About the Project
Lately, I've been running war games every weekend with members of the community via web conference. Players log on and play wargames with each other in real time, regardless of location, and we usually have at least a couple spectators as well. Many times it’s been Darkstar, but we’re also running wargames in Panzer Leader, Arab-Israeli Wars, and now Valor & Victory.
BoW/OTT community members @brucelea, @damon, @davehawes, and @rasmus have taken the plunge, leading battalions across thousands of meters of desert, starfleets in pitched battles across the heavens, or vicious firefights in the jungles of Vietnam, all without leaving the comfort of their home.
Hard-core, old-school command-tactical wargames can now be run (complete with spectators and recordings) in real time, with BOTH PLAYERS moving pieces across THE SAME virtual game board, thus maintaining player agency, speedy and instant results (no play by e-mail), interwoven turn sequences, any questions / feedback instantly received and addressed, and with the game being virtually recorded as it goes, a ready-made battle report can actually be created as we go.
All of this without the players having to install any new software on their computer, on any platform (PC or Mac). All that's needed is to agree on a time, a handful of dice, and a bellyful of courage!
Every weekend can now be a boot camp! All without costing me thousands of dollars in airfare, too!

Seven Days to the River Rhine, Breakthrough Scenarios, Helicopters, Tactical Advantage Cards
Here is the replay of yesterday’s stream, where I tried a “Breakthrough Scenario” for Seven Days to the River Rhine.
I’m also trying attack helicopters for the first time, as well as the Tactical Advantage Cards that come with the game.
Might make a fun listen while painting or hobbying. Hope you like it!
Seven Days to the River Rhine, a Newcomer's Second Tray at a New System
Greeting everyone! Join us for a live stream where I set up a second table for Seven Days to the River Rhine.
In this scenario, the Soviets have massed a much larger force, ready to smash a breakthrough assault through a thin line of West Germans armor, mechanized infantry, and harried reserves.
We’ll be trying out new units, expanded rules, and the tactical advantage cards we didn’t have for last game.
I hope some of you will join us! Drop by, say hello, and make some comments to become part of the show!

Team Yankee with Piotr - Missions, Minefields, and Melting!
Piotr and Arek brave the sweltering 40C heat to bring us another deep-dive discussion on Team Yankee.
This time the focus is on Missions, Reserves, and Minefields, listing different types and how they play on the table … all while trying not to melt in the summer heat.
We hope you like it everyone!
Marines vs. Marines Deathmatch - Tulagi 1942
Here is a replay of our Sunday wargame stream, where Piotr and Oriskany Jim pitted “Marine vs. Marine” in a shootout between US Marines of 1st Raider Battalion and Japanese Marines of 3rd Kure SNLF.
The game was set up as an 80th Anniversary commemoration of assault on Tulagi in the Solomon Islands, 7 August 1942.
This was the first major combat in the Solomons campaign, the first big step for the Americans in the long “Road to Tokyo” that would burn its way across the Pacific in World War II.
The system is Valor & Victory by Barry Doyle – map and counters by myself.
Might make for a fun listen while hobbying or painting!
American and Japanese Marines in a Death Match 80 Years Ago Today!
Marines vs. Marines? This … will get messy.
Join Oriskany Jim and Piotr as they face off in another anniversary wargame smackdown. This time we’re looking at the assault on Tulagi Island, a landing undertaken alongside Guadalcanal on 7 August, 1942. It’s one of the first “hit-and-stay” landings that begins the long road to Tokyo in the Pacific Theater of World War II.
The system we’ll be using is the classic Valor & Victory WW2 squad-based tactical system, pitting the leathernecks of 2nd Battalion / 5th Marines and elements of 1st Marine Raider Battalion (Edson’s Raiders) against Japanese Marines of the 3rd Kure Special Naval Landing Force (SNLF).
So it’s Marines vs. Marines in an all-out jungle smackdown.
Yeah, this won’t be pretty.

As we can see, Tulagi and Guadalcanal was just one of the initial steps in the much larger "Operation Cartwheel" undertaken in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. Australian and New Zealand forces would also play key rolls. The fighting on Tulagi would be wrapped up on the second day. Guadalcanal would grind on for months until newspapers called Guadalcanal "The Stalingrad of the Pacific." Sitrep Podcast - 7DttRR, Guadalcanal, Jungle Warfare on Your Tabletop!
Join the Sitrep Team for another live podcast, where we review our hobby, the hobby projects from our community, and what’s happening in the world of historical wargaming.
We also review Oriskany’s recent first experience with “Seven Days to the River Rhine” by Great Escape Games.
Finally, we’ll look briefly at the Guadalcanal Campaign, which started in the Pacific Theater of World War II 80 years ago this weekend (7 August 1942). This was one of America’s first large-scale experience in jungle warfare, especially in the Asia-Pacific theater, and would eventually see the first major commitment of units like the 25th “Tropic Lightning” US Infantry Division.
What are your thoughts about jungle warfare? Have you tried it on your game table? What special rules do you use? Any favorite jungle battles or campaigns?
And when did it get so HOT in here? And where did all these BUGS from from?

Seven Days to the River Rhine - First Game Playthrough Video
Join Oriskany Jim as he stumbles and fumbles through his first few turns of “Seven Days to the River Rhine” by Great Escape Games.
It’s 1985, the Soviets have invaded West Germany, and a small Bundeswehr armored force is attaempting a local counterattack!
Also, I apologize for the bad audio in this video. Looks like I was getting RF interference on my wireless headset mike. I have tested a new hard-wired mike that will eliminate this issue in the future.
Thanks very much.
