Bolt Action Boot Camp: Sunday
It's Sunday! Normally we'd be wishing you a Happy Sunday from the Weekender set but this time weekend we're still playing host to the Bolt Action Boot Camp which is going great. Everyone's really enjoying using their armies and we've got something awesome planned later on today...
You Could Win!
By commenting here on the main Live Blog and on the individual posts you could be in with a chance of winning 1 of 3 D-Day Firefight Starter Sets for Bolt Action...
You might have seen us hinting at it elsewhere but watch out for something alien. We've heard rumours of cows getting abducted...

Bolt Action Boot Camp Sunday Kicks Off!
The Competitive Games Begin
A whole round of competitive games have now begun with prizes on the line for big tank kills, objectives stolen and all those other fantastic movie moments you might run into while playing Bolt Action...
D-Day Campaign: Battle For Pegasus Bridge Round Four
The fighting hots up this morning and the British try and make their way across the bridge under increasing amounts of German fire including a sniper who takes roost in the bridge control room.
German troops on the top of the bridge fire down onto those trying to take cover behind the metal barriers on the side of the bridge and take a few out but not before return fire forces them into cover and kills most of the squad.
The British Commanding Officer, Crazy Jack, runs across the bridge to try and rally his squads into action as the Spotter for the Allies is also bought down when looking for the perfect target.
In the end the German Medic decides the squad atop the bridge is a lost cause and makes his way back down the stairs...or maybe that should be "flees back down the stairs".
How To Get Your Mates Into Bolt Action
Check out this previously Backstage video where Justin and Chez take you through an easy way to get your mates into Bolt Action using a few squads and some dice...
D-Day Campaign: Battle For Pegasus Bridge Round Five
The brave British Paratrooper Winston runs forward and survives a deadly flamethrower shot from one of the German teams as they close in on the control tower. His mate Charles gets roasted alive and unfortunately falls into the river...
Meanwhile the British also try and move up the centre of the bridge and get peppered by the German MMG. The Germans sense a bit of an opportunity and shoot close range with their Panzerschreck but weirdly it just harmlessly bounces off the metalwork.
The British Paratroopers begin to get some reinforcements and the soldiers are closing in. There are going to be some heroic moments next turn...
Alessio's Thoughts On The Weekend & Prizes
More Gaming Before Lunch!
Lloyd has popped up to say hello and more gaming kicks off...
Lunch Time!
We stop for some hard earned lunch as the big battles still rage...
World War II Kit: Ranger Uniform
It's time to take a look at the American Ranger Uniform you might be familiar with from films like Saving Private Ryan...
D-Day Campaign: Battle For Pegasus Bridge Round Six
The British get very close to the control room of the bridge and are very close to securing it before more Germans get involved.
Poor old Winston dies fighting off the flamethrower crew; surely something that would net him a Victoria Cross. More heroics are just around the corner though As the British Commander, Jack Hardasnails III runs ahead to finish off what Winston started.
Bullets are pinging everywhere and Jack has dodged most of the MG shots coming his way - even managing to take down a plucky German Medic who tried to stop him.
Will the British be able to make it there in time before German reinforcements arrive? Will the British spotter be able to add some howitzer support to the bridge capture?
D-Day Campaign: Battle For Pegasus Bridge Final Round
As Jack closes in the German SS Officer decides enough is enough. Activating first (oops...my bad, sorry Rob for pulling the dice!) he charges towards Jack and delivers the killing blow scuppering the British plans to take Pegasus Bridge.
In the end this scenario ends with the Germans winning the day and stopping the British advance late at night. Maybe the invasion wouldn't have gone so well because of this set back?
Remember to help out and join in with the D-Day World Wide Campaign!
D-Day World Wide Campaign: End of Game
I talk with Rob, Marc and John about the Pegasus Bridge battle we just fought out and explain the way it REALLY happened.
Prizes For Success & Failure!
During the morning we ran a competition which included first tank kill, most kills over all, the most epic fail and more. We had some great moments and people walked away with some cool prizes...
Ride Into Battle With The Russians!
It's not all armoured cavalry in Bolt Action; there is even an opportunity for some actual horses with the Soviets. Check these out...
A Superb Panther & Some World Of Tanks Style Action...
Not only have we got this rather superb looking Panther painted up very nicely indeed but a moment that would be worthy of World of Tanks.
The Tiger zoomed past the train only to be spotted by the Hellcat from between the carriages. A shot was fired that simply bounced off the Tiger's rear. The Tiger, sensing a problem, went into full reverse and aimed through the same gap!
