Happy Weekend!
It’s the Weekend!!
Looks like a weekender full of shiny…
Decision time for me. With MB:P running and Solomon Kane imminent as KS, do I back the fascinating 1666 KS closing on Monday too?
Sell a kidney and back both?
?
Which two of the three – or all three?
As a previous backer I am only upgrading MB:P and getting a couple of expansions which may barely count…
I guess with all three there are levels to pledge at now with more to throw at them over time through the pledge managers!
Happy Weekend!!
It’s the first 2.0 Weekender! Can’t wait to dig in!
Seems a bit strange having all the politics during the battle surely this should all happen before you put your troops on the table in Ice and Fire
Possibly but it would front load the game in my opinion. While the abstraction in this case might be a little less realistic I think it adds a great flavour to the game 🙂
That’s what Richard thought at Bosworth as well ?
I’m showing my ignorance again here, but what’s the story behind this @suetoniuspaullinus
The Wars of the Roses were like the real life Game of Thrones..so basically you and your men are turning up for battle only to hold back a little to see which side is more likely to win before joining the fray..
Just like during the ECW regiments sometimes switched allegiances even already in the fight.
In other words politics and intrigues during battle are a fantastic way to spice up your mass battles.
I would argue that the Stanley’s and Bosworth shows this exactly He was in negotiations With Henry Tudor long before he landed and Richard threatening to execute his son I believe firmed his animosity towards the Plantagenets.

Love your show! I’m a bit of a noob to board gaming, so I unfortunately can’t comment on which theme forces I’d like to see converted…but I’ll try anyway. I would Love to see Sea Monsters forces converted into an army box! Were-sharks and Angler Fish Monsters would be insane!
Don’t you worry, that’s a great entry mate 🙂
Hope you have a great time exploring the hobby 🙂
Is that the Flash shirt from the mystery box you bought at UKGE that you’re wearing @dignity ?
44 prizes for UKGE? *impressed whistle* So which of you do we have to bribe to get selected as the winner? ?. And I’m fairly sure we all want the Fighting Fantasy book, so it’s not just going to be Warren and Justin in the ring – we’re gonna have to hire out the Colosseum in Rome and have a massive melee, medieval tourney style. ?
Re: Projects and writing stories – might have to start one to share the various fanfics I’ve written over the years if we can use projects for posting fiction. ?
aSoI&F: minis look really nice. Tyrion looks like he’d make for an excellent halfling character mini for D&D. Not sure why, but for some reason seeing the Mountain’s mini compared to the other guys makes me think ‘Brettonian Stormcast’ for some reason, lol. And @dracs , fairly sure everyone’s favourite character is Tyrion. ;). “There is a little flashing on Cersei” – careful Sam, this isn’t a Carry On… film. ?
@dracs : don’t worry, you’re not the only one who hasn’t got a clue what Warren and Justin were on about just after the first intermission. ?
AoS 2nd ed: the undead in the new starter set are really tempting me into getting into AoS. I really like the various ghost minis in it, so it’s going to be hard to resist (especially as I’ve got ideas percolating in my brain for also using them as Tzeentch daemons for 40k to go with my Thousand Sons; idea I’ve got is them being the vengeful spirits of Prospero the Sons have summoned to aid them on the battlefield; thinking the Glaivewraiths being Flamers, the other robed guys being Pink Horrors, the smaller guys (forget their name off hand) being Blue Horrors and then converting up some Brimestones that are just flying skulls). The news that there’s a hefty fluff book in the set is another draw for me as unfamiliarity with the setting is one of the things that’s stopped me delving into the game. 🙂
Speaking of Tzeentch Daemons, as I’ve mentioned before, I kinda want to decapitate the Chroneas and use it as the next step up from Pink Horrors. 😉
Solomon Kane: those minis look really nice, especially the shadows which are essentially empty cloaks. Like Warren I have no familiarity with the character but it still looks interesting nonetheless.
(Shameless plug, but for anyone in South Wales on the 17th, Mythic Games are coming to my local games club to demo this game, so if you want to watch it played you’re welcome to pop along to the Castle Gamers in Coity. 😉 )
Great Show. Mythic Battles: Pantheon OR Ragnarök needs to be this year. That way we can see it by 2020.
