
Edit and design costs
This includes all aspects of layout and design for both text and cover, from receipt of the manuscript to print-ready files. This is a one-off cost and would not need to be paid again when the book is reprinted.
Printing and binding costs
Printing and binding 250 copies. Total cost for publishing 250 copies – £1,395
See my comment above : no matter, I see such books printed regularly. They sell.
I do hope it gets reprinted. However i doubt it will because its apparent that angel wants to keep it to only the 5500 copies. I am sure he has his reasons and maybe the demand will encourage him to reconsider.
Btw elromanozo….any chance you have a book up your sleeve. I watch as many of your tutorials as i can. I really enjoy them and they have helped me a lot. Thank you.
I have none at all, and I am not inclined to buy it if it’s going to be a limited print.
It seems like there is no Sign of him reconsidering. I can’t see why when so many hobbyists really wants this book and what I think would be a asset to print and sell more of them.
The worst part about all of this is thinking that there are people out there who would not have bought the book without the miniature. I don’t think the demand would have been so high if it weren’t for that. =(
I wonder when the first one will appear on ebay?
probably already has

They’ve had 150 applications so far so are not taking any more.
Though Angel has confirmed that the book is not sold out. It’s just that the individual stores and companies who have made it available so far have sold out of their allocations. It looks like the whole Feb 2nd pre-order thing was deeply misleading to a lot of people.
CB told me on Feb 2nd, in email, that all copies were sold out.
All of CB’s copies have sold out. This isn’t a CB book, though. It’s Angel’s book and he gave some of the copies to CB. They put them up for pre-order on Feb 2nd and they all sold out. Angel still has copies of his own and he’s confirmed today that the book is not sold out..
I’m so confused. CB posted before that they were the only place that it would be sold at and it didn’t start until Feb 2nd. at 12:30 CET. Was this false?
All that aside, I did download the PDF that was posted earlier from Custommeeple . Filled it out and submitted it.
I’ve heard nothing back.
Is there a list of other sellers that I can check with?
Thanks for at info…..
I ordered mine from Wayland on Jan 27th so that definitely wasn’t correct. There were a bunch of other online retailers who had it up fro sale last week too. Then CB on Monday and Custommeeple today. They’ve replied to some people who have asked on the FB whether they were successful with their application so it might be worth asking there. When I asked Angel yesterday, he said there was the Custommeeple stock still to sell, which has now happened, and he had stock he’d be selling himself next week. The print run was 5500 and Custommeeple only had 100 copies, so it seems like it’s been spread round quite a lot.
@elromanoza Its a shame you don’t fancy publishing a book to help teach your techniques.
I really enjoy the video tutorials but I guess I am old fashion and prefer the feel of a book.
I am looking forward to the next part of the Japanese skin tone video.
If anyone finds a somewhere which still has copies of angels book, please post a link.
Latest update from Angel –
“During these days I’ve read all your comments, messages, opinions on facebook, twitter, blogs, forums, etc….
Your opinions are very important for me.
This book was a dream but also I’ve written this book for all followers so this weekend I’ll take a decision about my book.”
Very interesting perhaps he has been surprised by the demand. I do feel for him he is in a difficult position.
I for one would like to see a second print run. However if he does go for that he has the problem if guessing how much unmet demand there is so he does get stuck with unsold stock. Also his personal finances what with the spainish tax system. If he doesn’t do a second printing a lot of people remain dissapointed. As much as i dislike digital books perhaps a future digital release would be the safe option.
It sold out within a minute of being put on the website.
Angel has announced there’ll be a second printing. I’ve posted his full statement on the forums where explains the reasons for the 5500 print run and for the second printing.
Which forum, and thanks!
The News & Rumours section and the Infinity section of the forums here at Beasts of War. It’s since been posted on a news item on the front page as well.
