About the Project

I'm slowly putting together a 40k army. It ways something I always wanted when I got started in the hobby in the late 90's, and now i've decided that i'm a grown up and I can have lots of tiny fighting men! I can spend my money how I want to! I'm and adult and I decide!! So after my wife allowed me to get a 3D printer (I may be an adult, but I'm not stupid) I set to, putting together an Imperial Guard Army. Its slow going, especially with a baby in the house, but i'm getting there. So here are a few bits. In no particular order and with no timeframe in mind. Lets be honest, its more likely that the next edition of 40k will beat this army to the tabletop, but if i'm honest, i'm in this for the spectacle not the playing.

4 Legs Good, 2 Legs Bad

Lets start by saying i always disliked the IG sentinels, any 2 legged walkers for that matter, AT-ST (Star Wars), ED-209 (Robocop), they just always looked a bit off.
But when i saw the Archon Studios Mammoth Walker on 4 legs, i knew those were the ones for me.

(FYI, the kit has an alternative 2-legged build, for those who don’t share my opinions)

I started what would have been a straight forward build, however the 2 weapon options supplied with the kit didn’t really marry up with the 40k armaments, so i decided to ‘enhance’ with a few 3-D printed extras, and some magnets, because who doesn’t love having all the possible variations? becasue, you know, options!!

First i printed and attached a magnetised mounting bracket to the side of the hull.

Then i printed out all the weapon options allowed and magentised them as well.

Then i decided that i liked the idea of a crew member visible thro a hatch.
The hatch and crewman are separate (magnets for the win), so whilst the hatch is glued in place, the little man can be swapped out for someone more grandiose looking in the future.

Finally, i trimmed off the right hand side grenade launchers, to make room for the Hunter Killer Missile.

With the first one a sucessful build, i decided that i wanted another.
Unfortunately the plasma cannon failed second time around, but i’ll try again next time.

The front hatch of Walker 1 gave me an idea for Walker 2The front hatch of Walker 1 gave me an idea for Walker 2

After building the first, i had an idea for the front hatch of the hull on Walker 2.

I had never found a suitable printable option to represent the Sentinel Chainsaw. So whilst thinking about the front hatch being open, the idea of a crewman hanging out waving a chainsword popped into my head.
After some searching of suitable STL files, the chansword got swapped out for a cicular saw. (even more grim dark in my opinion, but i’m not entirely sure why??)
Not the smoothest of conversions, my skills with the greenstuff are novice at best, resulting in the chaps right arm having at least 2 possibly 3 elbows??

But I told my self to stop, that i’m looking way too close, that it’ll be fine once its painted!!

Finally, after finishing Walker 2, i thought lets do that one more time.

This time with Missile Launchers on the roof.

Between you and me, these were planned to be magnetised to be swapable, but i ballsed up drilling the magnet hole, i couldn’t bring myself to spend ages trying to rectify it, so i just glued the thing into place, and it was done! With all evidence of any errors hidden beneath
