Edge Studio will be releasing a brand new roleplaying game set in the Arkham Horror universe made popular by Fantasy Flight Games' card and board games. A new Arkham Horror: The Roleplaying Game Starter Set is going to be available in August.
Hungering Abyss Starter Set // Arkham Horror: The Roleplaying Game
In the Hungering Abyss Starter Set, up to give players take on the role of talented and bold investigators who are looking to solve the mystery of an empty graveyard and strange happenings that are going on throughout the streets of Arkham. All set against the backdrop of the 1920s.
Hungering Abyss Contents // Arkham Horror: The Roleplaying Game
This Starter Set comes with everything you need to dive into Arkham Horror and get used to the mechanics in a learn-as-you-play adventure where the focus is on roleplaying and making use of the Dynamic Pool System.
The set has been designed as a good entry point into roleplaying with options to tell an unfolding story over multiple sessions. The scenario can also be divided into ten scenes of one-to-two hours each for those who don't have the time for big sessions.
You also get some amazing tactile components like notes, pictures and trinkets to share which will draw you into the immersive storytelling of Arkham Horror. The full contents include...
- A Game Master’s Reference Board (27.94 x 21,59 cm / 11 x 8.5 in)
- An Adventure Booklet (48 pages)
- 5 Character Portfolios
- 24 Six-sided Dice (12 black and 12 green dice)
- 3 Double-Sided Poster Maps
- 16 Non-Playable Character Profile Cards
- 21 Item and Spell Cards
- 3 Punchboards (puzzles and tokens)
- Several handouts (evidence pieces – journal, letters, etc.)
A solid-looking Starter Set and a good way for Arkham Horror (and Lovecraft) fans to try out a new mystery. It will be intriguing to find out more about the mechanics behind the game and what the plans are for Edge when taking the game further.

Interesting looking game and I’m a sucker for starter sets.
I thought “Non-Playable Character Profile Cards” was a typo for “Non-Player Character Profile Cards”, but it says exactly the same at the Edge studio website…
So either Edge made a typo… or English is not their first language… or those cards are “Non-Playable”…
I would guess it means standard NPCs
Loot studios has a set of minis coming out for Arkham Horror that could be useful for this game, unless you’re Gerry.
There is a video of a test game. It appears to be a dice spend mechanic. I really couldn’t work out what this game does that Either Call of Cthulhu or Pulp Cthulhu doesn’t already do.
Maybe this is aimed at players of the board games?
I suspect it will vanish pretty quickly given how saturated the RPG market is right now.
I think that’s the fate of the entire games market right now: massive saturation, which is going to result in attrition…
