'Tis the season to be gaming! We're all heading off to celebrate Christmas, but before we stuff ourselves full of mince pies (with brandy sauce!) we have a quick chat about the various ways we celebrate the holiday and in what way can we use games to make it even better.
Justin is getting ready to introduce his young nephew to gaming using Star Wars: Destiny, while Sam is heading to the digital realm for the age-old family tradition of being terrible at Crash Bandicoot with his dad.
None of our families are particularly into tabletop games, so we wonder how best can we get the family together for a game without it all ending up in a Monopoly-related trip to A&E.

Going to be teaching the kid brother how to play some kill team and AoS. He might also get enlisted in some Seraphon. Nothing builds character like painting skinks lol.

Been downcutting the collection and many systems also by necessity. Perhaps a bit too much.
I have been working hard on my Age of Sigmar Gutbusters and my Pure Primaris Chapter.
Next year I’ll focus on making an opposing force for each.
Night Lords for the Primaris.
And for the Gutbusters… not sure yet.
I am tempted by Khorne Daemons (easy to paint), Bonesplitterz or Beasts of Chaos.

Sitting around while the family slowly gets drunker and just waiting for the borderline domestic that sends everyone home is not my idea of fun. I’ll make my appearances and slink back off into my cave as soon as possible.
I’ll be sitting down with some Flashman Audiobooks and the rest of my Dust Minis as soon as possible.
At least my local Group isn’t taking a break so I’ll be able to game over the break.

I’m pretty lucky, having a family that enjoys modern board games, so we’ll be playing games from Christmas to over New Year’s. I suspect it’ll be Cthulhu-flavored. Also, my FLGS is moving, doubling its floor space, so I’ll be running games there as well.
Gaming for the next year is looking good.
Getting Heres Negan in so I will be learning that game. Also hoping to get some more work done on my Knights Model Hulkbuster
Rules for 4Ground minis:
1) Keep them away from UV light
2) Don’t get any water on them
3) Never, never ever feed them after midnight

Old people and wargaming – I believe Christopher Lee played Warhammer even into his 80s. Also re: Justin’s you’ll all be listening to metal in your old age, Christopher Lee also headbanger to metal on a daily basis up until he died, and even released multiple metal albums of his own within the last 5 years or so of his life.
Space Truckers – anyone else remember a cartoon series about 15ish years ago that was this? Don’t recall what it was called?
3D sculpts and scaffolds – if you blew them up to a larger scale, then you could use it as a statue and leave the scaffolds on as actual scaffolds around the statue.

Nice “Christmas Review,” knock. The 3D resin printing explanation was spot on. I never realized FW used resin molds that only last about 10 units. That explains why they cancelled so many kits earlier this year.
And for the GW Starter Boxes, the “Start Collecting! Drukhari” kit would tie the odds and ends I have picked up over the years together nicely.

I have been trying to decrease Death Guard back catalog before I get more from under the tree. I have gotten some done but there is still plenty waiting they turn.
Gaming can be tough during the holidays, but I plan on getting alot of painting done.
My gaming will be limited to an evening of party games at a friends tonight, followed by nothing till after Boxing Day, but then hopefully some painting of Malifaux and Carnivalé minis in preparation for the New Year.

The Helsreach animation series by Richard Boylan on youtube is absolutely amazing. Helsreach is one of the best Black Library novels – if not the best.
So much looking forward to Part XIII.

All year long, I’ve been unable to play board games with any regularity with my two sons…I’ve left them with a handful of broken promises (thanks to my crappy-ass job). So to try and make up for it…we’ve planned out Christmas week (I’m off work the whole week!!) and we’re doing a gaming marathon! We’ll be playing Arcadia Quest, Krosmaster, Mechs Vs Minions, Massmora, Blood Rage, Massive Darkness, Sword & Sorcery, Myth and finally Hordes (thanks for the Blighted Ogrun box BoW!!)! Ain’t getting a lot of sleep, but gonna have a lot of fun!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Starting an exculation league for bolt action Caileendeas and six other here in Kent. 500 pts of infantry to start then the sky is the limit(+250pts in feb(750pts),+250(1,000pts)in March)
Points awarded for build/paint/base(finish) the given monthly new armies and at least one game to be played against a different opponent each month.
This will be on top of me starting to DM a new adventure for a different group of friends…..WHAT have I done!!

