Monolith's Mythic Battles: Ragnarok Kickstarter has been pushed back to 5th April 2021 but have no fear; there are still plenty of previews. We start with one of the Vanir, Freya, who is ready to bring her mighty spear to the final battle.

Freya Art & Render - Mythic Battles Ragnarok

Freya Art & Render // Mythic Battles: Ragnarok

Freya is a powerful goddess who is adept at conjuring powerful Seidr magic in order to trick her foes. In addition to that, she's also presented in Ragnarok as a goddess of war who is able to use her magical weapons and items to hold her own against even the most deadly of creatures.

Brisingamen, the necklace around her neck, protects her and her allies from incoming damage and her cloak of feathers, Valshamr, allows her to vanish from sight and reappear where she likes on the board. This means you can use her alongside your warriors or as a cunning hunter, pilfering runes before your enemy knows what's happening.

The miniature for her is very nice indeed although I do lament that we didn't get her cats! Maybe they will be available separately as part of the Kickstarter campaign. Even without her faithful felines, I reckon she's going to be a popular choice for Ragnarok players.

We also got a look at the artwork, render and miniature for the constantly scheming Loki.

Loki Art & Render - Mythic Battles Ragnarok

Loki Art & Render // Mythic Battles: Ragnarok

Even if you have a passing knowledge of Norse Mythology you'll know that Loki is one hell of a thorn in the side of the gods. He did give birth to Odin's horse, Sleipnir, but also fathered Hel, Fenrir, and Jörmungandr who all had plenty to do in the final battle of Ragnarok!

The miniature for Loki represents the god after he has freed himself from the bowels of the earth. Imprisoned there for his role in Baldr's death, Loki is now scarred by the venom that dropped onto his face causing him immense agony.

His trembles of pain were said to be the reason that we feel earthquakes; his anguish so heightened that it reverberated all the way to Midgard. Freed from his imprisonment, Loki is now out for revenge and comes with a Malice special ability which allows him to deflect attacks away from him, even into his own units.

He also comes with the Metamorphosis ability which allows him (once per game) to switch places with an allied unit nearby. He is always out to misdirect and fool his opponents meaning that you'll have to have your wits about you when facing him during Ragnarok.

It's neat to see more of the gods from the upcoming Mythic Battles: Ragnarok and I would guess there is MUCH more to come.

Are you going to be backing the Kickstarter?