The Tiger took his shot and even with a Recce Move from the Hellcat it wasn't enough. It bit the dust with a round right through the front of the hull.
Our Own Pegasus Bridge
You've heard all about it from John earlier but it really is one of the heroic moments from World War II. See how we mocked up our Pegasus Bridge assault in all its glory before our wargamers got stuck into it.
We had a lot of fun putting together this board and John is very proud of it! We might have taken a few liberties with the combatants...and the bridge charge, but other than that enjoy!

Well, let’s start cracking!
Happy Sunday! (are we allowed to say it without a weekender?)
Nein!
Well tough, I ain’t followin’ your rules!
Happy Sunday, Happy Sunday, Happy Sunday, Happy Sunday, Happy Sunday, Happy Sunday, Happy Sunday, Happy Sunday, Happy Sunday,!
Bit weird to ask for it nine times but happy to oblige @solar.
I dun see what you dun did thar
Enjoy day 2 boot camp attendees!
At first, I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t a casual march past…
Then, I started giggling away…
Looking forward to the days proceedings.
lol who was that running around in the background??
War on a Sunday!
Its been another great weekend of coverage for those of us unable to attend, I’ve not had much time to myself but was able to grab a peek at the videos through the day yesterday, really enjoyed them all. Great stuff from everyone and a big thanks from me.
I think we nearly broke t’internet yesterday…
Great, lets get it on.
A SWAT team in the bushes..I think they’ve triggered an alarm and are now on the government’s list of suspects..!
Organising training camps is a dangerous business these days 😉
Happy Sunday 😀
Lol at the guys in the background
I believe this is Happy Stugday…
Great idea
Happy Sunday!!
As they say points mean prizes!
When I saw those two in the background I just couldn’t stop laughing.
Happy Sunday
Seems to have gone really well. Great idea bringing reenactors along to show off their uniforms and Dixie was really interesting – Thanks John’s Dad! I have to say for even a non-minis player (ok X-Wing) that this one tempts me. Castlerock is a long way for me but Bolt Action 28 mm looks pretty cool.
Happy Sunday and day 3 of the bootcamp :D. Hope to see some gameplay video today.
Looks like a lot of fun, can’t wait for today’s coverage of a game I really want to dive wallet first into.
Some nice pairs firing manoeuvres in the background there prior to a casualty extraction 🙂
Nice to see all the uniforms and Tank fest yesterday looked a lot of fun by the video’s so interested to see what games you have up your sleeves for today.
Got to love the background action. C’mon gaming Sunday.
When I first got into this hobby I never thought I would play anything but fantasy now I can’t wait to get my first bolt action pack. Great weekend guys hopefully I can join you one day
Wow! Just wow! I really hope there is another BOWBABC in the (near) future! This looks an amazing weekend. Jealousy over-load.
last few day have been very intertaining thx for all your effort. you guy need a tab just for your boot camps content
I think this has been the best of the boot camps so far. So much to interest everyone, well done to all at BoW.
Hope you all have a great day of war gaming:)
Popping back to see who won the Pegasus Bridge battle 🙂
Happy Sunday guys
Tanks? tanks.
Good evenin from down under!
i would have loved to come and do this one but ended up going to comicon. maybe ill try to get on bored on to another boot camp
This looks like great fun, I wish I was actually in the UK because I’d definitely have been keen to attend.
I want some martians invasion coverages
Please 🙂
Looking great wish I was there though looking forward to a Bolt action tournament at my local store next weekend
Nice and interesting game system. Looking forward to start playing bolt action as two of my mates started recently…
coolbeans
Happy sundayyy
happy Sunday, thank god the troubles are over in Ireland or those two sketchy dudes with guns messing about in the bushes just might be in for some modern warfare never mind 28mm.
what do the locals think when their off to church and see them in the bushes or have you suitably prepared them with daft stuff over the years lol
all very entertaining on a sunday morning
Looking forward to seeing some martian action!
Prizes, you say?
I love your tables! Would be great to join in on one of your boot camps!
Happy Sunday and the REAL Q Vicky B Day
Missed everything that Warren said from about half way through. Not sure why 🙂
Looks like a lot of fun wish I could be there. Love the blogging keep up the great work.
Looking good!!
looks like a great game!
Happy Sunday all. Though I think i’m a little late.