Funny you should mention Cthulhu for Christmas, this is my gaming group’s 25th year of “Christmas Cthulhu”, you would be amazed at the amount of Christmas themes that fit with the Cthulhu mythos. It had become as important a Christmas tradition with my Gaming “family” as a Christmas tree ( dark young of shubnigurath raising Christmas trees for sale?) and gifts. It is amazing I think to have a gaming tradition that has lasted over 2 decades. Merry Christmas everyone ….I leave you with this

Painting kill team terrain.
Oh being a father of two i will spend christmas day assembling any gifts that need assenbly but as i have off thy e day after as well, i sm hoping to get in some Age of Sigmar withg my mate, or atleast have myself some hobby time. If i some how manage to win one of thg e start collecting boxes i am having a hard timw deciding between getting myself the Skitarii box or getting my mate a start collecting box.
Can’t wait to start going throught my backlog of minis during the xmas « vacations »
For Christmas, I will be practicing my painting skill. I have a pile of Reaper minis that I’ve just primed grey and I’m going to use them for painting practice. The models will end up as D&D pieces.
Working Christmas Eve, alas, and they’d object if I took my painting kit into work, sadly.

Fascinating interview with Ben from 4Ground. Did not back Awaken Realms on Kickstarter myself, but I admire the dedication and enthusiasm that Ben has for the project and miniature wargaming in general.
I did back Dized on Indiegogo last year, however, and solely on the potential of the Scythe tutorial teaser. The free Kingdomino tutorial was good fun – and corrected two basic mistakes we had been making in every game so far.
Finally, good to see Dawn and Genna from the States – and in Christmas jumpers! Oriskany in the comments too.
Missed seeing Lloyd, John, Ben, Cass, Ryan and the other Beasts though.
Apparently, even for plastic, resin, paper and cardboard addicts that we gamers are… It is not what is under the Christmas tree that matters, it is the people gathered around it.

Not sure what I’ll be up to hobby wise, as it will depend upon how successful my hinting has gone down. If I get a chance I will hope to do a bit more on my 8th army Bolt action force. I’ll also be fleshing out my new D&D character ready for the new adventure @commodorerob has install for me and my fellow victims/adventurers.
unfortunately my nephews and neices are at that age when they are starting there own families. Only visit for a few hours if we are lucky and off they go. This holiday i am working on a terrain challenge for Modiphius’s Fallout game. I started project here on OTT to show off the some of the picture i have taken.

Injured my shoulder quite bad so no painting for about 6 months more until all is well again. So will just stare longingly at the grey plastic, and comfort myself with buying more plastic that I cannot paint. At this rate I am saving up a lot of painting projects for my retirement 😛

This Christmas… RuneWars Miniatures, Star Wars Legion, and getting my friend back into 40k with Kill Team! I have Primaris ready to face off against my friend’s Tau Pathfinders. Hoping for a taste of Age of Sigmar, too.

No game plans, but I’ve made plans for next month. A test of honor campaign, a Gas lands demo and a night of Fallout RPG. If I could get a start collecting set I would go for the Sylvaneth since I don’t have any of there models yet.
I plan on painting the models I finally got around to putting together. Then I was going to spend time with the family.
When you say getting started boxes, do you mean Start Collecting?
Lots to choose from if that’s the case, but sadly no Daughters of Kain. I’d probably pick something I can adapt to Kill Team.

