Weekender: Ranking Up For Battle In The 9th Age!
December 15, 2018 by dracs
Welcome to The Weekender where we're getting stuck into some discussion on the future of Warhammer 40,000 and Age Of Sigmar plus learning all about The 9th Age and its ranked mass battle rules.
Weekender Podcast Download
In addition to that, we've also got Cad from 4Ground with us for this show so say hi!
4Ground Tease
We've had 4Ground with us all week filming some new content and we give you a teaser of some of the work they've been doing including World War 0 and their smaller scale terrain too!
Of course, they've also got Fabled Realms in the works and things are progressing well on that front.
The Future Of Warhammer 40,000 & Age Of Sigmar
We take a moment to suggest some cool ideas that we'd love to see explored in Warhammer 40,000 and Age Of Sigmar.
This includes the next step for the Imperium, potential invasions from Xenos forces and of course where things might go when it comes to the Mortal Realms and the potential for more adventures with the Stormcast Eternals.
News
We've got some cool news to discuss from this week...
- Harry Potter Characters - The Crouch family come to the range from Knight Models
- Star Wars: Destiny Convergence - A new booster box and starter sets are coming from Fantasy Flight Games
- Blackstone Fortress In Kill Team - Rules were released to use these miniatures in GW's skirmish game
What did you pick up from the news this week?
An Introduction To The 9th Age
We got to sit down with Artur from TMS to talk about The 9th Age, their plans, what they've been doing over the past few years and of course their Kickstarter project that looks to get you started with this community-led rule set.
Kickstarter
We have one Kickstarter for you today. Justin takes us through you might want to back the awesome Tainted Grail project from Awaken Realms.
Make sure to check out our Let's Play of the game that we popped out this week!
Competitions - Win A 6x4 Table Of 4Ground Dark Age Terrain + The 9th Age Pledges!
We've got an awesome competition for you this week alongside the folks from 4Ground which would be a perfect Christmas present for someone.
Also, the winner from last week has been announced over on our Prize Claim Centre. The winner was from Youtube and they got their hands on the Vigilus Defiant Campaign Book.
Have a great weekend!

Another great giveaway from guys at 4ground, armies for 9th age also look interesting.
It’s the Weekend!
It’s going to be a cold one…
It would help if OTT didn’t keep bumping me out so I have to repeatedly log-in.
I ran in to the login issue as well … So I did go to bed
Happy Weekend! “Deus ex Eldar”, wonderful phrase 🙂 It is a question of when Slaanesh makes his/her/its return, which ought to be fiendishly great! Besides a buttload of cool new demons, I wish to see more Slaaneshi-influenced eldar/aelves.
the General Kenobi comes courtesy of Genndy’s Clone Wars cartoon and I for one am very happy about that. There were some stunning characters introduced in those series, shame they ended after 2 seasons.
I am missing the community spotlights though #sadpanda
Sorry Gerry, but it was 5 seasons, plus the Lost Missions which the producers seem to count as season 6.
There is another season to come on the Disney+ streaming app, I believe. Not sure where these will be available outside the US.
nope Genndy did 2, they were released between episode 2 and 3 and told the Clone Wars story, the last episodes story was the capture of Palaptine by Grevious and the last shot of the cartoon was the opening shot of Revenge of the Sith. They did put out a different series with the same name as the Clone Wars years later, but it wasn’t done by Genndy, or even in his style, and tragically wasn’t as good. But that’s life for you.
Thanks for the correction.
I presume that the Genndy series is no longer canon?
I imagine it still is, he introduced Ventress and linked the two prequel films. There’s nothing in it that wasn’t okayed by Lucas film. But then these days it’s almost impossible to keep a track on what’s canon and what isn’t. If you want to know what it was like someone has cut them all together into a 2 hour film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXmdfbjhxqw I can’t recommend it enough, beautifully done and his style from Samurai Jack really works for the action.
I’m checking that out today!
Weekender time……. didn’t realise that the 9th age was a thing… perhaps the Orcs need to come out of storage
come check out the-ninth-age.com !
all for the low cost of free.
