Yaaargh mateys! A copy and paste!

Welcome All to another Hobby Weekender! As per tradition started generations ago, and handed down from wise elders, the intro blurb is shamelessly cut and paste below once again and possibly for all time…:

To the uninitiated, this is a virtual hobby hangout here on the forum. It is something fun and silly with a little more ‘oomph’. Its not just show and tell with your models. Its chatting, getting to know one another, community building. Think of it as a sort of club like hobby session. Everyone is welcome, of course, and there are a few rules to abide by. Let it go as OT as you like with chatting with folks. BoW/OTT is a special, unique community, and this little weekly thread is a tradition on these forums. Though not for everyone, if you are still reading and keen, then it is for you. If not, best click out.

We do a few things on this thread that usually lasts from Friday or Saturday til about Wednesday or Thursday. My say is final in this silly little corner of the internet. Fear not, for this is your safe place against the outside world of flame wars, trolling and all that other crap.

    (1) Make a pledge for the weekend. It can be painting, assembly, priming, converting, background writing, terrain, you name it. Just gotta be relevant to hobbying or gaming.

    (2) Chat with people. Be friendly. Do get to know one another, be kind, provide positive reinforcement and constructive criticism. Do not post up your real name, credit card, bank details or home address info.

    (3) I will list out questions. Answer them. Longer answers = more points. Also, points are being assigned to something else as it confused some folk for a while.

    (4) Awards will be given out at the end of the thread and you shall be awarded XP, added to your account profile by the wonderful @lancorz . Think of him as the ever vigilant Batman of the forums who keeps a careful eye on the status quo, but also acts in a way, like Alfred; with a calm disposition and the attentive nature of a concierge.

    (5) Scottish Pub Law rules: no discussion of religion or politics**. Keep it clean. Behave. Be nice, be kind. Walk away if you get angry. Don’t be a dick.

Also there are bonuses for the following ‘Achievements’:
    · Most Valuable Player (most engaged with topic)
    · Fire Starter (topic starter, encourages the member circulation)
    · Hobby Champ (most hobby over the weekend)
    · Meme Lord (ryhmes, funnies & memes)
    · Pun-Tertainment (best pun)
    · Brush Licker (painting & terrain)
    · Headliner DJ (most eclectic music)
    · Armchair Commander (weekend battle reports)
    · Community Usher (helpful & engaged)
    · Storyteller (weekly discussion & story)

Note: All points are awarded in fictional currencies… sometimes

To get the conversation started, this week’s questions! Now with 17% more impromptu enthusiasm! For no apparent reason!…

Tell me a yaaaarghn and give me a detailed answer to work with and get some convo going with it 😉

    1. What board, card or tabletop game would you like to see be made again in print?

For me it’s the original Heroquest. I want it.

    2. What new game or hobby release has you excited?

GW announced a lot of stuff recently. I could wax lyrical about it. What I want though is the new 40k pop vinyls.

    3. That was something new and old in my last two questions. Is there anything different you are doing lately with the hobby which you are enjoying?

    4. What games are you eager to play lately?

This week me hearties ye have a chance to earn gold dubloons!

Signed, sealed and delivered! I second that vote.

    2. What new game or hobby release has you excited?

Well there is word of Dark Tower coming back….

    3. That was something new and old in my last two questions. Is there anything different you are doing lately with the hobby which you are enjoying?

Oh yes… yeeees indeed… *maniacal laughter* but I can’t tell yet… must not share the secret… noooo mustn’t tell… no no *hysterical giggling* It will be so…. wholesome… *evil grin* it will bring everything together…

    4. What games are you eager to play lately?

Star Wars: Legion. simple as that. Painting and building is releaxing, watching the movies for…. um “colour accuracies” and such things… and games played are a relaxing evening off. Much needed “me” time and selfcare.

But now you have to excuse me….

    Aargh matey! 10 Dubloons!

    @sundancer

10 Dubloons for agreeing with me on question one.

What is Return to Dark Tower?

    Three is cryptic, me hearty!

15 Dubloons for the link to the batrep.

Also, I want to go back to Legion too but it is not next on my list. Just finished Goblin Town and assembling some stuff with no rhyme nor reason for fun before I get back on track with hobby and my schedule.

I just finished Titans on Netflix and it is amazing. It does a better job of setting up and showing of an ensemble superhero team with you giving half a feck about the characters, world they are in, and everything else. It is what the DCEU should have been imho.

Im now watching Season 2 of Star Trek Discovery. It does not disappoint.