Tank fest was awesome, and it seems that you guys are getting a great Sunday
I may have to give this game a try… Just got to convince my sons it’s good…xD
A wee bit disappointed I missed out on this weekend
Good to see Bolt Action give back to the community. I also hope it helps transition gamers from GW to historical.
lol, looks like everyone is having a fun time
lol whats going on in the woods
Morning to everyone ….looking forward to some gaming goodness today
lol, looks like there is 2 soldiers moving through the woods behind warren on the sunday kickoff show. you should take a look
I think my next MDF purchase needs to be a Pegasus-style bridge 😀
warren watch out you get ambushed XD
Happy Sunday, Bolt Action now almost shot, great camp, they look like they have fun, the bolt action band of brothers
keep it coming guys
Thank you Beasts of War. Even though the vast majority of Back stagers can’t attend the Bootcamps the live blogging, tips and just seeing how the game tables were built with all the awesome terrain, I feel as if I was there.
Okay guys please at least do a live game with the Mars Attacks minis lol
This is the war room. You can’t fight in here!
Let’s see what happened to the bridge 🙂
Looks like good fun, shame I’m in Australia or I’d try to come along to get started in Bolt Action.
I want to play with the russians
If you go down to the woods today……
Last day…
Happy Sunday.
Enjoyed the guys running around in the back of the intro vid.
Another great boot camp gents. Looking forward to the infinity event.
Darn..I’ll have to repaint my Rangers…
Great show, keep it coming!
Damn, historical wargames never seemed to be my thing, but that bolt action game sure looks like a lot of fun.
Having spent most of this weekend flu’d up to the gills, the boot camp has provided some much needed relief. Thanks for coverage and Happy Sunday to you all.
I’ve managed to avoid the Kwak troops joke.. drat.
Happy sunday
I hope Alessio will announce some Hungarian kits on their way today, but I’m sure tht’s not going to happen any time soon.
I have watched the action all weekend. Really great coverage, I have to get my figs completed so my buddy and I can start putting on our own epic war movie showdowns. I also have to say I really want to be apart of a Boot Camp especially a Bolt Action Deux if it comes around. hint hint!!!
Lots of great stuff as always!
Great stuff as usual from a great group of guys. Keep up the phenomenal work!
Jealous I am not there and loved the back ground activity
Bolt Action is a very easy system to learn, and still has a lot of replay value.
Nice report easier to paint too
Pity the “Para`s” failed to take Pegasus Bridge, better luck next time. It does not happen often, but that last out of the blue doomed to fail charge does succeed.
Look`s like Sunday has got of to a good start, you lucky gitz……………..
Always happy to try a new game…and I do so love WWII history.
=)
I´ll have to have a Bootcamp-video marathon when I have time off from work.
I hear they wanted Sam to dress up as a German Stormtrooper but they were worried Carrie Fisher would say that he was too short.
Warren, this book might be useful in your pursuit of a themed Russian force for BA. It’s sitting in my ‘to read’ stack atm so I haven’t read it yet but I thought it might be good.

Mortar fire Into your open topped hellhound, where’s a baseball bat when you need one.
Happy Sunday!!
Happy Sunday BoW
Damn auto correct Hellcat not Hellhound.
I really like how you covered the bootcamp during the weekend. Congratulations on a successful event.
Oh man. Looking forward to this. It is 8am here in Cancun land and this guy is ready for more Bolt Action
Canuck land
Those Bolt Action figures look pretty neat 🙂
fantastic looking bootcamp all in all.
Seriously, stop it.. spent all last night pouring through rulebook on Kindle and watching your 2 part demo video!!!!
I really wish I could make it to one of these weekends. The look superb!
Looked like a fantastic weekend, lots of fun.
Happy Sunday!
Lucky Lads
wish I had been there 🙂 well see some of you at the next one 😉
I’m really enjoying watching and reading all these uploads. Great job Beasts of War!
Cheers for the coverage. Really enjoyed it.
Looking forward to catching up with all the videos on Tuesday. Might be interested in getting into Bolt Action myself (y)
Want a starter set!!
great job guys even if I wasn’t there I enjoyed it following the live blog! can’t wait for the infinity bootcamp!
looks like a lot of fun. Wish I lived closer so i could participate.
Can’t wait to start painting my own army again after watching this.
Well, I’d say you have another successful boot camp on your hands!
I got so wrapped up in it that I broke out my WWII 325th G.I.R dress uniform. I wore the garrison hat around all day and forgot I had it on when I went out to grab the mail.
Oh bum! Says Victoria realising that without the bridge in the allies hands the Germans may well run into Ranville. Never mind eh1 he said playing the Axis forces and scrabbling over the maps to see who is where. I think that the Paratroopers are going to have to be cautious now.
Victoria and Chris G
weekend looked amazing guys so jealous, loved the look at real uniforms gave me motivation to go back and touch up my painting on my Brits.
