Happy Sunday (well it would be if I could get rid of my bloody hangover)!
Happy Sunday and Merry Christmas to BoW team and community! 😀 😀 😀
Happy Christmas and Merry Sunday!
Happy Sunday!
Happy xmas. For new years I promise never to miss a “First!” on an xlbs 😉
Happy Sunday Folks, Merry Christmas to all. 🙂
Merry sunday, happy Chritqwanzahnucastivus!
Good paint brushes is a great gift.
Well, actually there are laser cutters that can change the focus of the beam and it can produce a slight beveled edges in the cut.
That’s a mechanical effect though right?
Fundamentally lasers are straight?
AFIAK To do a bevel with a laser you either change angle by tilting the emitter or material or make multiple shallow cuts to form a stepped diagonal. Once a laser comes out it only changes direction through reflection or refraction.
or is fitted with a mini black hole? they can bend light?
‘Halfling’ is the word you use when the Tolkien estate threatens legal action when you use the word ‘Hobbit’….
It was great to hear a Critical Role Reference on the Show. I think Vex’halia would have a serious problem if Grog had a bear pelt on. Merry Christmas all. Hope to see you on Boxing day, or as we call it in the states, Day after Christmas sale day, when all the decorations and crap that didn’t sell is half price!
Merry Christmas guys!
Strong gravity fields can bend light…Merry Christmas Justin! 😉
Happy Sunday and Merry Christmas to all!
I remember that I could not keep up with the advent calendars when I was a kid. Usually I ate half on the first day and the rest on the second. It did not change much. I am a sucker for chocolate.
Moving on, I would use the Clock Tower for Wolsung and Umbra Turris. Could be nice in Carnevale.
Christmas presents for hobbyists are a true pain. I got paints for Christmas one year and was quite happy about it. My fiancée never knew what to buy from our hobby range. As Justin said people do not understand and usually frankly they do not care. Why? Because in most cases in your home it is solemnly your hobby. My girlfriend is interested in what I paint and even asks questions 🙂 but I think she would not dare to buy something connected to miniatures and I wouldn’t really like to tell her what I would like to get. So I will probably get a present that I really like – a book. 🙂 That’s just my point of view.
Enjoy your vacation guys 😉
My wifes the same, likes looking at what I’m working on, comes with me to open days and chats to the designers, authors sculptors etc, but ask her to buy me something and she’ll be dumbfounded. She asks me for a range of things I’d like for Christmas and pick a couple of bits of the list
Fundamentally lasers, wow! I remember when if you were talking about lasers the only thing you were prattling about was a cheap Chinese laser gun type toy with a friction motor driven by the trigger that spewed forth enough sparks to start a forest fire.
However I do have it on good sourced authority that light which is basically a narrow beam of intensified light can and does bend, wait for it if enough magnetism is applied. This becomes more of an issue if you start talking about Black holes and such where it believed the cetral gravity is such that even light cannot be emitted hence black whole. Things get even weirder though when you strt talking about the destination from one side of a black hole to another, and the you start messing with polarities. LOL. So maybe Justin has had the drop on you guise all the time in that he comes from the other side of a parallel universe and polarities are in fact not reversed but the right way around for him.
A very, very merry Christmas to each and every one of us all and may we all have a great next year filled with everything we feel we deserve and just not what we get.
Lets make a pact between us all to take care of each other and as the old man “Jimmy Goddard” used to say, “At least at this time of year lets not leave anyone upset at what we said last to them, this is Christmas, and if you can’t leave them with a little peace and smile, Then it is time to give up and just don’t go in the first place.” Do you know what that ain’t too bad to live by either.
Hope your wishes all come true and good hunting everyone.
Victoria and Chris Goddard.
Happy sunday and a Merry Christmas folks!
Do want those undead astronauts for a Dr.Who style escort scenario
Happy Sunday and Merry Christmas guys!
When I saw the skeletons in the space suits, the first thing that came to mind was the Doctor Who episode “Silence in the Library” where the Vashta Nerada creatures have eaten away the flesh of the some of the visitors to the abandoned library.
Justin was right, he never mentioned curved lasers. That was Lloyd. Justin was talking about that lasers in the laser cutters generally cut perpendicular to the cutting surface so to create a bevel or a chamfer requires a specialist laser cutter that can alter the position of either the laser or the subject to create the angle. Now that being send it is possible to bend a high intensity laser beam in normal gravity, just no more than the beam’s thickness. The actually physics behind it is a little weird..
I was slightly surprised storage didn’t get mentioned as ideas for gifts; granted it’s not particular exciting but it’s nearly always useful. Sort of like socks.
Enjoy the vacation even though I won’t get my birthday edition of the XLBS next weekend.
Happy and Merry Christmas. I need to get the BoW crew to send me a some of the Christmas hats and poppers. I think that is a fine tradition.