I also have my son up later.

My hobby pledge this weekend is to finish my  Mordheim Ogre. Gonna keep it short and sweet because my priority for custody is dad-ing. No D&D this weekend as most of the group is busy so an easy chance to relax and chill.

    Also this looks amazing

I bought two issues  of conquest and a spaceship for Starlink on the Switch too.

What is Return to Dark Tower?

@mage it’s basically a re-release of the old game “Dark Tower”. See add here:

At the time of release I was six and nowhere near able to buy that thing… nor would any of my parents do it 😉

    Three is cryptic, me hearty!

    Only a little bit 😉

    1. HeroQuest original. Of course. Not copying – that was genuinely it.

    2. BlitzBowl looks like the kind of fast-paced, strategic sports sim that Blood Bowl tried to be. I remember soaking up all the fluff about different teams in the late 80s and really getting into the game… then discovering I didn’t actually like the mechanics!

    3. I’m practicing soldering 0805 sized LEDs (Google them if that’s meaningless) and unnecessarily shoe-horning lights into all kinds of tabletop pieces. I’ve got some super-tiny stepper motors I need to incorporate into some terrain; maybe sliding sci-fi doors or something….

    4. I quite fancy trying out KillTeam. Just as soon as work is out of the way, I reckon a visit to Brighton’s Dice Saloon is in order to see who’s around and who can teach me the ropes!

    Weekend pledge:

    I finished making this – https://www.beastsofwar.com/project-entry/1349250/

Well, I got it functional, doing everything I wanted it to do. But it’s obviously still not absolutely complete. So my pledge is to make a fully completed acrylic version over the weekend and have it boxed up and ready to post in to Beastie HQ on Monday…

I apologise for my current Pro Mantic bias. It’s justified though.

    1. What board, card or tabletop game would you like to see be made again in print?

Chainsaw Warrior. Apparently, @evilstu, solo gaming is a thing and this was almost the original. Expanding it out, some cool figures and boards and a clock app. I should make this myself!

    2. What new game or hobby release has you excited?

Interested to see Talisman return but the Hellboy game looks amazeballs. Seen a few painting guides and I really want him to paint.

    3. That was something new and old in my last two questions. Is there anything different you are doing lately with the hobby which you are enjoying?

My first Pathfinder event is tomorrow so that. I can’t wait.

    4. What games are you eager to play lately?

Top 3, Kings of War Vanguard, Adeptus Titanicus and umm something else. I’m not getting much playing in so literally anything I play already.

What board, card or tabletop game would you like to see be made again in print?

What game/s would I like to see in print again? Well, I can say that there are games that I wanted to see that did get rereleased. 7th Sea, Legend of the Five Rings, Blood Bowl, Necromunda all were put back into the world with quite a bit of love and affection that shows.

Maybe if Changeling the Lost got reworked, as I think it was in the process of doing, it would be good by me. I’ll also add Mordheim as a tabletop. Sculpts have come so far that the modular nature of playing WYSIWYG could be interesting. You have a few that lose limbs, no need to snip them off, just pop off that part and play on.

What new game or hobby release has you excited?

Releases that are upcoming are things I try to avoid getting too much info for. The shiny is bright with these ones. I also have found out that I’ll be moving soon and both wait time and mobility after receiving are things that affect the “Oooh” factor

Is there anything different you are doing lately with the hobby which you are enjoying?

I’m enjoying the ability to see more work done. With the goals roster I have a focus that I can work with. I’m realizing how much I enjoy the banter among all you nuts while I see the gaming that I’m involved in dwindles. The geekery I can share helps weather the banality of stuff going on around that isn’t so pleasant.

What games are you eager to play lately?

I am eager to play The Quest for Eldorado, Poo, or Nuts as they are good entry games for Snag-A-Normie month. I also am looking forward to getting my hands on Brutality and War for Chicken Island from Kickstarter.

Off to work and I’ll post more later

    1. HeroQuest original. Of course. Not copying – that was genuinely it.

No worries! Seems popular! 10 dubloons.

    2. BlitzBowl looks like the kind of fast-paced, strategic sports sim that Blood Bowl tried to be. I remember soaking up all the fluff about different teams in the late 80s and really getting into the game… then discovering I didn’t actually like the mechanics!

It does look like fun, I keep forgetting it exists though with it being like a German exclusive or something? I played Bloodbowl a few times and people say how good it is but man it feels like snakes and ladders with needing high dice rolls for everything. I do think Dreadball is a better game tbh. 10 dubloons

That sounds like a very small area to solder. Star Trek doors?!?! 10 dubloons

    4. I quite fancy trying out KillTeam. Just as soon as work is out of the way, I reckon a visit to Brighton’s Dice Saloon is in order to see who’s around and who can teach me the ropes!