Solomon Kane, really looking forward to the let’s play.
Faction (have never played Hordes, but this one looks interesting)– The Retribution of Scyrah
The more I see of ASOIAF the more I like it. Really glad I’ve backed the KS quite heavily. The miniatures alone certainly justified this but all your Let’s Plays were really good too and indicating it could well be something more than just a collection of nice minis.
Politics were always being made on the battlefield, ask Richard III..
Solomon Kane on the other hand doesn’t mean anything to me and just hope it goes well for them (Az).
That’s where Az got to! Also please tell Lloyd we miss him.
Really impressed with the ASOIAF game. Figures are spectacular. Shame you didn’t have a shot of the Greatjohn and The Mountain together but I forgive you.
Solomon Kane looks interesting, I think Prudence was my favourite model but all look great.
I thought it was just me with the Water Elemental, guess not. Maybe we expect it to look more Idoneth Deepkin?
I’m a little behind with Warmahoards 3.0 and haven’t even assembled my Ret starter. The theme force I wouldn’t want is Vayl 2.0 and Gryphons. I have plenty already.
What I would like is Pigmen/Farrow with lots of little piggies. Who doesn’ t love piggies?
Circle Orboros
Anyone else missing the Weekender? I was starting to worry, with no show for two weeks. It feels good having it back.
Also, Solomon Kane has a strange draw for me. Can’t wait for the Let’s Play.
Wow
Wow it’s a ogrun weekend 🙂
Your prize is…a half empty box. Why oh why do companies still do this over packaging.
It look more impressive, and a standard size box for all fractions also help standardised stocking -both for PP and for your LFGS
Which implies that this faction pack contains 50% of the future faction pack releases? I doubt it. Box size is a con to make it appear the pack has more content than it really does. It takes up shelf spaces, costs more to ship, and we as consumers are paying the price for this. If publishers had to pay the true cost of excessive packaging this would stop immediately.
Word on the grapevine is that Solomon Kane board game is pretty hot stuff 😉 :p
Mmmmm Ben…I wonder where you heard that? 😉
I would love to see a Rhulic Arcanist Themed army.
That would be awesome if they looked back towards expanding on the Rhullic forces.
Jay, Weekender is back.
As for warmahordes themed force. Sorcha has always been my favorite and she’s supposed to get a version in man-o-war armour. I’d love her to lead a full force of those armoured madmen.
@warzan I was watching this through YouTube app and was getting some sound/image judder that I don’t get watching on this page thru browser on the same device. Could be an issue with upload.
Both play from the same source file so that’s strange:)
@warzan, I think the bits on the water elemental that you’re unsure about are meant to look like the froth/foam you get on the crests of waves and on the shoreline during and after a storm.
Most likely 🙂
Spume!! Careful Warren… That’s spelt S-P-U-M-E…
?
Is the competition question limited to Privateer Press ranges or any ranges?
Go with either mate its not an issue 🙂 @noyjatat
Been thinking about this one and might have an answer that covers both. A Legends boxset, featuring those miniatures that have been pivotal to the lore of the game. This would make a great purchase for painters and maybe with a creative rules write something for arena fighting.
1897: Bram Stoker publishes Dracula, within which Abraham van Helsing, as Jonathan Harker’s old teacher, is invited to investigate what is wrong with Lucy, Harker’s fiancee. He is then caught up in the story as the academic who works out what needs to be done. He is the original Vampire hunter/slayer well portrayed by Peter Cushing in numerous Hammer films. Typically a tweed wearing Victorian academic with a drive to fight vampirism.
1928: Solomon Kane, a C16th puritan first appears in serialised publications by Robert E Howard. Clearly influenced by historic characters like Matthew Hopkins (self titled Witchfinder General from C17th) but set in gothic fantasy settings inspired by people like Stoker, Mary Shelley, his friend and contemporary Lovecraft and a long line of writers since Horace Walpole’s ‘The Count of Otranto’ (the original gothic novel).
It was only when the atrociously misplaced, but otherwise a good bit of fun that was the Van Helsing film came along that the two characters got blurred.
Fantastic summary @coxjul ?
If I recall, the Van Helsing in the film (also a vampire slayer) is meant to be an ancestor of the Bram Stoker character, hence the shared name.
