Age of Sigmar Project: Building The Starter Set
Blogging At This Event:
AOS and Bases - It's such an important detail, so lets sort it out before we build anything!
OK game-play aside there is an aesthetic issue with Age of Sigmar that needs to be resolved, Warren and Lloyd pitch some ideas and really really want your feed back on this one... so please post your ideas inside this update!

Chaos have a huge range of options to call upon stretching back 30 years. Obviously some of the big daemons are a good bet for terrifying your opponent, but what other units do you think you might resurrect?
What Models Are you Going to Field Along Side The Stormcast Eternals?
We'd love to hear just what units and heroes you fancy including in your 'Order Themed' Age of Sigmar armies. Comment on this update to let us know what is on your list!
Age of Sigmar Starter Set Project Introduction & Unboxing
The Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Starter Set has arrived in the studio and we've decided to record our progress of getting its contents ready for battle in a brand new project log.
First off Warren and Lloyd go though the box to discover what you'll get inside. They also discuss what paint schemes to apply to the two armies. We want to know what you think.

“Warzan Wednesday” sounds like it should be a thing. Maybe 2-4-1 cinema tickets or something.
lol simples 😉
Warzan, when you said in the video at 3:37:
“it’s kind of like an age of myth”, and waved your arm in dramatic fashion was CLASSIC.
I loved it!
You guys should save a clip of that or make an animated gif of it.
I keep watching it over and over its epic!
I really like the boxset, I’m painting my Sigmarites white with red trim, just to be different. Not a fan of the army in general but the models are nicely done anyway. I’m really taken with the Chaos stuff, I think they are all fantastic models, haven’t decided on how I am going t paint them all yet though. I’m also not a fan of the game as it stands right now, I haven’t written it off completely just yet, its still early days, but at the moment the games we have tried end up as a dice roll off… Read more »
As I say in the vid, I think a lack of terrain and sequential objectives is compounding the scrum problem. Its like the old style table layouts of 40K, I think as gamers we have moved on from that now – I hope lol
We’ve only played with the box contents so far, but have tried it with plenty of terrain too (to be honest, we played on our infinity table minus a few pieces of terrain to try it out), I’m a fan of the streamlined nature of the whole thing, there is definitely plenty of promise here. I just think it needs some help.
I have a feeling that these scenario books will make a big difference, I’ll be getting the one that is rumoured to be on its way
I had a thought. When End Times was going on they released a series of books that drove the narrative and drove the sale of new models also. Maybe releasing a long series of scenario books with some new models/units for each is the path GW will take with AoS, versus the old Army Books.
I think there’s a good chance of that happening.
Aint that the new hardback coming out? quest for ghal maraz?
Would be very surprised if GW didnt keep a 6 months release cadence for pushing things forward once the initial wave is over. e.g. 2 campaign books/boxes a year with a biennial (every 2 years) world changing event, pretty much like most MMO’s do, so if we have AoS now, id expect Sigmar Strikes Back, Return of the Sigmar, Sigmar and the last crusade, Sigmar hears a who, the sigmar that stole christmas, sigmarnado 3: the sigmaring, sigmar and grungi’s road trip
I have been really looking forward to seeing AoS develop at BoW from unboxing to playing games, depending on how this looks really will convince me if to buy or not.
Look like it will be fun.
I ressurected an old unit of Orc with crossbow, I can recall the name of the leader, he is missing his head any way. I had the models in a cupboard for years
I finished putting together the models in the box set. You are right to advise to take your time. I did it over about 4 evenings (while watching videos). Now I have the task of painting them. Still have to decide on the scheme to choose. I might wait to see what yours looks like.
I`m still shocked people are getting this big scrum in the middle of the board. I mean really……. The game is full of strategy and tactics but people are totally missing it. If youre ending up in scrums in the middle try actually changing things up. Hell look at the recent bat reps on youtube where the game is full and flowing. The rage coming from the 8th ed players is blinding them and seemingly many others to the fact this game has more going for it than the cluster*$^& that was 8th where only the best net list would… Read more »
Any set of rules where you are using just a few models/units will end in a scrum without a scenario or all with ranged weapons to keep them apart, divide and conquer and all that.
Can brains not beat dicks?… Anyway, I digress. There’s a time and place for this kind of discussion and it was the BoW forums before last week :p. In fact, the forums might be ready for a mature discussion about the strategy and tactics of AoS.
“Can brains not beat dicks?” Depends upon the sport doesn’t it? 😉
Agreed I’s like to see some exploration of strategy and tactics now the dust is settling 🙂
As I said further up, I think the strategy will come from two places. The campaign books, rumours are one is imminent, and the warscrolls.
I just don’t think the legacy warscrolls have had as much thought put into synergy and tactical options as the new stuff (I can’t overly criticise them for that, they are essentially a loss-leader), and until we get a few more of actual Age of Sigmar releases under our belts with new warscrolls the real depth will not be unlocked.
Brilliant video and what looks like it could be a belting series!
Khorne, Red, black and Bronze – I like bone effect too
i think the bone and red for the chaos warriors would be cool.
and silver for the strmcast eternals 🙂
Hi guys.
A nice simple vid, loved it.
Keep going like this, simple and straight forward.
I can’t make up my mind what colour to paint the Sigmarites.
Excellent vlog guys 🙂
I really like what you are mentioning and taking a beginner’s approach to presenting AoS
If I actually manage to convince myself into buying into the game (GW is just so expensive) I was going to go with the steel armor, gold trim and blue shields. I think if you just change the color of the shields and shoulderpads you should be still able to keep the army cohesive.
When I first saw your setup I was afraid you where going to flock it up. Alas the unboxing was quite successful!
So we are thinking of breaking down and jumping in on AoS. I am just waiting to see what else is released. I am waiting to see if our new friend we met at Gen Con at the AoS is correct on whats coming. Wouldn’t be right if a couple members of the BoW team did not play AoS.
Hey guys, I did a silver/red and you’re absolutely correct i was very happy with the contrast. Here it is if anyone was interested.

