Mierce Miniature’s Mighty Krekkek Is Nearly Finished
August 19, 2015 by deltagamegirl22
It wasn't that long ago that we had a look at the fantastic, scaly lizard in the works from Mierce Miniatures.
I thought it looked pretty amazing then, but it looks even more epic now! Take a look at the spikes on this guy! Krekkek is the Bull Sávrakh of the Khthones and will undoubtedly have a commanding presence in the very near future.
Mierce Miniatures continue to make some of the best looking monsters and heroes in the industry with plenty of bredth and scale to their range. It will be interesting to see what they do next.
What do you think of this scaly beast?

Another great sculpt from Mierce I like their miniatures and have collected some mimis for another faction …..but they are so expensive , based on some of the other other minis available now I wouldn’t be surprised if this is priced somewhere between £40 & £60 which to the average gamer I reckon is unsustainable over time particularly when the rank and file minis set you back around £50 for 10/even more for monstrous infantry. Their recent Kickstarter that bought out cheaper metal minis as an alternative to the resin helps a bit but if you want to get into the Darklands game and have a competative force you need to spend big bucks!
I have played the game a few times with their quick starter rules but it still.seems overly complicated and always seems to end up with a huge brawl in the centre of the board which isn’t much fun ( not helped by there being no scenarios as yet…although you could make up your own)….maybe when the full rulebook comes out soon and more ranged troops and the magic system comes into play it may become.more fun. Just don’t expect an AOS / KOW pick up and play experience from this.
I couldn’t agree more, I too love the miniatures, I got two small war bands (Angelcynn and Norse). I’d love to get a cavalry heroes and some of the monsters but can’t afford them, they are just to steeply priced for me.
I also found the rules more complex than need be and ended in mass melee. More terrain and objectives could help.
The names within the factions reflect this sense of complexity (e.g. dungann, oghurithne unund, brynhild gunnblindi, gythja of hrafnen…). On one hand I can’t criticise them for the originality of their setting. But given it it is meant to represent Dark Ages Europe they could have used well-known references (real or mythological) to make the game more accessible.
I backed the Darklands kickstarter for the rulebook in 2013. At that time I thought it would be a small skirmish game and didn’t mind the prices much. Since then the game seems to have expanded to a scale that for me is no longer economically interesting. Also the rules seem complex for complexity’s sake, so my interest has dropped considerably.
Also I’m slightly annoyed that there is still no rulebook after two years.
Totally with you there Wrinkle as far as the book is concerned I believe it’s at or going to the printers as we speak so fingers crossed …..its still possible to play small encounters but most of the people I know who play just seem to be adding big beasties and to counter that you either need to do the same or get loads of infantry which moves it away from the skirmish side of things…the latest army lists I have show cavalry and may more infantry units to come for my faction Angelcynn(werewolves) but I just won’t be able to afford to keep up with the arms race!…..it seems to me a number of former Warhammer 8th edition players are getting on board as they miss the complexity…I’m supposedly down to play test this with a friend but since I’ve got the latest set of rules and profiles and set up diagrams….(.its incredibly wordy/ beardy!) I’ve lost the will to carry on….I’m sure many more well versed/experienced than myself/hardcore wargamers will find it enjoyable and saviour the complexity. …..but I’m going to stick with AOS possibly KOW or maybe try Frostgrave…….Still love the Mierce miniatures though a pleasure to build and paint even if the infantry minis are a bit fragile….( bendy spears and snapped of ankles)….just can’t justify having spent over £200.00 on just 18 models!
I also backed the first KS and got the rulebook from the second one, and my experience has been pretty much the same. The rules are overly complex, they’re taking too long to come out, and the game is a lot bigger than it looked like it would be when the first KS launched. I’ve long since checked out of the game and I don’t have the funds to keep buying the minis, even at KS prices.
…nice mini, though 🙂 .
nice very 70s movies look to it.