The Solomon Kane film is a bit of a blur tbh.
Glad it’s not just me who found the Solomon Kane film completely forgettable.
Yep. I watched it recently expecting it to be enjoyable popcorn / mindless fun… Wow, was it a snooze fest…
I would Love to see The Thornfall Alliance (Minions Farrow) get a theme box
PIGMEN!!!
HBO in the last couple of days confirmed the making of the pilot for the prequel to GoT
Awesome!
Here’s the link https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-44423040
Might help keep the NI economy afloat for another few years
…and George RR Martin finds another excuse not to complete writing the last book!
I know that authors don’t actually have any obligation to complete a series, but old George is beyond taking the mick at this point.
I don’t really know much about Hordes but those Ogrun minis look really really nice. If I had to suggest a faction to add then I’d have to go for: one that looks as cool as the ogruns. Nice show guys, Solomon Kane looks very fine and that snippet about Red Alert got me interested in yet another game. My house and wallet cannot cope with all this cool stuff!
Good morning all, very much looking forward to the Solomon Kane KS, I will be going deep on the 12th.
With the new Sorcha, I’d love to see a Man-O-War themed force box. All those shoulder pads, good gosh yes!
there is or will be a khador themend man o war box
https://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/starter-products/all-in-one-army-boxes/man-o-war-theme-force-box
You’re right! Back to the drawing board for me, then 🙂
Good good, how did I miss that release! Gimme a sec…………..ok I have it ordered now.
Mantic v GW, still as different as chalk ‘n’ cheese, when are they going to move from their 1980’s design and quality? Even boardgames from Mythic far surpass Mantic.
Boardgames form Mythic far surpass GW too.
I think one of the key things is that Mantic are still looking to keep lines like Kings Of War etc quite cheap – but yes, as I said during one of my news pieces this week, it would be good to see a step up in quality.
However – Walking Dead, and now the upcoming Hellboy look astonishingly good. Actually, so did Dungeon Saga. I think that Mantic do exceptionally well when they make these more focused games.
Im trying to paint a delicate component and you announce i won the CMOn prive and now I’m shaking and can’t aim my brush!
I’m a Circle Orboros player with only one of each of the Wolds. Bones of Orboros is the current hotness needing 3 of each wold so I’d love a budget theme box to flesh out my force. Also Wolds are quick and easy to paint (relatively speaking) so it’d be quick to get on the table.
First thing I noticed was Justin wearing the Flash t-shirt from his mystery box. Cool. – Got no idea for a faction box set for Hordes, but any will be allright, just as all themed boxes are. – I wonder whether it is worthwhile to pick up some Solomon Kane books to get an idea what the fluff is like. Are there books, novels, short stories or comics? I´m sure Sam knows. I´d be pleased to learn something about it.
Fyi: Didn´t have any problems with BoW 2.0 yet. As a rule, the problem sits in front of the computer (me).
This gives you a pretty good rundown of the various stories @jemmy – check out the Wiki
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solomon_Kane
Thank you very much. That helped. The company named after a very long river in South America is going to send me a copy of the collected stories.
I would love to see a Llaelese Resistance faction box.
I’d love to see a whole box themed around Witch Hunters… I had even started an Empire army for Warhammer before Sigmar based around that type of characters!
I used to have a cool idea for a Warhammer Empire force which was run by a Witch Hunter and his Warrior Priests.
All of the units would be rag-tag militia and free company with maybe a stolen cannon or two as they are operating outside of the jurisdiction of the various States.
The twist would be that the Witch Hunter had a captured Bright Wizard in his employ (represented by a Demon Host from the 40k range) that he carts out for battles as a way of using the tools of the enemy against them (or how he sees it).
I thought it would be very thematic @timeslayer
I’d love to see it / do it! I’m still not hot on Age of Sigmar, but I may look into it again with the new edition / lore they’re introducing.
I’d love a big box of bacon for Hordes…. so Grymkin. LOT’S OF BACON!
Since I started fresh with warmachine/Hordes I would really like to see a Satyxis Raider Fleet for Cryx based aroud Skarre.
Love the new hordes theme boxes! good luck everyone
Happy Weekend folks
So going to go in for Solomon Kane…now
With regards to Mythic Battles Ragnarok…I am really disappointed with the look Monolith have taken with Ymir…to me it is more Fantasy than Norse if that makes sense.
