Another of the big reveals from Warhammer Skulls 2023 that caught my eye was focused on Warhammer Age Of Sigmar. The trailer for Realms Of Ruin, a new PC and Console Real Time Strategy Game, is coming out in the near future and it genuinely looks awesome.

Realms Of Ruin comes from the developers behind Elite Dangerous, Planet Zoo and Jurassic Park Evolution. So, they have a pedigree in big, detailed games and those where you need an eye for strategy. You will take on the role of one of four factions, the Stormcast Eternals and Orruk Kruleboyz have been previewed so far, as you fight for control of the Realm Of Beasts, Ghur.

Looking like a classic RTS of old, Realms Of Ruin is doing a lot of the right things. There's strategic gameplay, fighting over objectives on the map and dynamic battles that you can get right into the heart of. There is a lot of the faithful old Dawn Of War, StarCraft and Warcraft vibes running through what we're seeing here and it very much reminds me of strategy games that I played when I was younger.

As well as that, there is a new narrative which has been co-written alongside longtime Black Library author, Gav Thorpe. We've had a peek at the main character for the Stormcast Eternals and I've no doubt that we'll get lots more details on the other notable characters fighting over Ghur as we move towards the release of the game.

The grimdark future of Warhammer 40,000 is more than catered for when it comes to video games that can provide an entry point into the background and then the tabletop game itself. You've got the likes of Dawn Of War, Space Marine and now Darktide for that. Warhammer Fantasy Battles is also richly furnished with games like Vermintide and of course Total War: Warhammer.

Warhammer Age Of Sigmar has had a few games pop up but none of them have really stuck the landing. Storm Ground was decent but felt sparse. Beyond that, we've had a lot of games which are very much focused on quick mobile-based mechanics. Realms Of Ruin could be the thing that really gives folks a chance to sink their teeth into The Mortal Realms and get interested in Warhammer Age Of Sigmar.

Realms Of Ruin, combined with the likes of roleplaying game Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Soulbound and the Black Library novels could end up meaning that The Mortal Realms get a new influx of players looking to try out the tabletop game.

Do you think you'll be keeping an eye on Realms Of Ruin?
