Happy Sunday
Happy Sunday! Hilarious start to the show. Loving Az what a great addition to the team. As for your odd ocean noise I would assume it was Cthullhu awakening from his long slumber but it is more likely that the noise is a baleen whale call.
Happy Sunday! I ask myself, “why do I watch this stuff?”………………and the answer is………….”because it’s stupidly FUNNY!” It replaces some of the harmless innuendo (in-your-end-O!) That used to be prevalent in Carry On films, et al. Thankfully, the politically correct police have no jurisdiction on BoW. Keep it up boys! (Ooooo errrr, missus!). ; )
Funnily enough, a kaiju game is on my MG wishlist
Happy Sunday guys,
Well done to Justin for eating that snail. Not a chance I would have done that.
I really like Az’s idea where one of you is a Turninator.
I would like to see Formula D taken on by FFG. I like the idea of them taking a really good and solid old school board game and modernising it.
Warren there is something inherently wrong in drinking water from a beer glass.
Have a great week everyone.
Happy Sunday!
When looking at that picture purporting to be of a giant egg, I am minded of the classic Father Ted excerpt… except in reverse:
“No Justin…again. That one big, this one very close!”
It would be interesting to mix Justin’s game (Saga) with Az’s company ( Mythic). Indeed, when Mythic dared ask their MB:P backers “what next?”, the overwhelming response was ‘Mythic Battles:Asgard’. I.e. Mythic’s take on the Norse gods, trolls, heroes etc. Clearly JoA is next, but I do hope that their take on the Norse lore would be epic.
Although Saga has a charm in its own right with its non-fantasy setting and particular quirky activations using the dice boards.
Happy Sunday.
Happy Sunday!
“You’re horn is too big for the camera”
-“That’s what she said” 😀
Missed you guys 🙂
I would do a dual swap. Give Dungeons and Dragons to Games Workshop and give Warhammer 40k to Wizards of the coast.
I would revive the old game The Dark Tower and give that to Mantic, I would also give them Hero Quest.
How’s about giving X-Wing to GW? What those boring space ships definitely need are more spiky bits and skulls!
Funny enough, back in the 80s GW were approached by Lucasfilm who asked if they wanted the license for Star Wars minis, and Ansell had the team sculpt up some SW minis in the then Citadel style knowing it would put LF off, and it did. There’s photos of the Stormtrooper they did floating around online. West End picked up the license instead.
Lucas also approached Marvel about doing a SW comic back in 76 which the weren’t particularly interested, but did it, and it wound up keeping them in business in 77.
For Space Hulk, I would give that to 4Ground and see what we get from them.
Megacon games is another one that has more or less folded. It was just a few guys that love designing games and had a couple marketable IPs, but they aren’t business people. We will continue to see the rise and fall of smaller companies as they find success with new games, and failures in one of more of the other thousands of aspects of business.
I am happy to see BoW continue to thrive in the industry and it can serve as a reminder that you don’t have to be owned by Asmodee or some other business with pots of funds to continue to thrive. I don’t think there is currently any kind of breaking point for the industry. With so many small companies making awesome games, terrain, bits and bobs, etc, we as consumers can support many diverse product lines, but this is still a niche hobby. One poor business decision can tank a small company. Having a few companies close their doors is sad news, but as Megacon said in a recent Myth Kickstarter post, they want to make games, not run a business. It may seem like a lot of companies are closing, but I think that is more about our access to community information.
It is nice to see TTCombat once again picking up a line from another company, but was it a good business decision? I don’t know. Perhaps. Perhaps not. What I do know is that without places like BoW, I wouldn’t have heard about the company that closed or the company that came in to rescue a product line.
My ultimate hope is that as some doors close, others open and the hobby goes on, as long as there is an audience for it. There seems to be a convention every weekend, plenty of exciting people meet, places to play and games to consume. The industry is growing as a whole. However, it is built on the backs of businesses. For me, I may miss some games as they fall behind, but not the business.
