About the Project

Lately, I've been running war games every weekend with members of the community via web conference. Players log on and play wargames with each other in real time, regardless of location, and we usually have at least a couple spectators as well. Many times it’s been Darkstar, but we’re also running wargames in Panzer Leader, Arab-Israeli Wars, and now Valor & Victory.

BoW/OTT community members @brucelea, @damon, @davehawes, and @rasmus have taken the plunge, leading battalions across thousands of meters of desert, starfleets in pitched battles across the heavens, or vicious firefights in the jungles of Vietnam, all without leaving the comfort of their home.

Hard-core, old-school command-tactical wargames can now be run (complete with spectators and recordings) in real time, with BOTH PLAYERS moving pieces across THE SAME virtual game board, thus maintaining player agency, speedy and instant results (no play by e-mail), interwoven turn sequences, any questions / feedback instantly received and addressed, and with the game being virtually recorded as it goes, a ready-made battle report can actually be created as we go.

All of this without the players having to install any new software on their computer, on any platform (PC or Mac). All that's needed is to agree on a time, a handful of dice, and a bellyful of courage!

Every weekend can now be a boot camp! All without costing me thousands of dollars in airfare, too!

Live Stream: Anniversary of "Case Yellow" (10 May 1940)

Greetings all:  Today is 10 May, the anniversary of Germany’s great blitzkrieg in the West, where they invaded the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France.  Within six weeks it would result in the fall of Western Europe, but before that it would spark the first large tank v. tank engagement of military history, the Battle of Hannut (sometimes called the Battle of Merdop) on 12-13 May, 1940.

In this battle, elements of two French “cavalry” divisions, 2nd and 3rd Division Légère Mécanique (Light Mechanized Divisions – formed into the French Cavalry Corps under Henri Prioux), would collide more or less head-on with the leading spearhead of 3rd and 4th Panzer Divisions (XVI Motorized Corps, Erich Höpner) at these Belgian towns of Hannut and Merdorp.

The French actually did rather well in the first day’s engagement, but would rather be cracked open by German reinforcements and airpower.

Join us for a quick look at part of the battle through a few demo turns of Panzer Leader, our way of commemorating and abserving the seismic historical events through gaming.

Swing by and check us out if you’re not in bed, and be part of the show!

Good afternoon everyone:

Here is the replay from yesterday’s stream, where we went over the design process, scenarios, and ran a quick live playtest for the Stalingrad DLC (designed by the SITREP Podcast) recently rolled out for Yobowargames / Slitherine / Matrix release of Barry Doyle’s Valor & Victory.

That’s right, folks … the Sitrep Podcast is officially in the video game business with the recent release of the Stalingrad DLC for Valor & Victory by Yobowargames.

For this release, Oriskany Jim was contracted to research, design, build, and test a series of Valor & Victory scenarios (V&V original game by Barry Doyle) set in the brutal Battle of Stalingrad – fought on the Eastern Front in 1942-43.

We’ll be taking a brief overview of the research, design, and construction process, and how it all translates to the screen in a video game platform.

Released by Matrix and Slitherine Games and available on Steam, this DLC allows you to play as either the Germans or Soviets, and includes the full V&V ruleset including snipers, valorous units, artillery barrages, air strikes, tanks, transport units, and towed antitank guns.

The game also allows you to modify and design your own scenarios for near endless re-playability.

Join us for our stream and become part of the show!

It’s time to slap a little color on some tabletop armor. I’m painting these T-80s in “Eastern European Generic” camouflage scheme so I can use them either as 1980s Soviet, 1990s-2000s Russian for games in the Chechen Wars, or 2020s Ukrainian for more modern conflicts.
