Dorethea Gayle my own character for Wild West Exodus. (She’s good with dogs and teleports)

Backstory:

Whenever the good folks of Tombstone talk about young Dorethea Gayle, they almost always end with “Well…The poor girl’s been through a lot” and shake their heads with a smile at hearing about the odd young woman’s latest escapade

There’s no denying that Dorethea HAS been through a lot and equally there’s no denying that she is not only quite odd but also odd and sometimes tragic events seemed to always happen around her.

The story goes that Dorethea, born in Kansas, lost both her parents at a young age to the flu epidemic of 1865 and was taken in by her Aunt and Uncle. On her Uncle’s farm she grew up healthy, happy and loved by nearly all who met her.

Things changed the day the twister came.

The farm was almost completely destroyed and Dorethea then only 14, caught out in the storm, was not seen for several days, she was found wandering in a Delirious state, Her left arm broken beyond healing, but still accompanied by her Dog Toto, whose barking led her rescuers to her.

It was a miracle she had survived at all, so much so in fact, that the local Church of the Holy Order of Man, took an interest and it’s congregation raised enough to pay not only for Doctors to treat the stricken girl but also for a wonderful mechanical replacement for her broken limb, powered by the latest Galvanic energies rather than foul smelling RJ.

And so Dorethea’s body slowly healed but it seemed her mind would take longer. At 1st She told stories of the magical shining place she believed she had seen in the storm. But later She no longer found joy in the world, saying that all the colours were grey.

Worried for his Niece and facing financial ruin. Uncle Henry decided to pack up what he had left to take his family west. They settled in Tombstone and opened a general store. The business did well but despite prosperity Dorothea’s mental state continued to decline and she withdrew further from the world eventually she stopped speaking altogether.

Strangely It was yet another traumatic event that reversed this.

In the spring of this year her family had taken her out of town for a picnic hoping to raise her spirits. But they stumbled upon a dark ritual of a Hex coven led by a crazed crone with glowing skin.

Toto died trying to defend his mistress, and were it not for the timely intervention of Marshal Earp and Doc Holliday backed up with K9 support the family would have died as well.

What was strange though was instead if being further traumatised by the event, it seemed to wake Dorethea from her withdrawal.

Well, Kind of…

Although having never met either lawman she greeted then as if they were old friends, calling Them “Lion” and “Scarecrow” and asking the whereabouts of a “Tinman”. The death of her beloved dog didn’t seem to register with her. She simply began talking to one of the Gun dogs as if it were her own Toto.

From that day on Dorethea was more like her old self. Full of joy and kindness, she makes friends wherever she goes. Indeed hardened killers will tip their hats and wish her good morning. Only Ike Clanton has ever been rude to her after that whenever she was around he was dogged by the most bizarre bad luck for weeks until he apologised. Soaked to the skin, covered in manure, set his hat on fire twice, you name it. Once he apologised it all stopped. He crosses the street now whenever he sees her.

There’s other odd things about her too, She stares at things only she can see. She’ll burst into song at the drop of a hat, She talks to animals and they seem to understand her. The Marshal’s K9s have all been acting like real dogs since she met them, she regularly takes them all for walks around town.
She sleepwalks, and is often found in the early hours of the morning wandering around town despite the fact Her uncle keeps her bedroom locked.

She’s still looking for the Tinman.
