Army Painter RuneWars Hobby Weekend Live Blog – Saturday
We get stuck into more building and painting of armies as the Hobby Weekend continues before delving deeper into RuneWars by Fantasy Flight Games alongside The Army Painter guys!
As we get a few games under our belts today we're testing our mettle as generals as well as hobbyists!
Follow Throughout The Weekend
Make sure to follow us throughout the weekend and comment on the Live Blog posts here on Beasts Of War to be in with the chance of winning some epic prizes.
Special Thanks To

Which RuneWars faction would you pick?
Blogging At This Event:
Shading With An Airbrush
Shading with an airbrush is a skill you might want to look at mastering for something different on your models.
We go through some of the skills you can bring to the tabletop allowing you to achieve some interesting ideas and lay the groundwork for future techniques.
Progress Update From Sam
We stop in with Sam next and find out how he's been doing painting up the Daqan forces from RuneWars. He has chosen to do an epic paint scheme which reminds me of some of the painting you can do to characters in For Honor.
With that in mind, make sure to check out his Youtube Channel as Sam does our Total War: Warhammer videos!
Sam's Channel - https://www.youtube.com/user/MrStainless001
Gaz Talks Alternative Shading Methods
We stop off with Gaz and learn about alternative methods for shading using some of the product that Army Painter produce, and tweaking it to your own means.
Is this something you're going to be trying out yourself?
Catching Up With Az & Army Painter's Game
We stop in with Az and the Army Painter guys to see how their game has been going. It's pretty neat seeing how all the gameplay mechanics come together.
Full demo game coming later this afternoon!
Catching Up With Rob
We find out how community stalwart, Rob, has been getting on with his models that he has been painting up this weekend.
It has been interesting seeing how he works on entirely different techniques.
Progress Update With Doug
We're now catching up with Doug to see how his day has been going as he tinkers away on more of his project.
The light blue is a great choice and really serves to create a fascinating looking set of soldiers which will pop on the tabletop.
What do you think?
Time For Another Army Painter Spot Prize
We have another set of goodies to give away before we have some food...
...let's see who the lucky lad or lass is!
Progress Update With Nuala
We stop in with Nuala and find out what she's been painting away on. It seems the theme of this table is horses, but there appears to be another big beast coming to life too.
When you're painting armies do you go for the big beasties first or do you work on the basic line troopers?
Saturday Round Up - Time for Pub!
We've had another great day of painting and tomorrow we try and get in some games which will be great fun.
Watch out in the morning for our Demo Game and more...and of course we're going to be looking to get some extra painting done AND talk more about the techniques on offer. We also have additional painting tutorials from John too.
For now...wish us luck at the pub!

Good morning, is it a slow start there today, must be all that quick shade consumed last night.
Looking foreward to see the painted armies! 🙂
Looking pretty good
Looking forward to another day.
Cant wait to get my hands on the figures.
Both factions models look amazing, what great sculpts. Really clean lines lots of detail, just beautiful. With the skeleton faction are the humans necromancers or ghouls or what? In any case they look great.
those models look great and i am loving those skellies
Fantastic Paintset Price… Have fun also this saturday 🙂
The models look great
nice to see so much great paint airbrush tips
Can’t wait to see more paint schemes!
looks awesome… my scheme would be black, orange and silver/white.
things really starting to take shape now good work 😀
Good progress all round. Keep it up guys.
I will follow this with interest all day long! But I must admit I will miss the Weekender. 😉
Love these project blogs…hopefully a more regular occurrence!
Me also @crusader not only do I hope there is more of these but that I get to att be a weekender sometime
This is some great stuff.
Loving the painting inspiration while i am daubing away with mine
I like this format for bootcamps. I’d like to see more of this in the future.
Will this be on vod?
Truly inspiring! time to do some hobby myself. i will finish at 5 model this weekend!
hope to learn more today.
Lunch looked delicious love the sautéed onions on my dogs yum!
Looking like it is going to be another great day there. I am amazed at how much they are getting painted. I think I literally painted 3 boots 4 legs and 2 arms on my current project last night. (Not all on the same mini of course)
Awesome looking armies already, now I want to pick-up this game myself…..
So much great stuff here.
Happy Weekend everyone. Hope that there’s some games played by the end of today.
I usually stick to ww2 and various sci fi for my painting desk but dam them models look good!!!
Wow. This looks cool. You get so much done in a weekend. It would be lovely to have a weekend off just to paint.
Great progress so far guys, looking forward to seeing all of the finished armies
Ready for more hobby tips.
These are exactly the tips I’m looking for to knock out some of the bulk painting that’s clogging the bench. Thanks!
Looking forward to day 2!
Did not think I would want to get into this game at all. sigh. stop it!
Well, looking to go through the blog now. It’s hard to do these things truly live when there is 8 hours difference.
I wished I could be there. I am to far away. 🙁
Those are some good looking minis.
