Archon Share Founder’s Edition Set Details For StarCraft Wargame!
January 20, 2026 by brennon
A recent livestream from the folks at Archon Studio gave an insight into the soon-to-be-released StarCraft: Tabletop Miniatures Game. A Founder's Edition launch is just around the corner, giving you a chance to get your hands on the Terran, Zerg and Protoss for your Sci-Fi clashes on the tabletop.
2-Player Starter Box - Founder's Edition // StarCraft
The biggest reveal of the livestream was the massive 2-Player Starter Box coming out for StarCraft, which contains two huge armies for you to dive right into the game. This will be limited to the pre-order period (more on that later) but it effectively works as a full-on game in a box, so you can start playing right out of the box.
Inside, you'll get two 1000-point armies, which is enough to play your small-format games, covering both the deadly threat of the Zerg and the heavily armoured Terrans. This set also comes with a bunch of terrain, dice, tokens, a gaming mat and all of the other gubbins that you need to play your games of StarCraft on the tabletop.
The miniatures inside will come in coloured plastic for you to assemble and glue together. Blue for the Terrans and purple for the Zerg. Some elements of the miniatures will also be clear plastic, so you could just play with them as they come or give them a quick wash and they'd be ready to go. You could, of course, paint them fully as you can see above.
This is going to be a limited product as it's quite expensive for Archon to manufacture. There won't likely be another two-player starter set exactly like this in the future but some smaller version might come out.
The second of the big Founder's Edition sets is for the third StarCraft faction, the Protoss.
1-Player Protoss Starter Box - Founder's Edition // Starcraft
Again, this comes with a set of coloured plastic miniatures but you won't get the additional terrain that you saw in the 2-Player Starter Set. View this as an additional bolt-on to the main starter set, so you could get another friend into playing the game with the Protoss!
As well as sharing the Founder's Edition boxes and what's coming in terms of initial sets for the game, Archon also shared a roadmap where they put together the route that the game will take after its launch.
Roadmap // StarCraft
So, we're looking at the big Founder's Edition sets that will be followed by Faction Starter Boxes for each of the Terrans, Zerg and Protoss later on down the line. This will then be bolstered by Unit Boxes for expansion units, taking you beyond those initial 1000-point lists. You will also note waves of additional releases and more coming to support the game throughout 2026.
You can check out more details from the livestream by watching the video below...
AMA // Starcraft: Tabletop Miniatures Game
It's not long to wait until the StarCraft: Tabletop Miniatures Game hits and I know a lot of folks are quite excited for this one. The miniatures are looking great and considering the amount of time that Archon has invested in going back and forth on the rules, I hope they will also manage to hit the nail on the head.
Are you a StarCraft fan waiting to get your hands on this?

Was there any mention of price?
Edit: I just saw: next AMA will have prices. Silly brain
They mentioned that the 2-Player Starter Set might be around $199 in the stream, so it could be a good guide.
A bit steep for me personally for a “nice to have” thing. But as they said in the stream “support your local dealer” so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that there will be a more affordable starter set in the future.
Yeah it seems the other 1-Player Starter Sets will be coming to standard retail – just without all of the extra gubbins. But, knowing Archon, they will be good value as the rest of their stuff usually is.
That is a bit expensive. I might by a couple of models to display but this is definitely not for me.
Sounds right,160 euro or about 140 quid. The foundation set adds the character and their custom unit in. Bringing it to 1000 points aside I believe (2000 being a full game). Not cheap, but favourable compared to other large sci fi games.
Plus archon models are so much nicer to build
OW MUCH!!!
Bit pricey for my tastes especially as its a brand new dive in and find out if its any good and will stick sort of game. That said is that the founders price which includes terrain and some sort of play mat? If so then slightly more palatable but I still think a bit rich for a brand new starter for a brand new game.
If they can get a 2 player starter set out there under £100 then I’d be tempted.
I wonder if any of the faction mechanics from the game will be somehow “tabletop-ified,” like the Protoss’s recharging shields and the Zerg’s Creep?
I would imagine we will see some of that in the mechanics – I am intrigued to see gameplay soon
Definately creep spread is there, not heard about the shields, there are creep tumour models. They have designed it to incorporate the starcraft mechanics, like supply
As much as I don’t need another project I am tempted by these. Archon have done great things with motu battlefields. The mechanics sound interesting and the models great (even if I like the Terran who I thought would be my favourites least).
@dags I recently picked up a mountain of He-Man stuff. It’s harder to find in Canada, so I imagine Archon will have the same problem with StarCraft.
Looks like Archon have done a really nice job here with the minis, and that looks a nice starter set offering, nice to see a neoprene mat included, however i cant say that terrain is particularly inspiring me, not when they have the awesome modular kits in their ranges.
I’d really like to see some gameplay, that would be the thing that would draw me to this the most, can they capture the video games feel (like mantic did with Halo:Flashpoint) and know the prices this will land at, there’s a lot of competing stuff out there and a lot with great starter deals.
