Prepare for the World of Robotech RPG Coming to the Table Top

Cipher Studios have announced that they, alongside Palladium Games and Ninja Division, are bringing the popular sci-fi role playing game of Robotech to the tabletop in Robotech RPG Tactics!
A whole new rule system is being created, aimed at allowing you to play out the massive battles between the United Earth Defence Force and the Zentradi Empire. These can be played as either stand alone games or as a way to enhance your exiting role playing games.
With these great production companies behind it this definitely looks like one to keep an eye on, especially as the rules themselves are being developed by David Freeman and Alessio Cavatore! Alessio is certainly keeping himself busy at the moment isn't he?
Robotech RPG Tactics should be receiving a kicksarter some time in the spring, so be sure to keep your eyes open.

RPG not so interested in. Would love to see the models and characters together as a table top game.

No, Giant coffee maker implies bulk cheap coffee which = bad coffee!
First, I can’t wait as those Robotech/Macross/Southern Cross/ Mospeda mecha designs are the proverbials and utterly timeless.
Second, if their the right scale I can finally do the Battletech lances I’ve dreamed off for a half decent price whilst avoiding the worst of Iron Wind’s (highly variable) sculpts…
Macross is one of my all time favorite sci-fi universes. Hope they do it justice.

Wonder if the marauder, mad dog and warhammer designs are copyrighted by whoever owns the battletech license? I hear these designs, and others, were “stolen” by FASA back in the day. Probably explains why the mechs designed by fasa themselves looks less sophisticated..
Kind of a long story there – both Harmony Gold (Robotech’s creators) and FASA got the rights to the designs from their original Japanese creators (they were from various anime – Macross is one, rest are probably on the Unseen article on the Battletech Wiki). Problem was that HG got them first and FASA didn’t know nor did they secure distribution rights in the US. FASA had a genuine case when HG called them out on copyright infringement, but they were a young company at the time and couldn’t afford to properly fight back so both companies settled on neither… Read more »
The timing for this was pretty… surprising. Only last week I found a free RPG someone made called Giant Guardian Generation that was meant to handle mecha anime-style games which got me back into playing Super Robot Wars (the only ones translated into english, at least – pair of GBA titles). Now this comes along.
I asked Alessio about this, unfortunately didn’t hear back before the article went out. He said,
“Working on a game based on a cool Japanese Anime was the last missing badge in my uber-geek portfolio!”
This will be damn cool 🙂 hoping for zentradi infantry models as these would be awesome to have painted along side some human pilots 😛
I just hope the rules do not turn out to be like kings of war or warhammer 40k 5th edition. 5th was so boarding put me to sleep standing up and kings of war while having nice minis to me the rules where lacking so here’s honoring for a food rule set this time from him. Though ill buy the minis no matter what big fan of macross and robotech. And my awesome coffe mug SDF approved:)
