The Weekender: The Return!

The guys are back once more with this week's Weekender. This week sees a closer look at the upcoming Grumpy Old Wargamers Con happening at Tabletop Nation this June, as well as the announcement for Malifaux 2.0. On top of this the guys give their views on the Deadzone Kickstarter and we announce the winners of the Mutant Chronicles Warzone contest and the great Salute 2013 scavenger hunt!
Here are some of the details for the Mantic Open Day:
- It's on 11th May 2013. It's in Nottingham, at 193 Hempshill Lane, NG6 8PF. It's an abandoned medical center. This is an awesome thing considering the background to Deadzone. (It's a bit creepy!)
- Mantic will be running demo games of the Deadzone Alpha Rules. The rules will be available on the Kickstarter page before the open day, but this is a chance to play them on the actual board.
- They will also be running the first ManticBowl DreadBall tournament.
- Our Pathfinders will be running a huge Kings of War participation battle so people can get a feel for how the game works ahead of this Summer's huge list of stunning releases. This is a great chance for people who only know Mantic through DreadBall to see what else we get up to, and how the "keep it simple" design ethos works on a wargame scale. They're also running demos of Warpath, Dwarf King's Hold and Project Pandora so people can try out a little bit of everything Mantic.
- The Open Day Seminar is always a laugh - Ronnie will be giving away teasers left, right and center as always, and they'll have special guests on hand to answer questions about games.
- Golem Painting Studio will be putting painting seminars, to help people improve their brushwork. They'll also be on hand to answer questions throughout the day.
- Oh, and the aforementioned zombies! The venue is massive so they're closing half of it off and infesting it with zombies. Well, people dressed as zombies, anyway.
So the prize for this weekenders comp we have two tickets to the Mantic Open Day up for grabs so you and a friend. I believe that is Kyle Katarn’s ship from the Dark Forces game, so its extended universe stuff, so they are certainly spreading out to that very quickly.
About the competition.
Do you mean the best weapons for the zombies, or the best weapons for fighting against the zombies?
Do you mean pick any weapon or pick weapons from the mantic range?
Do you mean hand held weapons or can I have a whole titan weapon?:p

best weapon – chainsaw hulahoops attached to 3 concentric magnetic rings while I would be safe inside a zorb ball
worst weapon – gloves covered in the brains of either the obnoxious business types who die in zombie movies, or the ‘he has been bit he just a bit ill’ guy in zombie movies
craziest weapon – A Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm-Flailing Tubeman sold by Al Harrington at Al Harrington’s Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm-Flailing Tubeman Emporium and Warehouse in Weekapaug, Rhode Island
Best weapon: an ironman suit (armed to the teeth and protected from bites, claws, and projectile vomit alike)
Worst weapon: a feather duster (zombies have very little skin and feel no pain, it can be assumed they are tickle-proof)
Craziest weapon: zombie paper (surprisingly effective in Earthbound)
I don’t think I can afford the travel expenses to the event but this is a fun contest.
Warren for Salute can we see the underwear picture of me and you together? I miss that moment.

Stuart is spot on with his assessment of Mantic’s Kickstarters. If you’re planning on running one, watch and learn how they do it. Even just the little details like starting the campaign just before people get paid and ending it just after they get paid again so they catch everyone twice.
Forgot to mention that – agreed, another indicator of a Kickstarter with some thought to the process and not just the product,.
Man, Justin is going to crack one day and kill everyone at BoW with a shotgun.
Best weapon – Crossbow. It’s got range and you can use the ammo again if you’re not stuck in a horde. Worst Weapon – Chainsaw. Heavy which will slow you down and make it hard to swing and uses fuel that could be hard to find. Funniest/Most Entertaining – This one is arguably the most useful as you can use it as a distraction to get away. The average Call of Duty fan boy with a bolt action sniper rifle. Guys just a quick heads up on the Wars For Armageddon the tickets are selling quick, only a couple of months to go to the great event 🙂
It wasn’t mentioned but there are so many extras including a time commander strategic decision making for deploying your task force, cut scenes, audios, superb engraved awards, aliens style on screen kill count and much more.