my chaos warhost consists of skaven mostly at the minute with a couple of chaosier things like a chaos familiar(that is the hooded rat from the plauge priest box.) and a unit of furies(converted from nightrunners into pseudo jump pack with wing thingy rats… or BatRats although i should probably tweak the bravery on them since they are skaven and shouldn’t have 10 bravery unless there are 60+ of them. as for stormcast eternals i bought a box of liberators for a unit in my astral claws, and the colorscheme is rather similar… the colors used were army painter gun… Read more »
Great start guys. Looking forward to watching this progress and can’t wait for a battle on that great table.
A big negative for the Stormcast is they all look very similar in their armour. I know its slightly anti-fluff but why not paint the different types of Stormcast different colour schemes.
Just to follow this up. We are painting our stormcast types different colour base coats of metalics. The unifying (and contrast) colour for the force is going to be on the shields/details.
Loads of Mat pack Ideas 😉
Great video! The appeal of AoS is the fact that it is new and fresh mixed with some familiar bits like Khorne. Terrain ideas keep popping into my head. It is pretty cool to have that seed for the imagination. What’s holding me back? Cost really and time. I would need to spend quite a bit to get stuck in. However, it is very exciting to see a new game from GW. Models look really nice. Thank you for putting this video log together!
Just as a warning guys, check the number of bases you have. In my version (and a friend’s) we had an extra 40mm base for the Khorne standard bearer. In the instructions he’s on a 32mm base like all the other Blood Reavers. I only found this out when I ran out of 32mm ones while building the Reavers and had to carefully cut the standard bearer off his to go on the bigger size.
The first video is great, but the “whip stick” moment is just epic xD
Does anyone else get reminded of the Mortal Kombat universe with all the realms?
If anyone brings out a scorpion mini im so going to have him as a hero of Khorne… Kome Over HERE!!!! (and donate your blood and skull). Actually that would be a pretty sweet mashup the non earth realm Karacters (sorry cant help myself with K’s and Mortal Kombat ;)) fighting as champions for a given army in AoS.
Raiden for Sigmarines
Goro for Ohgres
Reptile for Lizardmen
Baraka for Skaven
Sindel for Dark Elves
Quan Chi for Undead
etc.
Great start guys. I found the started set to be very easy to assemble. I had no problems at all. I’m painting them according to the painting guide they released. I’m making good progress, but it’s going to take a long time. there are so many minis!
Superb guys, looking forward to this series of Vlogs progresses.