My thinking as well, he look great for an ice demon – but he dies not feel like my Ymer
I think it’s telling that they changed the sculpt to offer the alternative head during the new Pantheon 1.5 Kickstarter
Here we go again Mythic Games. Ready Player One. Wait for other players?
I am once again enticed by the A Song Of Ice And Fire miniatures.
So many derivatives
Has Kickstarter ( and i take it more generally, have crowdfunders ) improved games? I’d be interested to see if you can show causation as well as correlation @warzan.
I think the range of different mechanics being used and experimented with has increased, but as always with the claim that mechanics have improved i find myself thinking that it is more true to say that the mechanics being adopted and experimented with now have been around for a long time but simply not previously favoured. Whether or not they are an improvement is somewhat dependent on the eye of the beholder.
There are two areas i think have definitely improved:
Firstly, components. Some might say that this is in the eye of the beholder too and is to some extent dependent on how many components one wants to have to use. However, i would think someone would have to be absolutely puritanically against the use of any components to not concede that there a now a range of time saving components being used in games, or at least being built into and sold with games, that previously were not. I think a good number of these, for example stat cards, should have been the norm some time ago, and indeed have been something many a hobbyist and gamer have been making themselves out of near-necessity.
Secondly, miniature quality. It’s difficult to know what would have happened to miniature quality without crowdfunders around, but i find it hard to believe that companies would have produced and gambled on the kind of high quality miniatures we just saw from CMON, without the push forward from the likes of Kingdom: Death.
There is an area in which i think that crowdfunders might have been detrimental, and that’s availability, or at least long term availability. There’s a lot more to discuss on this subject than i’m willing or even able to go into now, but in brief i think the crowdfunder exclusives and the fact that games aren’t going to retail is changing the nature of how a hobbyist would previously have chosen gone about, and been able to go about buying into a game, both in terms of time and money. However, i think many of these games and a good deal of what they have brought with them simply would not have been available at all without their crowdfunders.
Happy weekend BoWiens !
That Solomon Kane Trailer… without the splinter of a doubt the best trailer for an analogue game ever made by man. I am floored.
For the Theme Force it’s got to be the Motherland Khador’s Wolves of Winter
Psychotic Doom Reavers with bewitched swords and cold wielding battle wizards some of which are mounted
All working together to liberate those lands stolen from the empire by the Corvis Treaties
I’m liking the Solomon Kane minis, it looks an interesting game as well.
Seeing Mythic Battle Pantheon back on Kickstarter, I can’t help but think this is an indicator of a real change in the sales channels for the hobby. It was a KS exclusive first time around, and as with their batman game, it was assumed that meant buy it now or its gone for good.
Now we know that you can get a second chance at these things (at least, maybe more), and essentially games manufacturers are becoming their own distributors too. This could be significant for retail businesses if the model becomes widely adopted.
Favourite part of the weekend!
That theme force is wicked!
Trollbloods – Storm of the North will be my choice of theme force as I can’t pass up bears and fire eaters!. However if I got a ‘Band of Heroes’ theme force, I’d paint them up in WWII theme ala ‘Band of Brothers’!
For the Wm H battle box, I’d love to see a Tharn themed box. They’re not given the love they deserve IMO.
How about a Voltron/Power Ranger type theme force…Mega-Jacks, the exclamation point in your declaration of WAR!
My first choice for the themed force I’d love to see would have to be the Gatormen, but I think that’s already out So I would have to opt for the Farrow instead. I like my anthropomorhpised animals!
First I just want to say fantastic coverage of the UKGE. That had to be the most content I have ever seen from one of those kinda events. Great job team. Now for me and Warmahoardes, it’s all about Circle and their werewolves. I would love a starter box of just werewolves.
You know, I think the mercenaries as a faction lose a lot of love. I think “THE IRREGULARS” would make a cool theme force box. I think a lot of people would like their lore too seeing as how popular antiheroes are nowadays.
I’d like to see Cygnars Arcane Tempest Gun Mages get a theme force box because gun mages are awesome!
Glad it’s back. Good show, not sure if I will get Solomon kane, 1666 is still tempting me.