I’m afraid that I’ll not be doing much for Christmas. The whole family is in various stages of being sick(the kids, the wife and me). I will try to paint my Infinity Xenotech using a new technique, which if it works as advertised, will hopefully speed up my painting 🙂
Really annoyed I couldn’t jump on the Fabled Realms band wagon as the minis and game itself looks so much fun. Plus I just love the idea of using any minis you have or like the look of.

Great interview with ben. I’m a backer of the Kickstarter but haven’t been following the updates so this was really interesting. Given the huge pile of stuff I have to do, delays don’t worry me in the slightest – especially if the quality is going to be even higher at the end!

Won’t get much gaming in on Christmas this year, but I’ve got 3 weeks off so planning to get in a fair amount of games and hobby before I head back to work. Looking at setting up a larger multi-player game of Chain of Command for New Years Eve to play with my daughter, brother and uncle. The daughter and I are also planning a bit of a hobby marathon to get our 1914 armies painted, based and played with, as well as a few games of Saga and Kings of War.
The brother has been pestering me to get an AoS force together for a while now, I’ve been leaning toward either Karadron Overlords or Seraphon.
more 4Ground is always a good thing. great to see how they are moving forward with fabled realms.
Great to hear from Ben again, gives a very good insight into the parts of the industry that 4ground deal with, glad to hear mention of us late backers to fabled realms too.
HABA has been my go to this xmas for my 4 year old – he loves playing Drecksau, so this xmas will be introducing him into some HABA games, he makes up his own rules currently, but it’s great to be able to use boardgames to help reinforce learning and also really good family time together.
Have asked for the new Orks codex for Christmas, hopeing that will give me the insentive to finish painting my Ork army, have also received my Resident Evil 2 board game Kickstarter but not aloud to open it until Christmas, lastly I brought fireball island as a family presant so looking forward to playing it with the wife and kids after Christmas dinner.

Hanging with my family as they come to the understanding that I don’t want any grown up stuff, I just want more mins!!! I’ll be gifting wifi boosters and wirless mouses. My Christmas holiday will be packed full with Hobby Goodness. A couple games of Axis & Allies Global, Board-games with the kids ( Star Sage, risk and Eclipse). Finish painting my afrikakorps, build the 11 Bolt Action vehicles I bought during the black friday sale and lastly designing and building a belt grinder to speed up sanding of my armour 😀

My gaming group and local club are both on a Christmas hiatus, so I’m planning on making the cellar into a wargaming room – I’ve already waterproofed and dry-walled, got lights up and finished woodwork, so I just may let myself Have a day off tommorrow…. It will be Christmas Day after all. But a big job on boxing day… Tidy the hobby painting room (aka cupboard with a window) so.I can see the carpet in there again. I’ve been putting that off for too long.

We are all ill this christmas. I have a sore throat and my youngest daughter isn´t hearing properly. Sadly that invalidates any plans for family gaming we might have had as she cannot understand anything I am barely able to pronounce. Otherwise christmas is going great.

you lucky devil. I look after my mother, and at christmas my brother and sister come home for dinner. So I was up at 5am prepping the dinner, almost 12 hours in the kitchen. Christmas is shite, I’m glad it’s over. Hope you enjoyed yourself though. You can join Lina and myself next year, the plan is to ignore Christmas and probably just eat McDonalds ^^

Still trying to turn my wife into a board gamer, it a slow process 🙂 My 5 year old daughter loves mouse trap and uno so I have in there – just got to keep her hooked 🙂 I have always wanted some marines so maybe a primaris box? I have been good.

Christmas should mean plenty of hobby, but exams in January are really getting in the way of it.
Still working on finding a table top system that is compelling for the whole family. I still think it can be found.

No hobbying plans though as we are still transitioning. Although I do have to mention the wife got me the Army Painter Mega paint set for Xmas! Awesome!

Belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Great fun as always, and I have to say I did really enjoy castle panic, the wizard tower add-on gave it a lot more life because after a few games you kind of know how to win, so seeing it changed up and various difficulty levels added really helped a lot with replayability.