Me too. Im going to get the rogue trader set once I have all my debt paid off (just the credit card and rebuliding one savings account left to go, which is good). Itll be my reward for being good. 10 dubloons.

15 dubloons for what you have done with the pldge so far and 10 points er dubloons for the peldge itself. Sending it into bow eh? Cool!

    @woldenspoons (35 Dubloons)

Pro mantic bias? What? If so, so what! You enjoy what you enjoy.

    1. What board, card or tabletop game would you like to see be made again in print?

Chainsaw warrior eh? Old school! 10 Dubloons. You very well could make it yourself… 😉

    2. What new game or hobby release has you excited?

Me too! I want a Legend of elda one. Expand on the type of Talisman? The new one or the ones licensed out to to USAopoly? Havent been following hellboy much, tell us more.

    Which guides?

    10 Dubloons

    3. That was something new and old in my last two questions. Is there anything different you are doing lately with the hobby which you are enjoying?

Define event, and what do you mean by Pathfinder? Is it like a rep thing for a game or is it more the actual RPG of the same name? 5 dubloons.

    4. What games are you eager to play lately?

Titcanicus looks tasty but the only thing I have any interest in with Mantic is Dreadball. 10 Dubloons. Tell us more about your plans for Titanicus.

Question 1 – 15 Dubloons, glad you like the games that were re-released, and I too miss Mordheim. As for the sculpts I miss the old ones and trawl ebay for them when the fancy takes me. I want them to keep making metal models in this style! Just for Mordheim. Changeling is an interesting choice too.

Question 2 – Well, you are allowed to dream too right? 5 Dubloons, I pity the effort of moving.

Question 3 – Goals roster? Pic! Banter is always enjoyable isnt it? Feels like more than a forum if that makes sense. And of course I just ramble and ramble and ramble and oooooh a blue car! 10 Dubloons

Question 4 – Tell me about the Quest for Elodrado. Poo and nuts feel like they’ll make me get sick haha. Tell us about Brutality and War for Chicken. 5 Dubloons.

    Hope work goes by quickly.

    Pledge?

Time to go to the supermarket, come home and watch some star trek discovery. Maybe play some Octopath traveller, and maybe assemble some Primaris Marines and add more paint to my Mordheim Ogre.

    Hey Everyone!

    @mage thanks for hosting!

    Kicking off with question responses:

    1. What board, card or tabletop game would you like to see be made again in print? For me it’s the original Heroquest. I want it.

Tough call – most of the classics can be reproduced to some degree. heroquest, for instance, if you were to look at the stuff Zealot Minis creates, you can easily see where the inspiration for a lot of the terrain elements and minis comes from. So it’s just a case of snagging the dice, cards and board (or an equivalent proxy) online form somewhere. I’m sort toying with the idea of doing a Mordheim 20th anniversary project (yep, it’s been that long…) so maybe I’ll put that down? I know, nobody saw it coming…

    2. What new game or hobby release has you excited? GW announced a lot of stuff recently. I could wax lyrical about it. What I want though is the new 40k pop vinyls.

Rangers of Shadow Deep. Really keen to give it a go. And the new Frostgrave wizards plastic box looks great too. 20 different head options! that kit is pretty much conversion fodder….

    3. That was something new and old in my last two questions. Is there anything different you are doing lately with the hobby which you are enjoying?

Am presently enjoying revisiting ‘classic’ Warhammer armies, partly inspired by Warhammer Total war II (when it’s not crashing…) and partly by this incredible blog:

    http://warhammerarmiesproject.blogspot.com/

Really good content, and some well thought out alternative lists. plus every army gets an 8th (or 9th…) ed refresh so Brets no longer need to make do with 6h ed rules 🙂 Plus now I want to do a Norsca army and a Pirates of Sartosa force. Plus maybe some Estallians using historical mins… Because why work on 7 armies simultaneously when you can be doing 12?…

    4. What games are you eager to play lately?

As mentioned a 2, Rangers of Shadow Deep. Also keen to play Frostgrave a bit more, get in a few more games of WHFB 8th ed and hopefully some Sharp Practice when I finish the last few units I need…

My pledge for the week will be doing a paintathon – day 1 progress here (as I’m way too lazy to retype…):

Paintathon Update – Day 1; Saturday
