Gladiatores: Blood for Roses is a fast and furious combat focused, betting, bluffing and devious card game for 2-5 players. Each player plays the owner of a famous gladiator school vying for glory and renown in a series of arena battle events. The winner will be the player than can impress the crowd, make devious plans and show off his sword skills to the maximum in the arenas!

There are five gladiators to choose from, and each gladiator comes with its own unique set of combat cards and actions to be played against opponents. Battle the swift Secutor against the brute strength of the Murmillo or the vengeful hatred of the Thraex, or pitch the Retiarius's net and trident against the Hoplomach's spear!

Perhaps the most interesting element of Gladiatores: Blood for Roses is the 'counter-card' system.  This system is ' designed to emulate / simulate the visceral cut and thrust of actual combat'. Each card has another which can counter it and render the attack invalid. This means that a chain of attacks and counters can be created, and encourages players to pre-empt their opponent's actions.

Players can choose to challenge their opponent to a single challenge game of approximately 15 minutes or go for glory in the Colosseum in Season mode. Currently, Gladiatores: Blood for Roses accommodates 2-5 players, however, publisher Bad Cat Games hope to expand out to an eight-player game soon.

This is a really interesting combat card game, with plenty of opportunity for expansion in the future. I like the counter-system mechanic, as it allows for more dynamic play between opponents. There's plenty of time left to back the Kickstarter, and plenty of stretch goals to be released, so if you think you can impress the mob and turn gore to glory, back Gladiatores: Blood for Roses today!
