A very nice book and a good set off rules. It covers from the war of the Spanish succession 1701-1714 up to the second Sudan war 1896-1898.The only thing is they wrote this book played on a table 6ft wide and 10 to 14ft long with huge army’s so you’ll have to scale everything down. There is a formula at the back of the book to work out what points each unit will cost if you want to make army’s to a certain amount of points.
Very nice “Old School” rulesystem. Quite easy to pick up. I play it with 20mm Napoleonics, and hey you’ll finish a game in just 3-4 hours with hundreds of models er side.
give it a go
Use BP for 15mm ACW works really well. on a 6×4 table we use centimetres for distances rather than inches without any problems.
I think the guys missed a couple of things with the video. The “factions” comments limit the the true scope of the rules. I mean they can be used for conlficts from 1700 to 1900 which inculdes the wars of Marlbough, 7 Years War through to the Carlist Wars, Franco Pussian Wars and the Boer War and the variety of nationalities involved. Also if I was to be really picky the comments about no points system see Appendix 4 p 178-179. The scenarios apart from Freemans Farm are not historical but are based on historical actions. It was good but… Read more »
I think if i ever get napoleonic miniatures, I’ll definietly follow these rules.
ah so you could do Franco-Prussian war 😀
guy’s you kept talking about rolling load’s and load’s of dice. I really want to see you guys do the some high level showcasing o Hail Caesar. It is a black powder systeam with some really nice twist, I love the way they do combat so please make it happen!
more historical please.
Its a good game and you can use different scales from 10mm t0 28mm with ease, so you can cater the rules to suit your miniatures.
This would be nice if plaed as trial game showing us some examples of game play at some stage?
Sounds like a very interesting system. The rules sound like the capture the historical realities of musket battles (units fire not individuals). The flexible scale is nice but with the movement rules smaller 20mm or 15 mm armies might be easier to game with.
Sadly like a lot of historical rules these days its far too generic, tries to cover too big a period of history
