The Dawnbreaker Cohort Arrive As New Forge World Blood Angels
December 13, 2019 by brennon
Forge World are pulling out the stops for the Blood Angels once more with another Horus Heresy-era kit which brings the Dawnbreaker Cohort into the mix as warriors from the skies, striking the enemy from above and rending them asunder.
Here is a bit of a breakdown as to how these particular soaring angels work within the background and on the tabletop...
"Even within a Legion whose skills in the arts of orbital strike and shock assault are legendary, the Dawnbreaker Cohorts stand apart. Chosen from amongst the most experience and daring of the Legion's assault squads, they have one purpose in battle, to sunder the enemy's lines and tear the heart from their formation.
Armed with the falling-star pattern power spear, the Dawnbreaker Cohorts are able to rip through even the toughest enemy infantry on the charge. Clad in ornate armour, covered in Blood Angels symbols, they perfectly complement the rest of your Legion Assault Squads."
The models do look rather good indeed. I'm not entirely sure they are £55 good but they do look very nice and I think they really build on the already over-the-top aesthetic of the Blood Angels nicely. They do have the look of proper avenging angels descending from the skies.
As always, anything from Forge World will certainly look nice but it comes with a hefty price tag. I'm sure there will be plenty of folks out there who have their eye set on some nice models from this collection and these fellows here in particular but they are just not for me.
What do you make of these new options?

The new jetpacks look good.
I’m not a big fan of the Blood Angels (I prefer the Imperial Fists), but I have to say I like the look of these jetpacks, and it’s great to see another unit making use of Astartes assault launchers.
Those guys look like floating angels instead of aggressive-about-to-rip-your-heart-out assault troops.
Heck if it weren’t for the ornate armour I wouldn’t have known these were the best of the elite troops.
Ok … there’s one guy with the stabby spear, but even he looks like he’s taking part in the space olympics javelin throwing competition.
The kind of substandard paint job I’ve come to expect from FW, along with an obscene price. Throw in a few typos in the fluff and you have to wonder who’s minding the shop.
Personally I think they’ve been trying too hard to introduce “new” things into 30K rather than fleshing out other stuff you never really see, i.e. the Stor-Bezashk and Thunderstrike Artillery of the Iron Warriors. A lot of this, while admittedly nice, seems like experiments by FW concept artists. It would be nice if they finished what they started and, if they wanted to do “historical” 40K, go back even further to the Unity Wars and make stuff that’s NEVER had a physical model, or update those that did (I’m looking at you, old metal Thunder Warriors).