What I would like to see in 40k? Imperial Guard needs new troops, as do Orks and Eldar. Leman Russ comes back and slaps his boys across the face for obsessing with wolves like mad. Vulkan comes back for some mad final battle with Chaos. Lion El’Johnson sleeps though the apocalypse, wonders why there’s no galaxy left and goes to nuke AoS from orbit. Twice. That’s about it, I guess. Oh, and an Inquisition codex.
and when Russ returns he better be the old bald Russ, with a respirator looking like Vader at the end of Jedi and not some long haired shit towering three times the size of Marines for no good reason.
I prefer the long haired version of Russ, the original Rogue Trader image was produced long before any of the chapters evolved their own unique trappings. However a Leman Russ coming back who looked older, more grizzled and perhaps sporting a slightly different hair style like something off the Vikings TV series would be pretty cool. I’m thinking Ragnar Lodbrok in Power Armour…
as long as he has his respirator, he did after all suffer massive damage in that acid rain storm on Susa, and to be fair his bionic eye and bald head…. nope I’m sticking with it, if they’re going to bring him back he needs to look like he did when he left. Just for once it would be nice if GW didn’t take a sky high dump on their own back story
Do you think at GW actually know what the back story is themselves?
these days I doubt it. But I can dream
Sanguinus shouldn’t return, Dante should be elevated to the New Primarch and he takes the name Sanguinus that would make it more interesting; 2nd edition lore about dante is he being commanding the chapter for 10k years
From discussion s elsewhere WW0 looks interesting. Do the bases indicate something similar to Blucher and Grand Armed where a base equals a brigade?.I am presuming the bases are saboted to allow for sliding scales to allow for smaller actions in the FIW or maybe the Jacobite rebellion to be run
3 videos coming for it, which will hopefully show it off a bit better, but it’s still a work in progress. Feedback from Tony, Garry and the others on Wednesday night meant that the game I played on friday had changes from the one on Tuesday. But here’s what I know right now, no saboting, each base represents 100 men, so for the Plains of Abraham I had 44 stands to account for the 4400 men. Unit sizes are based on the approximate numbers, so 3 stands of grenadiers but 6 for the Fraser highlanders. There will be a points system as well for people to play non specific battles instead of particular historic. I hope that helps some
Thanks Gerry
I was presuming on the sabots due to the 40*20 being on the bigger bases
I am guessing given the number of men represented per base that the European SYW battles are not the main focus of the ruleset as you would certainly need a lot of bases
It will certainly be interesting to see the videos though
no larger bases just the 20×30 that the minis are on.
I don’t see any reason not to play larger battles on the face of it. The system works well, it would just mean picking a different scale per base in the regiments, since it’s already an abstraction it wouldn’t make much of a difference.
True.Be interesting to see anyway
I agree looks interesting I will be interesting in getting my hands on the rules to see if they work well with my 6nn armies… As it seems a base is a 100 men then it should be easy to sort out a conversation.
Saturday is weekender time!!!
I would like to see 40K go back to some of the original lore and have a more story driven mission to the games, sort of a bridge between miniatures battle game and an rpg.
What would I like to see?
OTT revisit the previous topics as the discussions have turned into us listening to you guys without mentioning community comments.
In 40K – The Primarchs are coming, but what I really want is the lost Primarchs to return
In AoS – The realms to be shown as areas on the Olde World map. As Sigmar conquers them, they return to ‘reality’.
On 9th Age, I loved WHFB. but it’s gone. Dead. There’s better games and even better figures. If they ever rank up AoS then 9th Age is as dead as disco too. Possibly even if they don’t sadly.
4Ground continues to give me a hobby chubby. What they do with MDF is damn sexy.
You aren’t tied to use models from one company with the 9th age and all rules are completely free.
Finding models what to use in the game is one of the best parts for me.
You can use AOS models too if you like. I have lots of sigmarines converted to warriors of the dark gods for example. 🙂
4Ground products are brilliant so getting a full table of it would be awesome
Tainted Grail looks ok but Justin needs to check out the fact that there seems to be a LOT of people saying they won’t back this as AR are two games behind on delivering pledges to them and they won’t give AR more money whilst that is still the case
In my opinion AR’s promises on delivery are not good enough for me to give them my money, and I cancelled my Edge pledge because of the repeated delays during the project
Yay for more 9th Age!
Thanks for the show guys!
That 4ground prize is just amazing!
Cheers!
“A Sam-shaped Gremlin”? Who got Sam wet then fed him after midnight?
