Four weeks for the first milestone is a good idea. My stuff only arrived in the post yesterday.
HQ not worth it.. over-rated anyway. So many better games. I understand the nostalgic factor, but I’d rather play Arcadia Quest or Gloomhaven
Woo Hoo, early on this weeks show
The contrast paint PDF you’re referring to was done by Michael Martin from
https://www.youtube.com/c/TabletopWorkshop/

The pdf is in the video description and available at

‘Tis the Weekend!
Once Warren’s done with his HeroQuest rant it looks like a quiet one too…
Why did I immediately think of @warzan when I saw this? :
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Berry-Crafts-Anti-spill-Support/dp/B07THWV6HQ/
Not the first time america has restricted access to product.
GW done it with several games including Blitzbowl.
But it’s ok… I don’t care…
There’s plenty of stuff I was nostalgic about, but when I experience something 30 years later that I have fond memories of… I often find my opinion has changed.
Can we get a Chainsaw Warrior reboot :p
Happy Weekender all. I will admit I was riding the nostalgia train with the revamp of Heroquest but Id be more likely to back Hogs or War which looks like a really fun game.
Yay weekender time is upon us.
The CP models 6mm range is the old Angel barracks range
Thanks for the show, have a good weekend…
Already on GCP picking up some minis so damn you all again.
HeroQuest is a big let down but not unexpected… the artwork has no soul and is generic JRPG, the cost is ridiculous for getting this in the young generation and limited release.
Such a shame, this version certainly won’t be looked back at with the same fondness in 30 years’ time.
Very glad I have original.
You could use some of the smaller scale CP model stuff for 28mm weird war where one side has access to a shrink ray
In terms of copyright, both versions of the UK Rules Of Play have copyright Milton Bradley (owned by Hasbro by that time). The UK’s first version of the Rules Of Play has “Developed with Games Workshop HeroQuest is a trademark owned by Games Workshop Ltd., and is used with permission”. The UK’s second version of the Rules Of Play had only “Developed with Games Workshop” and not “HeroQuest is a trademark owned by Games Workshop Ltd., and is used with permission”. The USA version’s Instruction Booklet has no mention of Games Workshop at all.