Wow, people are done with their first faction already? This is great! I’m getting a lot of inspiration on different color schemes for how I want my models to be!
Day 2, looking forward to seeing what happens today
Where’s Mel the terrain tutor? Thought he was gonna be there?
All those armies are looking really good. Another good day.
Following along with this bootcamp finally gave me the inspiration to start painting my first miniature.
Deciding that the best way to deal with a plugged up dropper bottle was ‘just squeeze harder’ resulted in an explosion of Warlord Purple. All over. My hair. My t-shirt. My dog. Ruined a chair.
As with everything, ‘just squeeze harder’ was not the correct answer.
Loving this so far! Day one was nothing short of FOMO-inducing fun by the looks of it!
Thank you for the amazing coverage. BoW does it again with amazing content. Thanks for this and for doing a hobby week. Runewars figures look amazing.
Seeing all of this gives me motivation to get back to my painting table finally!
Awesome weekend.
Great day. Great content.
Looks like a fun Hobby Weekend. I might have to gather the knuckleheads for one on this side of the pond.
Yet again its been a pleasure to watch you lot enjoying yourselves while I’m slving away at work ishhh, well no I’m not I am too busy watching everyone there having a great time harrummpfff….
Good morning guys.
Glorious!!!
Lets PAINT!
Watching people put stuff together – it strikes me that it would really be interesting to do a science class on the plastics and paints. Chemistry anyone?
Also some introductory classes would be great too.
Very jealous of the hobby-ing that’s going on there! Keep up the good work!
Love’n those paint jobs!
Sweet on the nail buffer, gonna get me one.
It is great that groups put together these kinds of community events. I was directed to Beasts if War this weekend by a friend and it looks like I will be a regular visitor. Keep up the great work!
another great boot camp series
I wish I was there!
I’m late.
These painting tips are super useful.
Really want to get in on a boot camp one of these days.
Inspirational day 2. Can’t wait for the finished armies on parade.
Seems like a nice game and good line of new colors.. can’t wait to see more today
Morning! Fried food for breakfast too? How long did the quickshade take to dry?
Congratulations on making ‘watching paint dry’ exciting. If you do one of those hobby orientated weekend in the summer I’ll be very tempted to join.
good remainder to me, that i almost spent 2 year without paint a singel mini
This is a brilliant idea for a weekend – more more.
Feeling like I should have the same kit here at home and be painting along with you guys – brilliant
Nice video,s. I really have to get my old brushes back to painting. 🙂
I’m really pleased to see a number of women at the bootcamp – great to see a wider interest in our hobby than the stereotypes of others might suggest. The more people we can attract the better.
My daughter opened white dwarf yesterday to the opening page and asked why there was only one girl in the editorial team, but was also really excited about the idea of female storm cast
Great weekend all these armies look amazing.
Thanx GW, well at least I can rely on BOW
I need to start painting again. I don’t usually paint during the winter months.
Comes across as a great atmosphere there which helps to get minis painted .
Fries all day, every day? 😛
Really was privileged to get to join the BoW and Army Painter gang for the second day of the Hobby Weekender. Was able to run a bunch of Runewars demos which is a real pleasure to teach even with 100 point half sized lists. Learned a ton about painting, basing and was really made to feel welcome by all of the attendees 🙂 Az
I always like to play the good guys. But how can i ignore that amazing giant purple worm ?!
looks like a great time. Can`t wait to see how the games play tomorrow.
Great event. Would love to do one of these events.
Lemme at one of those Mega paint sets though!
very impressed
It will be interesting to see how many from Descent make the cut into the mini’s game….
some cool colour schemes!
Ooo, would really love one of those paint sets.. Im more of a painter than a player. So would be nice to branch out :p
“you could win..” My favourite words.
Ok, perfect dream…win swag bag from adeptacon and this paint set then re-enact the hobby weekend here at home with my son. Don’t pinch me, I don’t want to wake up.
looks like alot of fun
To much to see!
Damn, some impressive turn outs indeed!
This is really inspiring. Time to get painting!
So many beautifully painted minis there and everyone looks to be having loads of fun.
I am impressed by the Army painter results. I really think its going to help build the runewars community up.
I really want to attend one of these. Fun watching them but I am sure it would be better to attend.
The show was great!
loving the tutorials
What a great weekend, I have enjoyed myself so much as always
Looks like pretty nice weekend…
Lloyd, did you pre-highlight your skellies before the dip? I really like how good they look afterwards.
Watching all the painting and the clear enjoyment of all the bootcampers has helped me to cast off my painting apathy and get back to completing my painting projects.
Thank you Beasts of War.
Splendid series.
Wow, those horses are amazing.
This was cool!
Great stuff guys! one more to Binge and I’m all caught up!
I hope you will put John behind a mic more often. His style is very entertaining.
So wished I could have gone to this (Stupid partners Birthday)
Day 2, I’m still catching up.
what an awesome weekend!