?
@dignity – so you want to see Johan from ‘Roll Models’ reforged into a Stormcast? ?
Plot progression for AoS? Hmm, how about Archaon wakes up back in the Old World and all of AoS is just a dream? ? /joke
Plot progression for 40k: exploring more Xenos sounds like a nice idea, maybe not a full blown codex, but rather a mini-dex of xenos mercenaries and the like highlighting the various lesser races mentioned in the fluff in passing.
Other than that how about the return of the Squats? They’ve been brought back in the fluff and with Necromunda, but it’d be nice to see them return in full force. What might be nice is to have two lists in the book; one covering vanilla Squats and one Chaos Squats, with the fluff covering how they’ve diverged, maybe even with the main point of divergence being centred around how they reacted to the homeworlds being munched by the ‘nids.
Returning Primarchs: as a Thousand Sons player if Russ were to return, I kinda want to see him come back mutated/warped by his time in the Eye. Doesn’t even have to be physical mutation; could be mental with him consumed by remorse for Prospero and trying to make amends to Magnus. I suppose for the sake of balance, one of the Traitor Primarchs would have to return to the gold; not sure who though, maybe Lorgar – he’s supposed to have locked himself away in his tower writing new holy books and meditating on the nature of the universe, so maybe that’s made him come full circle to renounce Chaos and worship the Emperor once more. And come to think of it that’d match up with the Russ-Magnus dynamic nicely with his interaction with Guilliman. Overall though I think maybe the Khan would be best to return as he just disappeared into the Webway.
Harry Potter minis: those Death Eaters might also be useful for Necromunda in a Cawdor/Redemptionist gang. Not sure if they’d scale well though; think they’re truescale so could work as Juves, but think they’re also a larger scale so might be too tall.
@dracs – which TK vs Bret battle rep do you remember? Iirc there was one when TKs were first released (as in had their own Army Book rather than as part of the generic Death list with Vamps I mean), and one (a rematch) a few years latter when Brets got their new book.
I’d love to see a new Hive Fleet appear in the fluff, somewhere relevant and inconsiderate to the Imperium. Vigilus book two, for example? And maybe with a new plastic lord of war, like a Dominatrix at last?
Amazing prize, too. 4Ground are brilliant.
I don’t really know 40K that well but its always been in the background and I’ve absorbed some stuff, and researched other. Since your last weekender on 40k when Warren drummed home that the Imperium cannot survive (Which I already knew) I’ve been thinking about how that story ends, about what happens at midnight, and whats left of the universe and game at 12.02am?
So the Imperium cannot survive. Does this mean that every last human is Chaos or dead? What about the Xenos? Are they all dead or Chaos too? Would Chaos rule the galaxy, row ould there end up being divine infighting reducing their armies too? Would death on such a large scale actually reduce their power due to less thought and emotion feeding the imaterium? Would the fnal fall of the galaxy create something new in the Imaterium? If the Necrons, possibly with the help of humanity (The Silent King appears to be out there and capable of seeing that the organics need preserving even if only so Necrons can harvest them later), are able to activate the Pylons will it actually kill everything with a soul? Are there ways around this? If life is wiped out in our galaxy, or falls to chaos does that affect the rest of the universe?
In short, lets say that 40k gets a spin off game/setting like they have with the Horus Heresy set at 12:02am (I’m not saying I think they would, and I’m not asking if we think they might) what would that setting look like, and what would that game look like? Can the setting survive human extinction? Would it become Mad Max/Fallout IN SPAAAACE!? Would it become a skirmish level game of mixed species colonies trying to scavange to survive while staying below Chaos’s radar? Would it need it’s own completely different rules?
As a follow on from this question, assuming this went well and GW released a new unified rules edition for HH/40K/12:02(41k?) I wonder if it might be interesting for them to aproach this with a WWII gaming mindset. One set of rules, but release different units for “early war, mid war, and late war”? Perhaps mark each box and stat card with when each item is typically seen, but allow anyone to play anything in free play because when you travel through the warp you can arrive thouands of years before or after you left if you are unlucky. With a complete reboot they could tidy up the story, remove all reference to the term “Space Marines” (When all marines are in space having space in your name is dumb and so very 1980s. It’s my pet peeve of 40k), and play though the narrative in 3 time periods with player interraction releasing new tech for each period in chronological order. They could even release new self contained battle sets for other time periods like the War in Heaven.