Hope everyone had a great time 🙂
Awesome gaming
I lost what Warren was saying I was concentrating on the action in the woods behind, I was quite disappointed they didn’t attack Warren, that could have been epic!
Did you notice the background action?
I’m off to the pub. I’m gonna drink a Kwak.
Looks like everyone is having fun !
I know that the day was not going to end without a Martian invasion. Can we have some kind of Battle Report on this one?
WOW the bridge looks awesome!
Happy Sunday
awesome week end watching
Happy Sunday!
The tables look great. Looks like lots of fun.
Looked like a great weekend. Well done to all involved.
It’s the last day for war but i have seen some spy in the wood or maybe it’s just some gamers that don’t have their back pass to be able to grab some tikets to be there ?
Have a good one guy’s
Firefight ftw 🙂
Wow, looks great.
Great Job to all involved. To all who are thinking about Bolt Action, get stuck in as it is a simple yet great system. It may seem a straight historical game but that is easily mucked with. As seen in the boot camp the Martians made an appearance. Their are rules on the net for Zombie cross over games, Weird War 2 and such. This system and it’s kin(Beyond the Gates of Antares) will be around for a lone time to come.
Looks interesting.
Looks like fun and Lloyd’s dream came true.
Awesome coverage! Wish could’ve been there, such a great way to learn a game.
Another great boot camp and live blog! I would like to have seen though a bit of a profile on all the folks that attended. Who they are, where they are from, what army they chose, etc. And by identifying themselves, we can poke and prod them later for more info about how great it was and what secret s they got out of Alessio.
I do love bolt action.
Bolt action looks interesting, wouldn’t mind giving it a go if i win the starter boxes.
I feel kind of jealous but lucky at the dá-me time. Jealous of those who mansgens to make it To the bootcamp, but lucky to have the opportunity to follow it.
Keep up the Good work.
Looks awesome, I’m gonna give the rulebook a go! 🙂
Loving the mars attacks chimera game that’s going 😀
Great event BoW. Been following all weekend and hope you can keep doing these events for many years to come, as they are just right on.
One happy backstager.
The Kwak was good, but the Tripel Karmeliet was even better 🙂
Love the whole idea of the bootcamp, wish you guys did a Wolsung bootcamp.
Wish I had went to the DZC one! This one too tbh. If there’s ever a Malifaux one, I’ll be driving up for sure.
Happy Sunday!!
These “boot camps” are easily the best ways to try out a game. Just a problem with me being the other side of the world.
You guys look as though it was a great weekend and alot of fun.
Nice to see all the great paint jobs wish I could do mine that good
Looks like a great weekend! Definitely a goal to make it to one of these events.
Nice event Guys! I really want to try this game.
Bolt Action and bridges. Does it get any better??
Happy Sunday to all!!
Warren, shouldn’t you be holding a celebratory pint at the end of a long weekend bellowing
“Happy Sunday!”
sounded like a fun time for all so everyone wins.
i would have loved to have gone to this.
Looks like a fab time was had by all, have a safe journey home people….
Another great weekend of gaming is now ended. With another one already scheduled, this is the way to do an amazing job! Congratulations and that many more boot camps be on the horizon
Great weekend lads thanks a lot. Ill be back…ahem!
Uniforms very informative. Looks like all had a great time, wish I could have been there.
Well done all.
Mars Attacks! Seriously?! That is all kinds of awesome.
locked n loaded!
Oh Wish i was there. Bolt Action looks great
Playing a game with unpainted minis? Blasphemous!
How big tables are you guys playing on during the boot camp?
Missed most of the actual live blog, had to babysit for my brother’s kids sadly.
Also means I didn’t have the chance to finish my first squad today.
Luckily I have another day off tomorrow.
A great weekends coverage. Really enjoyed it. I now have to find the money to get into it and convince a local club member to play too. Thanks again for the covera
Sunday Gaming at its finest!
The Bridge is awesome, and that panther is amazingly cool
Well done to everyone, but I have to say: John was the star of the weekend.
I am juust blow away by this boot camp. I have just made it my goal in life to at least make it to one boot camp in the near future.
Excellent stuff! I’m more and more convinced that I need to try this Game!
Cheers!
I want a beasts of war turn marker!!!!
What a great weekend I wish I could of joined you there
Thanks for the blogging guys. I do like the reenactor stuff, more of that in the future please! 🙂
Nice game, i definitely will try a demo in the near future.
These boot camps look like a ton of fun just wish they were in the states.
looks like a great weekend.
It’s been interesting watching all the posts
Love the fun you guys were having with the martians!