iv seen it all now warren doing a grab a Granny!??
Run John Run as fast as you can.
I’ve been looking at the two UK versions and one USA version of the rules from the original releases of the HeroQuest game and i don’t know what they could be referring to in the UK version(s) of the rules that they would want to add into the USA version of the rules. As far as i can see most of the differences amount to improvements in clarity and presentation in the USA version of the rules. The only rule that is in the UK version(s) of the rules that is fully absent in the USA version of the rules is that a hero becomes a champion after three completed quests, and in one version of the UK rules a hero gets 500 gold coins upon becoming a champion. This would be a poor addition. On the other hand the monster stats were higher in USA version of the game, so perhaps they are mixing up the monster stats, but i think that would be a backward step for the USA version, which i think was a big improvement on the UK version. The only other thing related to the core box that i think they could be referring to is the HeroQuest Advanced Quest (no – not Advanced HeroQuest, this is different) that was an expanded version of the core game that was not released in the USA and had an additional multi-board mega quest and some extra units and rules, so that might be adding those in. Or they might be referring the expansions that weren’t released in the USA, ‘Against The Ogre Hoard’ and ‘Wizards Of Morcar’.
Its the Gerry clan.?
that program about hither is good warren the find bunkers in the jungles an everything.
As seen on Lv427?
was that Paul ? with the hat.
He still counts as one @lloyd
He who, counts as what?
in Lord of the Rings when the dwarf an the Legolas are counting kills.
Shame shame @lloyd
The barbarian has mugged Cloud.?
It’s the Weekender! Hurray
Good to hear I’m not the only one that is a bit behind in the Milestone One for the Conquest Slow Grow League. Of course I am trying to do two factions. (that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it)
CP minatures are insane! Geez, I may have to place an order. Thanks @avernos for dipping into my wallet again! ?
@warzan … here is a conspiracy theory for you.., this HEROQUEST re-release is a copy of the Indomitus 40k FOMO…… This should not be a surprise! HEROQUEST used to be own by WHO????? Games Workshop…… are we really sure that Games Workshop really sold HEROQUEST? Hummmm. Do we have proof GW sold it off or is Hasbro being a shell for GW? Just saying. Think about it……?
A Hasbro FOMO fuck up.
.. because to really f#ck something up, you need HASBRO
Ben could get the yetis as Wookie’s?
Great show, and fully agree re HQ. Hasbro will obviously make money, but to not update the rules was just lazy. Personally, I’d have got new rules written to bring in line with current gaming, but also put a set of the old rules in as well for the nostalgia element. Best of both worlds….
the (potential) problem with updating the rules is that (ancient) fans will claim that it is not Heroquest any more … (then again … the lazy graphics update already got that ball rolling)
Not that Hasbro would have cared about that, because companies are never our friends despite how often they try to spin it like they are doing us a favour.
I do think that updated rules should have been a priority too. However given that even with the minimal effort Hasbro is applying the ‘release’ date is already set Fall 2021.
Thats why I said put a copy of the old rules in the box as well
That assumes they can keep the stats on the cards as well as all of the specialist dice.
I suspect HQ needs a little more than that, which would require a duplicate set of cards as well as extra dice just to run the ‘classic’ version.
And all of that just so some players could play a version other than the one that was updated for a modern audience ?
I think you’d either have to place too many restrictions on the things that could be updated to do what you suggest.
For the prices they’re charging they should have done something, it’s a total rip off at $99 & $149 and $130 shipping to Canada
£19.99 when originally released would be about £50 now, and they’re charging £77, scandalous
oh that I do agree.
The price vs the effort appears to be missing, but again … here we’re making the assumption that they had/have all the assets ready to use in whatever digital format they need them.
I kind of doubt that, because things do get lost and I doubt they kept everything on file for 25+ years (which is ancient history by digital technology standards).
If they’re recreating all of this based on a single copy from ebay the amount of work needed to get it to the stage shown goes up dramatically …
Neither explains the final price, but again we’re also making the assumption that retail price is based on work/material/time and not just adjusted for the amount they thought people would pay …
The fact that it was funded (at all) within a few days shows that there are enough people out there that :
(a) want it
(b) don’t mind the price
If anything you could almost argue that they still set it too low …
The simple fact that one of the stretch goald is something as useful as an extra set of dice kind of confirms they wanted even more.
In my opinion to not get someone to update the game amounts to laziness and greed. They’d have to pay someone to do this and obviously weren’t concerned about it enough.
It’s funded so they’ve done their job I suppose, but still doesn’t excuse just bringing back a game as it was from three decades ago.
it’s a business.
They are run by laziness and greed.
Especially at the level that Hasbro operates at.
It sucks … I know, but that’s how they roll.
another good one guy’s.
Of course, when Warren gets “The Army Of Justin” he’ll be able to make John paint them, right? Now does Justin even know about these yet? He must do but if you can somehow keep it secret and get him to do an unboxing video (without telling him you printed and painted them up first)…… Probably not going to happen but his reaction would be priceless.
Just hit Milestone one so going to get a game in this week to see how they play. So excited for Hogs of War!
I never thought you guys would be looking for more Grannies….but it is 2020 I guess. Lol
Hero quest is just meh….. it’s just an expensive reprint with new models, and the only reason it has new models is because Hasbro doesn’t own the copyright on the minis GW does.
It’s just a lazy over priced cash grab…. for a game that is now very dated. I get that for many it’s a nostalgia trip as this was the game that got them started down the hobby path but this is still pile of old steaming dog poo from Hasbro.
Rule Britannia !
(surely that must be enough? 😀
You could say that the fishman model looks Better Than Life
As a long-time UK-based Transformers collector (and someone who dips their toe into the Star Wars Black Series from time to time), I have to say chaps that the assumption that the Heroquest Pulse project is being run by Hasbro’s interns is NOTHING compared to how Hasbro treat any fans of their properties.
Case in point – with the latest Siege line. Hasbro released fantastic tetra-jet takes on classic Decepticon Seekers Starscream & Thundercracker. But Skywarp? The third member of that original lineup? Only available in an Amazon Exclusive battle-pack, which was only briefly available from Amazon UK and even then a lot of those orders have been cancelled by Amazon. See also cybertronian Ratchet, the Seacons, and the upcoming Earth-mode Prowl & Ironhide 2-pack (amongst others).
Put simply, Hasbro US does not give a **** about non-US territories, and I genuinely feel sorry for their regional offices and retail partners who have to deal with the ill feeling that gets generated…
Brittania looks nice, would love to give that a try!
I played the original version. Its a really great game
In regards to HQ. Hasbro will produce it, they will make money. Thats all that matters to them as a company in the end and to make sure the shareholders are happy
No mention on the Infinity N4 Army builder release?
Heroquest doesn’t grab me but it sucks its US only.
Really great episode guys, surprised at how much I want those gangs. I have nothing to use them for but I think they look cool as hell
Excellent show.
That army of Justins is missing some Mutunus Tutunus mounts and riders.
Wow an army of Justine’s. How cool!
I’m sure there’s some Very Important legal reason for locking Heroquest but yeah it sucks ass. Boo!
Zealot Minis leave the new Heroquest sculpts in the dust, and you can get them outside the US too! Great show as ever, have a fantastic weekend guys.
Another Great Weekender guy’s! The CP Models have a ton of cool looking miniatures in their line. The Heroquest expense doesn’t draw me at all, to expensive for a gateway game for the kids.
After @avernos trying to use the show for picking up Grannies.
On to Hero Quest I will say while Hasbro could sit on the IP, forever and not done anything with it they now get it out.
I would not call what they are doing crowdfunding more an early preorder on their website, the goal being set so it would fund but throw a bone or two to the pre-orders. As I never really got the HQ bug I am not going to pre-order it this way, I do find it odd to see the Avalon Hill imprint on it
@warzan and @lloyd and @avernos. Never worry if you really want the new Hero Quest once it gets in stores and you want a copy I can always pick it up and bring it out to you on my next visit to the in laws. You might have to wait two years but you won’t pay $130 for shipping! Or better yet have a boot camp that you need me at and fly me out! ?
“You might have to wait two years but you won’t pay $130 for shipping!” lol
Better than Hasbro not releasing it at all. You saw with GameZone the result of that.
There is no cash grab. Hasbro can make more money releasing another Monopoly game.
As for FOMO, that’s your problem, not anyone else’s. FOMO has always been there with crowdfunding, limited edition products, etc.
Plenty of other dungeoncrawlers out there, including those made for children. If you can’t find them, that’s not Hasbro’s problem.
Indie of the week has been consistently great for a while. Is there a place of honor (list of links) that can live someplace on the site?