Surely there comes a time when we have to move on from this two minutes to midnight time period? If we sit here forever then it loses its impact and the setting stagnates. I would love to find out what happens next.
Great episode lads. I really enjoyed Artur’s pride and pleasure in his 9th Age minis. Having tried to start Bretonnians TWICE, the Knights of Aquitaine are definitely my favourites.
Weekender time again! Well age of sigmar lore… the have been something close to fallen stormcast, but not to chaos. In the novel Soul Wars (which is an awesome book) Nagash corrupts and play around with a soul from a stormcast, and ending up turning him to one of his servants. Its a really good read, and you will get some hints to some heroes from the world that was, who know is storm cast.
So some of the stormcast souls being turned into a new unit or army for death could be cool. But destruction would be awesome with some new units for groots, and the former ogere kingdoms with some new models.
If you want to read a good book where there is almost no stormcast i will higly recomend Spear of shadows. And of course the new audio drama with Gotrek 😀 (Brian Blessed is awesome ;D )
In 40k I think ive seen nurgle blessed orks, in a white dwarf back in the day. They worshipped him because they fought he was one of their gods, basically because he is green .
I dont know what i want for 40k, I love the lore ive been reading. Dark Imperium, Shoud of Night, and couple of others and for me there is plenty of meat for me. But im also a book nerd by heart.
The 9th age looks really interesting, but the models are very beautiful!
And 4Ground… you got a lot of my money, black friday… it seems you will get more in the future 🙂
TMS is one of many making minis for 9th age – Artur is a big supporter but fireforge, Lost Kingdom, and Last Sword are all other mini companies that support the 9th age project in some form!
Rule of cool!
40k: Lion El Jonson comes back and has a huge ruckus with Gulliman, winning the final fight because Cypher distracts him with a cheeky stab in the jacksy. Russ returns, the Emperor wakes up and tells him he’s adopted.
AoS: Emperor Karl Franz is in the shower. The End Times and AoS was all a bad dream. Everyone returns to their square bases and units of 50 models 😀
Well done Cad, you came across really well in this episode – you were definitely in your comfort zone for these subjects! Your idea with the Tau-ionised Space Marine is a great idea and worth exploring.
I agree that the Guard need some new sculpts, perhaps the Vigilus regiments will be introduced as the new base set, given that Cadia is no more. As a Dark Angels player, although more in line with the Fallen, I would like to see Lion back with an apology. I’ve always seen this, since reading the referenced story, as both side being manipulated by the forces of chaos but both being resistant enough to not fall fully, but too proud to admit to each other that they were wrong.
As for where Lion is better ask Cypher after all he has the Lion’s sword!
those terrain look awesome
Happy Weekend 🙂
Happy Weekend. Unfortunately I have to work this weekend.
Ok, if were talking about 40K what next, then I have to bring up a subject which seems to be Taboo every time you raise it with GW – SQUATS! Bring them back! Put them back on our table top. Reintroduce them to 40K.
Ok granted in their past incarnation they were very comic-bookey, but reinvent them as a race of space going dwarves, hard as coffin nails, nomadic miners living in huge space armadas who travel through space strip mining planets as they go. You get your new race plus you get to bring back Squats in some form!
I like your take on Squats @waywarddarkwolf.
Of course, we don’t have to wait for GW to do it. If enough players crafted it and started using it, (especially if they used some other company’s minis), then GW would have to do it to get the sales back in house. Of course it wouldn’t be tournament legal until GW writes it but hey I don’t play in any tournaments so I good!
I want my Vulkan back.
Happy Weekend!
Was it just me, or did the Weekender post on Youtube way ahead of it showing up here on the OTT site?
I’m not really into Space Marines but I actually think Sanguinius coming back to life could be quite interesting, especially with all the borderline Vampirism lore surrounding them. Imagine that, Sanguinius resurrected as some kind of Space Vampire. I think that has potential
The 9th Age is really nice system and it does what it’s supposed. Offer option for those that collected WHFB armies and prefer they fantasy armies fight in ranks when GW no longer does offer that. After all there is demand for it so why shouldn’t some one company supply that. We need to remember that lot of GW’s competition rose when they didn’t offer things like skirmish systems and fantasy american football. Also KoW’s popularity did rise after WHFB’s demise so there is demand for that kind of system. Maybe not enough for GW to bring WHFB back but still enough for other companies to do it. Besides not everyone likes or wants Sigmarines.