You can watch all of the Gnomes (1980)film on Youtube. :¬)
Merry Christmas!
Do you have a link?
Lloyd is right about the GW paint pots, though it’s not so much because they’re flip tops, but the pots they use are particularly susceptible to collecting paint around the lid. Their old pots were much better.
Yes, I found some old paints, both Citadel pots and Vallejo bottles, that have been sitting for 10 or 20 years, and they’re still good. The only ones that have dried out are Partha paints in screw-top pots.
Also, the current Citadel pots are utter crap, for the reason you state. The previous generation (the mid generation, the ones that looked kind of like the current ones but with white lids) didn’t collect as much paint around the lid, but they didn’t seem to seal airtight anyway.
@lloyd: actually the first day of Christmas (at least the one the song refers to) is Boxing Day.
.@warzan Here’s a link to the movie Gnomes, unfortunately with original language, Swedish.

To all the crew at Beasts of War, thanks for a great year of content and from my family to yours Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Now where’s my paint and glue I only have two weeks to get these hobby projects done!!!!!!
@warzan I always enjoyed your boardgames coverage in the Essex days and I would be very pleased to see some more in the future. We’ve got such brilliant board games these days and I’d love to see you including them.
What was the HDF terrain they are talking about? Mortenberg? Can’t find it.

Enjoy 🙂
Thank you.
Next year I suggest the buyers guide is a separate video so we can link it to family and friends. Also it needs to come out more than a few days before christmas. I’d suggest november, possibly early november. Maybe it would benefit from being split into sections. Board games, terrain, starter sets, and misc. I’m not keen on getting any more systems as I don’t get the use out of the ones I have. Maybe also include a section on how to identify what game and faction someone plays, including advising taking a photo of their army and taking it to the store, and advising them not to buy what the GW guy recommends unless its actually a GW game their army is from, to stop “oh if he plays bolt action he’ll love space marines”. Not just a guide on what to buy, but how to buy.
Maybe instead of a buyers guide. We could set up a list of hobbyists who would be prepared to give advice to fellow gamers other halves, a sort of Christmas present helpline.
Iwata Neo Airbrush & compressor set. Great set for anyone wanting an excellent value for money kit to get into air-brushing. A year down the line I’m wondering whether a better, tanked compressor is necessary, but the original compressor will still be useful.
That clock tower would be perfect for Bolt action if you wanted to re-create the final scene in Kelly’s Heroes. Will Kelly directing Oddball and his Sherman to knock out the Panzers in the town square.
Merry Christmas to all!
You did beat me to it
With those Space Skeletons the first thing I thought of was this
/Users/alexanderhayter/Desktop/60_spaceskeleton1.jpg
it was a GW model from the late 80s early 90s, I’ve got one knocking around somewhere at my mothers place.
Those Space are almost identical to a relatively early GW fig from 1990,
Here is a link to one I found online

Hi Warzan,

Looks at the comments to the Gnome clip – try TheUraharasensei, it looks like he has a torrent of the film
a great show have a good one guys and viewers.
Merry Christmas everyone! Many thanks to the BoW crew for providing so much content and entertainment throughout the year and for making me feel part of a gaming community. I get to play games so rarely these days that this community here has become very important to me!
On the subject of the characterfulness of old school models I think it’s definitely true. I remember as a teenage loving the move away from metals to multipose plastic kits, but these days I do miss the character of many of the early scuplts. Also, those single piece figures were so much easier and faster to paint!
Thanks for the show guys!
Poor Justin, they really smacked you around this weekend!
Nah, it was just reserved polarity.
reversed*
Great show (that almost goes with out saying)
I did end up setting up one of those sad wishlists on an online store – and the big stuff i’ll buy my self
@warzan @lloyd
You mean the World of David the Gnome! The TV series me and my sister loved so much and costs a bomb on dvd £55! http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000GKHM5U?keywords=the%20gnome&qid=1450726262&ref_=sr_1_7_twi_dvd_1&s=dvd&sr=1-7
But! I have found the Wedding episode in English! https://youtu.be/pMdflpRwwgQ?list=PL0630E307D00F8411
Merry Christmas! 😀
Same to you lads, great show. Thanks, and hears to another year.
Merry Xmas to all and here’s to a fantastic BOW filled 2016, May your paints never dry out, because they are in dropper bottles Warren 😉 and your bristles stay pointy !
So, Buyer’s Guide — the solution is simple. The problem with a generic buyer’s guide is that we are all individuals with our individual tastes and needs. The solution is for for you guys to create links to specific product reviews that you have featured throughout the year. Then we can forward those links to our significant others. That way they have choices that are specific to us as individuals.
for Ben… I hope Grog is not wearing Trinket…. LOL I too listen to Critical Role. Great stuff and good times.
ps.. I would like to rage!
Great show guys. enjoyed it a lot. Have a good Holiday. merry Christmas
My local gaming store has a gift registry so they can go to the store have a look at the list and pick and choose plus they get a 10 percent discount for using the list. Still have an element of surprise but no nasty gift surprises on Xmas. Happy New Years!!!!