1666 it is…..took the plunge
Happy Weekend! I can’t wait for Solomon Kane to come out and interested to see what all they’re going to make available in the campaign.
I would like to see the Skorne Masters of War released in a box. I really like the war beasts available in it.
Happy Weekend Everyone! Solomon Kane mini’s look fantastic, and can’t wait for Mythic Battles: Ragnarok (though my wallet is happy to wait 🙂 )
Also pretty sure we will be picking up the Soul Wars boxset when it hits.
I gotta get that Fire and Ice game. Kicking myself in the arse for not backing the Kickstarter. Aaaarrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh!!!!
Hobby Night live!! The last minute contained the most important information, wohoo! 🙂
37:31 water elemental, i agree with Warrens statement, imho this is due to the rough surface, especially visible on the mouth and the shoulders. i suppose it is meant to be foam, but at this scale, a clearly blended transition on a smooth surface would have been better than the drybrush with the rough surface. it can be remedied ofc, nothing some sandpaper/greenstuff won’t smooth over. also the tentacles are a bad choice along with the shoreline rocks, as it seems the accompanying octopus is subterrane below the base. also the ship skeleton could be a bit off-center, to give it that washed up feeling. can be fixed as well by adding a mast in a asymmetrical position. that’s what’s “off”.
@warzan I think the “rough” edges on the water elemental are supposed to be representing the foamy/bubbly bits along the edge of a wave. That section of a wave is quite rough and turbulent and would not be smooth at all.
I suppose I should have read the pages of other comments. I would have seen that others have already said the same.
Yay weekender is back how I missed thee…
Themed Force wise I woud love to see the Gyrmkin bump in the night becuase who doesnt love that Halloween nightmare feel
thanks gents, great to be back.
The art for Solomom Kane is incredibly atmospheric, those backdrops are outstanding, and you can really tell the artist put his heart and soul into the project. really strong choice to go for a unified look by sticking with the same artist. the game play gets ever more intriguing and is shaping up to be every bit as good as the art, but i’m holding fire for the lets play and the full picture before i dive into that.
the virtues are gorgeous and look like they’ll be a joy to paint.
Oh yes, i would like to see a Nephilim Theme Force for everblight.
the first sighting of Ymir has me more than a little excited for whats to come. I think we all know this one’s going to be HUGE.
already said my piece on the sculpt and the alternate head is a real result.
ASOIAF miniatures look to be very cleverly designed and the medium is an interesting one.
you can still tell on details like hair and fur but outside of this and a little softness in the edges they hold up very well. the fact that they are pulling off true scale realistic looking miniatures though is very impressive.
Eric is obviously an incredible game designer and there is a lot i like about the game but i’m really not a fan of random charge distances. would really like to see more creative ways of dealing with the issues inherent in traditional mass battle games.
almost forgot. i received my world of JB Monge Faeries today and they’re every bit as stunning as i’d hoped they would be.
What themeforce:
I would like PP to make a theme force for Morrowan and release it as a box.
Great show – have remember that you don’t need 2 windows to comment and not pause the video
I would like to see Malekus, The Burning Truth from Menoth
A great show guys you didn’t have torture the Mantic guys to get the amazing new figures on the show did you ?
Great looking starter set. They already make the one I want! Northkin Trollbloods. Love the look of that set.
Just by looking at my profile picture you know I am a Huge Khador Fan, we have amazing theme boxes, from the New Man O War box, the Iron Fang and the winter guard box… for the next box I would really love to see a Doom Reaver box, with new updated models, renovated koldun lords and some new reaver units, that could be Amazing!!!
Little bit of a rub down on Cersei’s injection point ?
Will get Jaime on it…
he may need a hand
Yes, as soon as I saw Dionysus I thought WARZAN! As for the theme forces, Privateer is already making them in the Blighted Ogruns for Legion and the Armored Corp for Khador. Larger figures I find to be easier to paint and made to look nice. (Ogres for KoW, naturally, now if only they get the mammoth made.)
And no one commented on the Mountain on a rock? No wonder he “towers” over the normal joes. Easier to cut him off at the knees then (or knee-cap him).
Actually Lady Justice is the Roman Goddess Justitia who was depicted as a blindfold maiden with a sword and scales
Love the new site guys. @warzan glad you back, missed you in the weekenders. Great content as always, keep up the great work.