Great show guys! That giant 4 ground hall is definitely on my future pick up list so I can build Edoras for LOTR. Have moved out of our house here in Germany and are in the hotel. So today and tomorrrow are my last weekenders in Germany. Nice way to relax in the hotel!
For the first 30 mins they were making noise but I just didn’t have a clue what language they were using.
Fabled Realms news! I’m pumped
Maybe it was a blessing the Sam killed the other studio, the audio for this episode it really good in comparison.
That said, I have been really stuck into Rangers of Shadow Deep and need some terrain for my scenarios.
Hey @turbocooler, I bought into ‘Rangers of Shadow Deep’ too. I ordered the hard copy and have been enjoying it a lot. I’ve been using a lot of terrian that I already have from ‘Frostgrave’ and forrest terrian from my ‘Star Wars: Legion’ stuff.
I also have the hard copy and having a blast playing. I am trying to create cards right now so I do not have use table lookups. I too am using Star Wars Legion forest terrain stuff. I have Frostgrave on my xmas list and have not played yet. I am also looking at some STLs to create some houses and other structures. I am hoping the author of Rangers of Shadow Deep releases more stories.
I bieleve the author is motivated to continue writing for ‘Rangers of Shadow Deep’.
As to the STL files for terrian. I’m looking into it now as I have finally made a choice on which 3D printer to buy. I have years of 3D experience already but will need to learn the nuances of creating for 3D Print.
I’ll be on the lookout for your post with 3D terrian for ‘Rangers of Shadow Deep’.
I’d like it if GW expanded on the Exodite Background.
WW0 is the biggest news in the show. I did play a fair bit of 9th age in one of it’s previous incarnation which was closer to WHFB but I have not thouched it since leaving the UK
give a shot again – the rules are being locked down for a few years while new army books and supplements get released.
Weekender in an alternate Sam proof universe. 4ground guys have been great value this week *coughBigBencough*
Wow, what a great prize!!! Love 4Ground terrain!!!! More for my gaming club, yes please!!
Nah, Sanguinius is gone, the Sanguinor is just going to be an Alpha Legion infiltrator executing a long running but cunning plan
4Grounds buildings are amazing. I hope to win some.
I have often thought of a Space Marine company from a heretic legion, returning from the warp after the Heresy and what the implications would be. Professing loyalty to the Emperor, but held in suspicion, treated as heretics by default, perused by their Primarch to merge into the fold. I think it would be an awesome story line. Thanks for the show but have to say I’m getting saddened by the recent prize rules. Last week you had to comment on twitter, this week you have to pledge the kickstarter; the commercialization is diminishing the support as a backstager. I not interested in having an extra bite at the apple, but at least a bite.
For Age of Sigmar I’d like to see… The New Old World… a cataclysmic battle results in the Old World being reborn and Age of Sigmar becoming ancient history…
But there’s more chance of me winning the lottery than that happening…
The 4ground terrain looks stunning (as is usual for 4ground 😉 ). And I kind of do need a gaming table… here’s to hoping.
Really great show this weekend.
Hope to see Cad in backstage.
The 9th Age does sound intresting but as a KoW player I am just think those undying models would be nice in an Empire of Dust army. I hope the Kickstarter funds and the models become availble in stores as I am not a big fan of kickstarter.
with correct basing you can easily play both games with the same collections! its like historical games that way – you could even play the new Erehwon from warlord with the same collections!
Those 9th age minis are fantastic. Surprised to be honest – usually these projects born out of situations like 9th Age have frankly mediocre sculpts, but these are stellar!
Mass ranked battle was never my interest so I’m not a backer so not in for the prize, but they are certainly looking promising
TMS, Last Sword, Lost Kingdom, all have great sculpts and have been born out of their support for 9th age 🙂
Now, as for the 4ground stuff, I found the 10mm log cabin buildings to pique my interest. I wonder how out of place a little rustic village would look in dropzone….hmmmm
@avien – I’d absolutely love to see more games of DZC being played outside of the standard cities.