Gutted I missed this been hiking the South Downs trail
. Looks awesome though.
3 days of gaming!
What a game
Happy sunday !!!!!!
Great coverage! Really looking forward to getting into BA.
Happy sunday
Can’t wait to get some bolt action units after watching these clips.
Never played Any historical games before, but I’ve been looking at BA for a while, looks like a great game. I’m v tempted to grab myself some French troops as a start up force. That’s prolly the wfb goblin player in me though… I’ve got used to my armies legging it from battle… 😉
This looks pretty great!
That picture with the Martians arriving was really cool. BoW should totally make BA rules for them and make a battle report for Bolt Action with the Martians invading =p
Great weekend , thanks for posting the Vlog.
Great stuff as always, guys!
This just looks like so much fun. Come to Philly and run a boot camp, please!
Giant robot vs Tiger? who took it out? 😀
Has me interested in starting a German army for Bolt Action!
Just wonderful stuff – Pegasus bridge formost.
Looking good guys
So wish I was there, looks like your all having a right laugh! Keep up the good work fellas
Happy Sunday! Can’t wait for the next Boot Camp!
It looks like it was another fun day, time for me to catch up on those vids!
I wish I was in the UK so I could attend one of these great boot camps.
I have been looking at starting Bolt Action, watching this has got me even more excited!
Happy Sunday!
I should try to get in on one of these boot camps one day, I hope this will go on for a long time.
Cards against humanity. Once again I’m going to hell!
Having just got into bolt action this is a really cool article
That Pegasus Bridge setup is awesome.
Looks like Lloyd showed up for the last of the fun. =)
Would love to get into this game.
I have just come back from two days of hillwalking with school kids and can now catch up with the boot camp. It all looked very good fun indeed. Boards are fantastic and the miniatures which were painted looked brilliant.
Very nice scenarios and (although I am not a fan of Mars attacks franchise) it is nice to see how the historical game can be made into something else.
Personally I will be sticking to more historical match ups and I am now really looking forward to the overlord tournament at 6s2hit store in Edinburgh on 6th June where my soviet army shall (in all probability) be blasted from the tabletop.
Well done BOW.
Thanks for a great boot camp. Keep up the good work.
Finally, had some time to catch up with all of this. It must have been a seriously cool weekend. Thanks for the coverage guys 🙂
I’m building a German Pioniers Platoon and need some tanks. I think I need to buy some StuGs!
Bolt action works very well @ 15mm scale as well
I really really love the terrain and especially how much you can use without slowing the game down
It ended yesterday and I already miss it
it looks like everyone had a great time 🙂
May the best man win. ie. me!
and there it was….gone 😀
Great job guys as always.
well the lads need a well earned rest after that
I love playing Black powder and see no reason not to expand into Bolt Action. You guys sell me on games everytime. Thank you for walking me through starting and playing here!
Love waking up to this! Great Boot Camp guys!
what a cracking live battle report with ww2 and aliens innovation awesome!
I have posted on a lot of the updates for this past weekend. So much good stuff it is a sensory overload. Hope everyone there enjoyed themselves.
Can’t wait to start going through the videos. Looks fantastic as always!!
I just noticed is that (Justin) or (odd ball) commanding the firefly tank? @warzan
[Insert well thought out comment designed to provoke intelligent conversation here]
Great coverage guys! The one game I haven’t got into yet 🙁
I love the bridge board and even the small touches like the movable barbed wire. Brilliant! I must say that bridge is the cat’s meow. (I see what you did there).
The looks are all great but it’s the small stuff that counts. And I like your little joke
Very nice…
The tables are awesome!
Looks ace..
Looks like a great day was had by all
the Pegasus bridge table looked sweet, plus had a few special characters. would loved to have played on that
you guys do a great job with these bootcamps. the blog is a nice little snippet of what it was like.
Marsian invasion?! Where!? … Found it. All good stuff.
looks like fun was had by all. Wish I could have been there.
Well done guys, an Awsome weekend thanks again for the blogs & videos 🙂
The martians invading! The real reason why Lloyd came!
Excellent coverage. I have thought this would be a great game to start. Was between this and SGT miniatures. I think this coverage has made my mind up! Thanks
Great looking weekend
I am just a newbie but I’ve watched all the videos and are definitely going to buy Bolt action. Just got to save up as getting it in Australia is expensive. Cant wait to start painting and building my Army. Looks like you guys had a great time.
You are definitely the devil Warren, because of you I fall into FoW, and now … now … NOOOWWWWW !!! *grapping his head*
my wife hates you 🙂 *sob*