It is my sincere hope that the people who are behind the businesses, behind the products, behind the ideas that inspire us to push dudes across maps or write up new backstories for the next character, or attempt the perfect paint job, that those people will find another job at a welcoming company with good business plans and (in some cases) buckets of luck. Some place where their creativity can bloom and the hobby can reap the benefits and continue to grow and make a lot of happy gamers.
And warren’s horn caused many a man to burst out in laughter…
Happy Sunday all!
Re: the kickstarter table, I for the first time ever was super interested in this, I know $699 was a lot of money for such a thing but I thought you know what its everything i wanted in a table. Something I have been after or thinking about doing for years now… but then I saw the price almost doubled with shipping to the UK! $699 for the table and then $500 shipping… now left disappointed!
Great show as always, starting to love Warren loosing his composure! haha whats happened mate its normally so great when you are going with all those innuendos ! 🙂
To be fair to the KS — These are the shipping costs to the UK from the KS page
GAT-44 – $250
GAT-54 – $250
GAT-64 – FedEx (4-days) $673, Polonez Air (18 days) $204, Polonez Sea (5-8 wks) $118
The cost is about the same if something of 60lbs to 75lbs is being shipped from the EU to the USA. I am not saying that it is still not expensive but it should be made clear the costs.
I am sure Warren is very happy with his horn holder. It must be quite heavy when it’s full and put quite strain on the hand and wrist. Much better to have somewhere he can put it down for a few minutes so he can get his second wind before grabbing it up again and finishing off
Scary how well you know me lol 😉
The big blob that Warzan was suggesting is an egg could be hundred of thousands of eggs instead of one. Here’s a similar one found a few years ago that was a massive collection of squid eggs.
http://www.deepseanews.com/2015/07/car-sized-ball-of-squid-eggs-filmed-off-the-coast-of-turkey/
Wait, so you’re saying it’s not one giant octopus, it’s hundreds of thousands of giant octopodes! :O
yes. All waiting for Justin to eat them.
You sir can have all of my no today…
Halo Ground command to Battlefront. To see how this game would feel and play with the rules system like Team Yankee.
Like Justin said I would replace the terminators in Space Hulk but not with an inquisitorial group but with space pirates. Then you have the possibility to introduce other races as well.
Happy Sunday. Well it looks like Glooping sound is Great Cthulhu waking up and the gelatinous spheres are his children the devil fish and getting ready to reclaim the world after his great sleep.
There actually was a Magic boardgame a few years ago based off of Heroscape. Didn’t do so well. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/167698/magic-gathering-arena-planeswalkers
As for what mixup or change I guess I’m a boring person as if I like a game enough I see no reason to have someone else try their hand at it and if I dislike a game I don’t care enough about it to have someone else try it over again. Spent the whole video think of this and nothing really comes to mind.
@warzan – you need one of these in your life for the early morning 3D printing caffeine injection.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/WoW-STORE-GOAT-Real-Leather/dp/B01DKC6PZ8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505032355&sr=8-1&keywords=Goat+horn
It’s a horn. It holds coffee. And it has holders for the desk and the Viking uniform!
@warzan The Final season of Vikings airs on Discovery on Nov. 29 here is the Comic Con Trailer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s28cBkmoVIk
Sorry History Channel
Apparently Vikings will be getting a sixth season.
Happy Sunday! The beginning of the show was epic, I couldn’t paint for good 10 minutes after all the laughing 😀
The IP swaps… damn you guys, now we want those games! As someone who spends maybe 90% of one’s gaming time with either Hawk or Warlord games stuff, both @warzan‘s ideas are pure stuff of dreams for me.
I hope it is just an egg, my first thoughts was sperm! 🙂
Warren and Az are exactly the right amount of bad influence on one another 😀
I would like to see Warzone Resurrection in the hands of maybe CMON. Dark Age and Wrath of Kings have very nice product lines and regular releases. Prodos make nice minis, but a bigger company could bring out more from the Mutant Chronicles IP. Also I would like to see Dystopian Wars and Legions in the hand of someone who can resurrect these games, and make them great. Especially Legions.