It would be so cool to have a game played over dense forest and mountains with little clearings with groups of cabins.
4Ground does amazing work and is crazy generous with their prizes! Can’t ever believe it. They seem like the best of people. Need to apply there. 🙂
Y’know what I want from GW? Figure out how to keep Legion of the Damned in the game in a lore friendly way and I’ll be happy.
Very nice, 9th Age.
Future of Warhammer 40k: A kind of civil war among the chaos gods, they fight each other rather than the empire. To get an advantage the chaos gods try to aquire new allies by giving them their godspecific gifts. Khorne gifts the Orks (dignity´s idea), we have Chaos Khorne Orks, Tzeentch gifts the Aeldari, Chaos Tzeentch Aeldari and so forth.
Future of Age of Sigmar: Chaos is close to winning. In order to beat Chaos the “others” have to change the past. Time travelling by means of magic is developed, the enemies of Chaos travel back though time into the era before the big “CLANG” and try to finish off one of the chaos gods in the past to bring the Chaos balance into a mis-equilibrium, so that Chaos can be finally beaten in the Age of Sigmar. Then we´d have both WHFB and AoS.
Please don´t hit me for this.
Equitari are like the WHFB Bretonians, right? Kind of advanced Bretonians, so to speak.
Equitaine is a fantasy medieval kingdom – the only similarity really is fantasy knights and the Arthurian lady of the lake mythos.
The rest goes in a different direction.
check out the-ninth-age.com for more info and fluff details!
@jemmy – I haven’t researched the newly developed lore of 9th Age, but given that the game grew out of people who didn’t want to accept that the Warhammer Old World had ended yes – the Equitain guys are clearly the Bretonian equivalents.
Top stuff guys!
for 40k I would honestly like to see Russ or Lion return next… Chaos will no doubt get Angron, probably Fulgrim, and maybe Lorgar.. The Guilliman will need some assistance from his brothers!
@dracs BORING?! My Imperium of man army challenges your space clown elves! We must settle this in the membership hall! The Imperium’s honour is at stake!
I do think that Russ and Lion are two most likely loyalist primarchs to return. Russ left by his own will and Lion is almost fully healed from his wounds. Some of least likely ones are Khan who is lost in warp and is not important enough to return and Sanguinius who is dead and should stay dead because of how important his death is to Blood Angels lore (as well as to lore of they successor chapters) so his return would ruin that.
I’m backer #45.
I have to say I love the way Age of Sigmar is developing. The fact the story progresses a little with every new army book is great and I love reading all the books just to see how the narrative develops. More destruction coverage would be good but it looks like some form of Grots is the next army book so I don’t think we’ll have to wait long.
Knickers Night.
It’s coming up, to that time of year.
That one night, when the thieves go wild and manage to do every house in town.
All you can hope for is that thief with Alzheimer’s.
Who came down your chimney last year.
knicked your bate for work the next day, but left his sack with all his goodies in behind, and how you laughed “ho ho ho”.
His Mrs watched him return upon his 9 headed monster which he locked up again in the barn and walked over to her with a skip in his step.
She called out “What the hell have you brought back this time”
but with glee, he said “The Jackpot”!
Getting inside he opened his sack “10,987 dozen carrots; 654 dozen cookies; 32 gallons of milk and found a partridge, in a pear tree”.
His Mrs then said, “with this amount of stuff you don’t need to go out for another year”.
and how they laughed. “ho ho ho”.
My wife and father have the same ability as Sam. They often look sideways at technological things and they spontaneously stop working !!
Yeah…Fill my tabletop with SAGA terrain!
I do remember nid-orks years back in the dwarf. @dracs
hmmmm so tempted by Tainted Grail but just not sure I need another KS in my life.
Happy weekend of gaming everyone.
the ninth age figures are looking fantastic.
Sanguinius woke from his long slumber and groaned. The ache of 10.000 years in his stiff limbs.
“It feels like I have slept the sleep of the dead” he muttered to himself while looking around the darkened chamber.
“Where am I? This does not feel like my Fathers throneship orbiting Terra!”
With a start he rose, sneezing violently.
“So much dust everywhere! It is as if no one has cleaned this chamber for ages!”
He brushed himself off, angelic wings unfurling behind him creating a veritable dust-storm.