It’s been a long time since I played Warmachine, but a blighted Ogrun force would be a great way to get back into it. As for an ideal set, the Skarre
Pirate one comes pretty close, but I think the best one would involve Sorscha and, some other stuff ? Probably huge warjacks and hordes of basic troops! Very Khador ?
I forgot to say, great show guys! The discussion of Solomon Kane has given me a much better appreciation for the game and possibly made me into a concert. I should know better than to doubt Mythic ?
Love the look of the minions especially the gatormen, for painting, I like them, and for play, would love to find out.
Great show guys, nice to see the weekend return 😀 Salomon Kane looks very interesting. But im very tempted to get in on Mythic Battles, I was unemployed at the time the first kickstarter, but now i have work and money to spend hmmmm 🙂
About the new box from PP, i would love to see Menoth themede box just with a lot Knights. There are so many types of knights for Menoth, so I think a Knight themebox would be awesome, with Kreoss as the warcaster !
Thanks for a great weekender, guys. And for the 2.0 website!
Ahhh… here we go again. Have really been missing the weekender. Awesome 😀
I believe Hordes already has a starter box per faction as it is. And they already have so many themes like “The Proud” and the “Immortals” box. Not sure what else they could roll up they don’t already have. I am not the best one to ask since nobody I know plays so it has been years since I have played.
Weekend finally!!!
What a great unboxing of a great game in one of my favourite universes. Our is the FURY! Ekhem… Speaking about fury, so Hordes and my most wanted boxed verssion of Themed Force? I will literally love to see and get in my hands an set of CoC theme force THE BONES OF ORBOROS, idea of an army of living statues and constructs guided by best druids of a kind and suportted by bunch of standing stones is mega cool. I’ve always been into druidic and nature/ancients revange stuff. Also I dont have any of CoC models yet but im planning them as my next army so boxed set of my fav themed force of coc would be a cool starting point.
I don’t know much about the Warmahordes setting but I like the pigmen and the alligators. Would like to see more of either of them!
for a faction box must have it would have to be an undead themed gator force. not bulked out with characters but undead variants of wrastlers swamp horrors and turtles all resurected with maelock or calaban a real mountain of scales tentacles and shell
For Hordes I’d like to see some Skorne in a box 🙂
I’d like to see a themed force for Megaliths though I don’t expect that would happen given their size.
On the bad side of the news this week – Android:Netrunner is dead 🙁 This makes me very sad. https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2018/6/8/jacking-out/
It’s official. Mythic Games make the best board game trailers in the industry. Stop making me want to spend money guys!! Pls!! 😀
For Hordes would love to see a box around the pirate devil women cryx. Love their design.
I either want a full pirate box set or Dwarf mercenaries!
Well, finally caugh up! Happy monday!
Thanks for the show guys.
Horde faction: Circle of Orboros would be nice and, i would take another box for Trollbloods (love those guys!).
I’ll try to catch up to the XLBS on tuesday!
Mercenaries need more love. We don’t have any starter boxes anymore. At least give us a theme box. Pirates, Steelheads, dwarves, any of them.
I am excited for the Khador ManoWar theme force (the whole reason I got into Khador). Scyrah got me into the game though, and I would love to see a Mage Hunter theme force.
This Ogryn box would pair well with the bits I have from the second edition 2 player starter though to build out a nice little Legion force.
Looking forward to Red Alert.
Hordes forces. I’m sold 😉
I never play that game.
The force I will want to see converted into that system will be the Master of the universe gang (He-man anyone?)
Hi I’m new fantastic show I never miss them ? I love the hordes force in the show just started playing hordes (Legion) my self so Im biased with the theme boxs they should be all Legion lol saying that I only no primal terror lol keep up the fantastic work ?
Hand’s down the theme force that I want released in a box set like that is a House Vyre theme force for the Retribution of Scyrah. I am hoping for some heavy infantry for the faction, a new Vyre or Houseguard warcaster, maybe a new warcaster attachment like Cygnar’s squire, new Vyre solos (at least one character), and maybe some new houseguard models to round it out. I also wouldn’t mind a Houseguard theme force box.
Man-O-War themed box would be awesome!