An older for me obby orn? Lancashire wants its dropped aitches back.
A lot of other channels would’ve edited out that fit of giggles. Don’t ever change, lads. Don’t ever change! 🙂
For Star Wars with Hawk. I did say at the time that SWL would be so much better in 6 or 10mm
It depends on what you intend of the game? At present SW:L is looking to be squad scale skirmish. At 10mm to you are looking for large army scale battles. I am loving the SW:L scale game. Many on the reddit forum have printed out the cards and have been playing the game with chits and such already.
I’m completely with you @torros . Star Wars in 10mm (or even 6mm) from Hawk would’ve had me much more exited than SW:L. And I’m a big Star Wars fanboy. Just write Star Wars on something and I’ll buy it. But Legion could be the first thing I’ll pass on, because Imperial Assault already tiggles that skirmishy itch for me.
I would love to see the Firefly Boardgame in the hands of Steamforged. Not that GF9 did a bad job. I love the game. And the “artwork” and production is just awesome. But sometimes around the really early and late game it can get a bit stale, when everybody is just doing their thing or later on it is clear who is going to win, it just takes them another half hour to do it (and the other players can’t do that much about it). With their games Steamforged has shown that they can do very dynamic and very interactive game designes. I think that would take Firefly to quite a different experience.
On the topic of @dignity ‘s snale eating. Been there done that mate. And I hated every second of it. Buarhg!! (and again, say no to vertical video!)
Btw: I always thought that CCG stands for “customizable card game”? Back in the 90s early 2000s I played the Star Wars CCG from Decipher (long gone, but good memories) and I believe the boxes said “customizable”. But it was the same kind of marketing concept as Magic with blind buys and something like 5 common, 3 uncommon and a rare card per booster pack.
Happy Sunday, another good how, now lets see who would I swap… I think In a similar vain to Az I would get Mythic to have a go at Small Worlds.
Or alternatively Bloodbowl going to Too Fat Lardies
I would love someone to turn GW’s ‘grow your own Chaos Warband in the Chaos Wastes’ concept, sometimes called ‘Paths to Glory’ and inject more board game / campaign game elements into it.
I’d still like to play skirmish games with miniatures, but I’d like a terrain grabbing, ‘civilisation’-building element to it, where you acquire territory, from ruins, settlments, mines, etc. The goal would be as much to have a great narrative as any in-game impact… although that would be good too. The trouble is that in the past these area control elements have been very abstracted and minimalist (like old-school Necromunda) or very unbalancing.
I’d like someone to create a balanced campaign setting to serve as a backdrop for a skirmish/warband miniatures game.
So who would I give it to?
Well, FFG would be one option… I like a lot of the elements of Chaos in the Old World, I like their character history generator in the Rogue Trader RPG… but I’m not sure they’ve done anything quite like what I’m looking for.
Perhaps Stonemaier Games – who did Scythe – would be an option? I love the fundamentally simple and yet hugely interesting resource boards… Perhaps something like that would be a way of managing the resources you get from your empire. In fact, the game includes resource extraction, area control and manages to keep a lot of balance too…
So yes, I think that’s my answer: give ‘Paths to Glory’ to Stonemaier Games.
I’m not sure why but it keeps jumping into my mind that it would be interesting to see Flames of War given to Mantic Games. I got a tour of their company back in May and their approach to gaming just seems unique. They were one of the most accommodating companies I visited. I’m not sure what type of twist they would put on it, but I’m sure it would be interesting!
Great Show guys!!!!
If anyone wants to know what Beasts of War is all about I will point them to this episode. It had all the good parts in.
– Breaking Ben (and Warren) right from the start.
– Melting Justin’s mind.
– Melting Justin’s mouth.
– And then some weird gamer theory crafting as the main course.
Just perfect.
Oh no, I’m missing just one thing: Gamer Dad!
I want to see large Warhammer World-style dioramas of 40K done in the chibi style of Soda Pop Miniatures.
Playing in the grim chibi world of the 41st millennium would be an absolute howl.
Why not go the whole hog and get Alessio to mash it up with the My Little Pony RPG?