“Gah! I have to get out of here!” he immediately regretted taking a breath as new fits of sneezeing overcame him as he rushed at the wall with all his might.
Breaking through with a great clamour, he entered a dimly lit corridor, musty with disuse but with far less dust. Hearing noises he turned towards them.
As footsteps approached he drew himself to his full height while wiping the sleep out of his eyes while beating his wings to blow away the dust.
A claxon blared loudly amid shouts of “INTRUDER!” behind him. “How dare you defile the resting place of our beloved father!” Figures appeared in the dusty, dark haze, obviously armed and on guard, one of them seeming to struggle with a contraption of some sort.
“Where am I? What is this place? Who are you?” Sanguinius spoke into the gloom while striding towards the figures, wings spread out behind him as a bright light suddenly shone out from the contraption, illuminating him in a halo of dust…
can never have to much terrain.
happy weekender.
I really like what the TMS did for the 9th with these miniatures. The only minis I don’t like are from the Undying dynasties(except the archers and the wizard). They just don’t feel quite right to me but that could be my inner Tomb king manifesting itself :). The Kingdom of Equitane and the Vampire covenant minis on the other hand look amazing.
So Sanguinius turned into he who shall not be named during this episode….
New crossover?
Chaos orks? They would be all Red and black, with even more skulls, I am just seeing emo orks now.
As a Blood Angels fan, I won’t do it to him.
Love it when the 4ground guys come around. Also enjoy 9th age stuff, not sure I’m hardcore enough to do anything tournament wise, but the figs look decent. Good job fellas.
4Ground stuff is always amazing!
Well ferrus manus could still be around in of of the horus heresy books fulgrim has fabius repeatedly clone him so fulgrim can try to persaude ferrus to join him, when he says no fulgrim kills him and then gets another clone. I wouldn’t be surprised if bile has at least one in storage somewhere
I want that foreground terrain, for my Saga games.
Just love the 4ground stuff absolute quality
Just love the 4ground terrain absolutely gorgeous
I wish the Kickstarter for 9th age had dwarves or orcs
for orcs – check out Knightmare games – Great range of oldschool Orc and Chaos minis.
I’ll check it out. Been buying old school plastic dwarves on ebay tho
If you want old school 90’s style dwarves, check out blacktree (eoeorbis)
Very 80’s/90’s style minis.
Happy weekend!
Always good to see Cad or any guys of 4Ground on the show and thanks for the mega prize! Whoever is going to win this will be a lucky one.
I too hope for 40K that the xenos evolve a bit, espacialy the Tau (i play them)! It would be good to finaly have auxiliaries of the human variety (disgruntled imperial guards or even marines…) or even maybe a new race or one that goes away…
There was at least one Chaos Ork model released in the 40k rogue trader era. I also seem to remember that the original fluff for the Stormboyz were they were followers of the militaristic aspects of Khorne. Also you had the freebooterz chaos renegade warbands.
Sad to see the 9th age KS looking like it is going to fail to fund. only a third on it’s way to the funding goal after three weeks and only a week left. Might this have something to do with the time of year?
@maledrakh – Stormboyz weren’t by definition followers of Khorne. Being interested in militarism (rather than just fighting for fun), they were a bit more likely to become interested in Khorne than your average ork, but most of them didn’t go down this route.
In the original ‘Freebooterz’ ork supplement, which had the rules for 3 of the main clans and then about 30 different types of Freebooter units, Khorne Stormboyz were a specific unit that you could take. But as I say, all of the normal clans (possibly with the exception of Snakebites?) had non-chaos worshipping Stormboyz.
For the narrative sake of 40K I hope Sanguinius stays dead. For the modelling sake of the game, I hope they find a cool way of bringing him back!
I think for me one thing I would like to see in the development of the 40K story is Roboute Guiliman making his mark on the organisation of the Imperium. This is a kind of counterintuitive thing to hope for, as I love the grim dark, but having brought him back, I think that to be true to him, they need to have him make a difference where he can most make a difference i.e. in leadership and organisation.
However powerful he may be as a warrior, he can only be on one planet / warzone at a time, so he would have much more impact – as he would know – by overhauling the administration of the Imperium, empowering devolved administrations, encouraging science and entrepreneurship, etc.
Not sure what that would look like, but I think it’s something they should explore.
4ground
Great show as always guys, and it was enjoyable having Cad on as a special guest!
As far as 40K goes I eagerly anticipate the eventual release of the Lion for 30K and 40K. I don’t hope for it, I expect it! Lol
I am enjoying the exploration into the more unusual elements of the lore: New Necromunda, Rogue Trader and Blackstone Fortress are great. I’d like more of that, but if they could focus on some more Xenos elements too, that’d be awesome!
Of course… GW has to consider what would actually sell as well…
4Ground is such a great company. Glad to see them visit the set
Great weekender guys! Like the looks of the Tainted Grail. Always good to see the 4Ground guys. Too bad Ben from 4Ground was not on or we would know all the secrets!
Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet as trying to read through the comments with a baby trying to grab phone a tad difficult …
in regards to dead primarchs coming back remember they are as much warp entity as body , so really most could come back on my view … the only one that shouldn’t in my view is Horus ( I’m a massive chaos player by the way) as it was the final duel with Horus that the emperor used all his might to sever Horus both physically and spiritually from the warp… and ended up on the golden toilet for his endeavours …. so really most primarchs are fair game… just hope they do some standard size chaos ones…. really don’t need any more massive ones!
I would like to see a resurgence of 40k RPG game that came out 8 years ago. Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader seem interesting enough. i just didnt have anyone that was interested in 40k universe at the time.
Love some awesome terrain to get ready for my fabled realms delivery next year 🙂
I have my batch of 4 Ground coming this week. Would love some for my SAGA and fantasy.
I love the look of the 10mm stuff.
Great show. Always good to hear from 4Ground and I love the 10mm stuff they are coming out with. That looks so versatile and as a 10mm player I’m looking forard to gaming through towns and villages very soon.
So much terrain.. so little space… lol… so many games… such little space… I guess I need more space!!!
My entry for the 4-Ground terrain!
The Love of Sanguinius:
My love for The Emperor is like the raging void,
So powerful and deep and impossible to avoid.
Through chaos, blood, and millions slain,
It will withstand every pain.
4 ground just makes the best terrain!!
He was a great guest appearance. Glad he stayed for whole show.
I can appreciate the stuff that Foreground is doing for sure, and you guys are awesome with all of the great giveaways.
I have to say, though, I’m really really tired of 40K and Sigmar related news. I know that I’m likely in the minority, and that GW has been putting out product at least once per month that you guys probably feel obligated to cover, but even the regular discussion topics have been about 40K, 30K, Space Hulk, Necromunda, Kill Team, etc. etc.
There is so much more going on in the realm of gaming! There was and is all kinds of things coming out of SteamForgedGames, just as an example. Tons of player changes for Season 4, and now the stories they’re releasing with players dying and allegiances changing… it’s crazy good stuff.
I’m sure there’s other news coming out of Corbus Bell and other companies as well, that I just don’t see talked about, for the most part.
Again, I’m likely in the minority, but I watch BoW for perspectives on a lot of stuff, but this fall has been sooo Warhammer centric, imo.
Loved some of the Let’s Play videos though. I was especially entertained by Reich Busters. 🙂
Hello Beasts of War Team! BoW now and FOREVER!
What I would like to see in 40k…A book for “Regiments of Renown”. Like some some new units for all the armies. Like Imperial Guard Rough Riders, with LasGuns instead of their one time use Lances. So you could do ‘Cowboys’, Rangers, Mounties of Canada. Those people that uses horses to get around the world. Give them options for maybe Carapase Armor, Power Lances and maybe make them Veterans some how. New Special Eldar Units or even more alien units for the Tau. It would be nice to have more options.
Another interesting one
Glad to see 9th Age is still going. Nice to have alternate mass fantasy battle games going strong!
This one was a fun show! The 9th Age KS looks good, I like those guys in Poland, doing awesome stuff.
The Harry Potter minis look interesting! The Knight Models team do good work!
Gotta love Cad
That is some serious prize from 4ground, nicely timed to the new Vikings series.
Great show as usual guys. If I were to change something about 40k, I’d also like to see more humans going away from the Imperium. I would want them to go anywhere but to Chaos.
Happy belated weekend everyone! Great episode, always fun to see the 4ground guys and their genuine love for the hobby.