While looking for the link to image I posted. I found lots of Brony/40K. In some cases the “slash” was very real. o_0
I would give Fantasy Flight’s X-com to Corvus Belli. Parliamentary Inquiry: Can I go on a tangent and suggest Hasbro’s ‘GI-Joe’ be given to a wargames company?
How about Corvus Belli taking Shadow War or Necromunda. Deeper ruleset but with gang progression?
Az is an amazing addition to the team.
Man laughing is really contagious… first the whole mushroom blast that made me almost spit on my minis and now this 😀 what a jolly good time : D
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha…he, he, he, he, he… ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha…deep breath, I’m ok now…no I’m not… ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha…
a fun informative show guys the Eldorado games look good.
I would love to see a new 40k edition from Priestley. I feel its gone really streamlined and the tactics feel gamey which to be fair is what alot of the market wants. But what I want is the old style where there is a little bit of simulation in the game and you get that from designers who are also history fans. In the old editions they had so many rules to represent things that made sense to me in the world but made the game “fiddly” but just allowed the world to come thru. The new game feels more like a video game then a wargame to me.
Point about Star Wars for Justin. Stormtroopers use modern infantry tactics where the individual trooper focuses on inaccurate suppression fire to buy setup time for the squad’s primary weapon, which is a squad support weapon like the E-web.
The Mrs. suggests handing 40K to FFG.
Personally, I’d like to see Corvus Belli get Killteam so Carlos could run amok in the 40K universe.
The idea of 10 squads of 10 “men” with 10 tokens for each is positively dire.
Game swaps.
Panzerfauste Games’ fantasy alternative world war game taken on by Mantic. I think the game currently doesn’t play at a bigger Bolt Action scale unless you really want to and I hope that Mantic would keep that if they took it on. I only suggest the swap because I would love to see them introduce the relaxed TWD style feel to the game. Limit the game head count to the point where you know the individual names of your Orc squaddies or Dwarf Fallschirmjägers and have them fight around a 3×3 or 4×4 board. I think the Kickstarter, plastic miniatures, expansion set marketing model, TWD style wave release schedule would seem to fit this fledgling game. (Been around a while, but not got the traction in maybe deserves). With their background in Fantasy I think Mantic would make some really fun choices.
Justin playing with Warren’s horn trying to figure out how to fit it in the hole ……………….. *snickers* ……*still snickering ** ….. *yep still going*
Another company has had to go into administration Rebel Publishing Limited who trade as Spartan Games, sad to hear, hoping some company come to pick up the IP’s they hold…
For my “wife swap” suggestion would be 4grounds to take on Battletech/Mechwarrior. Can you image awesome mech designs with removable limbs to show damage and the terrain! No longer just blocking terrain or maybe an objective but terrain that interacts. Shooting LRMs into a highrise tower to drop it on an enemy mech. Dropships! Maybe even 28mm pilots for the rpg elements.
My wish would be a giant “ship” or military base terrain, something that would let us battle across the ship worrying about decompression, fuel explosions. You know the guys from 4grounds would pickup and run with the chance to create the kind of stuff everyone else said couldn’t be done.
I have to say giving Battletech/Mechwarrior to Hawk Wargames. Yes, Battletech is held by Iron Wind Miniature for the minis. And Catalyst Games have the game rules. Either would be an interesting change. But I would LOVE to see Iron Wind Miniature having Battletech/Mechwarrior ripped from their 1990’s models making hands.
hppy sunday guys Az your idea wits space hulk, briliant
Question for the team.
It’s not quite a swap but… With Modiphius having a go at a miniatures game for all out Fallout and Steamforge games having the Dark Souls boardgame… Who would you like to see have the Skyrim IP? Would you make it a board game or predominantly a miniatures game?
Would be interesting distopian Wars or uncharted sea, swaped to ffg and play it with movement templates or dials.
There’s too much to talk about.. Space Hulk alternate yes! Giant octopi… yikes! Horn holder! Warlord Games.. 40k Rogue again!? News at eleven!
